Love them both but I hit the 1910 a little more often. Mixed 1to1 for a 1915 is very tasty! I get the 1910 for 55 and the 1920 for 46 both top notch whiskey’s!
I accidentally bought the 1910, due to the ribbon color is very similar, and I was in a hurry. Got home and was PO'd I bought the wrong one. What the heck, I opened it, and whoa, I was blown away. Just got better and better with time. Now I have to have both, but push come to shove, gimme the 1910. That's awesome stuff!
I have had both. I prefer the 1910. I feel like if the 1920 was 100 proof it would win. However, the 1910, once I got get a couple of glasses into it, took on this ice cream/pla-DO smell taste that is delicious. I will say, when I opened the 1910 bottle, it was gone in three days. I found myself craving it more than the 1920, which I had for about 3-4 weeks. Anyway, agreed, both great whiskies! Cheers from Texas! Justin Miller
Old Forester 1920 one of my favorite bottles. I am going to give the 1910 a try. Someone suggested a mix of 1910 and 1920 is actually 1915! I'll let you know what I think about that.
Guy, let me know how that blended 1915 goes. I finished my 1910 before hearing about the 1915 and then all the 1910 dried up. I liked the 1910 but a bit too sweet for a second bottle. For a few $$ less I'm enjoying the 1792 Full Proof!! Cheers!!
I just blind bought a bottle of OF 1920 a little over a week ago, and your review of it along with a handful of others played a big part in that. I absolutely don't regret it, it is fantastic...easily one of my top 5. Thanks for that suggestion and for all of your excellent, in depth and honest reviews.
Great review. I never had 1910 and the 1920 is a rare offering in Ontario but I did get some and the now 1920 is my favorite whiskey . Unfortunately I'll probably never see it again. Cheers
Wife and I toured Old Forester last September during Bourbon Fest. We hit quite a few distilleries in Louisville but the OF tour was my favorite. This is where we first tried the 1897, 1910 & 1920 in a single tasting. All were great but the 1910 blew my socks off! I still keep all 3 (and more) on hand. If you ever get to take the OF tour, do the private cocktail class while your there. So much fun! Great review sir.
Nice review Chris, awesome head to head. I didn’t love my 1910 but I went through it pretty quickly. I need to give it another shot, but I agree with the similarities to Woodford Double Oaked. 1920 is my favorite affordable bottle on the market
As someone who's tried both I find this head to head was the most honest when I buy 1910 I let some air get to it put it on the shelf and come back to it later and it's amazing 1920 speaks for itself but I'm an end of the day drinker so I personally prefer the 1910 but fully understand why the 1920 is so beloved
I love both, and will always have both on my bar, including a few backup bottles so I never run dry. That said, I find myself hitting the 1910 more often that pretty much anything else on my bar of over 40 whiskeys. Maybe because I often drink my whiskey late and it's a nice dessert-like finish to the night.
good to know about the neck pour on the 1910. Our total wine got one case of 1910 and it was gone in an hour, missed it. I do love the 1920, one of my go to bottles at the end of the night, normally dont start with it.
Barrel-A-Charry all day! I couldn’t agree with you enough about 1920 and 1910. I’m starting to really appreciate the bourbons that are really complex without going above 120 proof. Lower proof expressions have nothing to hide behind. Cheers Chris! It’s been a lot of fun following your advent calendar 🥃
Thank you so much! I really think barrel-a-charry is about to catch on big time in the industry! And I agree. I love me an almost 140 proof that kicks me in the face, but it can also hide flaws at that high of proof. Better to appreciate at about the 115 to 120 sweet spot
Great head-to-head! I may have a bottle of OF 1920 on the way (fingers crossed). Makes sense that the 1910 is darker considering the heavy char. I heard that the 1920 has a tiny bit of water added to match it as close as possible to Prohibition proof.
I love both and always keep both on my bar with a backup under the bar, BUT...as much as I love the 1920, I find myself reaching for the 1910 far more often. Bananas foster drizzled in dark chocolate.
1920 consistently has stayed in my top 5 (currently Four Roses Barrel Strength picks, RR SiB picks, OWA , OF1920 and 1792 BiB). OF1920 was $44.99 at big red in Indiana .. should’ve stocked up more when I was in town
Guy Davis the full proof I’ve had comes off a little harsh and alcohol forward . I may try 1 more pick but the BiB is really really good and often overlooked
Awesome review as I had already pored myself some 1910 and 1920 tonight and watch whisky reviews. My bottles were both opened 11 weeks ago and have opened up nicely. I started with the 1910 and just delicious with no water. I started sipping on the 1920 at bottle proof because you were , as I usually proof down to 92 and enjoying. Thanks so much for this review and a quick compare to ECBP ( on of my top favs).............Happy Holidays to all you bourbon buddies!..........cheers!
I'm drinking 1910..as you speak. I was a bit afraid of the 1920 proof strength, as I'm a bourbon noob. Thanks much for delineating the differences. I've also noticed my bottle "opening up." I'm a third of the way down. My previous (and 2nd bottle of bourbon ever was David Nicholson 1843 (which I selected amongst 4 others in a blind tasting.) Pretty nice bottle for a beginner. Cheers!
Couldn't agree more! Thanks so much for watching watching it's so much fun just starting into whiskey you get to try everything and see what you really like and don't like! Cheers🥃🥃
I love Old Forester products and have both the 1910 and 1920. Just did a side by side while watching and I would give the nod to the 1920. It’s a little more balanced to me and the spice kick from the higher proof is something I enjoy as well. That said, the 1910 is a perfect dessert whiskey and both of these are currently on my bar.
Great review as always. Two of my favorites. Have you made an Old Forestor 1915? One part 1910 and one part 1920. If not I highly recommend it! Very complex.
Interesting information on the second barrel for the 1910. Almost an inverse of the Woodford Reserve double oak which I think is finished in a toasted but not chared barrel. Both Chris Morris curated Bourbons unless he has retired?
I absolutely love the 1910, but have noticed that after the bottle has been open for awhile it really starts to drop off in taste due to oxidation. I suggest to transfer the bourbon at it's peak into 4 or 8 oz. sample bottles to preserve it. Not sure why this bottle is affected more by oxidation than others, but I have noticed it on multiple 1910s that I have had.
Nice vid! I was able to tour the OF distillery in Louisville a month ago and had a great time. I remembered liking what I had there for the tasting. I have a bottle of Statesman (bought there) unopened and picked up their rye here in WI recently. Looking forward to picking up a bottle each of the 1910 and 1920 as well in *hopefully* the near future. Cheers!
I agree the 86 proof is excellent for the value as well. Most of us who have drank whiskey a while tend to lean towards higher proof stuff due to even more rich bold flavor but I agree on the 86. Would be fun to do a full OF lineup including the 86
Tonight I had a glass of the 1920 and followed with the 86. My impression was they had the same profile but the 1920 magnified all the best parts. Funny thing was how much more I appreciated the 86 afterward because the 1920 helped point out all its more subtle flavors. Did a taste of 1870 after that and it was like switching to Buffalo Trace. Less brown sugar and more dry.
The 1920 wins for me. The 1910 is really oaky. I think fans of Woodford double oak will love the 1910. Mixed (1915), I still picked the 1920 in a blind tasting.
