Though his policies and decisions were largely bad, President Bush, for his part, is a tremendously decent human being. He was just in a bit over his head. It's partially our fault for putting him there, I suppose. That said, to his credit, he should be remembered for what he *didn't* do. After 9/11, he could've demonized the Muslim community. America was looking for a scapegoat. He defended American Muslims.
She was a grand Lady 🇬🇧
Former President Barack Obama and Former First Lady Michelle Obama first met Queen Elizabeth II in April 2009, a little over a year after Obama had taken office. The queen developed a fondness for the president and throughout his presidency, they would share several more meetings. Obama's last visit as president to Windsor Castle was in 2016 for the queen's 90th birthday (per Hello!).
Queen Elizabeth II enjoyed the company of the Obamas so much that she even wanted to invite them back once Obama left office, something that had not been done with any other former presidents. According to Insider, a former employee told royal author Tom Quinn that "The queen has a soft spot for Americans after meeting Barack Obama who she completely fell in love with - so much so that she has frequently asked her courtiers if they could arrange for him to come to Britain now he is no longer president."
Barack and Michelle Obama joined the world in expressing their sadness over the queen's passing and shared a statement on Twitter saying, "Michelle and I were lucky enough to come to know Her Majesty, and she meant a great deal to us." The bond between the former president and the queen was unique and a testament to their genuine enjoyment of one anothe

Sorry my friend. Her position, by definition, is powerless. She certainly had SYMBOLIC power, sure... but only if she never expressed her actual political convictions. That's not any sort of power I would want.

Queen Elizabeth certainly had power. Contrary to Bravers" assertion. Neither do I understand where Braver came up with the idea the queen was "a cutout figure to many Americans". Certainly not to this American.

Correction: Not since Dwight Eisenhower but rather Harry Truman. Elizabeth II became Queen in 1952, and Truman was still President of the United States (Eisenhower was elected in 1952 but was of course sworn in on Jan 20th 1953) although she met Truman in 1951 while she still Princess Elizabeth.

To think that the woman was a veteran of ww2. She reign over a state during so much. The life she lived i would of personality loved to hear.
She kept the show on the road…
She came to our School to cut the ribbon of our brand new sports centre building. Unfortunately only a few students got to see the Queen. I got to see it on news but it was huge for The Queen to come to our violent stricken secondary school (although things changed when we graduated 2007).
Kids at that age absorb misinformation or propaganda like a sponge so many students acted like we didn't care but I personally changed my mind about the Queen after her visit.
I knew the importance of her role and you don't have to be a royalist to love the Queen for her duty to the country. Us minorities admired the queen probably more so than some. R.i.p Queen Elizabeth II
Well said, Mr. Clinton....
Who said she didn't have any actual power? She had all the powers constitutionally given to her but she used them in a way that the power didn't feel dominant to the public. What do you think the monarch discusses with PM in their weekly meetings? Monarch conveys his wish regarding any issue to the cabinet through the PM.
So why was LBJ the only President who never met with the Queen? Was it logistics, politics, or that she wasn't a Texan?
He met with Princess Margaret...
She was pregnant and was advised not to travel.
Because of the same reasons Vladimir Putin won't attend Queen Elizabeth II's funeral...
You're too busy fighting a BULLSHT WAR.
She was on maternity leave at the time and LBJ had Vietnam going on at the time so travel, even to Europe might have been a bit dangerous. It was just a wrong place at the wrong time sort of deal.
LBJ? LeBron James?

Just imagine how many Americans have Ancestry in Great Britain and now thanks to Genealogy have only come to realize it in recent years. Maybe that explains a bit of America's fascination for with the Royal Family for decades.
Which is strange because this country, including Americans with a direct lineage from England, fought a long bloody war to get away from that family.

@@nomorealone9158 yes, the Major Issue to the Americans was "taxation without representation " - and, yes, the Declaration of Independence seems to focus on King George III, by the 1770s the monarch didn't have much real power left. Parliament was the Problem.
There is a difference between authority and power. A constitutional monarch may have very little authority, but enormous power behind closed doors.
