    Hi Lindsay, I have been watching your channel for about a year now. And I have to tell you that everyday that I turn on my comp. I look for you video. I want to tell you how much I appreciate all the time you give us. I love of course anything to do with watercolor, So this is mainly a thank you so much. I am disabled and have lost my husband and my son. And when I turn you on you are so up beat and just make my day. Again thank you!!!!!!!!

    Thanks for another brilliant video. I only started stamping earlier this year, so relatively new, even though I have managed to amass around 400 stamps in 6 months - yay for crafters who sell their clearouts on ebay, now there's a frugal tip to share! If you're new to a technique and don't want to spend a lot getting various tools & media check out internet auction sites..... That way if it's not for you, at least you can say you tried, relist your unwanted items back to the auction site so you can recoup some money towards other craft supplies *and* pay it forward to another crafter on a tight budget. Spread the love folks lol .......But ya know, it never occured to me till watching your videos that I don't have to use just ink pads for stamping!

    I'm in high school right now but I've been interested in art for years. I've always been talented with colored pencil, but recently, because of your videos, I've been very into watercolor. My parents are very straight up with me and they say that now I'm doing the best work I've ever done and watercolor is really my medium. Thank you for inspiring me.

  • @sachetfm

    Just a note about adding iridescence to an image. Winsor and Newton makes a watercolor iridescent medium that works much like the iridescent pen you've used. But it's even more versatile because you can add it in addition to or even in place of water when using actual watercolors to make any of your watercolors sparkle. It also works well (and doesn't seem to smear) already colored (with watercolor) parts of an image. Amazon has it (with it's free Prime shipping) for less than $10. It lasts for quite a long time--I've had my bottle for 5 years or so with no apparent degradation in quality

    • @jaspermartin7444
      @jaspermartin7444 6 лет назад

      Hello, any idea if the W&N version is better than the Liquitex iridescence? Since one bottle lasts a long time, inquiring minds want to know! And also thanks for the tip, will definitely have to try. I bought some Liquitex a while back, can't even remember why I bought it, just that more shiny is always good and still haven't used it yet.

    I am not a violent person, but I've got to say, whoever gives any of your videos a thumbs down, especially these videos, where your doing nothing but giving us your time, all while patiently educating us, simply needs to have their 'clicking finger' smashed in a massive stack of those old and heavy encyclopedia sets. That said, THANK YOU for another informative stamp school! I've been stamping and crafting for 28 years (ack, I'm so old!!) and I've still learned something from every video. As well as having been reminded of a few things I'd forgotten or tend to overlook. So a HUGE thank you dear!!

    I have several of the Zig Wink of Stella brush markers in the clear...LOVE Them. I am on my fourth fill with water on the first one that I opened and it's still giving me shimmer galore. I opened a new one and compared the the new to my well used original and I actually like the water refilled one better. As you say, when all is finally done you have a great aqua pen, but you get a lot of use from the refills before you'll run dry. So very well worth the money. I have all of the colors, but really, the clear one and the black one are the only ones I would really need.

    • @path6741
      @path6741 9 лет назад +1

      Patricia Walker I have a set I got on sale after Christmas last year, red, green and white. I thought the white was the same as clear--big mistake. I would not buy the white again. It dries chalky with a little bit of gold sparkle. I got a clear and like it the best. It goes with any color and doesn't hide what is underneath like the colored ones can. And since the edges don't show clearly you can't see if you get it out of a line as bad as the ones with color as well as sparkle. I haven't tried the black--maybe I'll try it next time I order more clear.

    • @aptwalker2009
      @aptwalker2009 9 лет назад

      Pat Hathaway I agree about the white..it has very limited use IMO. But the black was the reason that I went looking in the first place. It's hard to find a black glitter pen. I had tried the AtYouSpica? think that's what they are called. I liked some of them, but the black was weak. Once I got the black and the clear, I was so sold on them that I picked up all the other colors. I like the silver and gold and the light green. But in reality, the clear will work over all other media to produce the same effect, so it's just not necessary to have them. I do use the brown often as I love the rich brown color used in the ink.

    Hi, Lindsay. Was talking to Annette at Art Neko today, and we agreed that you are a very talented and giving person. It is so kind of you to share your skills with the rest of us and to do your wonderful tutorials with beginners in mind. I don't know how you do all that you do with children and a household to take care of, too. I think you are an extraordinary person. Thank you for sharing with the rest of us. I would watch you tutorials no matter how long they were, because I am learning something every minute I and love the way you work with us, so we can see what you are doing every step of the way. I'm getting a lot of head knowledge and hope one day to be able to actually DO what I am learning from you. Learning to draw would help, LOL.

    Great tips, Lindsay! For the Wink of Stella, when it stop dispensing glitter, I have heard from Jennifer McGuire that you can add water into it, and shake it up. Usually there's enough glitter in the bottom to mix up and you can get more life from your pen.

  • @path6741
    @path6741 9 лет назад

    I thought your speed was just fine. You always have something new to teach me even though I've been stamps for years. I liked the frame idea and the splattering. That made a really nice background. Great tutorial.
    I have one of those snap-ware boxes full of many brands of w/c pencils but I keep going back to the Prismacolor ones. So I used some of my birthday money to buy the 36 set. It says the colors match the regular colored pencils in the Prismacolor line and I thought that might be useful (since I got the big set of those for Christmas.)
    As I was watching the video I realized that my Dove blender pen would probably work like the one you were using. I usually only use it with chalk, but the refill solution is water and glycerin. I have some replacement tips for it but, like you, I use something sharp to shape it up if the tip gets frizzed. I usually use a craft knife and chisel it back to the firm area in the tip.

    I know this is an old video but I couldn't locate an answer to the sharpening question elsewhere on your channel...how are watercolor pencils maintained and sharpened? Which types or brands of sharpeners are best? ( or should I use a penknife and sanding paddle like I do with drawing pencils?) A rotary sharpener just chewed up my watercolor pencils and clogged my sharpener. I do love this series- you did a great job making many mediums accessible and introducing the stamping world to lots of people without lots of money to collect specialized supplies! Thank you~

    I'm using the Koh-i-noor watercolor pencils since it's the only brand I can get here comfortably (it's Czech brand) and I like them very much, they look harder than those you use (especially the inktence) and sometimes leave pencil marks, but it depends on paper.

    Great video as always. I love Koh-I-Noor pencils and I've never been disappointed. I've got a set of 24 of each of the Mondeluz and Derwent Watercolours. To be honest, you'd never tell if you didn't see the pencil livery. I live in the UK and love Derwent products, but I believe in giving credit where it's due. Also, the Faber Castell Art Grip Aquarell are really nice too, though I'm not as keen on their dry ones as they're a bit greasy. The Koh-I-
    Noor Polycolor on the other hand are just about the best wax based pencils I've used. They blend even better than the Derwent Artist pencils. Yup - I've got waaaayyy too many sets of pencils! Had I known though, I'd have just got the Koh-I-Noor for a great price with no compromise on quality.

    I just found your 'Stamp School' series of videos, and am thoroughly enjoying them! I've been stamping for about a year, and your videos have taught me so much, both about technique and about products such as the Wink of Stella you demonstrated in this one. I love the pace, don't speed them up, I am a visual learner, and watching you is really helpful. Watercolor is a scary medium for me but you make it look so easy I am eager to give it a try. This card has a sweet innocence that is very appealing. One question, when using the 110# cardstock does the color bleed into the other side of the card so that you see it when the card is opened? TFS!

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  7 лет назад

      it shouldn't if you are using water-media, the only that won't bleed with alcohol pens is GinaK Heavy weight

    Hi Ms Lindsay! Was so excited & definitely happy about the Stamp School Classes!! You made me laugh... yes you DO fly especially as you get into the class but hey, that's what pause and replay are for (which I use a lot as I'm taking detailed notes!!). So happy happy! :)
    I do have a question or few, hopefully not too remedial:
    1. you mentioned you can use regular color pencils (which I'd never heard so thank you as I don't have the money to get water color pencils at this time), and you said to use baby oil:
    a. can you use the blender pen with the baby oil or do you use a regular paint brush or something else? If I can use my blender pen, how do I clean it?
    b. can you use canola oil?
    c. will scented baby oil be a problem?
    2. I have a SU blender pen that has not been used, and seems to be "dry." Do you think it still has stuff inside and just the tip is dry (I'll do the water/glycerine mix tip you mentioned)? If I have to fill it, can water work or does it need to be water/glycerine?
    Thank you so much for doing these fabulous videos!! I love making cards but have never thought of trying water color techniques, so I'm going to try. I don't know the shadowing techniques but I'm watching you closely and will mimic until I get it! :)
    And I watch the ads to the end in order for you to get credit/paid! YAAY!

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  9 лет назад

      Annette Aiwohi Aww, thank you, I recommend using either baby oil, goo-gone or mineral sprits to blend regular colored pencils. I dip a pointy q-tip (they are sold is small packs at the Dollar tree or drugstores) in the liquid and blend, It works great! Give it a try, it is a lot of fun and you can get the look of watercolor pencils ad copics:)

    • @annetteaiwohi9170

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  9 лет назад

      Annette Aiwohi just use water and glycerin, if you don't want to get a big bottle of it you can buy a small bottle (4oz) at walmart for $4 and it will be a lifetime supply for marker and ink refills (it is basically embossing ink) or you can get a pack of glycerin suppositories (LOL right) and break one open and use that liquid mixed wit water for the pen.

    Hi Lindsay!
    Quick question.... The watercolor cards that you make to sell, do you add a sealant to help protect them? If so what type?
    Thanks!

    Hello Lindsay, I have heard you mention the color wheel. I probably should know what you are talking about but I don't. Could you point me to whatever this is. I am a beginning crafter and never knew I liked coloring and creating until I had an accident that kept me immobile and very bored. All the best, Sean

      +Sean Mooney you can buy a small color wheel at an art store or search color wheel or color theory online for more info:)

    Why does she always sound apologetic when talking about earning for videos??? Lol what?! I mean EVERYONE needs money. We allll need a source of income and if you found a way to make momey out of something you love and are good at, then that's amazing!!! AND we are very lucky to have someone so knowledgeable and experienced and talented as yourself just giving us useful information and teaching us for FREE. I mean, damn I learned more from you through a video than I ever have from my high school art teacher! (I'm currently a senior) sooooo point is... THANK YOU for all you do! I sincerely LOVE your videos and you're one of the few RUclipsrs that I actually look forward to see your content and look up to see daily if your video is up yet. And usually when you do a video that has an art form I don't do, I still like to put your videos on and listen to your videos as background noise as I work on my art. It makes me feel like I have company :) One that isn't going to keep annoying me and interrupt me every 2 seconds!
    P.S: I really enjoy your rambling and long videos :)

    Hi, I saw a lot of Stella glitter pens in colors when I went through your link, but I didn't see a clear one like you used here or a pearllized one. Also, forgive the off topic, but I haven't seen any tutorials on how to use the foam stamps that I had gotten for the kids for adult projects (or should I just throw them out?), or on how to use stencils. Maybe I just missed the ones on stencils, and the only tutorials I've seen on the foam stamps were by kids for kids.

      Thank you. I really loved this tutorial a lot, but I was hoping for one that would tell me how to use the ready made foam stamps that I bought for the kids. I actually have quite a few. They feel smooth and solid. One is a flower, another cattails, one a sea horse, and various others. I have no idea what to use to ink them with, or what paper I should use, or how to "dress them up" a bit for an adult type finished project. Because they are children's the images are fairly large, and just the basic shapes with no real details. I'm glad you sent me the link to this other tutorial, though. It was great.

    A question! A friend of mine would like to buy colored pencils. I suggested that she buy watercolor pencils. I like Prismacolor. I told her that if she wants to use them like regular color pencils she could, but she would also have the advantage of watercolor pencils should she ever wish to use that technique. Does that sound like a good suggestion? Price is not a consideration. Thanks!

      @thefrugalcrafter  9 лет назад

      Margie Rosenthal I think so, they won't be as opaque or creamy as colored pencils but you can use them wet or dry. If your friend is in love with the rich soft creamy feel of good wax or oil pencils she may not like the drier lead of the watercolor pencils though.

    Do you ever mount your ArtNeko stamps or just use a glue stick?

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  9 лет назад +1

      Work Reports I do both:) I put them on cling cushion or use Aleens tack it glue eventually but if I am too excited out comes the glue stick!

    • @workreports704
      @workreports704 9 лет назад

      thefrugalcrafter Lindsay Weirich how to you decide which ones you will mount and which you will just use Aleens? I just purchased a lot of stamps from them, I noticed that the rubber is different for each set.

    Very unrelated but is there a different between distress and other ink pads

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  9 лет назад

      Fabulous Flamingo they are a dye ink but they are not the best for stamping, better for special effects. I would not get them as your first inks ut add a few to your collection as you go for blushing the edges of cards.

    Why do you put washi tape around your watercolor pencils? I have seen this a couple of times and just want to know why.

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  9 лет назад

      Work Reports LOL! Because they are the Prima 12 sets and if I want to put them back in their tins it is so I will know what set they came from and also many colors arein several sets so I wanted to see how many dupicate colors there were between sets, 24 it turns out!

    Hi Lindsay, just a quick question. When you do these and have the offer, where you have to mention that you got it through the Frugalcrafter. is the offer only on for that day. Or is it a forever offer, so if I saw the offer 6 months after it was posted, id still get the offer if i mentioned I was getting it through you the frugalcrafter ? Many thanks
