    The Philadelphia Air traffic controller and SWA 1380 PIC handled the emergency in a very professional manner. My heroes they are. There is a lot to learn from this incident/accident from Maintenance , Emergency handling, CRM ,ATM. May the soul of the departed rest in eternal peace

      Listen to some other clips, on You tube. I heard an ATC get smart with a commercial jet. The commercial guy had to put the ATC in his place. He had the ATC backpedaling wide open , but he had already done too much. The commercial guy was insistent that the tapes would be pulled, and listened to by higher ups.

    the air traffic controller, other pilots who diverted from their flight plan so the pilot of 1380 could maintain a plane that was minus one engine and filled with passengers and then successfully land her plane. Smh. My God!

      MD88Pilot... Why do you go by "MD88Pilot", when in actuality, you are only a kid? You've made a few lame takeoff and landing videos on your channel, but make it clear, that you are only a kid in middle school or possibly High School. You need to drop your title and hand it over to a real MD88 Pilot. It's click bait kid.

    • @MD88Pilot

      Bama MoonDog Number one I am not a kid. I am a pilot and it may not be the MD88 that I fly but I still fly. Number two I can call myself whatever I want. I have had plenty of airline pilots know my RUclips and and Instagram and they do not care what it is. Even the real MD88 pilots. so do me a favor and screw off

      Being on a plane that crashes or almost crashes is like winning the lottery, but in a bad way. The chances are very slim. Just look at a flight radar website and watch how many airplanes are in the sky at any moment and how many are taking off and landing safely. Maybe that will give you some perspective on the degree of safety of air travel. Cheers! :)

She only had one working engine... an aircraft full of passengers on oxygen... a blown out left passenger window... passengers and crew trying to save a lady's life... as well as trying to land the plane safely and talk to the air traffic controller for exact instructions... she's not a hero?? What are you thinkin' ???

    • @califcamper
      @califcamper 6 лет назад +1

      Bama MoonDog ??? Well I guess I keep the "HERO", classification for humans that do extraordinary things. She did her job, landing a plane with a working engine, as far as cabin she didnt know what was even going on. As far as the oxygen masks, they automatically drop.
      I mean not saying she did a great job, but come onnnn your stretching it....now Scully was more of a hero (and he has even discredited the label), he landed in a river WITHOUT a casualty...just sayin, hell we mine as well say the guy that installed the oxygen masks was a hero too, cause they dropped down like they were supposed too LOL

That training includes simulated damage to the aircraft that can affect its flying characteristics and minimum controllable speed. I just hope this new appreciation for what pilots do will lead to adequate pay and conditions for US air crew.

  • @redlightcivic
    @redlightcivic 6 лет назад +2

    I'm gonna be the bad guy here. I am thankful the pilot managed to get the aircraft on the ground in one piece and I think the controller did an awesome job. While I am confident the pilot's work load was heavy, she doesn't seem very sure of herself or clear in her communications. Perhaps she was stunned or has a very sedated demeanor. Also, I have watched several videos featuring ATC communication. It is possible I missed the very first controller, but from what I have heard, it appears she entered her emergency decent without discussing it with a controller. Again, perhaps she was communicating with a different controller prior to the decent. However, if she did enter the decent without checking with a controller, that would seem to be pretty gutsy move considering the congested airspace in which the aircraft was traveling.

    • @gcorriveau6864
      @gcorriveau6864 6 лет назад +9

      You're simply revealing your lack of understanding. Pilots don't discuss an "emergency descent," which is why it's called an emergency descent. As for traffic, the aircraft are equipped with TCAS. And really? You're "analyzing" her tone of voice in the transmissions and drawing conclusions about what else is going on and her state of mind? Really? Please just stop.

    • @kingt.hawkings32

      redlightcivic look dude ...rapid decompression engine flame out..s big bang...I'd like to see you preform like this crew did! I'm a pilot and airline mechanic and even the ATC controllers handled this situation perfectly...and this doesn't happen every
      Day or year so give them a break.
      They saved143 passengers! Kudos to Southwest!

    • @redlightcivic
      @redlightcivic 6 лет назад

      Yep, that's why they call it an emergency decent and "Yes" commercial aircraft are equipped with Traffic Collision Avoidance System. My point, when in an extremely congested airspace where traffic is often separated by no more than a 1000ft and at a rate of descent as great as was indicated by radar tracking, the likelihood of TCAS being effective were dramatically decreased. Yep, an engine was gone. They were also at altitude, within the reach of multiple airports and the other engine was just fine. I did see some dings on the leading edge of the left wing, but I never heard a control issue mentioned. Yes, you gotta get the aircraft down to breathable level. But, if the plane is flying, oxygen mask are on up front and masked dropped in the rear, PERHAPS a quick call to ATC to make sure you aren't going to fly the thing head on into another aircraft could be a consideration. Also, I was not "analyzing her tone of voice", I was commenting on her incomplete transmissions and lack of informing ATC medical assistance was need until late. Also, where is the #2? Was this lady flying the plane, communicating with ATC and serving drinks? As I am sure everyone knows, one would think she would be flying and the other officer communicating with ATC or the other way around.

    • @gcorriveau6864

      redlightcivc You are making it more obvious that you are not familiar with what you are writing about. Please, again. Just stop. Or ask sincere questions? Learn? www.lunarbaboon.com/comics/commenter.html

    • @redlightcivic
      @redlightcivic 6 лет назад +1

      Educate me. What part of the statement is incorrect? I am all about learning. During an emergency is it not standard procedure for one crew member to "fly the plane" and the other officer primarily handle radio communications and troubleshoot? Is it not a bit odd she is flying a severely damaged aircraft and handling ATC communication? Is a 737 not cable of flying perfectly fine on one engine? Yes, weight and altitude play a factor, but not a huge deal. Did the incident not occur in one of the most congested air spaces in the Country? Is reliability of TCAS not affected by rapid changes in altitude? Is the vertical separation required between aircraft not 1000 ft? Perhaps there were control issues with the aircraft, I wasn't there. Also, I never said ATC did a bad job, I thought they did an awesome job. I never said the pilot did a bad job. I simply questioned some of the decisions made, which the NTSB will do also. If you listen to the beginning of ATC audio when the pilot announces she is "descending", listen to the response for the controller. They appeared to be shocked. Again, I fully understand the aircraft needs to get down, but simply asked if there was an attempt to inform ATC of the situation.
