    I believe this saints life wss a great inspiration to Dostoyevski. In karamozov
    The elder monk is named as
    Zosimos who in passing refers to Saint Mary of Egypt and recommends reading her life.
    In crime and punishment, the heroine goes to work
    in the streets to save her starving family . The irony
    is so typicalky Dostoevski.
    Of course it was Mary Queen of Heaven who
    saves and inspires This Mary of Egypt.
    Thank you for your well done video. My kindness and blessings to you.

      The Idiot as well.
      Remember what Aloysha said in
      the last chapter , " let us first , and above all else, be kind."
      Yes it is pleasent to find a friend
      who admires Dostoyevski.

    Ok non skeptical protestant here who is learning all about the wonders of Orthodoxy - if there are any reason outside of tradition we can know these kinds of stories are true, what are they?
    I’m perfectly happy to accept tradition but it can be hard to escape my Western worldview of “proof”😅

    • @Peginafication
      @Peginafication Год назад +5

      Hey Brother/sister in Christ. I don't have proof for you but I have some "evidence" or logic that you can consider: 1) Believers in Christ are generally not given to lies at the best of times, but arguably less so when it comes to spiritual/religious matters. No Christian worth their salt would lie in service to God/ to spread the word as they would know very well that service would be rejected or even considered an abomination. 2) if we shall "know them by their fruits" then we can safely say that a story like this is from God via holy people. No evil person/s would lie to knowingly put God/his people in a good light, leading people to the truth.
      As I said, it's not proof but logically there is no good reason for either good or evil people to make up this kind of story or even parts of it. Probably not what you were looking for but just my 2 cents.
      God bless you

    • @Peginafication

      Sorry, in the spirit of honesty, it occurred to me that there is one group of people I didn't consider: people who neither serve God or the devil, but just love to create a good story. Seems unlikely to me as there are other subjects and surely they would want some credit for creating a story like that, but still worth mentioning/considering!

    • @lindaphillips4646

      The traditions in the Orthodox Church are very important. (Some are with capital T, others with lowercase. It is easy for others like prtnsts to dismiss it. Although questions are perfectly acceptable. (I was a prtnst.)
      I am actually answering you on her April 1st Feast Day. (Gregorian calendar. Julian feast day will be in 13 days. )
      One of the wonderful services during Great Lent (which the Orthodox Church is still in), is a service in the 5th week when the Great Canon (of repentance) of St. Andrew of Crete is read as well as the Life of St. Mary of Egypt. St. Sophronius, the Patriarch of Jerusalem, visited the monastery where St. Zosimas had lived, and heard the story about his meeting St. Mary which the monks had treasured and handed down. St. Sophronius wrote the story in full assurance that it was true and that he must reveal it to the world..
      It is possible to order copies of the story..
      All Orthodox churches will have that service, so you may be able to find one and hear the story read aloud.. in 2 parts. A long service. But wonderful..
      I am not sure i answered your question, but this is what i thought of to say.

    • @HomoEucharistica
      @HomoEucharistica 4 месяца назад +1

      As a matter of fact, without tradition there wouldn't have been any "proof" that Jesus of Nazareth ever existed in the first place, and without tradition there would've not been much to write in the Gospel and in the epistles - unless Holy Spirit dictated (dictated, not inspirited), word by word, what they needed to write... And what evidence did the Apostles offer beside their eyewitness testimonies, or those who told about the miracles of the Apostles they saw or even experienced personally?
      In Western Protestant worldview, it seems that the world history has two epochs: "Biblical age" (from creation to the trial of Paul or the exile of John basically), and "post-Biblical age". In Orthodox thinking, we are still living in the direct continuum of Biblical age. All "wonders of Orthodoxy" could have happened in the Bible, so we do not see why they couldn't happen in these days too. We have dozens eyewitnesses of the most recent saints' miracles who are still alive, and that was usually the case also in the past - the only difference is that we have social media and photographers and they didn't.

      @@Peginaficationyour two cents are PURE GOLD! YOU NAILED IT
      I have often thought that there is no reason to lie about such things. The demons surely don't want God or His saints to be honored. Every heresy actually diminishes the Truth of the Faith.
      Anyway, GOOD WORK here!
