What a beautiful person she was inside and out. She and her son loved animals so much they owned an inn in Carmel, CA where you can bring your dogs. She was simple and laid back at the grocery store. Had the privilege of meeting her. I fell in love with big band music because of her. What a class act was she...
RIP, DORIS, . I loved this dear lady since I was a child, both in her singing and her movies. I will really miss her, a true icon, the last of the greats.
R.I. P. dear Doris Day you will always be a star that is now in the sky. I'm crying. You were a wonderful actress and singer but more than that, you were a good-hearted human being and a loyal friend. Thank you Doris Day - From Brazil
First time I ever payed attention to Doris Day was when I was 13 in 1970 when I first heard her sing the chorus of Sentimental Journey on the original recording with Les Brown. Now that was heaven! RIP Doris.
My Grandparents loved watching Doris Day movies and all of her guest appearances on other shows. Beautiful and timeless voice. Rest In Peace Doris Day.
She was one of a kind. Multi-talented and so captivating on screen. Another legend gone and sorely missed. When today's "stars" go, few will bat an eye. That's the difference between then and now.
You are exactly right. So glad I grew up in that time, we grew up with pure talent. No computer to make them sound great. You either had it or you didn't. All the greats left us with great memories and great music. May you soar Doris in the eternal happiness and love with God.
@@glendadixon8319 And now they're being attacked and trashed unjustly, like the great, Kate Smith and the equally great, Lillian Gish. Hope Doris never used the word watermelon in a film. They'll want her awards back.
I grew up watching her movies, they were wonderful! My mom loved her singing"Sentimental Journey", that was my parents' song. Brought back happy memories of their courtship during WWII, until my dad went off to war. And of course Doris's movies were a favorite of theirs, too. God bless you Doris for all the decent, wholesome, positive emotions you inspired in people with your music and your movies during the most trying times of our lives! ♥️♥️♥️🙏
Doris Day once said she sang to her dogs in heart and mind. My big abused rescue dog would wander over to listen to her singing voice, every time from any place. Love you Doris Day. Rest in Peace.
Rest in peace Doris Day. Gone but not forgotten. I'm only 30 and I listen to Doris Day. Like this if you're a youngn and like me who still likes the old music.
I truly loved Doris Day. She so reminded me of my beautiful, funny and smart beloved mother. She was totally natural and down to earth. No inflated ego with this lady at all. I get a kick out of all her movies even today. I can't think of one female singer/actress who can match her. Especially today where most so called talent is self centered and lacking any humility. God bless you Doris. You were genuinely a nice person, who made so many people (and four legged friends) very happy in this life.
I will miss you Doris Day :( even though I am 17 right now and I keep on listening to your wonderful voice every night just to be relaxed... You will always be remembered and thank you for everything Doris!
Great singer and underated for that. She was a nice and outgoing person, descent actor and loved animals. That's enough to make her a great and talented person. Part of the golden era of Hollywood that had the best talant in the day, which we'll never see again.
Dear God, Please send us someone like Doris -- We need this more than ever in these troubled and very confusing times. And thank you for sending her in the first place. R.I.P. Lovely Lady. 5/2019
@- Morales, Look, Jesus said; "It is Finished!" It's already decided and finished! If we believe in the power of the Cross, we are saved from The wrath of God...If we do not believe nor receive it....we are lost in Eternity! I don't know if "Doris Day" believed in Jesus or not, so I cannot just put her in heaven!
Before there was a "women's movement", there were people like Doris Day defining what it actually meant. A whole generation of these women battled that minefield like champs, often underappreciated or dismissed by those who have no idea or understanding of the hard work it took to make it l👀k easy, and MADE it easier for those who followed. She was truly...starlight. 🌾
I can't remember when I first heard & saw Doris Day. Must've in the late '40s when I started going to the movies & reading the fan magazines of the day. I was 7 & got hooked. "It's Magic" from her first movie "Romance on the High Seas" was magical, and so her career flourished & became magical to the whole world. All her songs were singable & her movies delectable. She left us with loads of goodies to enjoy for the rest of OUR lives & those of our children, grandchildren, etc. Love you, Doris. Rest in Peace.
Rock Hudson MAX documentary brought me here. Though way past my time, I was always in awe of legendary status and sang songs in school as a kid not realizing years later they were made famous by her. She lived a long fruitful life.
Add to those two .. "Pillow Talk" also with Rock Hudson & Tony Randall! The perfect foils for each other with poor Tony caught in the middle! Funny and so-oo Doris Day!
May God rest her soul in peace, she was such a unique person, talented actor-comedian -singer, and animal lover and such a warm personality, you can see all the positive energy reflected from her face
I was afraid when Doris died that they wouldn't remember her at all but everybody remembered her, as I watched the clips of her movies I went from tears to laughter,
Beautiful lady. May she rest in peace. Few days ago I saw the stars who are still alive in eighties to over 100 years old I saw her and said I didn't know she was still alive And coincidentally that's the very day she died.
Well, this is a good and respectful news item, if a little short. Even in itself it's a breath of fresh air! My memory of Doris Day movies as a young man and student in the U.K. is when I would inadvertently stumble upon one on television in the 1970s but mainly the 80s. Usually they were billed as a matinée. On our three or four channels, there may well have been nothing else to watch, and it may well have been wet outside, and I may have been suddenly unable to think as to what else to do, pacified as I was by copious amounts of tea and bread and jam as well as the company of mum and siblings perhaps (who had control of the television). It seems like a bit of civilisation, looking back now. That fortunate if at first not-sought-for relaxation into old Hollywood light entertainment so wittily delivered by the likes of a versatile artist and entertainer such as Doris Day is a rare thing in the ridiculous small-screen age of the swamp-like internet. Will I happen upon witty light entertainment again in the company of others? Doris Day will always remain a beacon for the best that Hollywood came up with. A beacon to the world if you ask me!
A light giver. Thank you Doris Day. "O Lord, glorify his station, shelter him under the pavilion of Thy supreme mercy, cause him to enter Thy glorious paradise, and perpetuate his existence in Thine exalted rose garden, that he may plunge into the sea of light in the world of mysteries." ~ Baha'i Prayer
I recommend anyone who's a fan of Doris Day to watch her performance in a movie called "Midnight Lace". Her performance and the movie itself will ASTOUND you!
Yeah, Doris Day was old, but she did not die because she was old -- she died from a cold. Exercise -- even when sick -- stay warm and keep moving. Old age is but a number -- until you make it more.
George Kafantaris, you are in denial. When your number is up....you are getting up outta here! I think "97" is a ripe old age, now stop whit the foolishness and prepare to meet your maker!
I remember how the night manager at Val's Hamburgers in Danbury Connecticut would go on and on about her beautiful smile and those teeth, oh my lord he would say. Hello Jerry if you are still out there?
As often the case in Hollywood, Doris‘s personal life was anything but the Cinderella story played on the big silver screen. But she was a true survivor !
"Jesus said to her: I am the resurrection and the life. The one who exercises Faith in me, even though he dies, will come to life; and everyone that is living and exercises Faith in me will never die at all. Do you believe this?" (John 11: 25, 26) RIP
I suppose if Doris had somehow ended up as a Bond girl and temptingly informed Sean Connery or Roger Moore (James Bond) that she has 'a beautiful back', Bond's reply would have been, 'I suppose your mother made you sit up straight.' The cinema audience would have then tittered with laughter - the sort of audience to a degree who would have stared blankly at this scene caught in this news piece with DD and Carey Grant because they would not have believed there was anything witty enough for them to sustain their attention or to enjoy that type of DD movie.

Social media and 24 hour sensational news channels encourage cultural scholars to be lazy when a legendary entertainer is 97 years young. Then the entertainer dies and the cultural scholars snap to attention within seconds of learning the news. Liza Minnelli has more than two decades to go before she becomes 97.
