A lot of love for the 997.1 and .2. The turbos in these models will at some point go silly crazy like the 993’s did, they’re classed as classics already, yes we are that old 😂 great vid, thank you.
@@Andy5c X-Codes are exclusive options you can fit your Porsche with. Mine for example has every trim piece made out of carbon, everything is leather, all contrast stitching is guards red, the speedo dials are guards red too etc etc. It even has a mechanical diff and spacer from factory
Had a 997.1 Turbo before, gorgeous car but I didn’t get on with the awd. Drive one before you commit. Recently got a manual buckets 991.2 GT3 and I absolutely love it. It’s a keeper!
i bought a 996 C4S Cabriolet recently. It's the newest 911 with the broad fat rear reflector bar look like that of the 993, 964 and G Series. For those who want that big fat rear light bar look, 996 C4S is also the only one with frameless doors. I completely covered the huge indicator lights, drilled a hole on the side of the rear tail lamp, and move the indicator bulbs down to emphasise the fat rear light bar look. Just did a 6,000km run-in to thailand's legendary Mae Hong Son loop with 4,088 corners with the car, after an engine rebuild that fixes the bore scoring and replacing the IMS with European Parts design.
The 718 GTS 4.0 is the best sports car Porsche currently makes - handling, fun, daily, perfect size for UK roads, power you can exploit, gem of a N/A engine you can't get in modern 911's unless its a track GT. If you need to scratch the 911 itch you must,. I've enjoyed five (993, 997's, Turbo S etc), now have a GTS 4.0 Boxster which looks better than 911 Cab & drives better than most 911's.
997.1 Turbo MT for me. Incredible amount of car for the £££. There are only 6 for sale on Autotrader. So seemingly getting rarer and rarer. I also get the feeling the Turbo badge meant a bit more on the 997.1 than on subsequent 911 iterations. The proliferation of the GT cars have perhaps cast a little bit of a shadow on the Turbo named models.
This video is one I always look forward to at the end of each year. Thanks, Lee…! With new (base) 911 Porsches pushing $150K (USD) there are plenty of great pre-owned options in the under $50K range. Next year consider adding a fourth category…under $25K, just to see what the experts think?
A lot of good answers there but the Taycan isn’t going to stop going down anytime soon. In 10 years the battery will be shot and a replacement will probably write the car off
In the US the Porsche market is very inflated at the moment. A local dealership has a new Cayman GTS 4.0 marked up 20k over MSRP and would not budge on price. So I went and bought a 2007 997 Carrera 4 with cash and plan to drive it until the wheels fall off. Or until it developed bore scoring…
I have a 997 c2s gen 1 manual in fantastic condition and a lot of work done to it, and I love it. Yes, the turbo is insanely quick but for our roads, honestly I don't know why you'd bother... For the track, a Cayman S track prepared gen 2 and you'll have more fun than many other more expensive cars...
I’m seriously considering a 997.1 3.8 . Only one that’s had a full rebuild however . I think the .1 look better and sound better than the .2 . I love the lobster claw wheels too .
Hi pal steel liners will not work on open deck blocks I have seen some good attempts and some poor attempts and a lot claim too be done by top builders ( but no proof)

Even in the US 981GTS with a Manual is extremely rare. Currently there are only 4 listed for sale across the US with a manual and all are black or silver, except for one in Carmine Red. Not surprising as the 981 GTS had lower production numbers than the 981 GT4. @15:50
I had a manual 981CGTS, ordered from new in 2016. Sold it in 2018 to make way for a 991.2GT3 manual (ofc). I love the GT3 to bits, but man, I miss the 981 a lot, the realxed handling, the size, the sound!!!
i believe 991.2 carrera T will increase in price in the following years. fewer made than gt3 and not just a stripped down carrera like some people say ;)
Why do you never mention base models. My base 997.2 is about the same performance as the 997.1s. But it is a much better car with the DFI engine, interior and suspension upgrades. The main point is the engine does not suffer from the .1 problems and is considerably more economical. I can get 60 mpg in a motorway cruise.
Gen 1 does not have ims it's bore score it's in all engines and eventually will show up the gen two are getting on a bit now all over 12 years now and are suffering from things . I have a gen 1 997 4s and did the full lee Jenkins experience on all cylinders and it's the best way look for a car that needs a rebuild on a good price lots of hard graft but otherwise you will be in the mid 40s with something that will need work eventually overtime the all need shocks and and some coolant pipes. But a 4s is a cool drive .and there is lots of cars out there claiming the have had a rebuild don't touch a engine with steel liners on the rebuild I have had a failed rebuild good luck from Paisley
it's crazy how low your local market is low compared to France (thanks to our great ecological taxes...). Here you can add 25K to most of the prices I heard in this video for the same models...lucky you!
As mundane a thought as it is, does some thought have to be given to the Euro rating of cars and thus their viability / usability with regards paying 'pollution' charges when travelling through the UK and Europe? As the moment, the 991 and 992 range which is Euro 6 is free of this charge.
Great video this. Really some advice, what would you go for out of these 3? Taycan 4s, 911 991.1 4s, 99.1.2 4s, or a Panamera 4 e hybrid, finally a 992 2s. What would people go for? Budget is around £50k- 65k
I'd probably go for the 991.1 C4S personally. For the budget you should be able to pick up a really nice example with a full Porsche OPC/specialist service hist and with a reasonably low mileage. You'll probably be comfortably under budget too.
@@niall3973 appreciate the advice. I really like the 991.4s, what colour would you go for? Also they look amazing with certain alloys, like a spoke design.

I wouldn’t heat up new buyers for speculating with Porsches. They all will burn money, especially with all „new“ standard Porsche‘s such as 991 (especially with PDK) or 997 (even GT’s) or all Caymans. In a few years these are just „old“ ICE-cars as millions out there. If, THEN a real classic oil-cooled, manual shifted Porsche not later then 1998.
Great vid. The Taycan recommendation is absurd. They can absolutely drop more.
One only needs to look at the Panamera depreciation curve. Or any car in the same category.
Agree. The Taycan is a maintenance time bomb. Buyers are smart enough to know that. Once they are off warranty they will fall to nothing.
I wouldn’t buy any electric cars. They are a one time use and disposable after the warranty expires. Hell no!
They 💯 still are
