I agree. When recording this video, the camera mic picked up the extra sound more distinctly when they were facing directly at the camera. When they were behind or on the side of the camera, it would not pick up the sound all that great. Couldn't really hear any difference.
So I got the HW-Q65T/ZA soundbar, subwoofer and wireless rear speaker kit (SWA-8500) all in one box. Subwoofer auto connects just fine. But when connecting the wireless receiver module, the soundbar will not go to ID SET. Manual says to press and hold the UP button for 5 seconds so I have tried that as well as the volume button as your video shows and no matter what soundbar will not going into ID SET. Any ideas?
For some strange reason the surround sound was better with an optical cable than with HDMI Arc especially while streaming on Netflix. Is it because Netflix broadcasts in Dolby digital plus while this soundbar supports only Dolby digital. The Samsung TV probably decodes Dolby digital plus on the optical connection than over HDMI Arc. The soundbar should have supported DD plus instead of just DD.
These are ment to compliment your soundbar not to over power it so there only half as loud there for stereophonic I think right word but there to pick up background sounds echoes and gunshots soundbar main talking and more bass parts this system makes a huge difference with movies shows not really news but definitely worth adding to system
The system that I own is an LG 3.1 Dolby Atmos system. However, I went ahead and added rear speakers and let me tell you it sounds really awesome! With that said, it definitely makes a difference having the two rear speakers weather is for a 3.1 system or so.👍🏼👍🏼😎
Make sure you use the reset button on the back of the wireless receiver if it doesn't connect right away. I was just unplugging the unit( blue light would flash) but not connect. Finally I got a big paperclip and pushed the reset button- then the blue light stayed on long enough to find the soundbar.
Hi guys, I do have problem with those rear speakers. They stopped working for few days, the blue and red light is flashing. I reconnect them, working for 10seconds and after it is flashing again. I un-plug them for 24hours, but it did not help. Does someone have the same problem ? Or does someone know how to fix it ? THX in advance.
Hi! Quick question: once the rear speakers are connected, do you loose the Bluetooth option to connect the phone at the same time? My soundbar manual says that it can only be connected by Bluetooth with one component at the same time... Thank you! (Samsung HW-M450)
I'm using Playstation Gold headphones, these are specifically built for 7.1 surround. With these, I heard a serious different, the sound was more filling. Now I have to hear that in person.

Does not work. You can't really improve much from there considering most content doesn't support 7.1 if you're going to add something new might as well look into 5.1.2 for the over head speakers.

Did you try changing the sound output mode ? Like from surround to standard or something. If it’s in surround and the sound-bar is not getting 5.1 input, it may not transmit anything to the rear speakers. Hope this helps !

@@oldaccount7463 I hv asked in different forums. No one is giving me the answer. :) I think after rear speakers my 5.1 sound bar will become 3.1 and route the back channel sound to these external speakers. Just a theory :)
I understand it will play the upfiring speakers along with rear in surround mode. Whereas, in DTSVX, it may actually use rear speakers as 4th and 5th channels. That being said, in still looking for a way to get these from Dubai as not available in India. Any way of getting it here?

Also I just saw several comments stating there is little to no volume on these speakers while playing movies and only work if the volume is increased beyond 25. Hi Brian, I have the Samsung HW-Q850A sound bar that includes the rear speakers you have. My problem is that the rear speaker are really hard to hear (vol at max +6) unless really really close to the speaker (I do hear sound comming out of them so my connections are ok). Do you have any suggestions or should I just return the sound bar? BTW, the sub is also really weak!
I'm not impressed with the volume either. Wish I could install a amplifier and a volume control to get more out of them because, as people say, the sound bar over powers them so I mostly hear it.

Nice review. It was clear that the sound was better with the Rear Speakers (RS). I think it would be nice if you went through the steps of connecting the RS and Amp/Rcvr to the TV (setting up the wireless connection and audio settings). It might also be nice to hear the sound with the RS actually behind you, or where you would set them up in the room. Thanks. Good job.

I plan on taking a speaker to home depot and finding a screw that properly fits the screw inserts and directly mounting to the wall. Or setting on couchside tables
Watching this in 2019. Please note that they are suitable also for the new Q60, Q70 and Q80 sound bars. I believe they come together with the Q90's bundle so no need to purchase.
@@paulcawley I bought this stand on Amazon for $40, not the greatest but it works (Sanus Adjustable Height Speaker Stand - Extends 28" to 38"). I had the same issue as you, the screw on the back hole don't fit, so I just used the flat support that comes with the sticky adhesive and just set the speaker on top of it (it holds really good). I can send you some pictures, let me know how.
@@Wananchasqo hi, with the Q70, sounds really good yes, I can adjust the volume too with the soundbar remote. Look on ebay, dont pay full retail price. In my opinion it's a MUST addition to the soundbar, love how movies and PS4 games sound!
Turn off your soundbar and plug in the rear speaker to power and you should see a flashing blue light on the reciver box connected to the rear speakers ( if not hold the pairing button untill it flashes blue) then with with soundbar turned off press in and hold the volume button down , after 5 to 8 seconds the soundbar should show on the led panel "id set" the bar should turn itself on after a few seconds and the blue flashing light will go a solid blue. If you want to up the volume per chanel pres the settings button and press up on the direction pad to up the volume to +6 . Keep pressing the settings button to cycle through each channel including rear speakers:)
Is there a 220v version of this? I have been looking for one to pair up my old m450 and now the Q60R but unfortunately we could not find a 220v version for use in Asia.
This is something I’m going through now. Just bought the Samsung Hw-Q60r soundbar and they SAY it has rear wireless speakers but in all the documentation it doesn’t say what speakers they’re compatible with. I even called Samsung and they said they didn’t have a pair yet. Once I actually purchased the soundbar I opened the manual and it said it was compatible with the 8500s. So much confusing info!
So you need amp build in that will create more heat and weight plus it will be bigger , you will still need a power cord , unless you want rechargeable battery which will add heat and even more weight . Fully wireless speakers not very practical .
I bought the MS-650 and the SWA-9000S used. The soundbar sounds good. I barely get any sound out of the rears. I have the rears on and the volume set on 6. Max. I’ve tried multiple sources including the Dolby testing on RUclips. My soundbar is hooked up to my TCL 55R625 via HDMI Arc. Any suggestions??
If you are trying to play 5.1 or Dolby videos from RUclips, you wouldn't hear the rear sound cause RUclips doesn't support 5.1 or Dolby encoding. Try to play the Dolby test video from their site, I believe you gotta play that video on Edge browser cause Chrome or Firefox doesn't support Dolby Atmos encoding. Or you could play a 5.1 movie on Netflix or other streaming site.
Anybody have this hooked up to a r60c soundbar? Not listed here but in my owners manuel. Wondering if anyone is able to get true surround sound with that bar, thanks!
Hi, I just purchased the Samsung HW K850 Soundbar,(as I wanted to replace my Panasonic home cinema surround system, the usual too much wires). I was extremely disappointed with the soundbar, the sound was underwhelming to say the least (and it was a very pricey purchase). It now looks like I need to get a couple of Samsung 360 speakers to get a more surround sound. Can you tell me are those rear speakers compatible with the HW K850? Thanks in advance. (TIP* If your thinking of replacing your home cinema multi speaker system to a soundbar, think twice, but that's just based on my own personal experience).
Yes there is a convenience factor that a sound bar provides that makes live easier. I agree a true sound system setup will always sound amazing. I looked up in the instructions if the K850 is compatible model and it wasn't listed. They also have the swa-9000s speakers but I'm not completely sure they will work either. I didn't dig too deep on Google... Maybe reach out to Samsung?
I really appreciate your reply. So today I visited three different electrical stores. In one I purchased the Samsung SWA-9000S/XU rear speakers (at a cost of €300). I got it home and proceeded to try to set it up with my soundbar (included with the rear speakers was a dongle connection to be plugged into the soundbar), the HW K850 does not have a connection to allow this (so bang goes that attempt).Luckily enough the store I bought them in (which was the same store I bought the soundbar in) told me if they didn't work I could return them (we will see how generous they will be). While the SWA-8500 you've reviewed for us doesn't seem to come with a dongle I assumed that might work with the K850. Based on your advise I did go to a Samsung customer forum and saw a thread created by someone with exactly the same problem as mine. Ultimately a lot of people tried to offer advice, but it seems to be coming back to the fact that there are no Samsung rear speakers compatible with the K850. For the price you pay for the soundbar (€850) that really is serious disappointment. If I had known that I would've had this problem I would have paid that bit more for the K950, considering it comes with rear speakers (hence the extra cost). As it stands, the K850 is top of the range from Samsung , bar the K950. Considering all the time, effort and money I've now spent try to find rear speakers for the K850 (and yet not being able to find them), I would've been better off paying the extra for the K950. Right now the K850 feels like a bum deal for the price I paid. I will contact Samsung customer support tomorrow with a view to trying to find out if there are any rear speakers (or plans for the same) that would be compatible with the K850. Once again thanks for your reply.
Yeah, let all of us know. I've got the LG SH7B -- which sounds awesome -- I was surprised to say least. Had a sound system from years back, and (for the price) it was really, really impressive. Put it in my wife's room. Now, I want to get the rear ones like above from BestBuy. Hope it works. But, LG has no output, but I hope the wirelesss or bluetooth will share the signal and let the rear speakers connect somehow. I know you said you paid dearly on those, but LG's was quite nice price at Costco. Never had soundbar but I am QUITE IMPRESSED with how much sound and fullness. It's 360W and 4.1, so it's TOO LOUD if you turn it all way up. 70% was enough for incredible volume in her room. Anyway, thanks all of you for sharing & helping.

I was upset when I pair this kit with my WH-M450 and found out that the Soundbar does not output true surround. It just gives a simulated surround effect.
The Soundbar accepts and decodes DTS signals via optical from my HTPC however it cannot properly process the channels rherefore watching dts movies produce somewhat muffled vocals and overpowering music leaving the user to always have the remote on standby to manually adjust volumes throughout the movies

Thanks for showing this to us. I just got a LG soundbar from Costco, and I wanted to add some rear speakers. This looks easy and hope it works with LG too. I was QUITE IMPRESSED with the LG soundbar (LG SH7B) -- very, very, very impressive. Love it. Hooked it up and had to, JUST HAD TO, watch a movie with it. Saw Extinction on Netflix and sound was spectacular. Can't wait to see what these Samsung rear speakers can do. Again, thank you ...

@@BriansThing Fair enough, Maybe you need another mic or maybe use something like a phone which has a microphone on the top and bottom and have either mic facing either direction for that stereo sound. My galaxy s7 does stereo recording really well and that's just a phone. either way I still bought these speakers and they're pretty fuckin great.
Zac Quitzau seems a bit silly to assume that he’s using something other than MAYBE a stereo microphone to capture this video. People with 5.1 speakers won’t notice a damn thing.
I actually wanted these speakers as side speakers instead of rear, have you tried watching movies with them as side speakers? Would like to know how it sounded having them up front.
I have these mounted on the wall directly against the back of my couch facing me from either side and I like them. Music sounds amazing. Movies and TV shows that are made with good surround to begin with sound good as well. They are not super loud but can be slightly bumped up through the soundbar’s menu
Sure there's an add spkr button on the rear to pair. If not, try powering off bar, hold vol button down on remote for 5secs then I'd set should appear o on display, power on bar.
According to Samsung's website, supposedly I can use these surround speakers with the Samsung | Harman/Kardon HW-Q60R soundbar. I like my soundbar a lot but my living room is pretty large and open w/ 12ft ceilings. The HW-Q60R has no problem painting the seating area around my TV with sound but has some difficulty filling the entire room. I think these could be the answer.
the subwoofers are boss.... but them back ground speakers weak as water its like not having nothing if i knew they were this weak i would not have brought it.

Turn sound bar off. Theres a button on the back of the rear speaker amp, hold it till the light flashes. Hold mute on s/b remote till ID set pops up. Rear speaker led should go solid. Then power on sb

Those speakers are supposed to go behind your sitting/listen position.

For the price, these are great! I've had mine about four months and love them. EASY to set up and connect to Samsung sound bar.

Got mine a few weeks ago and love them. If you get low volume you can boost it independently

I just got these alongside a soundbar and they are so quiet. I even set them to +6 volume and they still are barely noticeable.

Nice review. It was clear that the sound was better with the Rear Speakers (RS). I think it would be nice if you went through the steps of connecting the RS and Amp/Rcvr to the TV (setting up the wireless connection and audio settings). It might also be nice to hear the sound with the RS actually behind you, or where you would set them up in the room. Thanks. Good job.

Watching this in 2019. Please note that they are suitable also for the new Q60, Q70 and Q80 sound bars. I believe they come together with the Q90's bundle so no need to purchase.

@@paulcawley I bought this stand on Amazon for $40, not the greatest but it works (Sanus Adjustable Height Speaker Stand - Extends 28" to 38"). I had the same issue as you, the screw on the back hole don't fit, so I just used the flat support that comes with the sticky adhesive and just set the speaker on top of it (it holds really good). I can send you some pictures, let me know how.

@@Wananchasqo hi, with the Q70, sounds really good yes, I can adjust the volume too with the soundbar remote. Look on ebay, dont pay full retail price. In my opinion it's a MUST addition to the soundbar, love how movies and PS4 games sound!

I have the n550 5 series sound bar and I’m trying to link those same rear speakers the 8500s . How do you link it to the sound bar?
Turn off your soundbar and plug in the rear speaker to power and you should see a flashing blue light on the reciver box connected to the rear speakers ( if not hold the pairing button untill it flashes blue) then with with soundbar turned off press in and hold the volume button down , after 5 to 8 seconds the soundbar should show on the led panel "id set" the bar should turn itself on after a few seconds and the blue flashing light will go a solid blue. If you want to up the volume per chanel pres the settings button and press up on the direction pad to up the volume to +6 . Keep pressing the settings button to cycle through each channel including rear speakers:)

This is something I’m going through now. Just bought the Samsung Hw-Q60r soundbar and they SAY it has rear wireless speakers but in all the documentation it doesn’t say what speakers they’re compatible with. I even called Samsung and they said they didn’t have a pair yet. Once I actually purchased the soundbar I opened the manual and it said it was compatible with the 8500s. So much confusing info!
How about building a receiver in each speaker with a power cord so it is TRULY a WIRELESS setup? Is that too hard to do?
So you need amp build in that will create more heat and weight plus it will be bigger , you will still need a power cord , unless you want rechargeable battery which will add heat and even more weight . Fully wireless speakers not very practical .
I bought the MS-650 and the SWA-9000S used. The soundbar sounds good. I barely get any sound out of the rears. I have the rears on and the volume set on 6. Max. I’ve tried multiple sources including the Dolby testing on RUclips. My soundbar is hooked up to my TCL 55R625 via HDMI Arc. Any suggestions??
If you are trying to play 5.1 or Dolby videos from RUclips, you wouldn't hear the rear sound cause RUclips doesn't support 5.1 or Dolby encoding. Try to play the Dolby test video from their site, I believe you gotta play that video on Edge browser cause Chrome or Firefox doesn't support Dolby Atmos encoding. Or you could play a 5.1 movie on Netflix or other streaming site.

Hi, I just purchased the Samsung HW K850 Soundbar,(as I wanted to replace my Panasonic home cinema surround system, the usual too much wires). I was extremely disappointed with the soundbar, the sound was underwhelming to say the least (and it was a very pricey purchase). It now looks like I need to get a couple of Samsung 360 speakers to get a more surround sound. Can you tell me are those rear speakers compatible with the HW K850? Thanks in advance. (TIP* If your thinking of replacing your home cinema multi speaker system to a soundbar, think twice, but that's just based on my own personal experience).
Yes there is a convenience factor that a sound bar provides that makes live easier. I agree a true sound system setup will always sound amazing. I looked up in the instructions if the K850 is compatible model and it wasn't listed. They also have the swa-9000s speakers but I'm not completely sure they will work either. I didn't dig too deep on Google... Maybe reach out to Samsung?

So today I visited three different electrical stores. In one I purchased the Samsung SWA-9000S/XU rear speakers (at a cost of €300). I got it home and proceeded to try to set it up with my soundbar (included with the rear speakers was a dongle connection to be plugged into the soundbar), the HW K850 does not have a connection to allow this (so bang goes that attempt).Luckily enough the store I bought them in (which was the same store I bought the soundbar in) told me if they didn't work I could return them (we will see how generous they will be).
While the SWA-8500 you've reviewed for us doesn't seem to come with a dongle I assumed that might work with the K850. Based on your advise I did go to a Samsung customer forum and saw a thread created by someone with exactly the same problem as mine. Ultimately a lot of people tried to offer advice, but it seems to be coming back to the fact that there are no Samsung rear speakers compatible with the K850. For the price you pay for the soundbar (€850) that really is serious disappointment.
If I had known that I would've had this problem I would have paid that bit more for the K950, considering it comes with rear speakers (hence the extra cost). As it stands, the K850 is top of the range from Samsung , bar the K950. Considering all the time, effort and money I've now spent try to find rear speakers for the K850 (and yet not being able to find them), I would've been better off paying the extra for the K950. Right now the K850 feels like a bum deal for the price I paid.
I will contact Samsung customer support tomorrow with a view to trying to find out if there are any rear speakers (or plans for the same) that would be compatible with the K850.

Yeah, let all of us know. I've got the LG SH7B -- which sounds awesome -- I was surprised to say least. Had a sound system from years back, and (for the price) it was really, really impressive. Put it in my wife's room. Now, I want to get the rear ones like above from BestBuy. Hope it works. But, LG has no output, but I hope the wirelesss or bluetooth will share the signal and let the rear speakers connect somehow. I know you said you paid dearly on those, but LG's was quite nice price at Costco. Never had soundbar but I am QUITE IMPRESSED with how much sound and fullness. It's 360W and 4.1, so it's TOO LOUD if you turn it all way up. 70% was enough for incredible volume in her room. Anyway, thanks all of you for sharing & helping.

I was upset when I pair this kit with my WH-M450 and found out that the Soundbar does not output true surround. It just gives a simulated surround effect.
The Soundbar accepts and decodes DTS signals via optical from my HTPC however it cannot properly process the channels rherefore watching dts movies produce somewhat muffled vocals and overpowering music leaving the user to always have the remote on standby to manually adjust volumes throughout the movies

Thanks for showing this to us. I just got a LG soundbar from Costco, and I wanted to add some rear speakers. This looks easy and hope it works with LG too. I was QUITE IMPRESSED with the LG soundbar (LG SH7B) -- very, very, very impressive. Love it. Hooked it up and had to, JUST HAD TO, watch a movie with it. Saw Extinction on Netflix and sound was spectacular. Can't wait to see what these Samsung rear speakers can do. Again, thank you ...
They are compatible with only a few samsung soundbars. Not on others. Please do some research before buying them for ur LG soundbar.

I agree. When recording this video, the camera mic picked up the extra sound more distinctly when they were facing directly at the camera. When they were behind or on the side of the camera, it would not pick up the sound all that great. Couldn't really hear any difference.

Maybe you need another mic or maybe use something like a phone which has a microphone on the top and bottom and have either mic facing either direction for that stereo sound.
My galaxy s7 does stereo recording really well and that's just a phone.
either way I still bought these speakers and they're pretty fuckin great.

I actually wanted these speakers as side speakers instead of rear, have you tried watching movies with them as side speakers? Would like to know how it sounded having them up front.
I have these mounted on the wall directly against the back of my couch facing me from either side and I like them. Music sounds amazing. Movies and TV shows that are made with good surround to begin with sound good as well. They are not super loud but can be slightly bumped up through the soundbar’s menu

Sure there's an add spkr button on the rear to pair. If not, try powering off bar, hold vol button down on remote for 5secs then I'd set should appear o on display, power on bar.
According to Samsung's website, supposedly I can use these surround speakers with the Samsung | Harman/Kardon HW-Q60R soundbar. I like my soundbar a lot but my living room is pretty large and open w/ 12ft ceilings. The HW-Q60R has no problem painting the seating area around my TV with sound but has some difficulty filling the entire room. I think these could be the answer.

the subwoofers are boss.... but them back ground speakers weak as water its like not having nothing if i knew they were this weak i would not have brought it.

Yeah, that's why I watched it. Seems easy enough, probably. But just hope different companies -- like LG and Samsung ... in my case -- will play nice together.
Turn sound bar off. Theres a button on the back of the rear speaker amp, hold it till the light flashes. Hold mute on s/b remote till ID set pops up. Rear speaker led should go solid. Then power on sb
