- INSTANT POT BAKED POTATOES -
Ingredients:
1 cup cold water
4-10 medium-sized potatoes, scrubbed (I used russet)
Directions:
1. Pour the cold water into the bottom of the Instant Pot and place the trivet on top of the water.
2. Prick each potato 5-6 times and then place them into the Instant Pot.
3. Close the lid and set the valve to sealing.
4. Cook the potatoes on high pressure for 12 minutes*.
5. After the 12 minutes is up, let the pressure naturally release for 8-10 minutes.
6. Release the rest of the pressure manually.
7. Open up your Instant Pot and the taters should be perfectly done. Enjoy!
*the cooking time may vary depending on the size of your potatoes
*for small potatoes, cook for 10 minutes
*for extra large potatoes, cook for 18-20 minutes
NOTE: If you like your baked potatoes extra crispy on the outside:
Preheat your oven to 400F. Once the potatoes are done in the Instant Pot, rub them with a little bit of olive oil and sprinkle them with salt and bake them for 10 minutes. Boom. Crispy-ass baked potatoes!

Took way to long for me to find a simple, straightforward “how to cook a potato in the instant pot” video with no nonsense! Thank you!
Thumbs up!!!! Tks
Not sure what Echothreads was thinking but it was well made video
My mum and my wife were the chefs in my world. I could cook on the grill or over a campfire but that was it. Both my mum and my wife passed away in 2014. Now it's just me and my 12 year old son. We're getting tired of pizza and hot dogs. I was given an instant 6 months ago and didn't know what to do with it. Glad I found your channel. Tonight I'm going to cook potatoes in that thing.
I am so sorry for your loss! Stay strong. You can do it! 💞
The instant pot is great for dudes too. My favourite is Cajun black beans with pork, no soak method. Keep going big man.
I am so sorry to read this. Instant Pot is a big help to cook. I hope you will meet Jesus and find peace in your heart. I was an orphan and now I am at peace.
« These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. » John 16:33
Amen.
Look at the six sisters channel also. This video is no nonsense easy and simple. Have fun 🤩
Good job dude! Also look at the Six Sisters videos. Learned lots from them.
Such a well-done video. Precise, detailed, just perfect! Thank you!
Thank you for this how to video for my instant pot. I got it as a gift about 2 years ago. Its still in the box. I keep reading and looking at the directions that came with it and I was always scared I would do it wrong and it would blow up... LOL ... but this is the way I learn best. Watching you... most youtube videos don't really show you how to do it step by step, and thats what I need to learn how to use it. Thanks so much. I may try this now. I do make potatoes quite often. Now it won't take so long. Thank you again. I would love if you would do some more how to videos... for other foods you use it for and how to. I can learn to do it this way. Thank you again for taking the time to teach us how. This video is perfect for me. :) :)
Hi. I am a bachelor. I made roast beef for Christmas dinner. I followed this recipe for the potatoes. Crisped them up as per the instructions. My guests were impressed. Thank you. Only one thing. There are no leftovers. You rock.
Glad you enjoyed 'em!
@@KristenPound 👍
That's a "feel good" follow up....Happy New Year RJ...
As a stay-at-home dad now cooking dinner for my family I enjoyed your video
Yay! I love that!
Bravo dad! All mama's are behind you! What a way to show love!
Same I’m now a work from home dad and her videos are a life saver lol I seem like dad of the day everyday now lmao
Thanks Kristen. I'm new to instant pot and this was wonderfully helpful.
Very helpful video. Thanks for providing the details!
I needed a quick video for cooking potatoes for home fries. This was it. The potato’s where perfectly cooked!
Thank you. I new to using a instant pot but I thought it would take a lot less time. Not that I need it to take last time I was just thinking it would take less time. Also want to mention I like your video especially because you get right to the point and you don't talk about all the unnecessary things that don't pertain to making potatoes in an instant pot.
Yeah it does take a bit more time than I thought it was going to as well, but everything comes out so perfectly every time that it's worth it to me. And yay! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. :)
Love this pot! It is sturdy. Gets to temperature quickly , and has some greet recipes.
Thank you! Baking these right now and they're almost done. 🥔👍
I love these quick how-to’s. Tyvm!
Thanks for doing this video I love baked potatoes and if I'm not eating cauliflower I eat these. Great alternative to fries I make homemade fries in air fryer
You're so welcome! Glad you liked the vid! 😊
This was so easy to follow along! Thank you 😄
Perfect video.....exactly what I was looking for!! Thx!
Thank you so much for your very informative and quick guide on baking my potato. I am just now realizing how little and fast my 4 year old instapot cooks, literally everything.
Great video, super simple and helpful
Awesome easy to follow instructions…. potatoes came Amazing! Thank you.
Thanks I filled the whole pot to top with red potatoes for potato salad and they came out wonderful. 20 min high.✌🏼
Great video very informative and thanks for sharing!
Solid vid. Right to the point. Well done and Thank you.
Your'e so welcome! :)
Thank u for this video. I just started using the instapot. I needed help figuring out how to cook in it. Thank u
You're so welcome!
Thank you great video instructions!
Thanks! Would love to hear about the burrito bowls you used them for!!
Okay! I'll definitely do a video for that soon! :)
Agreed. More recipes please. Your video style is great.
Thank you so much. I’ve had an instant pot for a year now but intimidated to use it... so glad I found your channel. For potatoes, rice, beans and more. I appreciate the step by step!!
I am a sub, your videos are so very simple and well explained, thankyou!😊
Trying this out tonight. Thanks!
Hope it went well! :)
Thank you. Will try this
You're so welcome! :)
Thank you for sharing ...I love your vids
Aww thank you! That really means a lot! ❤️
Love the bonus crispy skin info. Thanks
You're so welcome! :)
Or if you have an air fryer, even faster way to do this. But agree; great suggestion!
I have some cooking right now and that will be the next step!
Made my sweet potatoes 🍠 for Thanksgiving! Saved me so much time! Thank You 😊
Yay! You're so welcome! Enjoy those taters! ❤️
@@KristenPound I was going to ask about sweet potatoes is it the same
@@simonesobel7882 I've never tried them but I need to!
Wow! So easy. I have an instant pot but have yet to use it for baked potatoes. Been doing it the old fashioned way. 🤦♀️ Thanks for this!
Yay! ❤️
I wish I'd saw this Sunday,I "baked" potatoes in the microwave. I was thinking I bet I could do them in my pressure cooker but had no clue on directions
Thank you for this!
My basic food is potatoes, already have the instant pot- ready to try
Nice! :)
Thank you so much, bet they are good
Hey Kristen....THANKS...I have 4 smallish potatoes..two redish and two golden but I know if I do less minutes
they'll come out...and sinceI have a Ninja Air Fryer I am just playing with..I'll cut the potatoes into bite size
pieces of something uniform & get the crispy going....YUM....! Thank you soo much...who knew it'd be so
easy :)
Awesome! You're so welcome! :)
@@KristenPound Well...what I see is 4 sweet potatoes and two small yellow...I'll do one or the other later tonight...:)
yup I needed this since I decided last minute I wanted to have some baked potatoes 😋
Perfect!! 😊
Exactly why I'm here now! Wanting baked potatoes without the extra time. Plus, I doubt want to heat up the kitchen.
Excellent 👍🏼
Looking good!! I bet chili or lentils stew would be good on top!! Thanks!! 👍👍👍
What Up!!
Great video. Thank you!
Oh heyyy! You're so welcome! ❤️
Kristen your food 🥘 looks delicious 😋 please more videos please gracias 👍🏼🤘
Need help? Has anyone used the instant pot outdoor. I want to get a power inverter but which one to get modified sine wave or pure sine wave. I'm not getting a straight answer from the instant pot company. I dont want to spend more than i need to any help would be appreciated
I wonder can you put frozen little ears of corn on the cob at the same time or is that too much cool time for corn ?
Thank you for this video. I never knew how easy it was to cook baking (russet) potatoes in an instant pot. Mine is a snaller model though. Should that settings or amount of water be the same?
It should be the same. But I can't say for sure since I've never tried it myself. And you're welcome! :)
Planning on baking some peeled potatoes then use the air frier mode to crisp them up. Will season some olive oil and brush over them before the air frier step.
Please make a video with burrito bowls sounds good
Okay! I totally will make a burrito bowl video soon! ❤️
Thanks!
Thank you!
Perfect medium-sized russett potatoes with your "recipe". Served with good, real butter, Humboldt sour cream which is the best, shredded 3 cheese, scallions, S&P, and TJ's Hot & Sweet Jalapenos- delicious! Unfortunately, I tested my blood sugar at one hour after and it was higher than I'd like. Next time will either make them for my family and I'll eat cauliflower with toppings instead or I might try just a half of a potato.
Green eyes thanks for that observation , I found it helpful. Skipping a pot today just gonna feed my family those.
Thank You sharing the video
You're so welcome. 🙂
Thank you thank you! Thank you right to the point. So tired of googling this and getting someone's lifetime story before they give you even a hint of what to do 🎉😅
Perfect time for perfect boiled/'baked" potatoes. Thank you.
You’re welcome!
What is a burrito bowl ? Great video 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
THANK YOU!
What’s the advantage to use the naturally release pressure vs do it when it ends?
Thank you Kristen.
❤️❤️
Thanks for showing this. I’m so afraid of my instant pot.
Have you ever made a burrito bowl
video? I’d love to see it!
Don't worry about it we all probably get that way but as you cook with it you will be comfortable
I'll totally make a burrito bowl video soon! :)
me too. still afraid of it lol.
I’m afraid too 😩
I was afraid at first but now love it! Just remember to let it depressurize naturally and no worries!
💕 Nice, thanks ! 💗👋🏼
You're so welcome! :)
Good video👍😊
Does the size of your pot make a difference regarding how much water you put in at the beginning? (I have an 8-quart pot.)
Thank you
So if I get it right:12 minutes for cooking under pressure plus 10 minutes for continuation of cooking. 22 minutes altogether? I am making them right now, but my instant pot doesnt have manual, so I put it on vegetable which is 8 minutes and then I will combine.
Agree with being your true self coachings comment! Parcook those mothas about 3 to 5 minutes and slice and then bake (I use my toaster oven) at 425 for 20 minutes. Boooomb oil free wedges. So creamy!!
Yessss! SO smart! I'm definitely gonna try that ASAP.
I just did this last night but since I want to use them for fries, I only did 3 min on manual so they are totally cooked but more firm.
Oooooo! I definitely wanna try this ASAP! So smart.
Thanks I love making homemade fries
hmmm...that's what I want to do & am going to put in the Air Fryer to make them crispy...
You're vegan too 😁 Yesss!
Is the timing the same for the 3qt IP?
If you put them in the oven after to crisp them up, do you just put them right on the rack or wrap them in foil first or what?
If you want to crisp your potatoes then definitely no foil! Wrapping potatoes in foil prevents them from getting crispy.
hell yea this is sick
If I only want to do two large potatoes what time would you use?
I would probably do 10-12 minutes depending on how large they are. :)
what is the 'Less, Normal, More' on the pressure cooker? does it matter? Mine doesn't have a manual button.
Hmmm I’m not sure. Different models of the IP have different buttons for some reason. A quick google search might help. But it sounds like normal might be the right one?
I did this exactly, with the same instant pot, twice with 4 potatoes each, and each time all that happened was the skinned steamed off, and the potatoes were totally uncooked. I cannot figure it out. And I'm a pretty good cook! :)
That's so strange! Damn. I wish I knew what was going on so I could help you. 🤔
I tried this method but in a pressure cooker for 13 minutes at high pressure and they were hard inside also. I really don't get what I'm doing wrong.
Not baked potatoes unless they have crispy skins. I have the newer instant pot that has the air fryer lid. After pressure cooking them how long would you recommend i air fry for crispy skins
My IP didn’t come with a metal trivet. Do you think one of those metal vegetable steamers would work?
Yeah that should totally work! :)
Good how-to video, but I'm wondering what happens if you use less than 4 potatoes, and if you don't poke holes in them. Does it not cook them as well when you use less, and does it affect how well they cook if you don't poke holes in them? I cook for myself so not interested in 4 potatoes...
hi just wondering that you can peel the potatoes first
When I use the trivet with my Instant Pot it takes forever for the timer to start and steam pour out of the pot even though it's on the sealing position. The water is all gone when the potatoes are done. It seems like something is wrong. Any tips?
Hmmm. That does seem like something is wrong. I'm not sure what could be going on there. Wish I could help!
Check the seal is working?
water gone...don't think that is right....hope this got settled & you have working seal...!
the seal needs to be put in perfectly or it comes out around the seal if it's coming out of the vent then you need to send it back and get a knew one
Is it the same if i don't use the metal thing?
Just a little tidbit, the process will go a lot quicker if you preheat your cooker. Just add a little water and, hit pressure while your preparing your food. It literally gets up to pressure quicker when you preheat.
Ooo. Good to know! Thanks. :)
‘Keep Warm’ means the contents of the instant pot is still cooking as the instant pot is still providing heat. A true natural pressure release can be done on ‘OFF’, by pressing cancel.
Good to know!
I don't have manual button on mine which one should I put
Just make sure it's on high pressure and you should be good to go.
I don’t have manual on my pressure can’t I just add the temp
Hmm yeah I'm not 100% sure on how the IPs without the manual button work. But as long as it's on high pressure then it seems like just adding the time would work. Good luck!
Does it work with onions as well?
I tried it with 3 medium potatoes for 12 minutes-12 minute natural release. Very crunchy potatoes. So hard I couldn't mash them. By the way, observe the silver lock pin and make sure it is down before trying to open the lid.
Wow. That actually blows my mind. I wonder why it works so differently depending on the person. Very interesting!
Same 12 didn’t work with 2 med potatoes same way weird doing 20 for now on like a diff vid I saw
What’s a burrito bowl sounds interesting
Is there a reason why you have to wait 10 mins for a natural release? Or can you just do a quick release to do it faster? Thanks.
I'm not 100% sure. That's just the way I do it and it works for me. :)
Your amazing
Thanks! :)
Since she won’t, I will. You’re*
What size instant pot are you using? Does it matter on size as to how long it cooks? Thanks
Mine is a 6 quart but it shouldn't matter on the size of IP you're using. ❤️
Kristen Pound
Kk, i just got a great deal on the 8qt from kohls, cant wait to start using 🤗
@@boknows8936 Yay! So exciting!
Does the amount of water change with size of the instant pot? I have a 10 qt ip
I don’t think so, but I’m not 100% sure.
@@KristenPound oh ok thanks. If its not done cooking do I just put it back in and put it on for another few minutes and natural release it again?
Again, not quite sure. But that seems like it would work. 🙂
Thanks for the vid. Will this taste like oven baked potatoes or?
They taste pretty similar to oven baked potatoes to me, but maybe just not as dry. And the skin doesn't get crispy like it might in the oven.
@@KristenPound Is there a way to do oven roasted potatoes in the instant pot? I did a search and I don't see many videos, they all require sauteing
@@okaythen001 This recipe is the closest thing that I know of to be honest.
Can I season the potatoes before placing them in the instant pot ?
I feel like the seasoning might come off in the steaming process, but it might be worth a try.
Oh hell ! Plug it in , forget it ! I’ll order out!
Okay, instapot & vegan? I'm subscribing for sure. 😊
got three big ass russets in their now. 14 minutes cook time. going to use them for potato with egg salad.. eggs are next in the instant pot
So how did it go?
should you / could you wrap them in aluminum foil first?
I don't, but I bet you could.
How do you set to hi..you set manual 12 minutes and said.. besure on hi ?
Mine just is always on high. I’m not 100% sure how to change it. 🙈
Probably too late, but for the specific model in this video, you press the button labeled "pressure" to switch between high and low pressure. It is the button right above "manual"
❤👍❗️👏thx
👌
"Plug in your instant pot" 🤣🤣🤣
I don't have a manual button..so which button is it....Pressure cook????
Yeah all IPs are different. I think it's pressure cook on some of them. :)
@@KristenPound Thanks..I am going to go try that now.
