At least Russia has the excuse of trying to old itself together and small nations are to weak to meaningfully contribute beyond their own borders, China purposefully does nothing so that way they can appear neutral and conduct business in countries like Iran and Pakistan. @First Self the US does do some shady shit and destabilize some countries but they were also the only reason the Soviet Union stopped a third of the way into Germany rather then continuing into the Atlantic. The Soviets had intended to keep going and at the Tehran meeting they even announced that they considered the Balkans part of their sphere of influence just like Ukraine. They'd also intended on pushing into Scandinavia rather than stopping at Finland. The USSR had also planned on pushing into Japan and the Korean war was a proxy battle to break UN agreements on dividing Korea in half which is why the UN got involved and the only reason the Soviets didn't fully commit was because they didnt want war with the US. The Cold War and the War On Terror has proven the US willing to destabilize nations but it also showed the US willing to sacrifice alot to defend other countries and the US often spearheads UN missions like in Desert Storm, Yugoslavia, and across Africa. Countries lease bases to the US specifically so Americans will prevent that countries neighbors from invading and to provide internal security, such as in Germany, Japan, and the Philipines during the cold war through today and Japan continues to host american bases despite some of their citizens opposing it specifically because the Americans provide protection against Chinese aggression and help provide missile defense networks against North Korean missiles. Japanese citizens have protested the bases since service men have committed crimes, the bases cause pollution and noise, and they oppose it on pacifist/anti war grounds as well but the government and much of the public support the bases for the security they provide. It's a complicated situation and cant really be boiled down to a good/evil dichotomy. Geopolitics are rarely as simple as fairy tales or propaganda.
