Use to be a restaurant bar in palacios tx you could take your catch to an they'd cook it for you. Really fun just a block away from the peir. Down the block from the old Luther hotel.
Find the oyster reefs and you will be slaying them big ones one after another till your arms are sore. Fish Palacios TX it's great there right off the peir all over that bay big trout Loads of fun. Nice people to.
I use to fish with an Asian man named Kenny on the pier in Palacios Tx, he was a fishing addict, he spent beaucoup bucks on his reels, rods an tackle. I got my stuff at Walmart and it held up pretty well. He owned a restaurant in Bay City(not Baytown)and taught me a few tricks. If you want sheep head off the pier you need a long pole(home made scrapper) to scrape the barnacles on the piers pilings. It attracts the sheep head like metal to a magnet. The sheep heads kill your bait while trout fishing if your free lining shrimp, a reel pisser. their mouths are small and they just bite the head, won't take the bait because the hooks to big. Live shrimp are premium bait and they ruin it. SO to get even you need a smaller hook and a jar of fresh oysters for bait, scrape the piling a little or a bunch and get them back. He taught me a trick about eating the juicy white flesh of the sheep head. DON"T try to scale or fillet them (unless your a pro), their scales are as big and tough as your big toes nail and contour of fish is hard to fillet. You clean them and and butterfly them in their shells. They kind of resemble giant oysters on the half shell? Season them with whatever your dreams are as good then BBQ them Bake even pan fry no need to flip, they cook in their juices. The white meat flakes off the bone with a fork, be a grown up and just leave a skeleton and scaly shell like an ally cat in a cartoon. Their tasty an easy to catch when you know how. I think those Asians in Palacios moved there when Vietnam fell. Kenny was so nice and welcoming he gave me the honor of free lunch or dinner at his restaurant any time for taking a picture of him with a 28 inch trout he caught . I blew up the photo framed it and gave it to him as a gift for being so nice and teaching me so many fishing tricks. His wife was jealous. Ahahaha lol, the restaurant was across the street from the HEB in Bay City so she saw me once a week getting free lunch after shopping, and he had the photo hanging on the wall behind the cash register. Great times...
0h now that you can't free line shrimp, hard to find live bait in fall. That Smelly Jelly shrimp flavor really works good on rubber worms. I use to drive all the way to Victoria just to find it. After using it you'll see. Those trout can't help themselves you also have to find out which color is working day to day. It's weird they change their minds every day which color they like.
I like it because the hi-vis braid is easy for me to see during long casts and when I'm retrieving. It helps especially when I'm trying to determine depth (watching the line sink or stop one the lure hits the bottom) or if I'm trying to see the path of my retrieve as the line lays on top of the water. I don't believe that the mainline has an effect on strikes, and I tie about 2 - 2 1/2 feet of leader, just to put some distance between the lure and the mainline so there's nothing for fish to be wary of.
It's a EverLast G2 Pro Landing Net. It's my favorite net to use because it's got the rubber mesh that helps keep slime on fish (especially trout) and it floats!
Just got that kayak net you are using last month and have been finding with the bigger fish I could use another 6-12 inches of handle length. You don't seem to be having that issue I guess.
Your in for a long drive or a plane ride. Just bring your wallet if you take a plane , Walmart has everything you need. I use to drive my best boy friend crazy because I bargain shopped all my rods tackle everything and did just as good as him with his hundreds of dollars invested in magnetic free floating reels that worked with space age tech. He was funny, I drove him crazy my Walmart stuff vs his Bass pro stuff held it's own just fine.

What about Louisiana?
I notice your braid color? Any preference or reason behind it?
