What had happened in the 5th minute? A miracle? A bunch of old wrenches, which looked like a chicken bone suddenly became a thick piece of steel!!! Hey man, you are a magician!
Yeah this isn’t possible period.
It’s like saying you can stretch out one piece of bread into a full loaf of bread.
Pretty sure you don’t need to acid etch and get a reaction when it’s the same steel?!?!?
that never happened there were lots of bits that were not sticking. and the billet was much smaller.
Exactly!!! It's kinda like those videos of 2 native guys digging this elaborate underground house with a pool using a couple of sticks...... There's usually a big jump in progress, but the excavator tracks are covered up in that case so nobody asks any questions.
"I tried to make a hunting knife out of rusty wrenches I didn't even bother to clean because I have no idea what I'm doing and screwed it up, so I decided that instead of owning my mistake I'd just lie for views" fixed the title for you.
Yeah he should've cleaned them then put them in a steel box full of flux and iron oxide and welded that box shut, and maybe pressed it instead of hammering, i think he would've succeeded then 🤔
Edit: and maybe surface grinded the wrenches to make them flat?
As an ex-fabricator, I agree 100% that steel will not last. If it does, I’m playing powerball again.
Did anyone in this thread stop to think that maybe it wasn’t about the functionality of the creation but simply what he made of it?? People would still pay hundreds for it just because someone took the time to make it with their own hands. Try appreciating the work of others instead offering criticism.
But since criticism was offered how about you all create something “better” and post it.
I like the knife for what it is.He worked way harder than he had to but that being said would last me my life time . 😊
Looks to me like the wrenches didn't work out. Had to go with plan B. lol.
5:06 ?????🤥 Niemals sind das die Schlüssel. Dieses Video zeigt nicht die Wahrheit 🥴
It’s well known fact in the knife making community that leaving the welds in always makes the best quality damascus. 👌🏻 No doubt 😂
What happened to the wrenches? I'd have thought that to forge weld items with so much space you'd need a canister and filler like a powdered steel, otherwise you'd never be able to get rid of the occlusions.
Neither was he. That is why he does not show what happened at min. 5🤣
It can be done without a canister or powdered steel filler. It wouldn't be much different than forging motorcycle chains. Otherwise, you are correct he has a lot more material in the finished billet than what he started with.
The SnapOn Damascus or is it the Craftsman Damascus?
Just throw borax at it.
More borax!
What happened at 5:00 ? There's No way you got that much steel from those wrenches...
Noticed that, too?
It like tripled in size haha looks like he made a boo boo started over added mor metal and boom a huge billet shows up out of nowhere haha
Аиd no Damascus pattern later )
Hard not to notice that little bait and switch tactic. Maybe if it was done slightly slower and not just like "hey a bar of steel"
Well. In his defence, he had no idea. Having blinded himself wearing sunglasses while arc welding the lovely dirty wrenches together, he had no idea what he was doing the rest of the video.
What happened to the chicken bone that was half wrenches and half welds? Did it magically increase 5 times in size and turned into a flat piece of steel around the 5 mi ute mark?
hmm im asking the same question
Nice knife, but it was hard to watch you making it! I have rarely seen anyone so careless with their eyes and tools.

Borax, the white stuff everyone is asking about, it’s Borax. And where did that nasty pile of rusty wrenches go? I can’t do any of this, but I know a lot about it. Those rusty wrenches were a disaster from the gate 🤷♂️
Houve uma interrupção da sequência desse forjamento.
BOM...COM CERTEZA VOCÊ FEZ UMA FACA. A PERGUNTA É: COMO QUE NÃO APARECEU NADA DE LINHAS DAS CHAVES VELHAS 🧐? ENQUANTO VOCÊ FAZIA A APLICAÇÃO DO BÓRAX PARA DEIXAR O BILIT ADENSADO SIMPLESMENTE APARECEU UMA PEÇA JÁ PRENSADA E DEFINIDA EM BARRA CHATA 🧐.
NÃO TENTE ENGANAR QUEM É FAZEDOR DE FACAS TAMBÉM(CUTELEIRO) 🧐

At least an explanation next time that the wrenches didn't work out because...... Not just switch to a solid billet like nothing happened

I don't like being lied to for views. First and last time viewing any of your content.
Yes Sir. Great work on that fine knife. I’m hooked on your talent.
That beltsander is sippin on its last dry martini!!
Can't believe he was welding with sunglasses crazy
Amazing. As a beginner knife maker it amazes me how clean your bevels are by hand with a grinder. I want to get to that skill level some day.
Think you need to watch this again my friend, or gain some more experience. It's super easy to grind bevels with an angle grinder when you can edit video. Make one pass and boom the bevels are there.
Is there a gofundme to buy this man a welding mask?
Very cool profile to the blade. Looks great 👍
Beautiful knife keep up the good work my friend
You seem to be a pretty good knife maker, but please don't try to deceive your audience, by trying to make them believe that you actually made that knife, from that monstrosity of welded up wrenches.
Miracle billet at 5:02
You're the first blacksmith I see, who adds a generous amount of flux on your steel. This is very satisfying.

Can't wait to watch that tip snap off
I don't even make knives and I could tell homie pulled the whole... "look over there"...and switched that steel.
Exactly. You cannot get any kind of pattern when just using one type of metal.
Nice work
Awsome dude.
As a professional Forged in Fire watch, I can honestly say he should have cleaned his steel and made canister Damascus.
Love how he magically got a damascus pattern from only one type of steel. All those wrenches were the same material so where did the other metal come from to make the patterns he had? The welds he left in? Because those booger welds would have made even more inclusions than the gaps and dirty steel already had.
As another professional FiF watcher, I was wondering if he was starting to hammer the wrenches (while he still had them) when they were getting too cold, based on how dark they got several times...
Nice skinning blade. I love that handle. Nice a big with rounded edges fit for bigger hands.
Amazing work brother.
Nicely done ✅
A big ole thumbs up on that bad boy!!! And my god what a power hammer!!!! Damn!
I knew I had to come to the comment section as soon as I saw him weld those rusty ass pieces together. Forged in fire has made us all pros haha
Wait a second here, how did he get such a large billet out of that. I smell shenanigans here.
Hola !!
Impresionante el cuchillo que hiciste !!
Excelente tu trabajo !!
Te felicito 😉👏👏
Good job.
Sunglasses for stick welding? Won't be seeing much of anything soon!
That death-wheel of an abrasive cutting disc, and a saw blade, mounted directly to an industrial electric motor, sheesh!
Why is watching borax bubble look so satisfying?
Awesome work!
dumb question time:
Why weren’t the wrenches wire-wheeled to remove the rust before welding them into a billet?
What is the white powder you put on every step?
No face shield when stick welding!!!! Sun burn much?
Hello what is the use of that white powder
Could you tell the specific application of that white powder that you apply on res hot steel
Əla. Yorulmayasan usta. Açarları qızdırdıqdan sonra üstünə tökdüyün ağ rəng duz kimi olan nədir və nə üçündür?
Next time cover the welding lights
Thanks
Vous faites de très très belles lames…. J’adore votre travail !
Love that excess glue and rough finish on the front of the handle scales. There's a reason you usually finish the front of the scales before glue up since it's hard to finish them afterwards and you clean up the excess glue that leaks out before it dries.
That's a nice knife
Hmmm... I think your original billet long since burnt up in the fire. The mass of the wrenches is only a fraction of the bar. If you would have cut the ends of the wrenches off and then forge welded those you might have had a small bar that you might have used for the centre bar of a San Mai.
when forge welding never never let your billet cool that much in between heats while you are setting the welds, that's why they didnt stick
Hey bro please let know about the trigger warning bro i colaps on the floor because of the welding light
I agree with the below comment regarding what happened at the 5th minute.
beautiful knife, great work
what is this powder? what is this powder putted on?
Immer wieder fasziniert 💪💪💪
Bravo Master
I think I just watched 2 different videos combined. No way just after the 5 minute mark he had that much steel.
Whats the name of that knife Cold Shunt? 3lbs of Flux? Looks like half the outer layer burned off. Should have saved a bunch of time and chopped the ends off to get a tighter fit from the start. But hey its a knife so mission accomplished i guess.
are the scales olive wood? they’re gorgeous!

What is the white powder?
Found where all my 10mm wrenches went
looking at all kinds of videos today. just curious what is that white stuff you are sprinkling on the item you are working on? I am not a knife maker nor a welder.
Its borax mix commonly referred to as flux. Its purpose is to help remove impurities by melting away carring the impurities away from the metal allowing the carbon atoms to bond.
The second time I'm asking this question, can't this guy afford safety glasses. He's really been lucky so far, but luck will only take you so far.
Yeah second time I'm saying this... Mig/Tig/Stick welding (these three are the same) vs Oxy Acetylene vs Forge welding all produce different spectrums of UV light and the eye protection is NOT interchangeable, and in fact using dark glasses that are not the correct type will just do more damage than none of at all.
Not to mention a particles protection mask, all the grinding and cutting of steel and wood, also the glue/epoxy itself is unsafe in most cases but that will require a chemical respirator
@@andyroo8592does forge welding using flux require Eye protection? Or are you talking about welding the wrenches together using a welder at the start?
@@vcommandarv5916 using an arc welder with only a pair of sunglasses. VERY stupid.
@@vcommandarv5916 I did reply to this question but short answer is a ye as because the FB lux CV ones spraying out everywhere and be it's molten boric acid at around 1000 degrees Celsius.
Sorry but this is a lie. You did not get that steel out of those small wrenches period. It’s physically and scientifically impossible. Did you screw up and edit two videos together but this is not the truth. Please explain
I noticed that as well. I’ve watched plenty of videos for the last 6 years cause I wanted to do blacksmithing
That was a lie and a half. Those wrenches did not make that knife I didn’t watch all of the episode it pissed me off
That is the most usage of Borax or flux I’ve ever seen anyone use on a billet!
Beautiful blade, elegant design, no cold shuts, awesome work!!
Seriously?
@@nyxionn seriously.
Dude! When you getting a white and red cane?
Do y’all know how difficult it is to make rough grinding a blade with an angle grinder look easy?
If you mean the bevels I think you need to rewatch and consider how editing works.
Lol you sure do use alot of flux.....
Verdade Gilmar muito estranho.
I was enjoying it when important parts of the work were censored
What is the white powder you keep putting on the metal once it get very hot? Thanks.
Borax, to drive out the impurities and make a good weld.
But would be of ZERO benefit when attempting to use such dirty metal as was used here, hence why a completely new steel billet appears at 5minutes.
This man has a sense of humor, but I am missing something.
Gotta love how many people pass off 90-99% machining to 1-10% smithing as 100% smithing. Not even gonna start on all the other obvious problems in this video.
What is that powder and what is it for?
Why you didnt sand the woodwn handle before you glue them.?
All that work to turn it into steel plate... and you weren't welding those wrenches at those temps.
You could actually hear the delamination, and see it.
Admit it was a failure and you'll earn the respect and loyalty from fans. Lie to them and you'll quickly find yourself irrelevant. This video was a lie. Don't be that guy.
What is the powder he puts on the hot metal? And what does it do to the metal? Is it necessary to use? Thanks.
Borax, it helps clean the steel and prevents oxidation which helps create cleaner welds
dumb question: What's the white powder?
Zuado demais
Jesus man protect your eyes. Those sun glasses will not stop all the uv getting to your retinas during welding.
It is made of wrenches.... or Flux? I've never made a knife in my life, but knew this was wrong from the start.
