Staying consistent with triathlon training is not easy. It's not always fun. But if you want to improve and hit your goals then you need to be in it for the long haul.
Triathlon motivation, discipline, willpower are all great but in my opinion they miss the most crucial elements. In this video I talk about motivation with triathlon and how to stay consistent.
These are the best triathlon tips from my personal experience and from working with athletes.
Whether it's an ironman triathlon or a sprint triathlon, it's all the same! You need to start your tri training at the right place.

I love this! I've always said that running is something I do to make my life BETTER. If it ever becomes a stressful obsession/ obligation, it's no longer improving my life, and it's time for a new sport. I get motivated setting tough, exciting, slightly scary goals. I look for things in my ultras like great views, delicious food at the aid stations, live bands, and an incredible atmosphere. At the end of the day, I'm doing this for the memories. I would rather have incredible days munching on incredible food with incredible people in the woods, than to finish with a faster time, higher in the rankings, still far from the podium. I'm not a pro. I do this for fun/ health/ experiences and memories!!

Absolutely! I think that mindset is so important and I think more people would benefit and stay in it for the long term if they followed it. I'd like to do some ultras in the future too, for exactly the reasons you mentioned!

'What gets measured gets improved' - love this quote and I must say having months of data in a mobile app about my running helps me to understand what is actually going on with my training. And having fun is so important! At the end of the day if it stops being fun I would probably just stop doing it. And while it's fun to challenge yourself doing running events, it's also fun simply running by the river in beautiful weather enjoying the sun, it has a bit of meditative feel to it

It can be so helpful can't it? And yeah, absolutely, I'm the same. I like some competition and that can definitely be part of the fun - but I don't want it to all be about that!

How important is fun in your training? What keeps you motivated?

I mostly have fun in my training. Running alone, with a friend, listening to music, running intervals, getting better, challenging myself etc. It's all pretty exciting and fun!
As always a great video! 👍

My motivation is " promising myself to leave triathlon next season " and saying" keep training 4 months more than it will be over"
