When I was deployed to Bosnia they came and played for us in a very small gymnasium at camp eagle. In front of a crowd of about 200 in December of 1999. It was really cool to hear them and meet them. It kind of felt like a small piece of home. Their plane almost crashed when they left because our airfield was extremely icey. So glad they didn't. But in a time when they were selling out much bigger shows. They took the time to see us and I always appreciated that.

Seasons by Chris Cornell: FFCCCF (It’s open F5 tuning). From standard tuning you tune Low E up to F, A down to F, D down to C, G down to C, B up to C, and E up to F (you could try to tune G up to C, but safety goggles are recommended).
This guy is amazing at teaching guitar, I've been learning for over 20 years and the little tips he offers in between teaching the main lesson shows he knows his business. Such as how to tune with a capo if you don't have a chromatic tuner.
Learning how to play this song when I was kid changed my perspective on music entirely. It opened up my eyes to what can be done on a guitar. I basically never play standard tuning anymore. I love this song.
Yup. I have one of my acoustics tuned there...but I don't take a dozen guitars with me when doing a solo act; so my guitar tuned a step down does quite the similar & nearly unnoticed SAME THING (to many listeners). I had the distinct pleasure of showing Mr. Reznik himself this & he said that's how it started...until his final alt tuning we know today. Nice video, my musical friend🎶🎸
i had a nylon acoustic with a broken peg for the low E, so it couldn't be tuned up without slowly unwinding again, but it kind of kept its tune when looser so i dropped it all the way to A and made it AADGBE which can easily be modified in AADAAD too, but droppuing the E all the way to A kinda only works on nylon with standard gauge and even then it's so loose it handles differently lol
It's a simple fix to not get your B string to break all you have to do is replace it with a high E string problem solved and you can tune a lot of other Goo Goo Dolls songs by replacing the B string with a high e
I learned this song for the hell of it since my wife always listens to 90s alternative. I ended up writing a song of my own, then went higher with the tuning on electric, it ended up being G/A#. I play more noise/post punk/post-hardcore. It’s one of my favorite tunings. I have one guitar for that tuning and now I have 2 songs I wrote with that guitar.
String 1&2 : use two high e from 012&013 set tuned 1 whole step down, string 3&4 : two Ds from the same sets, string 5 : low E tuned 1 step down. And I have no idea how to get the low B.
This song was a pain in the ass. I remember when i was 15 getting into guitar i tried this song, didn't sound that hard but back then the internet resources weren't that developed and found a lot tabs with different information about the tuning, different notes some even used a CAPO... PSA... AS A PROFESSIONAL GUITAR TECH, I would advise only being in this tuning temporarily and with fresh light-gauge (.012" to .053/.054) strings. Keeping your wood acoustic in this tuning for weeks/months at a time, especially as we go from cold/dry weather to warmer/more humid weather could cause wood warping issues that are costly to fix. Remember, with guitars, most issues / damage is caused due to humidity changes. Play on!
You can avoid the issue of the 2nd string breaking by using the high E string from a second set of strings. It'll more easily tune to the D with less tension.
Interesting point of the video with the unusual tuning, but that sound instantly reminds me of wanting to change the radio when this song came on back then.
Did the singer actually “create” this tuning like he says? Or has any other guitarist used this tuning before them? I guess it does seem like the only purpose is to play that one song though lol
Joni Mitchell has over 50 different tunings. Just tune strings to random pitches and move fingers around until you find pleasing chord sounds. Not exactly rocket science.
@ev25zv not rocket science, but when mathematics and physics collide you end you with mucic. Joni was phenomenal. She was playing far above her male older counterparts. The guitarist at the time, gave her the respect she earnt, in a highly male dominant field..
Before accurate tabs or RUclips, I spent an entire evening working this song out in standard so my 2 man acoustic band could play it at our gigs. We only played it once live but I promise that somehow I made it sound exactly like the song lol. It wasn’t until years later I found out it was this crazy tuning. I don’t remember how I played it back then but I do remember there were several guitar gymnastics I had to perform in order to get chords to sound like the real song lol. I remember thinking ‘there is no way the goo goo dolls guy is this much of a freak on guitar!” 😂.
Sometimes I'll tune my classical to CGCGCC, which seems limited in possibilities, but is surprisingly versatile, and goes from dark drone to bright depending on what i do with it.
Nope, Johnny gets the credit for the tuning and Tim didn't contribute acoustic guitars for that track, he played mandolin and lead electric, including solo. He was actually brought just for the mandolin, but he also brought his electric guitar gear, hoping they gonna let his use it, and they did.

alternate tunings are cool. I learned to play The Rain Song [Zeppelin] in the key of G [I know it's in open C] as per a song book. So, i figured out to make the low E and the A both tuned to G, so a double G. It sounds really cool.
