I think people didn't expect that sudden change from the sunny and funny stuff from Most Wanted to a darker and serious city. Both are amazing in my opinion, but when I look closely it does feel that Carbon was better crafted by the developers, they nailed the style they were looking for, that's a great word to desbribe it, style... canyon races, crews fighting for territory, intense (and sometimes terryfing) soundtrack that adapts to the gameplay, like daaaamn, they worked hard.
