That look that Christopher has when Adriana tells her that she's been talking to the FBI is heartbreaking. She has no idea that she's sealing her fate right then and there, but Christopher knows exactly what has to happen. Michael Imperioli is an incredible actor.

University was my favorite episode. Ralphie’s cold blooded murder of the stripper, and the way that she was mistreated by Ralph, Tony, and Silvio juxtaposed against Meadow being completely spoiled was really powerful. It made the show really hit home with a reminder that these guys were hurting people all the time and weren’t good people
Literally the purpose of that episode as Chase realised people were starting to hero worship these guys.
The college episode was my complete favorite

That was so good about it too. It was the fact that Tracey could have easily been Meadow's friend or in a different Meadow could have been Tracey.
Note: the actress who played Tracey said that after this episode aired it cause many people to cancel their HBO subscription.

Hugh Laurie in 'House' ranks up there too, especially near the end. A phenomenal dramatic performance for a comedic actor.
You really realize what a good character Tony is when Tony is in the coma and there's that whole other plot line of Kevin Finnerty. It blew my mind how James Gandolfini could jump back and forth like that to two totally different versions of the same character.

Having close enough relatives that were in Adriana's position and walked with minimal time and air still in their lungs, to this day, that's kinda the way the chess game is played! True story. Enough detail & said, either believe or don't.....
Not to be argumentative but Adriana had a serious drug problem that included shooting up more than one type of dope, she KNEW that both her boyfriend and his family were connected.
No matter how sweet she may have been, she was hardly naive.

As far as her surviving; the Feds gave her little time to bring Christopher in.
Keep in mind that it was Christopher that they wanted, ( it was actually Anthony John Soprano but...) not Adriana.
They foolishly tried to use the threat of a murder charge for her as leverage to force her to try to get Christopher to flip

+John Smith Funny that you mention the russian (like every fan of the show does). I read in an interview with David Chase somewhere that the Russian got saved by some boy scouts and brought to hospital or something. Chase left it out of the show cause he wanted to leave it up to the viewer on what happened, sorta like the finale ending. You'll have to look it up its interesting stuff.
I was hoping the Russian guy would come back later on the series and confront Paulie about that remote..

this episode blew my mind. Tony's relationship with Carmela is the core of this damn show
7:20 Silvio Dante almost convinces himself the he and Adriana are just "going to see Chris". This was a great bit of acting from someone who doesn't consider himself an actor.
He was my favorite guy. Showed no emotion when killing someone always composed never out of order and by far best dressed. Oh and did a great job keeping things calm while tony was in the coma and he was in charge. Hate that he got shot he was awesome

Just finished watching the series now (Covid-19 quarantine marathon), loved it as much as Breaking Bad, Avatar, and some Anime shows. Gonna miss the show a lot. Planned on watching this since I heard about Gandolfini's passing, but kept delaying it since I was preoccupied with a lot of stuff.
I forgot how strong a performance Carm had in the break-up episode.

My top 3 are Dexter, The Soprano's, and Breaking Bad. Breaking Bad was awesome and I have it just barely beaten by The Soprano's. There were a lot of slow, dull episodes of The Soprano's. Dexter is by far my all time favorite show. My father and both brothers agree with me on this top three. That's our opinions anyway.

This is hands down the best show in television history. Started the trend of drama tv shows.
Whitecaps gave me chills. I was in my 20s and single at the time and Carmela made me understand EXACTLY what she was feeling. Her affair (in her mind) with Furio. How he made her feel. How she was literally, physically sick when he disappeared. Their almost romance gave me ALL the feels.
_Employee of the Month,_ hands down, my favorite. The rape of Dr. Melfi, the accused getting off free due to a technicality, Jennifer's realization that she could have Tony avenge her if she so chose and then chooses not to is a phenomenal story.
It was a bit of a jumping the shark episode.

@@DLites151 I think the point was just to show her dilemma with regard to wanting to use Tony to avenge her attack but choosing not to. I liked that plot because it's something that a lot of people would grapple with no matter how moral they are.

I watched the entire series twice this year. I was missing it after the first watch within a month and watched it all again and just finished it last week. How many times i have watched in total though, well i would say almost 20 times total.

The family dynamic between carm and Tony was the best written and acted part of the show.
The Sopranos... A revolutionary show that set a high bar for TV. Phenomenal writing and possibly the most watchable cast of all time.
I was assuming 'Pine Barrens' would get the top spot, and it's a great episode, but as far as emotional impact goes, I would have chosen 'Long Term Parking.' Adriana's murder was like a kick in the gut and it cast a shadow over Tony and Christopher for the rest of the series.

Best series ever. Sopranos was the pinnacle of the television. Nothing like this will ever happen again. RIP James, we miss you Tony.
I can't think of another TV series where it was perfect casting, everyone. It slotted into place perfectly. The best.
Of course Pine Barrens is always considered the best episode but... I remember watching Employee of the Month for the first time and wow !!! that was intense !! And yes, at the same time you want Dr Melfi to ask Tony to... take care of the rapist, but you also know that it would be inequivocably bad !... I love this complex show.

potential to be a loose cannon, and with Adrianna dead, anything detrimental to

decision. Moments like this are common. I remember feeling relieved after
giving away a cd that someone made for me. A lot of bad vibes seemed to leave
once the cd was gone.

I started watching this series and just couldn't stop! The very best TV series of all times showing the characters in more than one dimension. Which is what most shows about the Mob usually shows.

From where To eternity is for me a pretty much overlooked gem. Chrissy brings the message from hell that sends Tony and Paulie to question the fate of their souls. And the scene Paulie goes to church to complain because his donations are not buying him immunity is so fun.
The acting in white caps, the fight, was out of this world! Falco was brilliant, u really believed how sad and angry she was
this is the best show ever made, period. the walking dead and game of thrones still cant touch the amazing quality and acting of this show. every single actor in this show fits their role perfect. i've never in my life seen more convincing and believable characters.

As a fan of both BB and The Sopranos, what David Chase and co did was and is still unmatched. It's the quintessential long-story antihero benchmark, BB and Mad Men would not have been possible without the DiMeo family (real life Decavalcante family) from North Jersey.

This was definitely one of the most enjoyable WatchMojo lists, reminded me of the emotional rollercoaster of what was possibly the greatest TV drama I've ever seen. I would have rated Long Term Parking higher 'cause Adrianna's death (and the lead-up) was so instense, I wouldn't have rated the Christopher & Paulie getting lost episode as number one, and my last criticism is that they didn't list the episode in which Christopher goes to Hollywood and makes Sir Ben Kingsley really uncomfortable.

+Daskaar Remember seeing him for the first time in a small role as a hitman in "True Romance". Great film with great actors and some really unforgettable lines and scenes - and even there Gandolfini managed to steal his scene!
Ever see the movie Angie with Geena Davis? It came out in 1994 and James played her boyfriend plus Aida Turturro played her best friend.
Season 2 was The Sopranos’ best season in my opinion. It’s so hard to rank them though. A lot of people say 4 is the worst but I personally think 6A is their weakest season despite it having a strong start with the first 2-3 episodes. Vito’s plot was interesting but was one of the weaker narratives in the show and the overall writing in 6A felt watered down, and it really just fizzled out by the season finale. They recovered in 6B though which is up there when debating the best season in the show.
There wasn't a bad season but I reply to say I thought the show came together in that second year, when Janice, Bobby, and Dr. Kupferberg rounded out the cast of characters.
@@jimlaregina To me, the first 3 seasons scored an A+ grade and the last 3 seasons scored an A- grade. But this show was off the charts great!
I watched the entire series over the course of a few months back in 2008. Whenever I'd think about the show over the past few years, the only episode that I'd remember vividly is the one that was selected as number 1 in this list. My wife and I were rolling with laughter watching Paulie and Christopher wander around the woods in the middle of winter. What a great show, a masterpiece even!!

Breaking Bad is better,people hate to admit it because sopranos was the top dog,then breaking bad came along and quite simply was superior to it
Breaking Bad is awesome but The Sopranos is WAY more visceral. It has more characters who has more interesting stories, Tony's enemies: Ritchie Aprile, Ralph Cipharetto, Phil Leottardo, his own uncle Jr. etc. Even the secondary characters are genuine like Christopher who was a pain in the ass but a eternal incomfort employee of Tony, just like Paulie who often felt ignored. Even the tertiary characters like Artie as the pathetic childhood friend of Tony (everyone has a friend like that), the man he hang himself in Season 5, Vito's homosexuality that was simply out of the mafia cannons putting Tony in a dilemma. Breaking Bad has a fine set of characters but there a are few really interesting characters like Walt, Jessie, Hank, Skyler, Marie, Gus Fringe, Mike Ermanthraut, Saul Goodman, Salamanca Dinasty but I can't say the same of Gale Botticher, Victor, Steve Gomez even he's my paisa, countryman; Lydia Rodart, the only interesting with her is that she was a facilitator, same with Jessie's two girlfriends, Jane as a rotten apple and Andrea as rotten (drugs). See? Breaking Bad screenplay is excellent, thrilling. The Sopranos has a peculiar formula in every episode: 2 main plots of the progress of the storyline & 2 secondary plots to balance with dark humor or pure entertainment. Both show have the BEST CHARACTER PROFILES but the BEST CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT goes to The Sopranos, we watch Tony's decay, Meadow's independence, Carmela's codependence, Anthony Jr.'s wanna be to philosophy but still in diapers, Christopher hating Tony, every time more, Paulie also with mixed feelings, Furio so disgusted working for him so he flee, Dr. Melfi every time more sceptic about Tony's improvement. In Breaking Bad, the most interesting developments are 3: Walt's breaking bad, every time more obscure, maquiavelic, mastermind. Jesse's highs & lows 'cause his addiction and mixed feelings with Walt; and Skyler's emancipation of Walt's expectations on her, she no longer takes the scam and PUM She fucked Ted. A little conventional affair based in revenge instead of Carmela's affair with AJ's teacher. Even if she mentions Madame Bovary is a boring book and nothing erotic at all, the irony is she is just like Madame Bovary 'cause she questions the action itself, her behavior, her intentions, his intentions, everything is more complex than just spreading her legs. In other episode, Carmela again misinterpret a book when she and Tony are visiting their daughter Meadow. Carmela is so phony that she implies the protagonist of the book she read is not gay, he can't be gay 'cause of her catholic values which are questionable already, the serie often aimed to mirror the hipocrisy of characters. The ending in Breaking Bad is more satisfactory, epic but today is just that, a good previsible ending. The Sopranos ending has been analysed several times until nowadays, more original, different, unexpected, unsettling so you were focused in every detail to have a shred of information that the episode wasn't giving you. Everyone has their theories, Did Tony get whacked? Did he ended his meal peacefully but later did he end up handcuffed? One thing true is that we definitely got whacked!!!

I just started to (re)watch the show and it's best show ever. Every episode is well-written and well-acted, and it's impossible to stop watching it. This show should be treasured, it's gold!

I just watched Kennedy and Heidi, wow, the performances are mind blowing and the build up to the chapter was also exquisit, what a great show.
How the hell did “The Strong, Silent Type” not make the list? Christopher’s intervention is one of the best scenes in the entire series. Also, “From Where to Eternity” when Paulie visits the psychic & throws a chair at the spirits another great episode.
Almost nobody considers Season 4 to be the best season of the show.

"Walk Like a Man" would have been on my list. The episode acts as a prelude for Chris's death episode "Kennedy and Heidi". I never see anyone talking about “Mayham”. The episode where Tony comes out of his coma. The artistic visualization of purgatory and Meadows voice waking him up makes me cry every time. That and this episode has the funniest moment where Paulie somehow makes Tony have a heartattack while he’s in a coma 💀
Best series so far in my opinion. I can watch this show countless times over and over and never get bored. Love it!

+Ian Lcokwood Breaking Bad is several levels under the Sopranos. The Sopranos and The Wire are by far the two best shows of all time. Mad Men a close 3rd place. I didn't watch Game of Thrones tho, but many people glorify it.

I still consider The Sopranos the greatest TV show ever. Nothing has matched its combination of social and psychological investigation, brave and consistent characterization, great acting, fantastic dialogue, ambitious and constantly evolving storytelling, its blend of humor and morose and great production values. Nevermind how the show changed the path of television and influenced almost every acclaimed show that came after it. However, some of this video is a lil off. Like, very few fans think season four is the best. Many think it's the weakest. I like it very much though. Has a lot of re-watch value. But very few consider it the best. Also, the list left a bit to be desired and it's too heavy with late episodes. But the show really does have more good to great episodes than any other series ever. My top ten: 1. Funhouse 2. Everything you said is correct. Season 1 finale is top 3...so is Long term parking....but Heidi and Kennedy should definitely be top 10...that episode was so eerie and nihilistic, and showed Tony and Christopher for what they were.
And Irregular around the Margins was an insanely great episode....can't believe they missed that.
The list was too heavy on the late seasons and you're right most ppl consider season 4 one of the weaker seasons....it got a little soap opera ish. 4 and the first half of 6 were the two weakest seasons.....the second half of 6 was excellent though.
And yes, the Sopranos was the first great series and basically made the formula for the Breaking Bads and others after it, they had the best writers, and directors in the business.

Absolutely. The scene at the end where Janice asks Tony "what'd you do with him?", and he tells her we "buried him in the woods, by a stream, with pine cones all around" and has her believing him for a moment was pure gold.
My favorite TV drama series ever. I live in Essex County, loved all the local references and scenes. A favorite scene when Carm tells Tony about her love of Furio.

The soprano's isn't "one of the best shows ever" .. it's hands down the best fucking show ever created. Only Game of Thrones comes close ... shows like breaking bad etc are nice .. but The Sopranos is a whole other league.
