I find our interest to be similar but your skill level much higher, but in my family I was known as the Tool Man so thats not bad. I own and work on Subaru 360's, when I was younger we a 1967 SeaFlite 17ft water ski- fishing boat with a 120 hp 4cyl Chevy engine with a Mercruser inboard/outboard. Worked on that a bit as a teen and older. We seemed to need to change our water pumps a bit more often, lake water only use. Great video Mark. Thanks Mark
You said you didn't see how you could make a bigger mess. Take it from me, a lifelong mess maker, that you were barely started. For bonus points add in a small child "helper" - the paint companies use them to get the yield figures on the paint cans, as that can never be reached by an adult but a child can really spread it around! If you do get a child to help make sure the materials are safe for them which means you can't do it in the state of California because everything causes cancer there.
You should never shift the gears without the engine running. The gears mesh when it’s running. Then started it without any gear oil, and then added gear oil fully trimmed out? FAIL

You can use bungee cords to help take some weight off and a long 2x4 to lift with leverage from ground.
