I think it would be a good idea to get hold of a retired nun or priest that lived there and do an interview or invite for a walk around. It does not matter if people are religious or not it is the history and richness of the history that matters. You can modify the walls and bring it back to original Physical status but you also have a richness and history of lives lived. I think that is a huge part of a heritage site and its restoration.

Those speakers had nothing to do with television or radio, they were for the sisters to hear the bell ring several times a day. I am a Benedictine monk and I can tell you, that we live all our lives by the sound of the bells. ;) We do not lift a finger without the sound of the bell.

Billy, please do not compare yourself to Michael, or to anyone else for that matter. Yes, he can be an eloquent speaker and has amazing musical talents, but you, like everyone else, have your own set of skills and talents. The work you have been doing lately on the chapel and chateau is nothing short of mastery. Husband, father, son, brother, friend, vlogger…you wear all of these hats successfully every day. Just be yourself with pride.

The convent has so much potential, apartments, coffee shop, candy shop, pastry/sandwich shop. The nuns bedrooms could be a minimalist hotel, where people can stay and experience what life was like for the nuns. Wedding events, endless possibilities.

The chapel could so easily become a wedding venue with those huge anti-rooms to serve as a reception space and dance floor. The small rooms to the side could be where the bride and her maids dress for the event. Sooo many options there. Best of luck guys!

Big buildings echo and footsteps are usually little critters that sound like big foot steps. Also, after you walk on old floors, they press down in the day and at night, as the air cools, they 'pop' up, sounding like footsteps. It's a great building so don't get too spooked. You're extremely lucky to have this historical place.

Those troughs or 'coffins' as you suggested them, are for keeping root vegetables. You put sand, or garden soil in them, then your root crops like carrots, turnips and potatoes. The sand or soil helps regulate the humidity in the vegetables. When the soil dries out you sprinkle it lightly with water so your food doesn't wither and dry up, or get too humid and sprout. This was a kitchen food supply storage.

@@keepitnoice Yes, in some parts of the country. Some call it a fruit room. Most commonly a root cellar is separate from the house, built into a small hill out back, or buried to make your own hill since dirt makes such a good insulator. With the lay out of the convent and hospital wing this property would ideal housing for the elderly. It could serve multiple levels of need from independent living with meals in the cafeteria, assisted living and also nursing home clients. You’ve got a bunch of hospital style rooms, railings in the hallways, a suitable kitchen and cafeteria, not to mention the elevator. Also the older folks would revel in the tranquil surrounds. Bonus,
the nuns would be delighted with this outcome. As a nurse and with 12 years of Catholic schooling in a French parish this is where my imagination took me as we toured the facility.

The convent usually had parlors for visitors on either side or both sides of the main entrance. Visitors were not allowed beyond this area . The living quarters consist of bed small table, jug and basin on the upper floors for privacy. Everything belonged to the convent, individual presents too, if you needed something it had to be approved by the superior. Good luck.

Just a thought: The room with many windows along the corridor may have had rows of beds, as to easily check on the not so severely sick. May have had curtains drawn at night.
The convent I knew had living quarters and bathrooms 🛀 on the upper floor, whereas the kitchen and dining area were on the first floor. They had a bell with rope on the top of the stairs and rang it several times a day for prayers and when there was a mass. The students of the school often tried to sneak in and take a peek inside the off limits area. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 good luck💞

using information from time team, The big rectory would be where the "hospital" would be. beds would line the sides with partitions. If the cubby hole cabinets is from original build, they would have medical supplies for the time. This hall was near chapel so those in beds could hear masses. this convent is contaminated with modern builds. There should be separate lodging for any male members and main convent. There should be areas where nuns would produce products to support convent. In the convent they had on show nuns would listen to mass through hole to chapel. there would be a meditation area for various prayer times during day. they said most convents followed a strict build plan.

I enjoyed the tour very much. I did wonder, if there’s any plumbing for bathrooms, in that I didn’t see any showers. But there must’ve been with all these people living there. Billy ,you and Michael, are naturals in front of a camera. I saw Philipp from ‘How to renovate a chateau without killing your partner” do a small clip advertising the eco flow electric charger. Kudos to you,Billy, for a great job promoting a great item. Greetings from Canada! Niagara Falls area!

the convent I was in in Ottawa was called , Mt St Joseph ,in Vanier , Ottawa , Canada , ,,, but the chapels your fixing up, if you want the public to enjoy them you can still have masses in there , and you can get these chapels re-consecrated back to God by a Catholic priest or Bishop which would be nice , ,, and I bet you that many people would come to those masses because deep down they miss having these old traditional religious places back in places ,, where people can go ,,, hope you do

Bonus with the chipper you now have mulch/compost for the courtyard and any garden areas... Grow the plants and "off" the weeds

Those pieces of marble are probable weights for the system that lifted things into the attic from the outside. BTW, might I say that is such a beautiful piece of history that you have bought. The craftsmanship in the doorways, and even the Louis staircase.......as a History nut just took my breath away. Here in America we really don't have anything in that era, for obvious reasons lol. I hope that you restore everything you can back to it's former glory, and make it an Inn for History tours.

I attended Catholic school, grades K-12, and 98% of my teachers were Nuns, with this in mind, if this building is going to be re-purposed, make sure an exorcism is done first before ever spending a night inside it.

No doubt, that granite planter is amazing ... You all are going to find so many treasures. The beauty of this place is going to be amazing. So fun to see what you all discover and how you are going to make it livable again. Wow, not too noisy either, and quick! The chips will be very useful. What about wedding venues? The stained glass is awesome. The bell tower looks awesome. It is going to be interesting to see how you all use this property. Glad That Sadie and Mo will have an apartment there and I hope they can have more space than they showed the other day on Sadie's video ...

Great sponsorship video! Plus the product helps you! I am in awe at the original features of the convent! The doors to the bedrooms! That staircase! Even the suspended ceiling in the chapel! All the cabinetry! The pantry shelving! It is so beautiful and will be even more beautiful after it is restored! Good job on you and Gwendolyn for purchasing such a lovely property! And the new toy you bought, the wood chipper...omg you are such a great bargin shopper!!! Well done!

Billy, I would lay odds that you will have a major media station like the BBC breaking down your door to aid in the documentary filming and aid with subsidizing the restoration of this convent. You have done a wonderful job documenting this exciting project. I am looking forward to many hours of amazing content coming our way. No wonder your subscription rate skyrocket recently brilliant.

Billy and Michael, thank you for the tour! The nuns seem to have been totally obsessed with storage - every nook and cranny is crammed with cupboards and shelves. I totally agree with your intention to remove a lot of the walls and ceilings that were added after the original building was constructed (especially by the grand staircase). I especially appreciated the shots of Mick the Boss doing what he does best.

Yes, Billy, in the refectory, this closet with square shelving, could have been a place to put ones cutlery, drinking glass, napkin (and maybe even the dinnerplate). Kitchen has nice big windows! What a huge pantry! Gorgeous staircase (Louis XIV)! Also, the Bedroomdoors are in the Louis XIV style + old key locks. (oh and I see you recognize the beauty of these doors!) The Belltower is absolutely spectacular! swell as the suspended Ceiling of the Chapel! And in the Ward, I thought it was sweet to pu pink toilet seats. In the meantime, .... the courtyard t's being cleaned so incredibly fast!
I must say I was moved realizing with this tour all so many many Nuns had lived there, walked, eaten and died there...
Thank you Billy and Michael for the tour.

Absolutely amazing! Huge building. I would not open the stairway up to quickly until you decide your purpose for the building. Often stairways are closed in for fire code. Fascinating tour. The building is really in good condition. As a former convent owner I think its magnificent ! Can't wait for more. Great video.
