For mastering.... you NEED to ignore all the little squiggles! It doesn't know what your music is made of. That bump at 40Hz is likely the fundamental of your kick, and if you level it out, you are killing whatever makes your kick what it is. Best to just look at the recommended curve, and then use fewer bands of nice sounding EQ to get it roughly level. Don't worry about the small stuff.
But the bump on the mastering assistant means it’s lacking in the mix… that bump is what it’s adding to make it “mastered.” I couldn’t get it to budge, which makes me wonder about what’s under the hood.
I'd like to suggest bringing your overall mix level down to -6db peaking, right now you are peaking at -1db just on the Smash Kit (and you're peaking in the red on your Master bus meters) and leaving no headroom for mastering... I'm actually kind of amazed that there is not a ton of clipping/distortion happening... Your loudest elements should be peaking at around -12db individually and that should land you right around -6d overall on the Master bus... I have never used the Mastering Assistant, but I assume much like real-world mastering engineers it is going to want some headroom to work with to give the best results...
Yeah, I’m still sorting out what it prefers, but even the manual indicates more headroom is needed. I was trying to emulate what the average user might put into it, which is definitely higher. Also, for being an “assistant” you’d think it would mention too high of an input. Having the peak hit high isn’t probably an issue given all of the tools in the assistant… but having content with a wider dynamic range could make some drastic differences. More to explore for sure.
It's actually kinda loud, he's peaking at -1 db, I would keep my mixdown around -6 db for mastering, leave your mastering engineer some headroom to work with, THEY will make it loud.
More edgy?? You mean muddy? There’s nothing edgy about the original. I’m not saying that the mastering assistant is the best mastering option, but it definitely moved it in the right direction.

@@CreativeAudioQuest - I definitely look forward to hearing the finished product, it sounds good so far and it's very unique
You’re mixing sound so quiet🙂

@@RealSiViX oh, understandable, and thank you for the heads up I will try to do that more often🙂
The original sounded more edgy…. Meh
