At least in California we can walk around unmasked and everything is open. That means I'm traveling again. I've had my eye on a Black Ember backpack for awhile now, but just didn't pull the trigger. All of their offering seem enticing and honestly seem like they have a lot of overlap in use cases. I ended up choosing the Forge since it's expandable, and if there's anything that gets me excited, it's versatility. 20L-30L? Hell yeah!
I currently use the Topo Designs 3-Day Global Briefcase and it's very similar in size and intended use case. The only reason I didn't like it was the looks. It's not super sleek or professional looking.
Enter the Forge. Black Embers aesthetic is really tech and modern looking. It's all super clean and well put together and really exactly what I was looking for in a travel pack. I'd also use it as and EDC.
As I mentioned it goes from 20L-30L and I used it mostly in 20L and it worked perfectly as a personal item carry on. I took it Guadalajara and it fit under the seat in front of me with ease.
They have a lot of built in organization in this bag and I didn't really make use of most of it. I'm the type that changes bags a lot and because of this, I don't often use all the nooks and crannies in a bag. Takes too much memory.
Though I liked the size and looks, I didn't find the backpack straps to be super comfortable. The Topo is more comfortable to me. Actually, many other bags are comfortable to me.
At $259 the Forge isn't cheap. If you are looking for a well built, well designed, clean looking bag though, it fits the bill nicely. Moreso if you find it to be comfortable.
Overall, I am keeping it, but I've got my eye on others to check out soon. Stay tuned!

How do you like this over the flight pack? I'm facing the same issue with the flight pack being too small and am thinking of getting the forge. How much more space would say the forge has over the flight pack? Thanks
Honestly, I think the Forge is a bit overbuilt and it's not my favorite bag. I do think it holds quite a bit more than the Flight Pack though. It looks nice, but it's pretty strappy and heavier than I'd like.

what other material? As far as I know, they are all Cordura.

Is the bag's frame ridged or does it have some flex so it can be squashed down length wise? Only asking because I want to know if this can fit in the personal item bin before I think about buying it.

It has flex. There isn't a stiff frame at all.

Thank for your review, i am still not sure if i want to buy it, i appreciate the design, but as a traveler i'm always pretty careful about thieves and pickpockets and i feel that this front pocket is just a big invitation to steal your belongings, could you tell me what you think about it?
Hmm, is not easy to open and you can secure it if you don't want to open it at all. I don't often walk about the city with a bag like this. Usually it's from point a to point b and u leave it. They are also a lot of more secure pockets in the bag of you need.
@@highswithlowe what i'm worried is about commuting in subways, i don't know if those zippers are really easy to slide or if their sound would be easily heard when someone opens it. What do you think about it?

@@Raweensworld Looks like MR is clearing out there masks. Half price, limited colors and sizes. I think people aren't buying masks as much anymore. As for the AusAir, it looks a bit gimicky to me and for $64 not worth it.
