This is the former convent at Ernéeof the Hospitalières de Saint-Joseph from La Flêche, they were amongst teh first nuns to go from France to Montréal in Canada where they ran many hospitals and homes for the aged. I hope the house will continue to offer hospitality.
Thank u. As one who was raised by nuns in St. Louis, MO in an orphanage. Nuns have always fascinated me. This convent tells an old story and u are the new storytellers. Patrick Genna, Sisters of the Most Precious Blood, O Fallon, MO, Etats Unis du Amerique.
Thank you so much for the information, many were wondering about it, I do hope as well that the premises will continue to offer hospitality. A tradition of our Catholic orders cultures to help with services to those who suffer.
I remember buying abandoned property and one of the most exciting parts of it was discovering what you got for your money. All the hopes and dreams and endless possibilities. Then reality sets it.....and you realize why it was abandoned in the first place.
My wife and I purchased a Manson in central Tennessee and got for a steal. The manson is on 507 acres. Roughly 300 acre is woods and trees. Nevertheless, we took about 2 years having it fixed up. And 10 years later, we live in and raised our 2 daughters and 3 Doberman's. Initially we were going to fix it up and sell it. But it came out so stunning. We decided to live in it. Only negative, is I work in Nashville, and commute about 70 miles to work. My wife setup a vet clinic on 50 acres and is the local veterinarian for the farmers/ranchers. My hours as a surgeon are odd, so at least I avoid traffic.
my cousin bought an abandoned home in Detroit. The back pouch was filled with metal file cabinets. The pervious owner appeared to have purchased every singe Time-Life video collection on VHS tapes that they offered. Like 10 cabinets of old media tapes.
@@erikh9991 I once found, at the local thrift store, a TWA Stewardess satchel filled, FILLED, to bursting, with NatGeo maps. You know, the ones sent within the latest issue of the magazine. Some were pre-WWII issues. Long story on how and where and by whom they went the the wayside. In any event, the nostalgia of things from other times has always intrigued me. I'm 58, very nearly 59, and I love history. Have a blessed day! Always, Andy
@@fabioluisguerraferreira1682 Way more! A really nice venue (in Houston for example) can rent for 10 - 30k, venue only, for 6 - 8 hrs. Imagine if the wedding party could stay on property, plus the wedding. I would think a minimum of 50k for lodging and ceremony/reception space. Get good catering, planner and floral/decor, and you could be looking at 100k easy for a mid size wedding.
What I love best is Billy's attitude, joy, spirit, and his appreciation of architecture and history. I can't think I've ever met a man who looked at a portico in a run down building and said, "That's really nice!" I've seen the progress in the subsequent videos and am astonished to learn this started only in March 2022. In three months he and his friends have done about 5 years work! Thanks, I love watching these.
Beautiful property, lots of potential, I'm excited to see what all gets done to bring it back to life. All the stained glass pieces took my breath away, but im most excited to see that finished courtyard!
I am (almost) as excited as you about the project. I can't wait til the courtyard is cleared and gleaming in the sun. This is an incredible property and so nice that it is a family involved.
Rewatching this as the kitchen is being done.( 19/03/23). Its crazy how much has been achieved in the time. How different the courtyard and out the back looks already. What a difference ❤
It’s amazing to revisit this post after a year. Billy you have accomplished so much. The convent courtyard is now beautiful and the kitchen is really coming along. It’s been fun to follow along , Can’t wait to see what happens…
I can see this courtyard totally cleaned up, clean pavers/cobbles, roses blooming all long the building, and lights strung across, for a beautiful wedding, party, or ball. When you redesign, include a small platform or cleared area meant for musicians, like a band or quartet! Even if you won’t do events yourselves (but I am sure you’ve thought about all the ways you could rent the space. The middle of town is of course the perfect place for a beautiful venue). Please do a courtyard party once it’s cleaned up, and invite the whole town to come see!
@@judygillespie3242 Thats my take as well. for some reason most people seem to want to turn these old buildings into wedding venues or Air BnBs. But when we look at the history of many abandoned masions it seems that once they become hostels/ hotels/ boarding schools they often just find themselves in a decline until no one wants to buy them anymore to fix them up for people to live in. A nice apartment complex on the other hand, like a small community within the towns community, seems to be so much more useful, and also much more forward thinking. Housing is needed, not wedding or party venues. A couple of smaller apartments for singles or young couples, a couple for families, and the seperate building with the seven apartments, i'd probably turn it into a whole house unit to be rented out, or live in myself. If its in the vicinity of attractive companies or a bigger citie thats having an influx or workers, even better.
Thank you for showing us around Billy and Ryan. Cannot wait to see that tree gone forever! The grounds will look lovely once it gets some much needed TLC (tender loving care) ! Looking forward to what becomes of this lovely building.
I don't know why this popped up on my RUclips but, looking back, it is amazing what you have accomplished in such a short time. You've had a vision, you are cracking on with it!
(1819-2010) In 1819, a community of Hospitallers Canonesses of Saint Augustine, who had administered the local hospital in Ernee for approximately 200 years, was reduced to a small number of aging sisters. The Bishop suggested that this congregation become affiliated with the Hospitallers of Saint Joseph in Laval. This affiliation agreement was signed on May 24, 1819. As of this date, the RHSJ served the Ernee Hospital, their community being close to the hospital which was a public institution. The dilapidated state of this hospital forced the city to face a new construction which was completed in 1963. This new hospital is located on Paris Avenue, a few miles from the former hospital. This meant that the community of Sisters would be constituted in two groups, namely, the hospital community and the nursing home community which was close to the RHSJ convent. The Sisters pursued their activities at the hospital until 1986. One RHSJ was responsible for pastoral services until 2003. In 1975, following the construction of the new hospital in Laval, only eight Hospitallers served in this hospital. The Sisters of Laval joined the Ernee community then at a later date,1983-1985, the Sisters of La Fleche and Bauge joined this community which was designated as a community for senior Sisters. Aging and health of the Sisters, too much community space for the small number of Sisters were prime reasons for the Congregation to decide to close this house in 2010. The Sisters pursued their social and pastoral apostolic services until the very end.
The drone footage really shows how large the place is! One thing is for sure- we aren’t going to see Billy bored or with nothing to do for years! (And years…and years…) 😂😂. Really looking forward to seeing what you and Gwen have planned for these buildings.
That is an amazing building. I recall convent the sisters had back when I went to Catholic school and watching this brought back so many memories. Now theirs wasn't the size and magnitude 9f yours because I grew in a small town, but I recall the solitude when you walked in the door. Thanks for sharing, can't wait to see what you do with the place.
Just stopped back in to see the Offending Tree again. So much has changed in just one year and the roses that bloomed after you bought it are still in bloom. Amazing progress in just one year. It would be nice if a Doctor could rent an office space at the convent.
What an awesome property! There is so much potential. If the surrounding property owners are excited that someone (you) are planning on restoring it, you could possibly get some volunteers to help out, especially cleaning up the courtyard. Best of luck with your exciting new venture!
Like a fairy tale, one can see the potential with this one. Every part of this place gets my creative juices flowing on what to do with this. Weddings, a hotel, a pub, a music venue… the ideas are endless, and a lot of work will need to go into this. But with some patience and sweat equity this could be the destination wedding spot for hundreds of miles around. Wow! Just WOW! God’s choicest blessings to you as you dive into the great adventure.
How about a secular retreat house? All the things you have mentioned are noisy and easily available elsewhere. What is needed in these times is a peaceful place where people can go and just be.
How exciting! So many possibilities! I love how your family works together to help each other. I cannot wait to see your ideas and the progress on this property! 😁👏👏👏👍❤️🇨🇦

The elevator shaft if you put a stone surface on it, reshaped the top, and put some chimney pots on the top of the reshaped top you could make it look like a big old chimney.
That place holds so much history it would be cool if even just for 6 months you would open it up for tours. I see people showing up in droves . So many secrets to uncover in a convent.
I wanted to get started pulling the ivy down, remove the tree, uncover the cobble…. Oh my!! Lets get this party started! I can not wait to see all the footage. You will need to hire someone (possibly Ryan) to do all the social media/videos so you will have time to complete your project list. I am so excited and happy for you and the community.

Thank you for sharing this. Got to say seeing how much work you have on your herds makes me feel a lot better about how much of my garden I still have to clear
This last two weeks whilst I’ve been in hospital yourself, Ryan and Stephanie Jarvis at Chateau de LaLande have kept me going. For the first 5 days I was in a side room with no tv or conveniences 🥴 it got rather depressing. Then I got moved to the cardiac ward again a side room on my own but at least this time I had a tv and a loo 🤦♀️😝. I wasn’t able to comment but I’m home now and want to say thank you for your daily vlogs. I couldn’t have visitors and because I’d gone in as an emergency I hadn’t taken reading material or anything to counteract boredom or loneliness! All the Chateau vlogs brought not only a smile and laughter to me but made me able to “ escape” even for just a few moments. Never under estimate the power and importance and impact your daily vlogs have on us. I’m disabled and so some days I’m unable to get out and about but RUclips gives me the ability to travel all over the world. I’ve seen so many places and learnt so much history …which I love, and just so many interesting things thanks to people like yourselves and RUclips. So thank you, Billy, Michael, Ryan and family for all that you do xx♥️♥️
Awesome!Beautiful property, I'm excited to see the end result what all gets done to bring it back to life. All the stained glass pieces is spectacular, cant wait to see that finished courtyard!
This could be a beautiful intentional community, with apartments all around, a private play yard for children, prune the roses and ivy, perhaps some raised garden beds in the courtyard. The chapel could become a multi purpose spot such as for game nights or big dinners.
Can't wait until you get the keys!! I am sure that you will do amazing things with this building, bringing it back to life. I am with you, can't wait to see that tree gone!!
You see a workshop, and I see a large apartment with livingroom and kitchen downstairs, a huge window where the garage is, and bathroom 1 downstairs, and 3 bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs 😂🤣😂 What a huge space! Wish I lived nearby, I would gladly volunteer to help clear the courtyard! 😃
Stumbled upon another video you have and am hooked. You have an fantastic eye for details. I am a fool for old homes. First home I bought was 1890s. Now living in my 1880s home. Restoration is a task of love for fine workmanship. I'm in Massachusetts, USA. Our buildings don't go as far back as in Europe.
I can fully understand your excitement and impatience to get your hands on this project Billy!! Well done you, enthusiastic and foreseeing, lots of work but it’ll be so rewarding. And so much potential…
If anyone can shake out the cobwebs and breathe new life into the place it's Billy et al. Congratulations. We're all ready for a new exciting adventure so thanks for inviting us along.
It is amazing that this abandoned complex is still in very good condition. Had this been in the US it would have been vandalized and covered with graffiti or all the copper torn out for scraps. Hope you will have good luck turning this back into a beautiful and vibrant place. Please keep documenting and sharing your progress.
Same thing in the UK. Lots of squatters, vandals and thieves. This building was likely not destroyed because of a few factors, such as the location near a main road, an occupied car park nearby, and it doesn't look like any of the windows are boarded up.
I am overwhelmed and wouldn't know where to start. Well ok, obliviously the tree is going first, but what's next? Ryan's apartment? I'm looking forward to watching the progress.
My goodness this property is huge. The courtyard is going to look awesome once you’ve cleared all the ivy, etc. you definitely need a team in there to knock this job over. The greenhouse will be handy and the workshop is a great idea. So much potential. Thank you Billy for the drone shots. Loved it
I am very glad I found you again. I quite enjoyed your joy at fixing and figuring things out with your family. I will keep you in my prayers as you are working on convent .
YOWZA!!! I see some amazing content going forward. Not that your other videos haven’t been great, Billy. Work, work, a haunting or two, more work. That place is amazing, inside and out. Good luck to you all. ❤️
Amazing property with lots of potential ….can’t wait to see what you make of it ! With all the family involved it’s sure to be spectacular if all your work on the Chateau, it’s buildings and grounds is anything to go by……! I bet all the people in the Town are waiting with interest to see the outcome of your plans too xx ❤️
The greenhouse looks lovely 😍 The garden certainly needs some work, so good luck with that you sure do need it 😂 Looking forward to new videos of the new project 💙
I have never subscribed so fast to a YT channel as fast as I did to yours. I am very excited to go along the trip you will be taking in renovating this property! Cheers!
I’m so excited! After seeing what you’ve done at the chateau, I know how you’ll work together to give this property new life. It’s going to be amazing!! Thanks for including us.
The whole building could tell a real story. So sad to see that it is no longer used for its purpose. A very interesting video. Many thanks for sharing.
Yes it's sad so many of the comments, talk about how great it would be for partying. It's history was helping the disadvantage. Helping the homeless...is boring today. There's the other side that's quite happy it's abandoned or they call it a place of horrible torture...not goodness. Satanic witches are very popular... could be a reason for bad attitude's...? Gutting of history continues....
@@milo-qh7cv Unfortunately it's true that a form of so-called Christianity...has destroyed many lives....in the name of God. Along with sick twisted crazy human beings..... without God's name. But the overall force of Christ has been the only thing helping others in this cruel world. They provided aid, when no one cared. I've been unsaved, and know both sides of the issue, Christ is everything that's good.. This world is run by elites...king dollar. Murder, along with unnecessary and deliberate genocide makes money for elite corporate foundations by using the food shortages, the dirty water, the lack of helpful medicine to the poor.... while pocketing the aid, with huge overhead expenses. These are ALL human destruction's, that are lead by evil corrupt elites, and government's. We have been given freewill to choose good or bad influences in this life, most want bad choices for selfish reasons. Don't blame God, for mankind's continued fall.... away from God. Blessings to you.
Without a doubt, that is a magnificent property with so much potential and in pretty good shape as well. Whilst you were taking us on the tour, the over-arching question running through my mind was, "what are your intentions for the property?".. I've subscribed as I'm really curious to see where you all go with this.
Amazing drone footage Billy. I cannot wait to see you clear the courtyard. So much to do soo very exciting for you all. Cannot wait to go on the journey on the renovation. Bon Chance xx
It would be extraordinary to document historical features as you begin the journey to revive the life of this convent. I don’t know how much information is available in French archives, but it’s so incredibly interesting to those of us who truly love ancient buildings!
STUNNING STUNNING STUNNING!!!!!!!!! CANNOT WAIT TO SEE THE RENO AND ALL THE COBBLES IN THE CORTYARD. THE DOORS OF THE WORKSHOP ARE FAB!! WHAT A GREAT PURCHASE AND RIGHT IN THE CENTRE OF TOWN. PRIME REAL ESTATE. Wishing you all the most enjoyable time getting it all in order and WHAT MAGNIFICENT VIEWING FOR US 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏♥️♥️♥️
I'm reminded of countless episodes of Grand Designs, where people quickly end up with zero savings, hundreds of thousands (if not millions) over budget and in debt, and eventually abandoned, half-finished projects.
This is such an interesting project and you are the right person to do it. Cannot wait to see what ideas you have for everything. Good luck from Michigan U.S.A.
What a mammoth task that will be and thats just the overgrown weeds etc. Can’t wait to see you bring some life back into the convent. Thanks for the tour.

Just discovered you and now need to follow your every step and can't wait to hear what you discover as you go along. Best wishes with all the adventures on this project.
That wooden cabinet you think might be for mail - if it is near the chapel, could it be a cupboard for the sacristy where items for Mass were stored - the sacred linens, vessels, and oils? Across from it appears to be the vestry where priests would change into their vestments. Thank you for taking us on this journey with you. So exciting!

The elevator shaft if you put a stone surface on it, reshaped the top, and put some chimney pots on the top of the reshaped top you could make it look like a big old chimney.
Oh my word, it's so beautiful , congratulations Billy and Gwen on an awesome purchase. With love and all blessings from South Africa.
Thank you for the tour of the new project! Can't wait to see what you do to restore it! Love from Vermont
That place holds so much history it would be cool if even just for 6 months you would open it up for tours. I see people showing up in droves . So many secrets to uncover in a convent.
I cannot believe how much you have done. Well done to all of your helpers
Wow, can’t wait to see you start working on it. All the very best for your new project. ☺️👵🏻🇦🇺
this is just amazing looking back on this. you have come so far to where you are now.
Seems like a great property. It would be lovely to hear your plans for it.
Wow!! This is beautiful just the way it is I can only imagine how breathtaking it will be once it's complete. Please keep us updated on your journey. Wishing you all the best. Love from Canada 🇨🇦 ❤
Thank you for sharing this. Got to say seeing how much work you have on your herds makes me feel a lot better about how much of my garden I still have to clear
This is an amazing project! Looking forward to the renovations.
What a stunning place, congrats, looking forward to the renovations.
WOW, just wow Billy, Gwen and family. This is so exciting. Can't wait to watch the progress!
I know this is two years in but, I honestly saw the same thing as you.
Very badass, congrats to you, greetings from Phoenix AZ!
Absolutely beautiful drone footage and nature colours
I can fully understand your excitement and impatience to get your hands on this project Billy!! Well done you, enthusiastic and foreseeing, lots of work but it’ll be so rewarding. And so much potential…
If anyone can shake out the cobwebs and breathe new life into the place it's Billy et al. Congratulations. We're all ready for a new exciting adventure so thanks for inviting us along.
Wow! I hope you share the restoration as it goes along, and the finished project. My mind sees a glorious place.
It is amazing that this abandoned complex is still in very good condition. Had this been in the US it would have been vandalized and covered with graffiti or all the copper torn out for scraps. Hope you will have good luck turning this back into a beautiful and vibrant place. Please keep documenting and sharing your progress.
As longas the roof is okay it will not detariated so much. Its only about 10 years out of service.
Ok if you really purchased this whole location ... how did you afford it and how can you afford to redo this place
My goodness this property is huge. The courtyard is going to look awesome once you’ve cleared all the ivy, etc. you definitely need a team in there to knock this job over. The greenhouse will be handy and the workshop is a great idea. So much potential. Thank you Billy for the drone shots. Loved it
What an investment! 👏🏼 Can’t wait to see how you turn it around! 💫
I am very glad I found you again. I quite enjoyed your joy at fixing and figuring things out with your family. I will keep you in my prayers as you are working on convent .
Wow what a beautiful place and a dream to have something like this place
New subscriber here and i can't wait to see more of this beautiful building💕
I just found you and cannot wait to see what you all are able to do to make this property beautiful again. Thank you for saving her.
I have never subscribed so fast to a YT channel as fast as I did to yours. I am very excited to go along the trip you will be taking in renovating this property! Cheers!
If you have them as apartments that would make a fantastic communal courtyard. 😊
I’m so excited! After seeing what you’ve done at the chateau, I know how you’ll work together to give this property new life. It’s going to be amazing!! Thanks for including us.
Best wishes on the new endeavor. You will do fantastic things I’m sure.
Incredible to re watch this and see how far it’s come!! So amazing and well done! Looking forward to seeing further changes in the days to come.
The whole building could tell a real story. So sad to see that it is no longer used for its purpose. A very interesting video. Many thanks for sharing.
I share the sentiment, it is indeed sad that it had to be closed/abandoned.
@@goodasgold2012 Thanks. I agree...
glad it is not. Christianity killed so many of my people in name of soul salvation.
Wonderful opportunities! Billy your like a kid in a candy store I am catching your enthusiasm
WOW, so interesting, I'm looking forward to seeing more of your convent, thank you for this look.
Absolutely gorgeous, cant wait to see what comes of it!
Without a doubt, that is a magnificent property with so much potential and in pretty good shape as well. Whilst you were taking us on the tour, the over-arching question running through my mind was, "what are your intentions for the property?".. I've subscribed as I'm really curious to see where you all go with this.
My dream! Looking forward to seeing how they have renovated this gem.
I don’t know how much information is available in French archives, but it’s so incredibly interesting to those of us
who truly love ancient buildings!
Wishing you all the most enjoyable time getting it all in order and WHAT MAGNIFICENT VIEWING FOR US 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏♥️♥️♥️
omg keep the ivy pleaaasse! It gives so much to the look of the building, it's beautiful! Maybe not all of it but some of it!:)
I'm reminded of countless episodes of Grand Designs, where people quickly end up with zero savings, hundreds of thousands (if not millions) over budget and in debt, and eventually abandoned, half-finished projects.
My goodness. This project will keep you busy for years! So much potential.
WOW hope you guys can bring this beautiful place back to life great video thanks and lots of love and luck on restoring this great place!
LOve the beautiful melody accompanying this video. So many options to be had with this building & what choices for a large gathering for the family. Keen to see the progress The Pethericks.
Amazing piece of property. Can’t wait to see what you do with it. The transformation will be fantastic. Thanks Lydia Canada
Amazing place, will be great to watch it develop into something wonderful, xx
How did we live before drones?? 😄 Such great footage thank you!! Amazing energy came through the video imagining how it looks in 6 months. Well done Billy!
Just discovered you and now need to follow your every step and can't wait to hear what you discover as you go along. Best wishes with all the adventures on this project.
Fantastic......I want to see more, perfect project.
Wow amazing views. Loved the video. Can't wait to see you guys work you're magic ✨️ Can't beat owning history!
Gorgeous property, can't wait to see more and I am sure you find some hidden treasures as you start bringing this convent back to life..
You are living a dream of mine long ago. All good things to you!👍
l just subscribed and thank you for letting me ride along your blessings.
☺️
This would be a great place for upscale conventions and weddings. You could turn that courtyard into a beautiful, elegant garden for wedding receptions
