Oh gosh when I was a kid in the 80’s I wanted a Monchichi so badly 😍 they used to advertise them on TV in Canada (I still remember the jingle lol), so you may have found out about them there. My mother ended up getting me the knock-off Sears catalogue brand of monkey doll, they were pretty similar but not identical.
I got one as a hand-me-down in the 80's from my cousins who probably got it in the 70's. I always loved him and was so excited to see how many are around these days when I finally searched online.
@@collectorsgonnacollect yes! I love the bebichichi's! Also, your pink bunny monchichi is my favorite, and the large one also looks like it would be fun to carry around!
Funny story: There is a party store down the street that imports a lot of stuff. They had a rack of Monchichi type of plush for $2.95 each. I bought one and crocheted a suit and hat for him. He got sent to Oregon, Well, a few months later, I was thrifting at Savers and there it was, one of those party store Monchichi type monkeys for sale. I wondered how much they were asi g for it and the tag said $20. I laughed out loud, told the shopper next to me to go down the street and get it for less than 3. Soooo, I guess they are still being made.
I love your collection. The one you got in Paris is my favorite of yours. I just got my first one again since I was a kid. Q: do you keep the original store tags on them?
@@collectorsgonnacollect 💕I’ll probably be like you and take the tags off. I got her in Little Tokyo in Los Angeles. They had a cute store that carried them there. I was so happy my hubby got her for me!!
The raccoon one is actually a Japanese tanuki so it's not exactly a raccoon. But the English translation of tanuki is raccoon dog. But they don't have stripes the same way that Western or European raccoons have stripes, but there's a lot of myth and Lore around them. I highly suggest looking up more information about tanuki because you might love them even more!
They're so cute!! I am currently building a small collectiin aswell. I am not sure the teal one is an original, since the eye colour may be part of the limited edition design? He seems shinier than the old ones. But I could be wrong. There are so many - one has to watch their wallet😀

I had "Carla" from the Monchichi cartoon when I was a child but my mother got rid of her. I've been looking to see if I can find one again.

That’s hilarious!
I was expecting you to say you found the monkey doll you used to own at Savers, with the outfit you made for him 😂

Personally, I don’t keep tags on. I know some people do, because it’s better for resale, but I’m a maniac and I do what I want!

Yes, the teal colour definitely seems out of the ordinary.
You know what? I take it back- there seem to be quite a few colorful vintage ones. That teal one was a goood find! 😊
