When Dr. Jill Manning began her career as a therapist, she quickly realized how many people of all ages struggled with issues surrounding the use of pornography, including addiction and betrayal trauma. This led her to obtain a Ph.D. in marriage and family therapy, specializing in betrayal trauma. In this episode, Dr. Jill Manning explains how betrayal trauma victims are affected by their partner's porn use and offers advice to listeners who are experiencing betrayal trauma.
Fight the New Drug is a non-religious and non-legislative organization that exists to provide individuals the opportunity to make an informed decision regarding pornography by raising awareness on its harmful effects using only science, facts, and personal accounts.

I'm a wife and I am traumatised by this in my marriage. It's a nightmare I'm living in. It's a monster. Its destroying my family, and I wish people took this seriously.

My former husband was into porn. It was so humiliating and dehumanizing.

Ruined my marriage and trust in any man. I think they are all perverts. I never use to. I don’t know the man I married and grieve for the one I thought he was.

I can't find it in myself to forgive, especially when my husband tried to act out painful and humiliating sex in the bedroom, without my consent.

Most of my life has been overcoming betrayal trauma from a porn addict. Molested by an uncle...step father...grand father. Raped as a child. Found out first boyfriend was a porn addict, first husband was a porn addict now husband is a recovering porn addict of over 25 years. I'm so messed up from the manipulation, lies, deceit. The emotional abuse from all of this over decades...porn is a demon.

It's wild to me that people like us have multiple sexual traumas in our lives. It's like once it happens as a child we have a freaking neon sign on our heads for only abusers to be able to read.
Somehow we become magnets for it.
Those who are ignorant to this take out life stories and can't believe it because they can't fathom it happening over and over by different people throughout our lives. It's so rare that someone understands at all or can even relate let alone believe the horrific events I've been through.
I imagine you have dealt with the same 😢.
I love you for sharing. Sometimes you just don't even know how many people relate to your acknowledgement of your trauma and it makes some feel not so alone.
Sometimes I am happy that people can't believe what I've been through because that means they have never had to experience it and have had a life sheltered from abuse but then other times it really hurts that others can't empathize with me at all.
I do wish I could afford therapy

Raped by my mother until I asked her for the word to describe what she was doing... (around age 4)... introduced me to my father's playboys... perhaps so as to cover her tracks... (so she could suggest that any precocity was his fault, not hers...🤷🏼)... he was a functional drinker and CEO...
18 years of that... yeah... no one throws a parade for you.
It made becoming a widower, after 40 years of a real mutual friendship, unbearable.

This is so helpful. I always thought the trauma was my fault for not being able to deal with it.

Losing hope and this gave me some guidance in how I can get support, I feel crazy that I could go from genuinely happy to suicidal overnight all from this trauma and the lies … it makes me feel so insane , very destabilizing

34:46 What about the repeated betrayal of the social contract vis a vis contract stalking (organized stalking and covert harassment), a course of conduct crime currently squirreled by ethicless criminals as a "civic" matter, which can last decades and maliciously, over time, completely destroy the life of the target, who is NEVER afforded any of their Constitutional rights (indefinite detention under false circumstances, in order to degrade the health, welfare and wellbeing of a human being as a CONTRACT KILLING DONE OVER TIME)?

Can you explain what you're talking about? Very confused by this comment. Obviously you don't owe an explanation, I'm just trying to make sense of your comment. Xx
