You may want to look at the Excursion Pro being a bigger guy. It costs twice as much, but it's sturdier material, and comes with a foot rest, and a few other things. Also look into the Sea Eagle 370 pro. I believe it's slightly longer, and also made of stronger stuff. Hope this helps.

Me and 4 Freinds took K2 explorers on the Buffalo River from Ponca to Pruitt we came across a fork and chose left because it looked less shallow unfortunately there was a huge downed tree with a path by the shore just big enough to squeeze through 3 of use made it my last friend didnt get far enough left and got sucked around towards the downed tree he had to bail and the K2 went under the tree and got caught between 3 different parts of the tree in a very strong flow luckily my friend escaped with just bruises and cuts we managed to cut his stuff loose then deflate the K2 and somehow manage to free it all while standing in freezing cold rapids and madde it all to shore just a little ways down the K2 survived with just a few scratches we drained the water and re inflated it and finished the trip i was amazed at its durability i thought for sure when i saw it pinned like that that it was done for lol

I just purchased a K2 Explorer to compliment my Seahawk 2. Two different kinds of boats for less than $125! The quality of materials is amazing for the price paid and I don't think there is a better bang for the buck than an Intex inflatable boat, no matter which model you choose.

@@livetoencourage1223 For those of us limited on storage space, manpower and budget, like myself, there is no better and easier way to get out on the water than this! I don't have the help I need to restore a fixer-upper or a place to keep it, so I chose this route. In the past, I would have never considered an inflatable boat, but the technology has improved greatly in recent years, and price has also come way down, making them a safe and viable alternative to a regular boat. After going through all the hassles of owning and maintaining several different kinds of boats over the years, I decided to go pure and simple this time around!

About to get a K2 Explorer and rig it for sail. I already have a K1 and it's the best kayak I've ever owned. Tracks good, stable, absurdly inexpensive, and... comfortable! I will very often paddle sitting cross-legged, with one or both legs up on the bow, or even sideways with one or both in the water! In fact it's difficult to fight the urge to paddle to some place shady and kick back and take a nap in that thing!

I have the K2 Explorer and I did a lot of sea kaiaking. It was def fun, it's stable and it has lots of space, but it doesn't go very straight and a lot of correction is needed (push harder on one side and smoother on the other). Besides, when I had strong wind, it was a pain as it's tall and it picks it up. I am def changing for the Challenger K2 as it's more kaiak than the Explorer, that feels like a boat/canoe. Though we had so much fun with the yellow boatie. Last year we went from Ksamil, Albania to Corfu, Greece in it, a 5km open sea crossing. Super adventure.

Will probably get the explorer based on the fact it has more cargo, the fin / skeg and handles not too mention the extra vents / plugs for letting air out easier. I also like the visibility factor.

I'm a pretty big guy (6ft 230lbs) and I would recommend buying the K2 Explorer and mid-mounting the seat and going solo, although you may need to rig up some extra back support depending on your shape and preferred posture... One thing I would say about the explorer K2 is that its self bailing whereas the challenger (specifically the K1) isn't. I assume the K2 challenger is also fully sealed? Problem with that is that they are tough to empty out if you take on a wave and definitely harder to empty out when you get it back ashore as the water kind of wants to roll around inside (like a car tire)
The explorers are wider so maybe not as nimble but again that may suit a couple or a large occupant as you have more space to move around and to store kit if you are out all day and have kit with you. You can still race along in one of these in calm water though. The skeg does a pretty decent job keeping you on course
I found the Explorer easier to get in and out of too as it's more open and stable. The Challenger is more like a streamlined kayak so you can navigate quicker BUT you are more enclosed and cannot spread yourself out as easy to keep yourself flat. One minor gripe with the challenger is that the seam around the front (where your knees are) is a sharpish seam so you may graze your shins clambering in especially if you are facing a small tide... more of an issue with the K1 than the K2 Challenger I guess, and probably less of an issue if you are a teenager or a smaller framed adult human ! I felt a little more vulnerable in the K1 from a stability standpoint but maybe because I took this out to sea, maybe 800meters off the shoreline with a bit of a swell. Still felt fine but I found my self sitting cross-legged to stabilise myself which I had never had to do in a more traditional 1man kayak
There is a reason why these have proven to be so popular and it isn't just the price. I've seen RUclips videos of people fitting a foldable solid plywood deck in these with a proper chair for fishing.
All in all, I agree with the info in the video. The challenger is great for kids and a little more agile and sporty, whereas the explorer is definitely more for leisure. In truth they are both ridiculously good and a lot of fun for everyone at the pricepoint. Well made, great accessories and very practical once you have set up and taken them down a couple of times. Just remember to buy everyone lifejackets and get yourself a few waterproof bags for your kit and you'll have a great time with any of these

We just got two Explorer K2. My wife had no issues in hers. It was my first time out. I'm 256 lbs and 5' 9" and not in great shape. I was unable to find an adjustment on the seat that worked for me. The back support straps were just two low for me to stay sitting up for very long. If I leaned back at all, they just slid down lower. It made for a very long day since I was unable to resolve it. I'm going to spend some time looking for solutions and experimenting some more. So far, it is looking like getting a stadium seat may be the best answer.

@@johnmcquistion4548 I know exactly what you mean. I ended up just packing out the kayak behind my seat with our kit bags but I wouldn't have expected to get anything better for the money. I also tried my friends $350 inflatable and was just the same with the standard inflatable low-back chair so it isn't down to it being a budget boat problem... I think if we are honest we know what the problem is eh? LOL

As an experienced kayaker, I would believe the challengers to be more wind resistant and a little faster. The explorer on the other hand, more sea worthy, better weight capacity but more wind drag and not quite as fast. Am I correct? I used a sevylor Tahiti years ago (similar to explorer) and it had a good deal of wind drag but I really liked it. Also does either of these kayaks have a skeg fin?

We have have a Explorer K2 that we let guests use, and we've found that having the person sit in the front seat is much better than the back seat. When a person is seated in the back seat the front end moves from side to side with each paddle, and it is hard to keep it straight. It also really helps to use the fin on the bottom of the kayak. Don't forget to put that on. Our friends can keep up, but it definitely is more work.

I just took my explorer k2 out today and I can definitely say I should have sat in the middle. The front end sways side to side with each paddle if you sit in the back. I could feel the wind picking up on the front end too. It has tons of space. I was nervous to get in it but it's very stable.
The sides are very wide. Meaning you have to paddle more outwards than usual.
Besides that it's definitely worth the like $120 CAD I paid

But my girlfriend has the green one and I couldn't get my legs comfortably into the front space when I tried it (I'm 6 ft2)
Also the Yellow one seemed more stable and less likely to flip to me.

@@Xener09 Thanks that's very useful since I am 6' also. Was going to get the challenger since specs say it is longer but need the legroom. Unfortunately nothing is available now due to the pandemic

def the k2, you can put a crate behind the rear seat.

The challenger looks like a raft to me. The Explorer is styled like a real boat/kyaak.

almost a great review. 1/2 the video was watching you paddle around. I'd rather get more details of a comparison rather than "it depends on what you are going to do with them". Tell me why you might choose one over the other.
