I have grown to love Abuela Alma for her complexity. I do not agree nor like how she treated her family, but I understand her feelings stem from her trauma. However, I dislike seeing how people bash her character since she is not a villain, just a person who lost her way. I hope that in the franchise's future, we see positive growth in her character as she struggles to fix past mistakes healthily. I also wish we could get a what-if glimpse into the woman she could have been if Pedro had lived.

At the beginning of the film, I thought that Abuela Alma was Mirabel's mother, she gave her a hug, told her a story, they walked hand in hand and that smile that Alma made when she said "You are wonderful, Mirabel Madrigal" was , according to me, the look of a mother proud of her daughter
