Wow man phenomenal job, I learned photoshop in one day without paying for a course. It's all thanks to you. Now I can cancel my Illustrator monthly payment. These are the essential rendering commands that architects can use.
@Upstairs Very cool, cheers for that. Someone just pointed it out, and I thought I would give a well-deserved thanks, better late than never. Keep up the great content.
This is amazing content, thank you for posting such an informative video. I’m a graphic design major but enjoy incorporating architectural facets to my designs and love working on little DIY projects like this on Photoshop in my free time. Bests!
In your Tutorial, I found all the shortcuts and more I learned over my academic years and eventually forgot and couldn't find them as they were deep set in long tutorial videos. Your video is lucid, short and on point. I hope you keep creating such videos and keep helping the learners and beginners. All the best for your career. Bless you, mate.
If I could subscribe and give another like I would over and over again. Like others here I have used this video as a complete novice in architectural rendering to now producing images for my third year final projects with some competency. Thanks again
I was checking out your channel and found this video. Didn't expect it to be this useful but it ended up solving some of my major photoshop questions. thank you, thank you!!
For the first tip, using clipping mask is so much faster. Just define the area you want for the texture (can be just a white rectangle) and in a new layer add the pattern. Then clip mask the pattern layer to the area.
I can save you even more time when creating masks. If you select the area you want to see then click on the mask button it will save you both time and energy, masking everything other than the selection. I hope that is helpful to you all
That's indeed a smarter way to do it. And to be honest that's what I actually do. But this is one step further than plain masks. A bit more advanced for those just stepping into the world of masks 😅 Again, nicely pointed out! Thanks!
The shadows are already accurately represented from V-Ray. Just drag the original image to the top of the layer stack and change the blend mode to multiply. Saves all the time adjusting shadows manually.
Thanks for the tips! It sure does saves a lot of time if the render is set to "override material" as this one. But as I only used this as an example for any type of render. For instance, imagine changing an existing rendered brick wall to a concrete wall. Setting the the original image to multiply would transfer not only the shadows but all the brick details to the new concrete texture. Hope that helps! Thanks a lot for the extra info!
Very true. Didn't think of that scenario. I usually use clay renders myself for shadows guess that's why. Big thumbs up on that channel BTW, just found it today, really enjoying the videos. Especially the axo study model vid... reminded me of my final project in Undergrad. Cheers.
Yeah I think it depends on how people deal with this process render + post production, but you shared some good extra information for anyone learning this specific step! Thanks a lot for the compliment! Glad I could reach not only the begginers, but those more advanced in Architecture Representation
But who works only with beauty pass only? The trick for architects, is to learn how to compose their render elements and channels to make something, that allows easy changes in materials etc. That's the game changer.
jurysdykcja You're right! That's the real game changer. This video is only supposed to show some basic and unique techniques for someone getting into this world. Thanks for the tip!
Hi Kimarath! Photoshop CC has that option built in over the brush pop up window, that one that shows when you right click with the brush tool. Make sure to update your photoshop to have this feature there. Or, it will be over the brush panel as you said
Hi Ciaran, usually when you import a texture into Photoshop, it comes as a Smart Object by default, which basically means that you can scale back and forth without losing quality. But in order to make any changes to the pixels on that new layer, you first need to remove from being a Smart Object, therefore rasterizing it. I know the name is kind of confusing, but I hope I could make my self clear. Let me know if you got it! Cheers
When I open the quick options menu for brushes, the shape modifier doesn't appear. It appears only when I open the full menu. Can I enable this feature somehow or whet? Thanks in advance. Great video btw, learnt a few things
Hi there! This feature located in the quick brush tab only appears on the CC version. On previous ones it is located as you described. I'm not sure you can enable it. Thanks a lot!
Thanks a lot! Very good tutorial. I want to ask what do I have to do to use Alt to change the size and hardness of the brush as you show in the video instead of taking a sample of the color. I'm a using Macbook
Hi Ricardo! Rasterizing an image is essential when you need to edit it right on the same layer. Otherwise it would be blocked and you could delete pixels, paint in with a brush or even change the saturation. But if you're not planning to edit the image, you should leave as a smart object for sure
that was super helpful video thanks and if any other tips you will share that would be just perfect one more thing, I wonder if you can give such a nice tips for illustrator (if you know surely ) thanks for the video again 😍
Great video! I have a couple of questions, sometimes the 'Rasterize layer' option is turned off and wont let me select, why is that? My other question is how do I decide which of the 2 mask methods you mentioned is the right one for my project? Thanks a lot
Thanks Dunia! Alright! Well if the rasterize is greyed out/turned off that means that the layer is not a smart object, therefore it is already rasterized. About the masks... you gotta use both of them in every project 😁
@@LearnUpstairs Thank you! I got the rasterize thing. As for the mask, I think i have to dig deeper to know the difference between the two and how to decide which to use when!
Thank you for all these videos I have learned a lot because of it! I was wondering, I don't know why i can't copy the image with ctrl A ( like you do in the minute 2:10 )do you have any idea why is this happening ? Thank you!
Hi Imarino! To copy within the same layer, you have to make sure your layer is rasterized and not a smart object. Then you should use the move tool to move the selection you made while holding alt. I hope that works 😀
Thank you! You can use *Alt* while moving to fast copy, if you have a selection made it will copy within the same layer, otherwise it will create a new one. Also, for the pink guide lines, it's the version of Photoshop, it's the CC.

Hi Carolina! Thanks a lot for the feedback! This project is from a Brazilian Architect that I admire a lot, Marcio Kogan. I traced over in photoshop just to show the tips. But you can achieve a similiar effect modelling in Sketchup for example and exporting a jpg/png using a Black and White Style. I hope this helps you out. Cheers!

Question: Isn't the wood texture a bitmap as well? If so, why would you need to rasterize if it's not a vector image?
