I've lived in Tucson ten years ago. It was definitely more welcoming for a left leaning person than other parts of the state (other than Sedona). But you also get more woo-woo people too (think crystal healing, etc ). The dry heat and higher altitude really helps those with joint and arthritis pain though! I enjoy the dry heat and miss it often (it's the only thing I miss, other than having almost zero lawn maintenance). I also think the sedona desert is beautiful, so we differ there.

Howdy neighbors, New Mexico resident here. If AZ is anything like us - it's very beautiful. I love the layered brown sand and rock, with scattered gardens of cactus green. Steep valleys and rolling hills meet wandering sunsets glazing an orange and purple backdrop across a horizon of snowcapped mountains. Whatever you do, don't move here!
I do sometimes miss the fir trees from the Pacific Northwest, but feel the Sonoran Desert is magnificent in it's own way. Do you ever hike in Sabino Canyon or the Catalinas?. Stunning rock formations, creeks, pools, saguaro, mesquite and palo verde trees, flowering cactus and other plants.. and amazing critters. And the summer monsoon brings it all alive. Our neighborhoods are full of trees actually, so if you go up toward Mt Lemmon and look down you will see a sea of green, not brown.
Tucson is not NYC. Have lived in both places. Really miss Tucson, it’s beautiful. Most of things you mention I love about it. Not surrounded by endless suburbs. When you go for a drive you are out in the desert in a very short time. Someone who loves long drives in beautiful wide open landscape. Forget Phoenix. Like LA but none of the positives. The desert greens up overnight once the rainy season arrives. You don’t seem to appreciate the desert beauty of Tucson. I think if you are from a more temperate area, I can see why you are making blanket statements about “ugly.” However, to me Tucson is stunning, as is most of Arizona.
You did this whole video about "facts" but every thing you mentioned was subjective. The "facts" are that summer temps are now frequently 3 digits for weeks at a time. It's a bad place to try to garden. Heat stroke comes fast. Dehydration comes fast. Water is more important than anything. Swamp coolers, you forgot those. Don't forget the peeping Toms either. And I can't believe you didn't mention Valley Fever. You get that just by breathing the air of the desert and it can cripple you. Oh yeah, every single natural plant has thorns. The cockroaches are huge and everywhere and the chemicals to kill them will eff you up too. FACTS.
Facts: AZ is a swing state and politics vary. Waits at restaurants are longer than in other cities in the US. The only subjective portion of me calling Tucson ugly was followed with the fact that Tucson is brown. :) This was just a quick 12 min video, so it's impossible to cover everything, but - thanks for giving me content for the next video! I appreciate it. We don't see swamp coolers too too much anymore as they're usually now being switched out for A/C and there are so many new builds which have central air, but that's another great point! I've never seen any cockroaches here, so I'm super curious - what part of town do you live in?
Anywhere in Europe really and some parts of Asia are beautiful and Australia and NZ are also pretty good. America has absolutely nothing going for it nowadays. Nope. My husband is an immunologist and he told me it’s not worth the pain to even try to identify the allergen. I happily agree with him 😂 It might be useful for some people with severe cases but most of us can just take medication to manage it well.
It’s the southwest and the desert. And water ( regardless of what this know it all says ) will be in a critical shortage. And agriculture should come first. Don’t laugh at a farmer or rancher with a mouth full of food. If you get hungers, eat your Guggi handbag.
I do have a uncle who lives in Tucson Arizona. He moved there with his parents in early 1970’s. My grandpa retired there with his wife and his son (my uncle) .
On Tucson water....yeah, after two weeks there, I gave up on it (1989-1992). Just a bad taste. So prepare yourself to buy bottled water. On the airport thing....if you had a destination of Orlando or DC.....I'd strongly advise to use Sky Harbor out of Phoenix. Regional travel was not a big deal and Tucson's airport does the job.
Restaurants: I live in a very food-oriented town in NC. It's the same here. It's mostly because they can't find people who give a ratts a butt about working.
