What I love about your channel is that you focus on new promising apps and not just the ones we all know like Obsidian, Notion etc. This is interesting because I always try to discover new solutions and expand my workflow by taking the best from each software and try to combine them..cause unfortunately! The perfect app doesn't exist!
Two questions Shu… 1. Does it use markdown, or will users be ‘trapped’ within the Tana infrastructure? 2. How about Output? Having an outliner is great but the useability, for most people depends on being able to output to blogs, websites and/or pdf. How do you get your writing/articles out? Thanks in advance. Mick.
Great review. I am a avid Notion user and really liked Tana. I tried logseq and obsidian but give up because I need databases for my workflow. I tried Capacities and its very promissing. Can’t wait to receive my Tana invitation!
Thanks for the review. For future app reviews: do you mind including how well you can navigate through the app by using the keyboard only. As far as I know Roam is the only app that allows the user to navigate by only using the keyboard. To me, that is a dealbreaker, since it speeds up the workflow tremendously, and saves your wrist/hand so you don't hurt. Thank you 🎹😃
Checkvist does this also. And does it well, but its primarily an outliner and doesnt quite have all the link features Roam has, but has other strengths that might fit someones needs.
I personally use Notion for university studies and TTRPG management, which can be quite cumbersome. It bothers me a lot, that there is a huge performance drain there and I would wish for a better offline support. Also I would wish for self-hosting support, which would improve it from a data security perspective.
What do you use for calendar and task there, Shu? And also do you think Notion would build a feature similar to Tana’s Supertag soon? Cause imagine having that there, and the acquisition of Cron too! Would make Notion super powerful :O
I struggle with note taking so much.. I need a notes app for songwriting that syncs on all my devices (bear doesn't sync well and Evernote is messy) and medical school (where I can take notes on pdfs on my Mac and that is not internet dependent..).. just something easy, ergonomic and nicely designed. I don't mind paying but not too pricy and it needs to get the job done. why is it so hard to find ? I still use the original notes app to this day, it's not the best but its certainly the best amongst everything iv'e tried at least for songwriting :/
Obsidian is far more flexible with panels, tabs and windows but Tana is better than most others. Thanks for the overview. As someone testing out Tana at the moment it is interesting but I don't see it replacing my Obsidian use.
Thank you for explaining this so well. What would you recommend for digital planning for me? I have 3 or 4 projects at a time and tasks within projects. I like to see all projects and tasks on one page initially to assess what I should do for the day. Then I like to prioritize and have to do lists. Possibly also link word documents to the tasks. Is this the sort of thing that an online tool could help with?
I really like your review on note-apps also your way to introduce the app, which really is engaging. After I saw your review on tana, I soon become the fan of the app after check other reviews on this, especially after using obsidian, logseq, notion, and roam. Do you still have the invite of tana? Queue on waiting list takes so long...
people have been waiting for access for about a month and very few people have gotten access. Not sure its coming any time soon. Not sure the team can cope with the level of interest - predicting it will crash and burn within 6 months unless they open up more invites soon.
Ty shu... I get irritated by the fact that new things come out and therefore I get shiny object syndrome. But I feel this is q very good product and I can already see how I would use it. My issue is how much it would cost and can it be used offline like logseq.
Idk how it is different from Notion. The super tag is just another database. The only difference is you can amend the property without clicking into the page /node
Yeah, I would consider to drop Notion for Tana, but like its said on video, for most Notion users would be a overkill. For power users who loves to build complicated systems its awesome.
How many folks here waste more time looking at, trying, lusting after new amazing tools, rather than knuckling down and getting on with it with the last one they loved? I'm back to Roam, despite the hipsters deserting it...
I am using notion for medical notes. I have lots of screenshots/pictures of lecture then I write my own notes under the screenshot. This is making notion very laggy and slow to load. Is it better in Tana? Does anyone else have this issue and can suggest a fix? Thanks
Hardly anyone is using this app. It needs to be looked at but many people are not willing to take out a monthly sub for PKM so obsidian/logseq are here to stay. I've noticed there are a lot of content creators hoping to get views. 100k shu, it obviously worked compared with the last 30 videos.
May anyone help me with an invite if you are an existing user? Many thanks in advance. I have seen more than dozens of tutorials but still stuck on the waiting list. 😅
Its not useful for long form writing. i.e. more than a single paragraph. Has no markdown. Interface is busy, busy, busy. Its overkill for me. Its trying to be all things to all people, and not best at anything. Its an overly complex database tool when compared to Notion. It cannot do markdown formatted long form writing And it is an over complex to-do app ... without a mobile app. Will stick to Roam for now ... and switch to something Roam-like, when it eventually dies ..
Hi Shu, quick question: can you use the exact same video ( the graphic contents ) but just add Japanese subtitle + voiceover in another Channel. Will youtube flag it? Congrats on the new channel launched🎉
FFS! These "productivity" RUclipsrs need to be stopped from hyping apps or services as the next big thing. I'm positive these RUclipsrs DO NOT USE these products after a couple of months and go for the next shiny thing. Sorry, Shu Omi, I'm just annoyed and irritated with these hype videos. Yeah paying for a productivity app is absolutely ridiculous when there’s so many great options that are 100% free.
The closest app is Anytype, which is free and open source, but still in alpha. It is unbelievable.
Anytype is 100% offline with local backup. Even at alpha it's superb already. Plugins and opensource also in future. Anytype is greatness in making
