I’ll never figure out why someone would brush a wall by hand, with a small 4” brush no less, rather than use a roller or spray gun to do the job! It’s 2-3x faster, and has a superior finish WITHOUT amateur brush marks. Unless that’s the look you’re going for. (Though they’re needed for proper edging and touch up.) Why on earth put yourself through all that extra effort, ergo wasted time and effort, for a sub-standard finish in the end. I guess being Canadian we take things like that for granted not to mention we’ve been paint professionally since 1947. Overall you’ve done a great job and look forward to your ongoing story… Crack On!
The Convent looks amazing already. Billy, you have such a spirit of excellence toward all you do. Just think how you were meant to land right where you are and make all this happen for your family and the whole town. It’s only just begun… God bless!
Billy, I hate when your videos end! I could watch them for hours on end! It amazing that you could take out that entire bookcase all by yourself! Keep up the awesome work.
When you talk about blocking up fireplaces, remember the context. I grew up in an 1805 house still mostly heated by fireplaces. It got awful, and this is a warm climate. Steam heat and lower ceilings would make a massive difference in quality of life at the convent. It would have been just frigid in there all winter. Utterly miserable. The stove was on the hearth because it replaced fire. The kitchen was laid out around the fireplace so it was the best place for the stove. As a museum docent in an 1840’s kitchen this was also a huge improvement to the nuns lives. Before the 20th century the leading cause of death for women was childbirth, the second was by fire. Skirts caught flame from fireplaces and cooking was the most dangerous. No antibiotics, or any clue about germs. Gruesome death. Every change we think looks clumsy in fact vastly improved comfort and safety for the women who spent their lives in this building. We’re so used to modern comforts we forget how miserable life could get even for the wealthy before modernity.
My mom's a docent as well. Usually for 18th century homes and lands. I agree. She has caught her skirts on fire before, and I am so thankful she wasn't hurt worse.
Not only is the fireplace amazing, but it was so refreshing seeing that bookcase torn out without any major damage! So many people would've just taken a sledge hammer to it, when really, it's a perfectly good piece of furniture that can have a whole new life somewhere else more appropriate. I hope those are the plans for it somewhere. I love seeing demo that actually takes into consideration how much they're sending to landfills and what doesn't have to have that sad end. Not to mention having things you can sometimes sell for a few bucks that otherwise might have just been thrown away lol. Any extra bit of money, never unwanted during a renovation.
I'm amazed by how that book case was constructed so that you did not have to destroy it. Perhaps it can be used elsewhere, or sold. I think the fire place is interesting, but not particularly beautiful. In the kitchen, people made use of the space according to their needs, just as you are doing. Love the quality of the videos, music, plant life, action!
Billy-you have a fantastic eye and are quite the storyteller. Thank you for bringing us along on each wonderful discovery of this magnificent building! You and your family are breathing life back in to her. It’s as if she can’t wait to tell her story!
I hope you all get rain sometime very soon. I can’t believe how burnt up all the vegetation is looking.. I love watching this building and it’s secrets being slowly revealed. Great job!
Rain and thunder storms forecast for today in n France. If the ground is as dried out as ours in Scotland it takes a while to sink in and floods. Climate change is a bitch.
@@Nighterlev Exactly! Everything is blamed on climate change these days. Where I live in the US it's cool for Aug and we've had tons of rain and lots of rain in the forecast. If it's climate change why aren't we unseasonably hot and dry?
An amazing treasure this convent. Imagine wedding parties being able to be held in that room when the partition comes down. A wedding reception in the old Convent....... HOW PERFECT. STUNNING FIREPLACE 😍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Excellent news. Was wondering what you were up to and was missing your amazing vlog. The quality of the work you do with restoration and editing is one of the best I've watched. Very impressed.
Good to see you Billy. Have missed you all. Will be wonderful to have daily videos again! I'm SO glad you saved that fireplace and brought it out. It's amazing.
the cinematography on this channel is top notch! The convent is so huge it seems like it would take the rest of your life to restore it. I can't imagine the vast sums of money it will require...
It made me sooo happy that you didn't just take a hammer to those lovely (however ill-placed) bookcases! It shows your forethought and sensibility to take the extra steps to save them for another project, either for you or for somebody else!
So happy to see you cracking on Billy. Hard work agrees with you, you look great! The fire places are magnificent. I noticed you used a paint roller on the last door you painted. Excited to see the finished office space. Thanks Billy🙏🏻❤️
Wow, what a difference that makes, with the wall gone its going to be an amazing space, great for conferences etc, and maybe a serviceable kitchen, a wedding or event space. Just love what your doing with it all, the "boss" must be really pleased with how its growing into such a beautiful place. Also the garden area is growing into a beautiful space.
A pity there's only one like button because apart from the obvious interest in your adventures at the convent the bokehlicious opening shot , the colourgrading and the FPV drone bit add dimension to your storytelling. Always a feast!
When you removed the first unit inside the fireplace, I was like "aaaah oui, c'est tellement mieux". This massive fireplace definitely deserve to be again, the centerpiece of the room.
I just want to share my admiration with you, Billy. You are now making and presenting your videos like you have never done something else. You not only caught up with Michael but even surpassed him. It is such a pleasure to watch your videos and I admire your stamina and creativity. Chapeau to you.
I miss not seeing you on Sundays. Seem to get withdrawals when you're not on! Thanks for telling us when you won't be on for a weekend. I Don't want to Miss a thing!
Oh my! I'm a Canadian and I want to take the first plane to France. I would love to be there to help out. The whole group is hard working and upbeat. I would definitely crack on!
I actually can’t believe how much you’ve gotten done Billy! You definitely need to get little green paint to sponsor you. You’re getting enough of their paint they should! The fireplace looks fantastic! Why anybody would cover it up with a bookcase I have no idea. Although those nuns did all kinds of interesting things to the rooms. Really can’t wait until the kitchen is done. That’ll be really fantastic. Wanted to know on a sidenote… How Michael is doing. Did he ever finish the cottage? I wish him well and hope he is flourishing. Sending love as always from California💜🤟🏻😎🇺🇸
A stunning find Billy! Amazing how much history has been hidden by modernizations that made the convent more functional, but did not maintain the original architecture. Love how you are trying to keep the original structures while making it a lovely, livable space👍🏻👏🏻
I just love it. Love following the reno, hate waiting till sunday but u make the wait worthwhile, I catch up on sadie's chanel to for the inbetweens . My fave is the garden, I just want to jump on a plane with my gumboots n rake n tent and help clear out the gardens... prune up the trees and smell those lovely roses. Of course I'd want to know the history of the roses, their age and so on, it may not be a variety too common now. I could get lost there forever.
Great shots. You do have one of the most stunning château’s. The convent is looking amazing too. The village must be very happy you purchased it. Crack on ;)
I'm so glad you have given this convent life again from the time u bought it you could see it slowly comming alive as Thank you for bringing us along for the ride.
What an amazing fireplace! Hope you are reusing the bookshelves. Those would be great for just about anything from bookshelves to storage for the boys for a play area. You have wonderful ideas for the convent. Love your videos.
I think the fireplaces were covered up just for pure practical reasons. They needed a working stove and the bookcases were used that way as well. They didn't destroy any of the beauty just covered it up for you to find.
Billy, when are we going to see a 'Project' board showing what the divisions of areas and what with-in those divisions are the work that needs to be accomplished and the expected time frames to be expected for each? As we watch the videos, it appears as if there is a lot of jumping from project to project, seldom seeing the work entailed to complete it before going on to the next planned endeavor. If a Contractor were given this item to remove and renovate the room, it would most assuredly be 'Work for today'. Outside of that, we are enthralled with the entire project. There is so much entertainment in watching this grow, much as was the Chateau.
i personally would try and get the fireplace up and going again, make it functional, i love a good fire on a cold day! nothing beats good old wood heat
the landscape around the chateau looks so brown and dry, I've heard and seen how warm its been in Europe... hope some rain comes soon. Love the transformation of the Convent
Seeing all the pathways and original details emerge from the overgrowth and neglect is so gratifying. Even the fruit trees seem to be putting on a harvest to thank you for giving them breathing room once again.
Yes I was very disappointed with the ending of lost as well thank you very much. That little find made my day. Billy I have to say you are the best. The work that you’ve done here is so incredible. Also the fact that you have the ownership to make the decisions that you’re making and the wherewithal to follow through with them it’s better than this old house and construction manuals put together. Crack on Billy!
I enjoyed this week's video. Things are looking so good. I love the transformation in the courtyard. I would still like to see more of the back yard area that had been so wild. Is it cleared? Were secrets reviled? Lovely benches, walls, or a cemetery? Your progress is amazing. Thank you!
What I love is that you respected the bookcase. Instead of smashing it to bits to remove it you took it apart. Now, I'm guessing you'll be able to sell the bookcase and keep it out of a landfill. Well done!
If that room with the bookcase hiding the fireplace was used as a classroom, could that burn mark on the floor be heat damage from some kind of stove to keep the classroom warm in the winter? Could have even been a barrel, maybe there was no easy way to heat the class and a teacher got frustrated and didn't care about potential damage.
It's really coming along now. It's going to look so beautiful when it's done. Thanks for sharing this place with us and the fireplace is amazing. That room is almost as big as my whole house.Whatever you use it for, it's going to look great.
Billy, every Sunday just before 11am Pacific Time where I live, I make a coffee and grab a pastry to prepare for your next video update. It's a joy to watch the progress and how your intuition leads you to the next great thing. The restoration seems to have a spiritual quality to it; I know the real time sense of it is hard work, sweat and likely a lot of money, but your videos of quiet diligence, humble explanations and utilitarian attention glides us along softly along.
it's great to see old properties be given a new lease on life, instead of just rotting into the ground. the cool thing about renovating something old, is that even if you think you got everywhere done, something else might be found
Great progress is happening. The offices are looking wonderful. Uncovering the beautiful fireplaces is magnificent. Love the neon "crack on " sign, So cool. Great job Billy!
These videos bring me so much peace. It's good to know that there is beauty out there, and that you not only know how to appreciate it but also how to present it.
Sorry again for the late comment i have been away. I trust you and your family had a lovely holiday short as it was it was much needed and now i see you are cracking on with the work again. I love your artistic crack on writing on the wall too! and those window blinders and fireplace discoveries. I look forward to your daily vlogs again Billy! Crack On ! see you next Sunday Cheers
The place is coming along, little by little! Before long, it won’t be recognizable from how you bought it! That big room with the fireplace, you just opened up, must have been some sort of grand reception room of some kind! Have you spoken to the Catholic dioceses about the history of the convent, and maybe the original floor plans or architectural plans, for the place? All the best!
It seems like more of an adventure than anything else. I would love to be part of it. Seeing the landscaping discoveries or the hidden features within the Convent have me glued to the screen. The let down, as the episode ends , only makes me wanting for more to view. Fantastic work!
Beautiful photography, especially the soft outside shots of your Dad and Michael (?) working. The berries and apples look like a still life. The courtyard is unrecognizable. Gorgeous! It seems the convent can breathe again. Love that you keep finding and rescuing treasures.
Love your regard to historical features and great work ethic Billy. The convent is looking wonderful from the outside already. I could cry looking at all the dry grass etc around the Chateau where once the green grass grew so fast it gave you lots of lawn mowing to do. I imagine it is very sad for all of you living there too. 🥰
Uncovering that huge fireplace looked like so much work, but entirely worth it. Neon “crack on” sign perfect for your future office. Always look forward to your Sunday vlogs and happy to hear you will be going back to daily episodes. Be safe! Maine USA
Hi Billy loved your video I have been looking at the past videos to see where your Mum and dad's place is but can't find anything,I know it's a silly question but can you tell me where you all live.Please. Regards from Hereford UK Ps when you have paying guests can they rent a couple of the rooms.
The Convent keeps on giving ……the potential is endless and I can’t wait to see the results of your hard work Billy and your vision for the place….! Love every video …..I’m so glad you moved on from TV and did it yourselves……your whole family is amazing……! Thank you for sharing it all with us ! X❤️
I enjoy your channel so much! I just discovered it when you purchased the convent and I have been hooked ever since. Thank you for sharing your renovation adventures. LOVE THEM! All of them.
Good morning Billy, my goodness there is not a lazy bone or hair in your body!! I find it amazing how you just work through all the challenges consistently. Nothing fazes you. It seems to me, you are given an idea how to approach the projects and you work your way through it, and the most amazing part is - you hardly get dirty, regardless all the dust and sweat!! I am sure Gwendolyn is very proud of you as well as your family. I agree, the amazing finds of the fire places is mind blowing, why did they cover it up, no wonder those Convents were so cold. The room would be amazing once the partition is removed, it would transform into something totally lovely. Also the kitchen, in years past, we can see many a chateaux having those huge fire places to cook and it warmed the room, it was an amazing life "if you were rich|" like a Noble Man!! I am sure you are very happy for buying the old Convent and discovering so much past history. Crack on as you say, kind regards.
Wonderful video! So appreciative that you are sharing your restorations. I don't know how you manage to do so much hard work and yet bring such wonderful videos in such a short amount of time. Thank you, your family, and to everyone on your team. 😊
I really like the old fireplaces with an Aga range installed inside when the fireplace can't be restored to working order - nice in a kitchen. I was reading that estates were taxed on how many chimney's they had, you could have even more hidden fireplaces 🙃🤔🥸
What a fabulous big room right off the courtyard. ❤❤ Thank you for this beautiful video. You've really come a long way. I loved the beginning with the sword in the stone and chateau and grounds shots. So pretty. Love to you and the family. 😘
New subscriber chiming in from across the pond in South Dakota, USA. Absolutely delighted to have found your channel. I love what you and your family are doing. Kudos and well done!!
Billy Great To See The Wonderful Fireplace. And Another One In The Kitchen, I Think There will be Lots More Of Things You Find Over The Months. Have a lovely Week. Xx 😊😁
Every time you pass your elevator with caution tape, my 1st thought is Sheldon from the Big Band Theory. Lol
Same!
Me too, especially as you are filmed turning to go up and downstairs! 😂
I thought the same 😂
LOL!
I’ll never figure out why someone would brush a wall by hand, with a small 4” brush no less, rather than use a roller or spray gun to do the job!
It’s 2-3x faster, and has a superior finish WITHOUT amateur brush marks. Unless that’s the look you’re going for. (Though they’re needed for proper edging and touch up.)
Why on earth put yourself through all that extra effort, ergo wasted time and effort, for a sub-standard finish in the end.
I guess being Canadian we take things like that for granted not to mention we’ve been paint professionally since 1947.
Overall you’ve done a great job and look forward to your ongoing story…
Crack On!
I don't know how you guys don't get overwhelmed by the sheer amount of stuff that needs doing. It's amazing how far you've come already!
Agree!
Maybe Billy will share with us how he maintains vision, perspective, etc with the actual implementation. How about it, @Billy?
The Convent looks amazing already. Billy, you have such a spirit of excellence toward all you do. Just think how you were meant to land right where you are and make all this happen for your family and the whole town. It’s only just begun… God bless!
I'm ooo
I love that you salvaged the book case. So many people just sledgehammer what they don't want.
Always looking for your next video Billy👍
More Please.
Am a retired Architectural Designer so could watch this for hours and never get bored.
Thank you Billy and all 👍
Billy, I hate when your videos end! I could watch them for hours on end! It amazing that you could take out that entire bookcase all by yourself! Keep up the awesome work.

You don’t know how happy I am you didn’t sledgehammer the book shelf like they do in all the new DIY shows these days. ❤️
I'm amazed by how that book case was constructed so that you did not have to destroy it. Perhaps it can be used elsewhere, or sold. Allison I think the old girl is starting to tell her story. She was just waiting for the right persons, Billy and family, to come along.
I am excited! Each time you make a discovery is just another step closer to restoring this beautiful convent. I am happy you made this purchase.
I hope you all get rain sometime very soon. I can’t believe how burnt up all the vegetation is looking.. I love watching this building and it’s secrets being slowly revealed. Great job!

My husband was caretaker to an old abandoned seminary in the 80’s. It was eventually torn down. I’m so glad you are restoring the old convent. ☺️
I was think the same thing! Every time I watch about the Convent I think of the children's book The Secret Garden.
Excellent news. Was wondering what you were up to and was missing your amazing vlog. The quality of the work you do with restoration and editing is one of the best I've watched. Very impressed.
You may be the first vlogging RUclipsr I’ve watched that has a real job. Nice work.
Good to see you Billy. Have missed you all. Will be wonderful to have daily videos again! I'm SO glad you saved that fireplace and brought it out. It's amazing.

thank you
When you removed the first unit inside the fireplace, I was like "aaaah oui, c'est tellement mieux". This massive fireplace definitely deserve to be again, the centerpiece of the room.
Great to see progress being made and architectural treasures being uncovered. Loved the shots of the ripening fruits. Thank you Billy!
Billy, your videos bring such honest pleasure in a wicked old world. Best wishes to you and your family.
Another amazing find! Makes you wonder what is still to come.
Billy you have a Heart ♥️ of Gold quite rare now a days
Great idea! Out with the bookcase - back with the fireplace! It’s wonderful!! Cabinetry could certainly be reused on office or condo.
It is a well made bookcase, calling it ugly is a bit of a stretch.
So fabulous to see all the utilitarian elements stripped back Billy- they truly are an eyesore. Love the beautiful grand fireplace 😙🥰
I just want to share my admiration with you, Billy. You are now making and presenting your videos like you have never done something else. You not only caught up with Michael but even surpassed him. It is such a pleasure to watch your videos and I admire your stamina and creativity. Chapeau to you.
Wow...The Convent has progressed Beautifully!!! Great job Billy...

It makes sense that they "hid" the kitchen fire place with the necessities for a cooker though. Since that was the entire purpose of the fireplace.
If that room with the bookcase hiding the fireplace was used as a classroom, could that burn mark on the floor be heat damage from some kind of stove to keep the classroom warm in the winter? It's really coming along now. It's going to look so beautiful when it's done. Thanks for sharing this place with us and the fireplace is amazing. That room is almost as big as my whole house.Whatever you use it for, it's going to look great.

Best and most fitting catchphrase ever Billy!!
Wow! So interesting! Welcome back to the Magnificent Pethericks, I hope you enjoyed some time away. I’m praying for rain for you all. Poor France.
That looks like kitchen units!! Had the same in my house when we moved in ! All gone now! Caron
These videos bring me so much peace. It's good to know that there is beauty out there, and that you not only know how to appreciate it but also how to present it.

Be safe!

Hi! You've a gorgeous picture on your profile! Just decided to stop by and say hi! I hope my compliment is appreciated ❤️
Good to see a roller at last. Keep the brushes for the historic restorations. 👍
It's amazing what your finding in between all these walls. Hope everyone in the family is doing well.
What a lot of progress. Great fireplace find and love the landscaping of inner convent.
Love your demo and garden clean ups so gratifying!
The fireplace is beautiful, so happy you uncovered it!!!
Yay... Daily videos returning!!!
