      tvee Hinduism is not a religion. Hindu is a geographical location. The thing [principle] that you are referring to is called sanathana dharma.

    While true, the label 'Indian' is very misleading in itself. India is much more complicated and diverse than most people or RUclips channels realize. Not just two different states, but people from two different cities are different from each other. In terms of diversity, India is like a mini-Europe. That is why you will find a huge number of people performing very different rituals, and an equally high number of people not giving a shit about them. As for Hinduism, it is not at all prescriptive. Religion doesn't force them to perform anything. It is more of tradition than religion. Mockery is easy. It is an act of cowardice, performed in the knowledge that there'll always be people to back you up. Try instead to understand other people. It will teach you the acceptance you never knew you were capable of.

    When there was no treatment available to the small pox.. People In Northern India used to rely upon the blessings of Goddess Sheetala.. She was supposed to be the one who killed a demon primarily responsible for fever.. cholera, dysentery, measles, smallpox etc.. Now Indians baby are well vaccinated but surprisingly if the fever of your baby is not getting down even after medicines.. Visit a nearby Temple of Sheetala mata.. Get your blessings there, give the same medicines and see yourself.. I have seen that so many times..

    First of all who are judging entire India based on this ritual please understand this that most Indians have never even heard about this ritual because it was always performed in Bengal region only. Most kolkata dwellers will also not know about this ritual. This practise is now a days rare even in the Bengal region itself. I witnessed this ritual only once that too in a very rural area. From the very beginning only, very few people ever took part in this ritual, mostly women from santhal tribe or from more rural areas.The number of people performing Dondi has been dwindling every year. Even when i witnessed this ritual last year i did not see a single baby being forced to take part in this ritual.
    I know that this ritual is harmful and cruel and abusive to babies but please also think about how abusive circumcision or khatna is for children. This ritual is slowly dying away anyway

      +Your Daddy Saitama yes, this is a stupid practice but when all hope is lost people are left with only one thing 'belief'. Also, I'm pretty sure the average iq for India is misinterpreted. You have to take in factors such as huge chunk of uneducated population in the calculation to get that result.
      I'm an Indian, I'm at MIT. I bet, if you take the average IQ of educated Indians , it'll be more than USA's.

    • @coolblizzard1993
      @coolblizzard1993 8 лет назад +1

      Arvind Puthige Then you have never talked to the people living in the smaller towns and villages. I too know that the average IQ of the metros must be around 100, but thats because of proper nutrition, proper education and less superstitions. You are forgetting that the majority of our country still lives at sub-saharan levels as indicated by the HDI of India.
      Moreover that data is from surveys conducted in the seventies and eighties when both India and China were at the same levels of HDI, but I guess it was because of the Communist govt that banned religion in China and carried out a massive literacy campaign that we see a twenty point difference in the average IQs. I don't consider it to be genetic too. I am just against superstitions as it holds us back. Look at middle east for example, All they care about is one book and thats why their average IQ hasn't improved much despite them being literate and rich....as they don't think out of the box. Finally congratulations for being an MITian. I hope you will do great things for the country in the future.

    I am a Hindu and never heard about it , actually the fact is that in Hinduism there are many Gods and a devotee of one specific God does the rituals to make that God happy, and for each God you have to perform things differently while in some cases it turns to be mere superstition created by some people which just spreads among people and everybody starts doing that in order to get his/her wishes come true.

    • @abhishekdev258
      @abhishekdev258 8 лет назад

      They are not GODS they are simply deities of certain local areas. Even Buddhists have millions of deities which are recognised as GODS in western languages. India never had a vatican type of body thats why so much confusion, but it also meant no bloodshed no ban on science and no crusades.

    • @e-cuauhtemoc
      @e-cuauhtemoc 8 лет назад

      Abhishek Kumar Dev Vatican? Bloodshed? Ban on science? Are you presuming I'm a Christian? ^_^
      No. In Buddhism there are not "millions" of gods, for lack of a better word in English (maybe 'deity' is better...). Gods/deities are recognized but usually come from the indigenous religions wherever Buddhism spread. Even in India the Vedic Gods take place under the Buddhas, unless they are made into buddhas like in the Tibetan tradition. Chakrasamvara is really just another form of Shiva and Kali in tantric union.
      Yes I know there's no pope or Dalai Lama for Sanatan Dharma. Stop presuming things. Hinduism (as called in the West) is open source. It's a problem and simultaneously a blessing. It gives rise to too many phony gurus and practices. However it welcomes all, in theory, to approach the divine in anyway they want. Anyway, each region does have local deities,and other Gods throughout India. Like Kali and Durga isn't popular in the Western parts of India, but she is still a Goddess that is considered an aspect of Parabrahman.

    • @abhishekdev258
      @abhishekdev258 8 лет назад

      E. Lin I am not assuming you are a christain mate. I am just saying what happened in India and Eastern hemisphere in general.
      Why do you think there are no tribes in modern Europe? Catholic Church caused bloodshed isn'it?
      Regarding your explanation of so many deities in Buddhism and Hinduism I agree with you thats what exactly happened.
      But then fake gurus and phony practices in hinduism is a result of lack of Central Command like Vatican? No I don't think so there are so many stupid teleevangelists and even many fake priests and useless practices in Church too.
      P.S. why are outsiders so fixated with Mother Kali and Mother Durga? The idea of divine female is not the concept of India alone. In vietnam, in Japan, in China, in Tibet and even in Greek religion right? However the difference is there and that is in areas where old religions are still alive people consider them as a part of divinity and where old religions are dead old divinity figures of both Male and Female are just part of fashion or some fantasy.

    • @e-cuauhtemoc
      @e-cuauhtemoc 8 лет назад

      Abhishek Kumar Dev Even with a central body like the Vatican corruption still occurred and gave rise to other sects and even other offshoots. Think Martin Luther and Calvin. People are people, and this is samsara. There will ALWAYS be problems. People will either use wisdom for good or bad. Look at all the so-called holy men on both sides of the world that have become wealthy from religion and spirituality. It will never end, but people like you and I just have to use our own wisdom and dismiss (and maybe expose) such charlatans.
      No comment on tribes. You just need to visit the West to see for yourself.
      Kali and Durga are popular because "outsiders" are tired of masculine angry Godheads. Yes eventually there is no form. But some needs these divine forms to understand the ultimate Parabhaman, or whatever. The drop returns to the ocean. ;-) But first many must can only see the drop. Think about growing up in a Christian-Muslim culture. God comes off very angry all the time and is referred to as "Father" a lot. He is also unknowing and dualistic. No Vedanta type moksha here. You're not God. You're not even remotely divine. You're just tainted with sin since time began. People that are breaking away from that are looking East to India for a more compassionate nurturing Godhead, even if it's wrathful compassion like Kali. The Virgin Mary and Gaudalupe have a secondary position. Durga has the option of being worshiped on her own without any masculine Gods in the mix. I personally like the Shakti cults. You see a LOT of it carried over into Tibetan Buddhism. So that can fill the void too for many that are weary of angry masculine Godheads.

    Cultures vary from place to place - there need not be a logic and i don't get the point why westerners must judge everything based on your situation and knowledge.
    Did you guys ever think - you don't know everything. maybe instead of judging you should appreciate the vastness of cultures and their way of saying thank you for what they have. People have different ways of expressing - don't worry the Mothers are not going hurt or traumatise their own child.
