he was my old technology teacher and the whole class he would sing for us!! I am so glad that he has taken up the music career!!
No way!! That’s so badass. He’s beyond talented 🙌🏻
That's dope. I'm glad he did it, too!
Really! That is so cool!
That's awesome!!!!
Rarely, rarely, if ever do I comment on videos. I must say however, that this dude is seriously talented and deserves even more than 500,000 hits. In an age of such shitty music, its such a breath of fresh air to hear something this awesome. Mr. Mcphearson, if you read this, come to Chicago and play a show. You rule.
And now, waaaaay later, 10 - 11 years on in the spring/summer of 2022 computing science tech teacher JD McPherson is playing lead guitar on a tour with Alison Krauss and Robert Plant. Methinks the once and sometimes comp.sci. teacher has paid his dues and now gets to play and walk with two bona-fide legends of their genres in music. This guy was time-warped and born fifty years later than his real birth date; his feel for rock-a-billy and original rock and roll is that good.👍 My hat's off to the guitar player.
@@lloydzilinski4401 And born especially for us!!!
Yup, going to see them tonight!
They used to play all the time in Chicago at Martyrs while this album was being recorded.
Just heard two of your songs of SOCKS album on FRESH AIR. Loved so much I had to look you up. Good stuff
This guy is great! It's straight-up 1950's rock n' roll. It's full-blast retro and true to the original era that inspired it, but also feels totally genuine and original. It never wanders into being a gimmick or imitation. I'm an instant fan, I think.
BTW, that drummer is fantastic too -- always providing exactly what the song calls for at that moment, and always classic 50's style. Very clean, very tasteful.
I have literally searched for this song for years! Today I decided to scroll through 1000s of liked videos that I've collected throughout the years! And today I found it! I am so happy to hear this song again!
"I got some good talk, but not enough game."
Word.
Many new artists are using that vintage recording technique and compositional style with great results. However, this song is the one that truly made me think it was an actual recording from the 1950's. Nailed it 100%. I'm blown away and am so happy. This rock&roll is what inspires me the most.
Almost brings tears to my eyes knowing that folks like JP are out there still reminding people that basic rock'n'roll/rhythm'n'blues can still have vitality when done right. Rock on, man!
Im a huge fan of metal, but I also love to hear killer soulful music like this. Im glad people still make music like this. Rock On JD.
Regarding the debate on whether Mr. McPherson "stole" this sound, I can say that I once met and talked with him (he was my computer lab teacher in 8th grade) about some old records I found. He seemed to be disgusted by one Pat Boone record, explaining to me that he just performed all the "black" songs and sold them to a white audience. So, this guy is aware of the issue. The thing is, he's not covering black music. He wrote his own song, plain and simple, in the style of black 1950's rock 'n roll. It was an original creative act, inspired by a historical stye. If you can't understand the difference between theft and inspiration, you are missing the whole point of this man's music.
Good on ya.These guys have that 50s sound JD is a great artist.Good music is good music colour is not a issue. If a song makes you feel good then to me thats priceless.
Cameron Alred Cool teacher!
Cameron Alred Every artist "steals". Its part of being an artist. This guy is great. Heard him yesterday and I love the throwback sound he has going on. This is the first "new music" I have been able to listen to in years.
Cameron Alred McPherson was very inspired by the likes of Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, and even Bill Haley and the Comets....his assertation regarding Pat Boone was spot on....at that time, Rock and Roll by Black artists was all the rage across America and conservative white parents feared their kids were becoming "corrupted"....Boone had a "safe" "wholesome sound" that endeared to parents but turned off the kids...thus ripoffs of Domino's "Aint that a Shame" were to both sell records and appease those parents....an effort if you will to "white bread" rock and roll....needless to say, it didn't work...the kids would NOT be compromised.....I like this song and kudos to JD for his music in honor of the Rock and Roll legends....regardless of race.
Cameron Alred So you went to Holland Hall
I love this song. That Bethlehem Steel Football Club shirt is very cool.
My grandfather worked for Bethlehem Steel shipyard as a welder in the early 1940s. When he received his draft notice to serve in World War II, he came to work to clean out his locker. His boss happened to see him and told him to put his stuff back in the locker and to get back to work. Apparently welders working on Navy ships were essential for the war effort and his boss got him excused from the draft.
Sorry for the boring family history non sequitur.
Chicago - I only heard it once and LOVED it immediately. At first I thought it was something they dug up from 1958 (as they do that occasionally). I was thrilled to hear someone modern making such great music.
I heard this on NPR on the drive home....MINE! Walked in the door and bought it on itunes!! LOVE LOVE LOVE ME SOME JD McP!!!!
THE RIGHT INSTRUMENTS ~ THE RIGHT PLAYERS ~ THE RIGHT RECORDING STUFF ~ THE RIGHT SONG !!! I DON'T SAY THIS OFTEN (BECAUSE THE ART IS ALMOST GONE) THIS IS REALLY GOOD STUFF !!! !!! !!!
Damn, this song just makes one want to jump and dance. Great tune.
I heard this on the radio in England today and thought it was an old Little Richard number I had not heard before, fantastic track!!!
Just spend 4 hours looking for this song... Found in history search on YT from 4 years ago. Worth it
You gotta be kidding me!!! I hear this song everyday at work and I swore up and down it was something from the 50s! I love this!!
VONS or SAFEWAY?
I hear ya! When I first heard it on the radio just over 2 years ago, I thought it was Larry Williams! (The guy who sang Bony Moronie)
And I seriously thought it was sang by an African American
Aafes? Lol i hear it all the time too
And i thought he was black too.
This song makes me wanna get up and dance.Great 50s sound.
How can you not like this guy? Have you heard "Socks", his Christmas album? Freshest Christmas album in decades.
I got family in Tennessee and they have some old hay fields. I love to wander off in the dark and blast music, singin my lungs off. JD's work is excellent for that.
Nothing like waking up and hearing this gem on the radio
When I first heard this song I thought it was an original from the 50 ' s, it blew my mind when I realised that it was a modern rockabilly song, jd and his band have a great balance between r'n'r, blues and tockabilly. In my opinion this sound echo ' s the whole era of the 1950's with authenticity, including style, feel, delivery and a natural raw talent that sadly seems to be in short supply today.
+Stephen Stone Very well said!
Damn. I thought for sure this was some long lost black singer from the 50s. This song really cooks - great rockabilly style slap bass. really boss Chuck Berry style solo. There is no cosmic justice and if you need further proof, it's the fact that cats like this are toiling in obscurity, while Taylor Swift, Lada Gaga, Meghan Trainor, and their ilk are raking in millions. What a dreadful situation.
I heard it on the radio in Berlin today, they gave an interview to the station. The song made my Day!
Those guys did the 50's RnR tune, in 2010, and it sounds awesome. Listening to this on the radio, you really couldn't tell if this song was trully made in 1950's or in 2000's
It's all recorded on equipment from the 50's
Has that little Richard vibe. I love it
That vintage sound. All of us musicians are influenced by someone and that friends is a good thing😊
This guy has the BEST VOICE EVER... Well, the GROUP HAS THE BEST SOUND I'VE HEARD IN YEARS AND I'M NOT FROM THAT PERIOD, BUT I LOVE IT.
First heard this on the radio driving back home in a snow storm. Couldn't help but turn it way up and slide around. Awesome tune.
When I first heard this on my local NPR station, I thought "Great track from the 50's, early 60's, African-American, sweet slick sounds from a great era of music". Well, I am in admiration, these guys nail it. 5 stars!!
I cannot explain how much I love their sound! Now we can tell: this is music!
These guys seriously are one of the best modern rockabilly acts I have heard in years. Congrats on the commercial break thru and keep up the great work!!! Awesome cd too every song is killa...
Hot damn! Been looking for some new-issue rockabilly like this for a long time. This is the real thing.
Great track.Great sound.Dont matter if you are Black White Yellow or Pink. Its still a great track. Thanks uploader for this share
I can't go a day without music in my life and I think your song is one of the best I've ever heard. Thanks.
I have to thank radio free Texas for turning me on to this great song.
Thanks guys for bringing this music back and you do it SO well. I heard this on Australian ABC radio and thought it was a 1950's song I had never heard. Fantastic job !!
XRT is 93.1 in Chicago - it's what my dad listened to every morning when he was driving me to school, and it's why i have good taste in music
Hey, my Dad did too, had it playing in his garage....Oh the Good Ol days....😊
This is truly amazing, Im 15 and was in awe. So seeing this was a relief and Im to see this. If I were a musician, HISTYLE Records is the place I would go, keeping it simple, and open to infinite creativity. LOVE THIS!!!
Great stuff fellas.....freacking love it. That Bethlehem Steel shirt tho!!!! My dad worked in the Los Angeles plant for 20 years.....badass!
The most authentic vintage sound, superb...
Jimmy Sutton rocking the Bethlehem Steel FC Tee! So Awesome.
Why would anyone dislike this? This is just amazing music.
This just randomly played on my Pandora. I assumed it was really old (like early 60s) and I assumed the singer was black. This guy seems super talented. Gonna check out more
Damn... I remembered when this didn't even have that much views!
Well deserved recognition. Bringing back that good ol' fifties kicks
I know. People have to realise just because a period in time has passed, it doesn't mean that style of music should be extinct!
Great voice. So much soul. Hope he gets the recognition he deserves.
modern rockabilly at its best, very 50 ' s style, fantastic
Also heard this on NPR. Just nails it! Timeless, exciting, alive, ROCKS it. I'm looking for more JD. Hope he plays nearby soon.
I could listen to this forever and never get tired of it.
Gotta keep coming back to this track.Dig it the most.
Holy mackerel, this is the real deal. Really refreshing to hear some genuine talent.
Hell ya....i cant believe it!
aw, just got home from the concert at Thalia Hall in Chicago. love you, JD and all!! you each have awesome skills! ❤️
Got my first taste of J.D’s Music the other night when I went to see Alison Krauss & Robert Plant’s Concert… I Love This Bands Music. J.D. you sir Rocked my World that Night in Portsmouth Va.❤❤❤❤
Just heard this for the 1st time! Amazing! Just ordered the CD! Gonna keep playing it tonight!
ACTUAL MUSIC !!, love this band !!.
I love this, no matter what kind of mood you are in it makes you wanna dance.
This should be a # 1 hit.
Masterfully executed! Bravo 👏 👏 👏
This tune kicks ass..
This is stupendous. Great little willie John meets Jackie Wilson vocals and a genuine thoughtfully authentic rock'n'roll production. Don't know these guys, but it's a good time for a new Blasters type group to break out. Dig that beat!
This man has the right feeling for Rock and Roll!👍👍👍
Saw him last night with his band. opening act for Robert Plant and Allison Krauss. they blew the house down!!!
I just adore this group they are mega brilliant and I too could listen to this track over and over again and quite often do! :)
i love their style so and their style of music. So classic and so good, Please dont change it xD
Have I said yet that this stuff puts a smile on my face as big as Texas ... and I been a guitar player for 53 years!
this would have been no.1 in the charts for at least a month in the 50s.. its a fantastic song
Absolutely brilliant!
Seriously one of the best bands I've ever come across.... Real music not like the other bullshit music produced today!!! Keep the tracks coming boys!!!
Put this music in every single evenings with friends and it always finished with everyone dancing! A seriously amazing good old sound!
I would not have known of this musical blessings if not for 92.5 the river. THANK YOU!!
I hear it every day at work. It's a great song
Dude sounds good. Very authentic job for the genre.
Im brasilian and find that song amazing ❤what talented musicians❤
I just simply fallen in love. Cracking voice!
Maron brought me here..This is sick ass music man! Love it!!!
I cant believe this guy used to be my computer teacher
Sweet! What was he like?
Calvin Maynard He was pretty chill! I remember his class was fun, we would make stupid stories(this was 4th grade) but we didn't learn much. Eventually I think an admin got pissy and his class became more dull and lecturey. Oh, and he always had a guitar and a lot of cords and stuff for amps.
***** that's awesome. I just discovered him a couple of weeks ago, and I can't get enough of his music. Wouldn't it be great if he went on tour opening for a larger act like Brian Setzer or Imelda May? I think that would be the perfect next step for him.
Calvin Maynard thatd be cool but he is still touring a little, to my knowledge. I dont know what happend but when his album came out in 2012 he got a lot of national recognition like NPR and maybe the tonight show(one of those shows). When he first started to tour I wasnt that involved but I wish I had been! at his first concert in town one our schools teachers got wasted with her BF or something and was asked to leave.
Calvin Maynard oh and he has something coming out in 2015!
The 1st J.D. Mc P song I heard,was Dimes into nickles on Outlaw Country(satellite).Before I knew it,stompin the floorboard,slappin the steerin wheel.Had to track this Artist down.God given,bluesy,raspy,voice,singin with feeling.Backed up with a true tradition sound.Rock on,Brother !
UNREAL !!! Has that 50s R & B Sound.....WOW !!!
Continue comme ca mon petit billie boy!!!OLD SCHOOL!!!!
Been stuck in my head alllll week. This is not a bad thing.
Heard it on NPR! Love it!
Music me and my kids can rock to.... Keep rocking !!!
Loooooooooooooove this song !
Mee tooo
Dito 😉👍
omg! im in love with this song.. the music aww just perfect for me right now =D
I bought this guy's CD based on Amazon's You Might Like section. I was not disappointed -- it's like Little Richard's vocals, Johnny Burnette's music, and Johnny Cash's lyrics. This guy is the bomb!
I was driving down the Oregon Coast from Nehalem in a crappy rented Taurus wagon when I first heard Wolf Teeth on a radio station out of Astoria. I flipped! I'm a product of the 50's and this sound took me back to Buddy Knox. I'll catch his show in Petaluma next month.
love their authentic style, no Confederate flags, V8 emblems & other rock-a-billy cliches.
Its not rockabily, its rhythm and blues.
It is mostly Rock and Roll/Rockabilly except that they added saxophone.
Joe Pucci To me this is full blooded rockabilly. No one said there needs to be a flag or a patch to play music These guys are just smart and know the roots.
Confederate flags and rockabilly, there is no correlation 🤦🏻♀️
@@jetblackthunder1 Sorry to state fact this song is mostly rockabilly with a hint of blues
❤️🎶🎙
So, even though I know this is a throw back to former times, I find this so refreshing to hear these days! Energy, joy, swing. I love it! My little girl loves dancing to it too! ;)
Best current Rockabilly jiver! Best new one in a decade! Love it :0)
Who noticed the Bethlehem Steel shirt?
I FRICKIN love this song.
Bethlehem Steel FC - Soccer shirt. As the son of a steelworker - still cool.
This record is well beyond bitchen!
(And I want that Bethlehem Steel t-shirt!)
Thank you BBC Radio 2 for introducing me to this guy's music! Stonking!
Simply bloody brilliant. Downunder South Australia
This is what it's all about. thank you!
I am still crazy 'bout a North Side gal....
The only song I can repeat over and over and not get bored of
WOW THIS IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!! LOVE IT!!
OMGGGGGGG!!!! I'm from a little neighborhood in Cincinnati, OH called Northside - Love Love Love this!!!!!!!!!
Nice song. I'm gonna have to check out some of their other music. Thanks for sharing Red
Awesome group
who are the 94 D-Bags that gave this a thumbs down??
Probably 94 millenial D-bags that think lady gaga and justin bieber are good musicians because that's what they were told. Who knows for sure?
Love this song!! Keep rockabilly going!!! Classic piece of modern rockabilly
funk, soul, jazz, groove, swing it will never die!! nothing beats it, fact
