#BassFishing #WinterFishing
Thank you for watching everyone! Do you have a grub tied on this time of year? Let me know below! 👇
I'd give it a go but waters kind of hard up here in Ia. 21 degrees today thanks for the tip next fall I'll remember the vid.
What size jighead would you use for 20-30 foot of water?
I have two lakes by me that I always have a grub tied on! I know you have fished Okoboji in Iowa, it is super clear, and just down the road is a small lake called silver lake, and everybody fishes grubs on both. They are definitely fish catchers! My first soft plastic I ever fished, the only one I ever fished until I was a teenager was a white power grub.
I'm fishing Ned's and jerks. May have to break my grubs, lol.
I usually have a grub tied on during winter and early spring fishing.
The grub is a killer for me all year! Especially on the river in the spring!! Smallies love them!!
This is an old technic that still works. People got away from it when swimbaits came along but the grub will out perform a swimbait everytime. Plus it catches everything and when its cold sometimes its good just to get a bite. You have the only youtube channel that i can sit and watch all day, love you man.
Awesome Video Edwin. You are the best sir.
Thanks for the tips. That's cool how the crappie even bit that big grub on the jig. Nice ones also.
My dads all time favorite bait! Thanks for sharing E!
This was an excellent video - topic, instruction, everything! Thx EE.
I didn’t. But I will now! Enjoy how you show all species you catch rather than editing them out. Keep it up! Love the channel.
Dang it Evers! I use this technique, LITERALLY every late winter into early spring/prespawn. I mean it. EVERY year, specifically those seasonal patterns. I live in a part of the country where some of our water is so GIN clear, you can see the bottom in 40'. However, just about all of it within 100 miles, is at least 10' of visibility. Southern Utah. Yep.
Anyway, slowly swimming a white, single tailed grub, on a white 1/4 oz - 1/2 oz swim jig head, is deadly. Simple rig, simple technique, that nobody threw anymore......until Evers makes a flicker picture about it! 😄😁
Thanks for all these fun videos Evers. I look forward to seeing them all the time.
That is amazing how clear your water is Cory. Also I didn’t realize there would be that much water in Utah. I’ve never fished there. Didn’t mean to step on your toes!🤦♂️lol. I wish you a Merry Christmas
@@EdwinEversfishing Believe it or not, there's actually some incredible, blue ribbon bass fishing lakes here, thanks to the local DNR. In fact, a few years back, I got Byron Velvick to come out and film an episode of Guides Eye with one of the local fishing guides, on two of those little lake-giant bass producers, named Sand Hollow, and Quail Creek. (Evers, this Sand Hollow reservoir, fishes different than any other body of water you've ever fished.....I PROMISE! Why? Because water flows IN TO Sand Hollow...but it doesn't flow out!The only place where grass keeps on growing, ad deep as 60 feet....yes, there's a reason!
The major money maker lakes/reservoirs around this part of the world, are mostly located on the Colorado River. Lake Powell (Powell Rods), Mead, Mohave, and Havasu.
I live about 2 hours West of Powell, an hour and a half North/East of Mead, 3 from Mohave, and a good 6 hour trip to Havasu.
Want to know the secret about Sand Hollow???? Or can you guess it???? HUGE BASS FACTORY AS WELL!
Great timing, a friend and I had a grub discussion about a month ago. I told him it is time to start throwing the long forgotten grub this year. Great info and video! Thanks Edwin
Very informative video, Thank you
Yes sir on a chatter bait too 💪
Edwin, love this video learning a lot. Merry Christmas!
If you're ever having one of those days where you just can't seem to shake that bad mood you're in, do yourself a favor and watch this video in 1/2 speed. If it's been a really bad day, go ahead and knock it on down to 1/4. After fifteen minutes or so of hearty LOL's, bump it on up to 1.75 and enjoy the show.
Thanks Mr. Evers, I love your channel!
My face hurts. 🤣
😂😂😂thank you!!
Awesome stuff man. Really dig all your vids!
Great job brother
Thank you!
Very close to a Ned rig except I only catch 12 inch fish on both
Awesome awesome video sir!!! You have become for me at least one of the best teachers on You Tube . You talk to me in a way that I relate too. A regular guy if you will. You don’t start talking super technical , I can relate and understand everything your saying. Sometimes guys get so technical on videos that I just don’t always get what they’re saying. Great job Mr Evers and I hope you keep this Project E series going. Can’t wait for the spawn and see what I can learn from you then!
Brian in Summerville, SC
You sounded iffy about using a Palomar knot. What knot do you usually use?
Great information! Thanks
When I started bass fish back in 1977 the only lures I could afford were mister twister grubs and the beetle spin. Today I can afford any lure but I still use a grub and beetle spin because they both catch bass especially when the water temperature is below 45°.
The grub! It's like the oldest but most effective bait out there!
Edwin you are a down to earth country boy....thanks
No I don't but I'm going to try it over here a little north east of you north of Springfield in these clear rocky lake's I'm from Texas and it took some getting used to fishing lake's with no grass. Great Video keep it up enjoy all of them.
It will work Clint!
I see how important it is electronics to found depth and structure specially on deep water... Love ur vids please don't stop making them...🙏
You are correct..l never would have thought to use a straight grub... everything now days is boot tail swim bait. I will be giving these a shot as soon as I can...Thank you Project E
Yes sir. Thank you for watching John!
@@EdwinEversfishing You are welcome, and if your don't put out another video prior to Christmas, have a Merry Christmas.
Hey Edwin! Come to western Kentucky and fish the strip pits with my buddy and I!
A Megabass vision 110 is the #1 lure I have tied on during winter. My buddy Doug has some form or Ned rig on.
I had to laugh when I saw this. You gave away our secret! I'm quite a bit older than you, Edwin. I've caught more bass on a curly tailed grub over the years than any other single bait. It just works!
I’m sorry Rob.
Thank you brother for your knowledge!
Nice to see you getting a chance to relax, catch and admire your fish instead of being so rushed to catch another like in the MLF. To me there is some enjoyment lost by the absolutely fierce competition and what it forces you pros to do to succeed!
There is definitely a huge difference between the two!
Hey Edwin I love all your videos, always bringing some great tips! What is the size of the grub in this video?
I have to try this again lol. I fish ultra clear water in California and I havent thrown a grub in 25 years I just forgot about them lol.
You are absolutely right, I have a bunch of bags of grubs that I used to catch fish on that I haven't gotten out in a long time! I think everyone gets caught up on these "new" baits and sometimes forget the old reliable. Thanks for the reminder!
Don't think we have a grub in the boat. Will have to try them out! I'm sure Greg has stories about them tho. Lol Nice clear water. Hard to find pretty water like that in NE Oklahoma. Next time you catch crappie like that keep them and let us know!
You better tie one on!
Edwin, a grub was tied to my line for several years when I was in California in the late seventies through the early eighties. We would fish Newport beach harbor and fish around all the docks and catch bass every time we went. You have brought back so many memories. Going to get box of grubs out and start some new memories. Thanks Edwin for another awesome video. 🎣🐟
Sandbass, Spotties, Calicos, Halibut, all chewed the chartreuse grubs.
@@joelvines9070 you are right Joel. I remember having pretty good luck with a black with chartreuse tail also.
Great Video EE. Question about the rigging. You said tail down. Tail point or tail curve?
Point and curve both would be down opposite of the hook point!!
@@EdwinEversfishing THANKYOU. Really enjoy your content. Merry Christmas to you and your family
At 16:30. "I get a cast on the very next bite" I almost peed myself laughing 🤣🤣🤣 I love double E!!!
Yeah I was all flustered!
Just curious why the braid if you are wanting to fish it deep? Was your leader really long or something? Thanks for the great videos!!
I like the braid because I can cast a bait a lot further and it has less stretch, better feel.
A grub was our swimbait of the 70-80s. Caught lots of bass on a 4'' smoke/black flake grub. FLC
Hey EE, is there going to be a new season of the bass pros coming on soon? Thought it should be on this week. Thanks!
My daughter catches them on grubs, and I have yet to leave my comfort baits to try them again. Might have to slap one on and see what happens. Been years since I threw grubs.
Do you prefer a carbonlite reel or a pro qualifier???????
I caught a personal best improvising last summer and experimenting with this exact lure. Awesome man awesome. Found a new place on google earth for hartwell since the water is low, caught 2 limits Saturday. Felt like u at redcrest for a while there
That’s great to hear! Keep it up
funny' ''people ask why i have so many poles on my kayak i say "i need rods with different line test for different baits" just got back into grubs and tubes the forgotten art
Good luck Chris. Your pecans are on the way.
Awesome awesome video!! It’s one thing to give tips, it’s another to show it in application.
Thank you.
Still one of my favorite baits on light line. I knew what you had in your hand even before you revealed it. Great video as always Edwin!
Our water is hard now in Michigan, but when it was soft the grub was always on one of my rods. We don't have shad in my lake so bluegill colors or perch worked best. Thanks for the reel speed lesson. That was a good point. Happy Holidays
Thanks for watching and You too!
I have kinda forgotten the old grub, I fish Tablerock a bunch and Im going to get some “old grubs” out and give them a try! Thanks so much for the reminder.
Absolutely John good luck out there let me know how it goes! 🎣
Man, that sure looked like a good day for winter fishing, congrats, Edwin! I laughed...how many times have I said...yeah, that's a nice crappie, but I dont want to keep just one... only to catch a couple more, haha! Those 3 would have been worth cleaning if you'd known you were catch all of 'em.
The grub on a round ball is got to be one of my oldest set ups. It's good to be reminded of it's effectiveness and to see how you fish it, thank you.
I love grubbing. What’s the reason no one uses old school baits on tour? Seems to be all the same new age baits being used, or are they being used behind the scenes? Love your vids, keep them coming. Spybait tips besides braid loops?
Did that line break at the union knot? I've had that problem lately. Not sure why.
I think it broke because it was wrapped around my tip when I went to cast. LOL
@@EdwinEversfishing that'll do it. Lol
Man great video I really learned a lot but what finesse presentation would you use when the water is stained, and what would you use when the water is chocolate milk. Where I'm at in southwest Ohio we don't really have to many clear lakes.
Nice video. I use that same rod and reel combo for my jerk bait set up. Are you tying your Fluorocarbon leader to the braid with a Barrel swivel or are you tying an fg knot to combine the lines?
I do not use a barrel swivel I am tying a Albright knot.
Preciate all the info. How about a bettle spin with a z craw
I tried one a couple of weeks ago, will definitely keep throwing now.
Awesome good luck!!
Thought I would have a cup of coffee and watch this video... big mistake seeing that nice fish to start the video fired me up instantly 😂 no more coffee and I’ve got some cleaning up to do. Great video!
😂 glad I could help to BOOST your day! 🚀
braid to fluorocarbon, how long leader
Clarity of 2 plus feet, no less than 4 ft leader. The clearer the water the longer the leader. I prefer mono for a leader rather than flouro, better shock absorption, especially when using a short leader.
I use a 6-8 foot leader. Basically as long as possible without reeling the knot into the reel.
Grubs have been a secret weapon for me for a long time! I’ve always got one tied on. It’s a lot of fun to use one on an ultralight rod
I will be trying them once I'm out there.
Good luck!!
What are your thoughts about using black or junebug in stained water?
Chartreuse or orange is better.
It just depends on how stained it is. I like a pearl white if it’s between 1 foot to 2 foot visibility.
Tablerock is a lot of fun to fish! I've caught some really aggressive spotted bass there.
if there's 5 to 7 foot of visibility wouldnt that mean the bottom still isnt clear water ?
?? I don’t understand
@@EdwinEversfishing if there is say 5 foot visibility. does that mean past the 5 foot all the way to the bottom the water is murkey or not clear ?
Those are the conditions when I like a jigging spoon. I can get it down fast and use heavier line and hooks. I catch some big flathead cats on spoons during winter. 20 lb line and 4x saltwater trebles. Those big cats eat those smaller bass like popcorn.
Edwin, come out to western KY and fish with us on the strip pits!!!
Thanks man! I forgot gonna have to dig out my 20 yr old kalins. always caught them on grubs don't know why I stopped throwing it.
Good luck!
Thanks Edwin. Reminds me of fishing with Grandpa in the 80's. What type of ball heads are those?
Berkley shakes heads
Great video E ! Just awesome information ! Could you drop shot the area you were fishing ?
You probably could I just don’t have as much success doing that in the winter as I do the rest of the year
Its a lost art grew up watching jerry mckinnis fishing a grub on tv and a bait ive caught so many on.
Is it a grub or little george?
Watch it!
I did lol I commented before I watched it
Good Video, as usual.
Good video. I like those Grubs on hack attack swim jigs.
I need to make my way down to Tablerock and give this a try! Can’t wait to follow you on grand next year for the redcrest!
Awesome good luck out there on TableRock!
When you are speaking of 6lb flouro your speaking of the leader only? You may have said but using what type of backer?
Yes leader only.
I will be purchasing some Berkeley grubs today. Thanks!
Nice!! Here’s the link if you need it bit.ly/34f8fjK
it's an old one that works but never used will have to put back in the box for next year
What size was the power grub? Was it pro blue red pearl?
It was 5” and yes pro blue red pearl
Getting a cast on the very next bite.......I am OCD too. Drag setup must be fixed after each fish!#RippinLipsInc
Can this work for bank fishing too?
Yes! I used to fish Mr. Twister grubs all the time in the 80s from the bank. Really work well. Can even fish em on a Ned head and let it sit and catch them!
Yes it can!!
I would have a grub tied on for this time of year, but we have 8 inches of ice on most of our lakes😂. Great video! I may try it in the spring when the water is still cold.
It will work once the ice is off.!!
i haven’t thrown a grub in forever 😂 i’ll give it a try next time i go out ! it’s gotten really cold here in north carolina 🤙🏼keep up the great videos dude !
Good luck let me know how it works for you.
Do you prefer a carbonlite reel or a pro qualifier
You just can’t leave the Basics of fishing...
in a cast on my wrist for 2 months , no fishing till spring for me
Hope you recover quickly and completely.
That sucks, and almost can relate. I wish you a speedy recovery!
I was down 3 weeks after my rotator cuff surgery, learned to cast left handed pretty quick with spinning outfit, medium light Ned rigging.
Best of luck and get em in prespawn!
@@dougp8345 thanks
Edwin what happened to your xcalibur ee4 jerkbaits? they work amazing
Idk 🤷🏻♂️
Helluva salesman👍! Lol

@@EdwinEversfishing what do you recommend, a pro qualifier reel or a carbonlite reel
