So good used working condition imac 2015 5k 27” i7 with good screen is 500$ but a new screen for my imac (same spec as mentioned before) is 500$ … kinda lame situation

Great video. The only thing that you left out was moving the thermal sensor and LVDS cable to the new display as these items are not included with new displays.

Also at that point why not clean out the dust and do a SSD upgrade

Also very aggressive with the removal tool, Roller tool is much better but not as good as what I use!

And do "every upgrade" possible? Nobody is going to want to do this twice. My shabby hat is off to these guys.

What if only the glass is broken, can you replace just the glass?

    • @hastingb

No they are bonded together and you cannot purchase them separately

The displays are virtually identical from what I've seen but that doesn't necessarily mean they are swappable. The process of replacing them is the same though.

@@hastingb i wonder if there’s a way to remove the glass from the screen because I just need to replace the glass not the entire screen.

@@NomadicBloke1 No. You can send them to China to get them done but the ones I've seen aren't too clever. You need to be able to melt the adhesive holding the LCD panel to the front glass even if you could find a source for the glass.

Couple of points in addition to being very aggressive with the blade...1) the second connector you pulled off - shouldn't you tell people to squeeze the two sides as you pull it off? It doesn't just pull off. 2) Instead of cutting the bottom adhesive, you can just pull the two tabs on the bottom corners of the adhesive slowly towards the bottom center from each side and the adhesive will come off. 3) when reinstalling the adhesive strips, you put the adhesive on the top and two sides of the case first, but you put it on the bottom of the display assembly - not the case.

Well, there is no way in the world that thick opening tool in the video can cut through the adhesive just like that... it will destroy the glass at first point of contact. The glass clearly looks like already separated from the iMac body in the video. Looks just like an act. The only tool, which cuts through the adhesive tape from inside, is the iFixit wheel iMac opening tool.

you can use a screen disassembly tool, this is the thinnest blade available to safely separate iMac screen. Link in the description below

Says someone who knows nothing about iMacs. The iSesamo is similar, readily available and does the same job.
