Good to know bc I just got a new tat yesterday and I’m doing bandage healing but am almost to the 24 hour mark and I was wondering about aquaphor when cleaning before applying second tegaderm bandage. But I use the old school almost vaseline like aquaphor

I'm pretty heavily tattooed, but a few months ago I had my second session on my sleeve with a VERY renowned and expensive artist. The first session was outlines so she put saniderm on it, but for the second it was colour so she gave me different instructions. She told me to keep it wrapped with kitchen towel and taped up CONSTANTLY, with a break every few hours to moisturize and change the wrappings. Obviously that sounded very wrong to me, but she insisted that it helps to soak things up and prevent scabbing so I reluctantly listened to her. Well, what do you know, a few days in and I had scabs and multiple instances of bleeding where my tattoo had stuck to the tissue at night and gotten ripped. I was left with patches of missing colour and scarring because of this, and now she keeps avoiding my appointment requests to finish my sleeve. Needless to say, sometimes your artist is wrong and you should listen to your gut because then you won't end up like me with a messed up half finished £1500+ tattoo.

My tattoo artist told me to use the Dial Antibacterial orange soap and when I first cleaned it, I used bactine spray. I also used some Aveeno or anything fragrance free was the way to go. It healed so much better with the saniderm. Actually getting tattoo #4 today! 🙌🏻🎉

My artist put saniderm on my tattoo, I left it on for 5 days before it peeled off in the shower. It was really nice to have the saniderm because it got past the “open wound” phase.
The itchiness after the saniderm came off was the most difficult part😂

For arm tattoos, while going to bed, I use a silky shirt that isnt fuzzy at all, to drape over it, helps remind me that there's a tattoo there and for the first night it keeps it from sticking or getting on other stuff.

With one of my early tattoos, I noticed that a couple days AFTER removing the sanidrem, my tattoo had a raised, puffy look instead of being dried out or flaky as my others had at that stage. Read some and realized that I was way over- moisturizing it. Did nothing but wash it for about 2-3 days and that evened it right out. Never got any strange bumps or redness but my god i was scared for awhile there !

Personally I'm a fan of dry healing my tattoos.
My artist said to keep them covered the 1st 12 hours then just let it dry heal and expose to air. I'm one of those people that never felt the need to itch or scratch the tattoo at all.
And in regards to the final appearance once healed, they come out perfectly fine. Yeah it may be consider lazy but for me it works great.

I have reactions to bandages, but was able to use Saniderm for the first couple days to at least get past the weeping phase. So it’s not completely off the table. Depends on the level of your reactivity. If it takes several days to breakout, you’ll probably be ok to use for the first phase so you can sleep easier etc

I wondered why my artist told me to go straight to moisturizer and not do any aquaphor for my most recent tattoo. I usually wear second skin for 5 days so I usually skip the aquaphor stage, but we did a black out yesterday so that's a bit much to wrap. Had no idea aquaphor changed their formula!

Just got my first tattoo. 5 hour inner forearm. The process was uncomfortable and occasionally like 5/10 painful, the saniderm kinda made aftercare like, nothing barely any swelling, redness, no plasma or anything after I took it off. Just some ink. Very mild, occasional itchiness. Some slight burning sensations that subsided quickly, but sparked up occasionally.
Much easier process than I thought it would be. Hopefully this means I heal quickly. So super stoked to finish up a full sleeve!

I have only done Second Skin once for a huge piece (my largest one - 10 inches) but the other 5 were the traditional way.
I just got a tattoo ( 2 inches; one on the inside of each of my ankles). I am on day 2 and what I think helps most is dotting the ointment in 6 spots instead of smearing it from left to right where most of it gets used up too early. It will be evenly distributed and a thin layer.
Also use paper towels instead of a cloth towel, it's more sanitary!

One funny thing I found with bandage healing is that it is COLD! My first saniderm experience was on a big ole rib tattoo, and having a large swatch of wet-but-breathable material right on the side of my core in early March made me so freezing cold I had to give up early, take the bandage off, and do it the old-fashioned way. So I guess my advice there is, if you are a weenie like me and using saniderm on your tummy, be prepared to bundle up!
Also, I would make sure that you have the entire area that the bandage is applied to fully shaved. My artist very respectfully did not shave all they way up to my, uh, underboob zone, and peeling the bandage off hurt worse than the actual tattoo. For the second session I asked if I could take a moment to shave that area where he wasn't tattooing but the bandage would be applied before we got started, problem solved.

Wish I saw this before I got my white ink tattoo. I did the bandage healing on an all white piece. Ended up being allergic to the white ink but didnt know the signs 😭
My advice through my experience is if you’ve use the wrap before and never had issues but for some reason it’s getting itchy before the allotted time to remove it is up. Just take it off immediately and take a Benadryl.
I was insanely uncomfortable for 2 weeks on antibiotics thinking I had an infection till I tried Benadryl and it all went away. Had to take it for awhile after till I could use the Benadryl cream every other day to now where I don’t have to use it.

Cleaned my hands, put on gloves, cleaned my ankle and used some neosporn cream pain relief ointment as lubricant (not for the pain relief property, its just what i had) and went at it. I'm now watching this video for aftercare tips. So far, before watching this video I think im going to wash once a day with anti bacterial soap. After the wash i will put neosporn back on and but a bandaid over it which is whag ive done just now right after the tattooing process

My tattoo artist doesn't give aftercare instructions anymore since I've had a few 😂 it's been just over 2 weeks since the first session on my thigh piece and my skin had some sort of reaction to the usual topicals I had used before - the orange dial soap and hustle butter. She thinks it was probably from my laundry detergent, altho it always flares up after I wash it. Almost looks like red spider veins, but it dissappears at times and I don't have spider veins there. Gets slightly itchy, too. Anyone else have this happen to them??

Commenting before I watch this fully to say how I heal my tattoos lol, I always use a tattoo bandage of some kind that I usually replace after the first 24 hours (but if my tattoo barely leaks I’ll end up leaving it on for around 4 days) and then I’ll clean it with Dr. Bronzer’s baby soap before putting on a second bandage that I’ll leave on for up to a week but it never really lasts that long because it gets too itchy. Once I take off the second bandage (in the shower by the way) I’ll wash it again with the Dr. Bronzer’s baby soap and I apply a tiny bit of non scented lotion to it and then just forget about it. I only put on more lotion sporadically if it feels super itchy.

I wish I could try bandage healing but I’m very allergic to adhesive to the point that my artist has to be very careful with attaching a dressing to my fresh tattoos so as to not have anything touch my skin. I learned about my allergy the hard way when doctors made a support for my shoulder with adhesive to prevent dislocation following a brain injury. The reaction was rapid and dramatic.

Those adhesives like saniderm gave me such bad reactions I almost scarred/and blistered. Thankfully this wasn’t during healing a tattoo, but now I know not to use it.

People don't want to believe how easy it is to heal a tattoo, they want to buy some silly product instead of doing it properly. LEAVE IT ALONE, tattooers dry heal because they know the most about tattoos and have hundreds of tattoos. Just wash it twice a day with dial, air dry, keep it clean and don't touch it. If you really cant take the itch when it starts scabbing apply the smallest amount of lubriderm. Don't let it in the sun for 4 weeks and don't submerge it. That's it!

redness and itching around the perimeter of your bandage is more likely to be localized infection from bacteria getting trapped around the edges. I'm allergic to a lot of adhesives but tattoo bandages never give me problems
