Sam ,and I compare these two inflatable kayaks side by side. So far, we have loved everything about them. If you are wanting to get into Kayaking, these are a great starting point. We love how easy they are to setup ,and get going on the water and also how easily they are to transport. One thing I might mention that was not in the video that I like about the Explorer is that it does have a drain plug in the back ,and the challenger model does not. Also the explorer has grab handles on each end for easy transport to ,and from the water. This video was shot using the Iphone 7 and Gopro hero4.

For all of those interested in the Explorer K2 kayak. It is quite durable! I have gone down multiple rivers and lakes with this thing without issues...That is until 2 weeks ago I got my first leak. No it wasn't from the sticks and rocks that I kept running into, but rather a bandit creature that decided to make my drying kayak his chew toy. Yes, a raccoon bit a hole in my kayak, but the patches fixed it up in no time and now it is good as new!

As someone who has both of them, the Explorer (Yellow one) is way better for camping trips, bringing your dog, bringing supplies, not tipping over, and leg room.
The Challenger is super crammed with 2 people, if you are over 6 ft tall, your legs wont fit in the front seat of the challenger, it's really more of a children kayak, plus you have to store most stuff behind the back seat and it can make retrieving it a pain.
Although the explorer is more of a canoe technically, it has much more practical uses in my experience. The challenger is more of a recreational, float on the water for fun storta deal. The Explorer could easily be used for a 1 or 2-person camp trip or even 1 person + dog.
My girlfriend and I use both when we go out, but the Explorer holds Myself (6 ft 2 male) our tent, two 20L dry bags (food and supplies), and our dog (a medium sized pitbull) (this is all without the 2nd seat installed)
The Challenger just holds Her (a 5 ft 6 female) and a 30L dry bag in the back.

Stone Malone. thanks for the review man. i dont have non but assumed what u said. based on reviews and price the challenger is good for 1 adult and sum stuff, and explorer more of a heavier rugged version for a bit more capabilities!!

I have the Challenger. It's a solid kayak. Much more stable than my recreational hard shell kayak and tracks just as well.
Most of the time, I use it solo. I just sit in the back, and it performs just fine.

Good demo vid - I own both versions of these kayaks. They are nice but i prefer the k2 challenger because i can hop off it into the water and swim then climb back on it from the back side and get back in by myself and i cant do that on the explorer version because it tips over . The explorer version also sits higher catching more wind so you get blown around more so i got a 3 lb anchor to use with both kayaks on windy days . An advantage the explorer has over the challenger though is the explorer has a nice water drainage plug built in it to drain the excess water out from the inside of the kayak which the challenger version does not have so its harder to clean a dry the inside if you store it in your car like i do. Also the challenger version only has 2 air chambers in total where as the explorer has 3 chambers . Neither one of them patch that well at all even with high strength epoxy glue . The patches they include in the package only last a week or 2 then come off. And one more tid bit of my nerd induced info here is that i drill a small hole through the bottom fin and its support bracket from a side angle then i put a safety pin through the hole to keep the fin from falling off because they dislodge if the hit rocks or bottom and dont float so you lose them , and these kayaks are really hard to control with out the fin.

For what I paid new, the Challenger K2 ROCKED!! $60 delivered before a big camping weekend and it did not let me down!!! Been rafting a lazy river for years, decided this year I wanted a Kayak and NOT a tube. Plenty of room behind the seat for items that could get wet, like the pump (the rafters were happy I brought it, I did not need it even after hours in direct sun) and the cargo net kept my dry items DRY, with a dry bag, lol!! Forgot the rudder one day and still preformed amazing, in a river. I talked to another person at a lake and they said wind was not a factor on a lake that the wind blows across regularly!! Did not buy the Explorer, strictly based on color, but I saw about 6 of the Challengers that weekend and we all said, YEAH!!!
