    Crazy to think I was in eighth grade mowing the lawn to this shit. Never heard anything like it before at the time. Your pops was saying he was trying to think who was like them in his era - honestly, after going back to hear the OGs over my lifetime, on this album I now hear a lot of Run DMC in Ride's flow. That kind of throaty 80-90s cusp flow. I think he even shouts out EPMD on Exmilitary.

    Death Grips is as much a Hardcore Punk Band as they are a Digital Hardcore band as they are a Hardcore Rap outfit. They’re just… hard.

      @@stijn8588 i would call just some songs accessible, like i've seen footage

    • @EyesDontCry
      @EyesDontCry 6 месяцев назад +4

      @@stijn8588 it's commonly referred to as the most accessible album, quite a few people complained it was too pop when it first came out after an album like exmilitary being alot more rough.
      I think it speaks to their ability to actually compose well structured music while retaining their creative flair. And you still get songs like hacker and punk weight which go a bit off structure but again in a controlled way, still bringing it back to the catchy choruses.
      I go between it being my favourite album and not with bottomless pit and exmilitary, sometimes that electronic vibe really hits and other times the more heavy, rock inspired sounds on those other 2 albums is what I'm looking for.

    It will be funny if you guys do Year of the Snitch in the future, it was one of those albums that I didn't get into at first but after a few months I relisted and I was "Oh, that is pretty good actually" and then, after seeing people reactions, is such a mix of "it's the best album ever" and "it's the worst album ever" and I think it's even more experimental than The money store.

    I've Seen Footage always sounded like push it by Salt and Peppa to me personally. That drum pattern is very reminicent of the golden era but done it's own 2012 warped way. Death Grips is like a industrial grime (like Dizzy Rascal production). The album is peoples thought being subjected to the patterns of systems and how they f with the phyche creating pairinoia and a needless consumption running always back to The Money Store for sex, drugs, partying escapment. You're detatched their music only gets less accessable but No Love Deep Web he should give a spin. The album cover in punk and beyond sus lol
    You should checkout Boy in da Corner his self produced a hip hop grime album out in the UK from 2002. He was a trendsetter later signing to El-p (later Run The Jewels co member)'s label Definitive Jux.

      Another group to add into the Jpeg mafia and Death Grips conversation is Clipping. A LA based industrial group that tells amazing insane stories in their raps. They got 2 Halloween themed horror albums but also a Sci Fi horror movie album, two stellar group projects where they go into what Death Grips goes into patterns and choices we are given and how they affect us. I've been listening to them since before Daveed Diggs was in Hamilton who is an insanely great rapper.
