Welcome back my friends, to the show that never ends: The Bayonne Bridgemen. We were grateful to see you come back and are saddened to see you leave us again. Peace to you all for what you accomplished. It made me feel 20 again and really happy...
I really like how they took the focus off of cleanliness and really focus on having fun. years later it’s a lot of fun for me to watch and it was probably even more fun for the performers.
My husband, Bob-Pugsley_McCarthy marched with you in the snare line. Such a highly talented line back then. He's doing great and taught the percussion line at our son's marching band. Our son was a snare drummer as well. They brought alot of High Percussion trophy's home...the apple didn't fall far from the tree. Hope you are doing well.
I miss those days terribly. I graduated from West Chester University (then a state college in PA) marched in the band and taught in the band camp. George Parks was the head of the drum major school and we had a fantastic DCI show on Thursday night that ended the camp. That show was always a big draw because it was traditionally the Thursday night before DIC East in Allentown. Does anyone else remember ?
Man I started tearing up at the end of this video. Must be getting soft. This was one of my favorite Corps. I only got to see them live in 1985 while I was marching Sky Ryders.
An amazing organization that changed drum corps, drum corps staffs, drum corps shows, even drum corps people forever. 1976 when they finished their show at Franklin Field in Philly and fell simultaneously on their backs on the field... drum corps as an activity changed forever. I always find it odd that commentors on RUclips that hate the direction of the activity love the Bridgemen from back then. That was where the direction change took place. Hipness is... to paraphrase Tower of Power - the Bridgemen.
If we can't bring the Bridgemen back, can we at least bring the backfield warm-up back? Those were a little peek into the personality of each corps before they started their show. And you got a sense of the power that was about to be unleashed. I didn't realize I miss them until I saw this clip.
I like how they are now taking advantage of the things you couldn't do back when Drum Corps started. Like stepping over the front line, and speaking on the field while in formation. They were really having fun with the usual non traditional ways that made them the favorites of Drum Corps enthusiasts way back in the 70s.
Bridgemen and Bobby Hoffman changed Drum Corps forever. I'm glad I was there to be a part of the 1970s changes and get to compete against THE BIG BANANAS to our south in Hudson County. Long live the great memories you gave us all!
I'm pleased to know someone other than me feels this way. Drum Corps these days (2024) is unrecognizable to me. I marched bells, and we had to CARRY our instruments. Now, the pit has 20 chromatic percussion instruments all playing the same thing and other clutter. Tympani was CARRIED but occasionally grounded. The Guard spun flags and rifles and didn't fly around like it was a ballet performance for somethin. lets not even get into amplification and bugles no longer being used. I'm not knocking the way things are now, I love Drum Corps as I did when I started marching in 1976. Just pointing out how different it is now and thanks to the Bridgemen, Drum Corps has evolved in many ways to what it is now.
Really nice full sound. I wonder If that soloist is playing a Bridgemen bugle from the 80's? "In the Stone" as a concert piece, just spectacular. I wish they would restart the junior corps.
YES THEY ARE TERRIBLY MISSED THE BRIDGEMAN WERE GREAT THE BANANAS THEY WERE THEY WERE HILARIOUS THEY WERE NEVER TAKING TOTALLY SERIOUSLY BUT MAN DID THEY DID THEY HAVE THE CROWD IN THE PALM OF THEIR HANDS THEY WERE AWESOME I'D LOVE TO SEE HIM COME BACK
Heard one year ( when Bridgemen used to compete in the 1980's ) they played "Yeah Alabama" Wish it was in this show because I've never heard a drum cor do college stuff. Great show either way.
These are awesome artists who are eccentric and fun-loving. They brought life to DCI since the 70's . The saddest thing about Bridgeman leaving is they were different and not apologetic about it. Unique corps is what makes DCI. If everyone were the Cadets DCI wouldn't be here.
the Bridgeman always have been and always be the heart and soul of DCI. Them and the Racine Kilts always brought down the house. Drum Corp today is better in every way compaired to back then except it has no heart and soul. Bring back the Bridgeman and show them the way it was ment to be done. the Flying Bananas in thier pimp uniforms wii always be the best.
It figures.... when I finally get my 'real life' in order where I can go out and march drum corps again (after a 20 year 'break')The Bridgemen call it quits..... Guess I'll have to go to Hawthorne.....
i go to a school that has uniforms inspired by the bridgemen's in fact last year our school band played at Carnegie hall and just recently our jazz band got a chance to go to Colorado
Lake Braddock HS in Burke VA (Fairfax County near DC)in the 70's-80's had identical uniforms with "LB" at the same place as the Bridgemen's. We called them the "Little Bridgemen".
My husband was from Bayonne and marched in the Bayonne Cadets and when he was 12 graduated to the Bayonne Bridgeman as a snare drummer. When it was time for new uniforms, he asked his sister, who worked in the garmet district of NY City, if she could get material inexpensive for new corps uniforms. The best she could find was the yellow material that became the iconic look of the Bayonne Bridgeman. They were one of a kind and had swag like no other corps!!!
It's how Drum Corps should still sound. Snowflakes be dammed. Bridgemen were the bad asses of Jr. Corps in the 70s into the 80s and Skyliners were the bad asses of Sr. Corps. Great years! I loved it

That contra taking kicking the traffic cone to a new level
We we're cheated in 77. And 1978 we we're The Best and will always be the best entertaining corps ever. Snareline..77-78-80.💛

brother was triples john k
I could not love this anymore than I already do!
during the 70's and 80's they were dci's version of animal house :) so sad to see them go.
I miss those days terribly. I graduated from West Chester University (then a state college in PA) marched in the band and taught in the band camp. I remember. I marched with Reading when George was drum major. Played contra bass.
WOW!!!! This brings back sooooo many wonderful memories of DCI if the late 70's-80's. So incredibly entertaining. Thanks a bunch for posting.

The Sky Ryders are a corp that deserves more recognition. I remember them well. Didn't someone try to pirate the name and tradition in Texas?
If we can't bring the Bridgemen back, can we at least bring the backfield warm-up back? Those were a little peek into the personality of each corps before they started their show. And you got a sense of the power that was about to be unleashed.
I didn't realize I miss them until I saw this clip.
I so badly wanted to see the Bridgemen live. But my stupid band director hustled us out of Lucas Oil after the Bluecoats.
So great to see this. The drumline still has it. Took me back to the 70's.
I like how they are now taking advantage of the things you couldn't do back when Drum Corps started. Like stepping over the front line, and speaking on the field while in formation. Now that did take me back and reminded what inspired me to do Drum & Bugle Corps....

I so hope all the young folks watching this look up 1970's Bridgemen. They were what I wanted my band to be. Great stuff! Great memories!
Awesome sound brought back many memories of 80's drum corps and always Fun.
Those were the days when you went home humming the music !😀

New Jersey drum corps during the 60's and 70's was the greatest. I marched Blessed Sacrament 1970-1973
CW Townsmen 72-77 best days of my life
Enjoyed the musical jokes. Thanks for the performance.
I'm so missing this and all the people I marched with last year !!! It was a Great time !!! Love you ALL !!!
Really nice full sound. I wonder If that soloist is playing a Bridgemen bugle from the 80's? "In the Stone" as a concert piece, just spectacular. I wish they would restart the junior corps.
He was playing a horn from the 80's!
Bob Cook 👌🎵🎺🔥🎺🎵👌
politicalsheepdog , he was playing Jim Brady's bugle!

Always had a great show. Loved these guys and gals. So ORIGINAL!!! Never be again. Hate to see ya go😢😢😢
Corps just really needs the Bridgemen. Proof that you can be great just being fun.
Indeed, LOUD IS GOOD!
You can tell they had tons of fun with this one!!
there one guy looks like his wearing the crossmen uniform
Heard one year ( when Bridgemen used to compete in the 1980's ) they played "Yeah Alabama" Wish it was in this show because I've never heard a drum cor do college stuff. Great show either way.
I wish I could've seen this live!
Ahhh Larry Kershner charts!!! -He was their not so secret weapon!@!- "My Favorite Things" bands are still [play his chart!!!
Dicarlos drum line awesome 😎💯

Thank you.
Just Awesome!
pagliacci played by the Bridgemen always make me feel good
SneakySteve 333 same
@16:05 a mello is missing something crucial...
I play Mello, I see what you're talking about and tbh it's kind of more of preference to have one or not. I know a lot players that play like that.
Missing mouthpiece, but keeps grooving, gotta love it.
Fake it till you make it
No, you don't. The mouthpiece does more things that are NESSECARY to the instrument in order to play properly.
At 16:12 I think that's the white dot at the top left of the screen 😂
Always loved The Bridgemen. VK kinda picked up where they left off in the 80’s.
Crowd of hundreds! Time to take the finals to DC territory! Rice Stadium Houston? Old Cotton Bowl Dallas?
The official count was 23,000
Any video of the Bridgemen Shuffle out there?
What's with the Crossmen baritone player?
Thats Connor, man. This was his 6th and final year with the crossmen. I'm guessing his dad was in the bridgemen or something
jimmyseb2000 He had relatives in the corps, I forget who. I got to talk to him when surf performed with bridgemen st Allentown
ah nice
So sad that they called it quits again....they were a joyous reminder of the FUN Drum Corps could be before it became an "art*form..
Back then when soloists weren't mic'd
But yet, sound like shit.
It figures.... when I finally get my 'real life' in order where I can go out and march drum corps again (after a 20 year 'break')The Bridgemen call it quits..... Guess I'll have to go to Hawthorne.....
DaddyOsInk 👣🎵😎Always go where you can march!😎🎵👣
Why did they stop this year?
Who's the guy in the blue uniform 14:45?
i go to a school that has uniforms inspired by the bridgemen's in fact last year our school band played at Carnegie hall and just recently our jazz band got a chance to go to Colorado
also we might be the only high school in america that have bridgemen uniforms
What high school do you go to ?
Royalaires drum & bugle corps
The Georgia Bridgemen. Lowndes high school.
Lake Braddock HS in Burke VA (Fairfax County near DC)in the 70's-80's had identical uniforms with "LB" at the same place as the Bridgemen's. We called them the "Little Bridgemen".
I remember when the Bridgemen switched to the Yellow Banana uniforms, it caused quite a stir in the drum corps world......
Is that Jimmy Russo directing???
Great Show. Especially for those "Old Farts" amongst them.
Drum Major who?
I wonder what the party after was like?
Why is this their final performance?
money and administrative problems.
they're all too old *sarcasm *
SneakySteve 333 *they’re and too
Will Gayner ah yes I'm terribly sorry
Rip Bass Drum
Did jim Brady perform?
chris schmitz No, he did not, however our screamer was using Jim's 2-valve bugle!
Aren't they playing on G bugles?
Will Gayner yes we were
Bill Paliwoda In your opinion do today’s G bugles project as well as they did when they were used in the 70s and 80s?
Bridgemen - Darth Vader, Velvet Knights - Luke Skywalker.
so when we hit rock bottom
Pog
American Flag on the field!
The player missing the mouthpiece made me wonder, people still marched "plugs"?
Rodney Nees, no it flung out of his horn! We still harrass him about it!
Who said that old people can be in DCI
They should have stayed home. Really.
You don't have a clue....
man....how sucky was that?........good bye!
Jim S It's classics man. This is how DCI used to sound. It was supposed to be nostalgic.
Jim S dude it's not supposed to be clean, these are all people who aged out years ago, you have no clue what you're talking about.....
It's how Drum Corps should still sound. Snowflakes be dammed. Bridgemen were the bad asses of Jr. Corps in the 70s into the 80s and Skyliners were the bad asses of Sr. Corps. Great years! I loved it
Jim S , YOU MUST BE FROM DCI ?
YOU SOUND LIKE A JACKASS.
