When I was a little child and got scared of dark places or my imaginary ghosts, demons etc., My mother would show me Goddess Kali and tell me to take her name and remember her and she would take care of the demons. It was really helpful.

Also, in Hinduism, the ultimately reality is called the universal consciousness unlike the concept of God in other traditions. That's questionable. Not trying to offend anyone but that Kaali looks more like a vicious black blood-thirsty demon/witch with many hands holding weapons and severed heads.. Any normal person would faint to death if they suddenly encounters someone terrifying like that in real life... Idk why anyone would think her as a protective motherly goddess ? She's much different than what you hear normally about glorious angelic beings full of light.

I remember growing up in a fairly abusive home, Dad was an alcoholic and very violent, tried to drown me, pushed my brother and I in front of a train, very violent towards my mother, brother and I.
Mum was Hindu but Dad was Catholic, but as things got desperate and stuff like Child Protective services were useless; Mum started turning to religion, seemed like her only option, she even sat us down and said "I'm going to invoke Kali, because I want you two to be safe" she showed us a painting of Kali, said that she looks scary but she's not a monster, she deals with monsters. Probably the goriest image I remember seeing as a child was the garland of severed heads but Mum explained they're all the severed heads of criminals and murderers and bad people.
And one day, almost directly after we finished doing the prayer to ask for Kali's protection; Dad was coming home all drunk, ready to beat us when he suddenly stopped frozen, got in the car and left. It was extremely out of character, We were all shocked.
It wasn't until later when Mum was seeing a psychic and the psychic kind of got a fright from seeing her, she immediately asked "did you invoke Kali?" Mum asked "how did you know?" She then said "She's standing right behind you".
Her psychic then recommended that for most cases; if you want protection, it's more wise to invoke Durga for most cases, Kali is great for emergencies when you have no other option; but she can be brutal, walks a fine line.
So I thank Kali for everything she's done to protect us, although I hope that the circumstances that caused us to pray to her to begin with don't arise.

What truthfully took place is either your mother had enough deep contemplation and detailed thought to go along with desire and reason which also went along with a fundamental of reality which is life it sounds like she had and all the proper ingredients for creating her own Hitman for lack of a better term. See you can make an entity that is capable of thought incapable of figuring out different situations that you personally are unaware of and you can make this entity to protect or to destroy but not many people can make one. But it's very possible if you know how but it was not the original Cali you hear of although the original Kali I'm sure it's still out there somewhere but was created the same way that I just told you your mother's was created because mankind created all the gods that's what the fall is we don't realize what we are we think a God is higher than us when the truth is we're the thing that makes gods because we are a little seed of the all creator on our journey to grow into having our own reality therefore kind of like a baby learning how to walk we kind of learn how to do things that we will be able to easily do in the next life. However I wouldn't pursue trying to make one because they don't have emotions like you and I do if there's a job to do they do it without thinking very animalistic so if somebody you don't want to get hurt gets in the way they will get hurt without you realizing it so best be careful and because it was created for you is all you have to do is call upon it in whichever way the marker was set up for that to be so be careful and even passive thought on the matter

Good story. Even I, a not-knowing, unwise western tourist had the good fortune of saying hello to Durga and ask her to protect both me and India from whatever demons I might carry around, when I first visisted India. Now, only slightly less not-knowing and unwise, I thank ganesh fo not letting me stumple into a temple for Kali upon that fateful day of breaking my India-traveller virginity. Kali would have belched a burp of fire, ripped the demons from my soul and then went straight to Denmark, where I live, and sought out their roots to rip them out as well, then backtracking my journey to eradicate all evidense of their existence right up till the point of me Stepping inside her temple. ..As it is, my life-itinerary hopefully will bring me to Calcutta sometime in 2028-2030. Then I will do puja to her there, and give thanks for her stilling her hand over us for that long (a lot can happen geo-politically in those ten years from now to then, and it *do* look sort of grim to anyone hoping to travel a peaceful and friendly world.) But with luck, some Bhudda-shine lightening up influencial minds and by virtue of a life devoted to a truthfull experience - there will be water.

This is such a fascinating story. reminds me of when I was around 7 years old and my brother was 2. We were playing outside, hide and seek in the evening and my brother was found hiding in a corner. only he wasn't hiding. He convulsing and frothing at the mouth. I called my dad and we immediately rushed him to a hospital. I remember my brother screaming but it didn't sound human. more like a squeal. like and animal in pain. It took 5 adults to restrain him and multiple attempts to sedate him before he calmed down. They had no idea what happened and the doctors discharged him. We knew he was not okay. For the next few days he wasn't my brother. He wasn't there. hard to explain but my mother started being scratched and grabbed at night. my brother was getting worse. looking more drained every day. eventually my parents went to see our Guru. to this day I don't know what was discussed exactly but I know we did a prayer invoking Kali and had to give a sacrifice. I was terrified. I thought Kali looked so scary. I thought she was the monster making brother sick but my dad explained something very bad was affecting my baby brother and Kali was going to fight it. He explained that Kali is a mother and loves her children. she would not harm a small child. she protects us. immediately after the prayer my brother was his normal self. to this day we worship Kali in our house. I think if it wasn't for her my brother would have died.

Why are you confusing a person who wants to build a relationship with Kali Maa.
Hinduism's very strength is the many options given to a seeker depending on his emotional state and his intellectual level. The vedas tho highly respected is not the only scriptures available. There are principle upanishads, puranas, agamas and some even take the path of tantra. There is no such thing as only this scripture is correct. Even Bhagavadgita is accepted as an authoritative scripture by many.
Hindu scholars and philosophers constantly discuss both the nirguna and saguna espects of Brahman. Nirguna to describe brahman in an atributeless form and saguna to describe brahman with qualities and atributes. Both are used to describe the Parabrahman or absolute reality in its transcendent and immanent nature and as such involves neither negation nor inclusion.
A person has the freedom to choose any form that resonates with his inner self as his Ishta Devata and begin his or her path in spirituality.
Hinduism is unlike abrahamic traditions that basically have a 1 size fits all scripture.
Great Maha purushas like Ramakrishna Paramahansa worshiped at the lotus feet of Kali Maa to reach the highest levels of spiritual realisation. And he gave us Swami Vivekananda who took Hinduism to the larger world.
I believe yr intention was good, but please be careful with what you advice people.

Not really. The trimurti, which is the cosmic trio that controls the universe itself and is solely responsible for its birth, its functioning and its destruction, leading to rebirth and restarting of the cycle, are all represented as being masculine. They are the deities that are responsible for the world as it is. Nothing is stronger than brahman (not brahma).
Kalis stroy doesn't really show the dominance of women over men, it shows dominance of rage and violence and temper over human minds, and the struggle between a human and his/her emotions of anger and wrath. The genders these deities are given is only a means to personify them, to make their interactions seem more human. The personification is just an element of storytelling, what these men and women in Hindu legends represent is not the genders they are presented as, but the emotions these deities represent. Kali represents anger and destruction of evil, which are both formless and gender less. Similarly the trimurti represents birthing, living and destruction, which are formless and gender less as well.
Take these deities as you will, either as the formless human emotion they represent or their personification, which is only a shell given to them, but Hinduism never dictates that men are inferior to women. In all these legends, if you wish to take them in their face values as their personifications, all the goddesses that are the wives of all the gods call their husbands "prabhu", literally translating to my lord or God. Their wives are shown to go to extreme lengths to care for them, calm them down, to pray to and worship them, and love them. The husbands do the same. If anything, these legends dictate the importance of both women and men in different domains, none more important than the other.

🌸 Durga Mata (depicted with tiger or lion) and Kali (depicted with skulls etc) are both consorts of Shiva
Shiva’s first wife was Sati then reincarnated as Parvati. She in turn had different manifested forms or Shakti, such as Durga who I turn can bring forth Kali from her forehead, only during violent rage. Kali translates as the black one, due to her skin.
They are all same, Durga just creates a different identity or form to eliminate demons, it was during a battle she created this powerful side to herself. One in particular demon Raktabija was able to spawn new demons or replicas of himself via every drop of blood shed.
By drinking all his blood he couldn’t clone himself and was then defeated.

To my knowledge I was thought that Ma Jagadumba was created from the combined powers of Brahma, Vishnu , Lakshmi , Shiva and Ma Parvati. Thus Ma Jagadumba was born when she realise that the demon mahishasur could not die she transformed to Kali ma and depose of him . I believe in this theory because in the Maha Kali imagine she has the chakra weapon of Lord Vishnu in one of her arms.

    • @minithankappan1226
      @minithankappan1226 3 года назад

If indeed you had a dream about a dark widow goddess associated with saturn, then it has to be the tantric goddess Dhumavati, also called Dhumrakali or Dhumravarahi. She is a tantric goddess, one of the Mahavidyas or ten modes of knowledge.
Her name means one with a smoke like form. She is a ferocious goddess, one of her kind and people usually don't dare worship her since she embodies primordial energy sans the male principle. Which means she is the power of dissolution or Pralaya.
Usually energy or Shakti is with the male Principle which makes her auspicious. But Dhumavati is perhaps the only great goddess described as a widow.
She is associated with planet saturn and is said to be the presiding goddess of saturn but some accounts also connect her with the south node. She has the crow for a symbol and is old and having a voracious appetite. She swallows or draws into herself every manifest thing thus making them disappear into the womb of time. It is said that she even swallowed her spouse thus leaving her alone at the time of dissolution.
Kali is never described as a widow. She is the spouse of Shiva, the eternal one.

      RelangaceDE Da'wa .
To say that hinduism derives from pre - indo - godheads is argumentative. So lets not get into that for now.
You say in cultures around the world people believe in a sole creator deity.
Hindu scriptures say there is one totally atributeless power beyond the comprehension of the human mind and the hindu rishis(sages) call this power "Brahman". But the hindu rishis also believed that since this Brahman is infinite, it could also be approached in an infinite number of ways.
The concept of monotheism from the hindu viewpoint is normally left to the yogis and rishis at a higher level of spiritual understanding, the reason being if you are not spiritually evolved you will misinterprate this 1 god concept. This is what is basically happening to the abrahamic faiths. There is so much of conflict because they believe only their god is true and either they kill all disbelievers or try to save them from eternal damnation.
Hinduism on the other hand allows polytheism. Here you are free to choose which ever god yr emotions and intellect resonates with and through that chosen path u first start to develope your mind. Only when yr mind is mature and developed enough do you now contemplate on the Brahman.
In this way conflict is eradicated. Once the mind is ripe the realisation that all forms or paths eventually leads to 1 reality will come, so we are at peace with all religions and all paths.
This is the reason there is no such thing as conversion in hinduism because we believe all paths are correct, should it be practised in the right way. The very framework of hinduism also allows for healthy sceptism, because only in such an environment can one begin to investigate the truth.
The true purpose of spirituality is to lift the veil of illusion so that the very mystery of creation is revealed.

This is not a new argument. It has been there since religion came along. Wars have been fought over this, millions killed. But the good news is so many people all over the world are beginning to understand the concepts and beauty of hinduism. As the intelligence of man grows, he will reject anything that doesnt have a logical explanation to it. And in this respect ive not seen anything that even comes close to Sanathana Dharma - The eternal truth. Cheers and God bless Vitani.

@@veritasdeutsch6608 Lord Shiva is white because he is always in meditation and is a brahamchari so it's because of ojas Shakti on his body hes termed white not because of skin colour. He has bright radiance on his face that's y hes termed white.he is the guru of all yogis.
Sri Krishna is blue in colour because he is the god of all yogis and has a perfect body. One who attains perfection in yoga and reaches the physical limit acquires a blue body. That's y he has a blue body.
In reality they are supreme forces.
But when they take Avatar they acquire these bodies. And they all are the manifestations of the supreme reality the par braham that is formless limitless ever-present omnipotent omniscient and that which the senses cant understand.
That par braham manifests as Trinity.
      Vishnu, brahma and shiva
Brahma is born from Vishnu..lord Shiva is just yogic form of lord Vishnu. But all three are one and manifestation of the supreme.
Lord Vishnu then again manifests into three forms first is the maha Vishnu who takes Avatar as lord Rama or Sri Krishna.
Second in every atom of this whole universe.
And third in the heart of every being whether it's demon or dieties or creatures or humans etc.
Lord Brahma is called the creator because he is the grandfather of all beings. He is the largest being of this material world. He is the creator of all dieties , humans, demons, etc etc and of all celestial beings.
And lord Shiva ...shiva means the pious one or that which is not. He is the destroyer. He is responsible for destruction of the universe for recreation. He is also called Bholenath that means the innocent god because he gets pleased very easily. Anyone who prays to him whole heartedly he gets easily pleased and grants boon. There's no special arrangements needed for his Pooja. One can pray him in his heart and offer anything. His innocent nature is because he is always meditating on God.
These are Trinity. They are neither masculine nor feminine. Now the energy of the supreme reality is the feminine form of god. Such as goddess Durga or goddess Mahakali. They are a necessity for creation. All the material bodies of this universe is shiva and energy by which these bodies work is Shakti or goddess Parvati.
Mother Durga is the feminine form of the supreme. She gives fruits acc to actions. It is her energy due to which everyone lives in illusion. People think they are body now this is the illusion they are actually soul which is part of supreme. From here on purana ends and vedic philosophy starts.
Purans are about celestial beeings and hiw all this universe works while Vedas are about earthy sciences and their use.
Whatever is depicted in puranas and vedas are reality. They not only happened once but happens in human body and in each and every atom of the universe.
      I hope this helps.

Thugees were demonized by British through Atrocity Literature, Thugees were tribals who waged guerilla war against British in Central India and refused to give up on their forest land thus British used literature to demonize them and showing them of worshipping of dark powers or something who committed human sacrifice. And later on introduced the word 'Thug' which very commonly used in English now and in Indian languages 'Thug' whose meaning is a bit changed from English word and it means 'someone who is a cheat' in India. And this is the damage British did to the identity of a tribal group which didn't wanted to let its land go but who cares for truth cause in Colonial Era books its written that they performed Human Sacrifices but on other hand no one finds such mention in any Indian literature prior to that era.

Kevin Aldrich. The answer is yes and no. Yes the british being predominently christian demonised everything they cud about the practises of the hindu religion. The "thugies" were specifically targeted because they fought against british rule. The thugies worshiped Kali Maa so the british demonised them as worshiping an evil goddess who demands blood. There was no such thing, Kali Maa never asked for this. Almost every freedom fighter worshiped the mother goddess in her form as a evil slayer like Kali Maa or Durga Maa or Chamunda Maa.
The concept of sacrifies existed since civilisation existed. U can even see this in the old testment, in the Quran and so on. Meat eating people normally do this during a feast after which they partake in eating the meat. So some people do practise these kind of worship. There are those who justify this by saying the Mother drinks blood so it is ok to offer her this. But hindu scriptures are in poetic form that always has a story behind the story. There will be one story to the ignorant mind and another deeper message to the true seeker. There is a verse saying Kali Maa cut of the demon Raktabeeja's head and drank his blood without allowing his blood to touch the ground because it is believed that when a drop of his blood touched the ground another Raktabeeja wud arise. But when u analyse "Raktabeeja" further it means " the seed of desire". It has nothing to do with blood as per say but more of Desire. What it really means is one desire will lead to another and that to another. Uncontrolable desire is what keeps us trapped in this cycle of life and death. So Kali Maa says offer me this "Seed of desire" within you and i shall grant you moksha. Stories are told that she is ashamed for stepping her husband thats why her tongue is sticking out. That is a story for children. The true meaning is offer all yr desires and evil thoughts at my feet and I will grant you "Shivahood". (Shiva at her feet)
Kali Maa is the Mother who takes a ferocious form to protect her loving children - us. The only "offering" she asks is our love, nothing else. A child is normally appeased by a toy, but when a child refuses all these "toys (earthly desires)" but only cries for its mother, then the "Mother" will come. Jai Kali Maa.

Thuggies are also said to be both hindus and muslims who worshipped Kali and mostly killed people by strangulation.
If that's true then why so many common Indians were killed by them?
And by the way, Kali was worshipped all over India at that time too, not only by thuggies.

To understand her by literal conversion of texts is almost impossible.
The westerners have a belief of core book as a doctrine must have. In Sanatan dharma, doctrinization is evil. Though that is allowed for productive purposes like knowledge sharing or special trainings like marshalarts or traditional cultural studies. Hence Sanatan dharma is not book centric. Veda is one of many books of guidances of Sanatan dharma. It's significance is not in it's script but kind of enlightenment it provides to the visualization capabilities of readers of Veda. So not all aspect of Sanatan dharma must be compared by Veda texts.
Kali is not mentioned in Veda. Few vedists compare a yakshini with figure of Kali as once they used to compare Indra with Bramha which was clarified by better ones.
Kali can be found in Bhagwati Purana. Yes Purana are older than Veda and are observations by visionaries predating to Vedas.
The conjunction of vision to favourable and beneficiary and only accounting the favour and benefits to outer attributes is a falasy/deceiving gesture of outlook towards the world.
Yes though it is thought in western and middle eastern culture that women and materials are made for beneficiary usage only and everything else including thunderstorms are all about punishments.
    Well that's so sweet !!
But our way of vision is a bit more grown up. Because we are a knowledge centric culture. Hence we look for knowledge and well being even in what superficially may look horrible.
Because we recognized, horror as a byproduct of resistances of self. Most of which associates with our preferential orders. We are also enough evolved to accept that not all are for serving a preference. Infact it is this clash of preferences which is the source of all what is violent and impacts evil on civilizations.
This is so because the eternal reality in many forms taught us about the same with examples. Kali is one of those projection who taught us and teaches us to transcend that tininess of outlooks and visualization. Which would eventually open us up for each other and only self's associativity will no more be concerns of life. The tininess of self-centered view for everyone and everything had been the characters of all the devil's who are slayed by our Godliness like Goddes Kali.
Thus the first and most prominent reasons of Kali Worship is liberation from finiteness of thoughts and preferences. This is just 1 of billions of aspects of holiness showered by the Goddess.
    Thanks and regards.

Pls do yr reseach before making idiotic statements. There is absolutely no relation of sati to hinduism. The was some practise in places like nepal but those were limited to certain tribes. Stone incription from the 12th century shows this practise started during muslim invasion. Women rather than become slaves to the invaders used to immolate themselves. There are written documents by the muslim historians who used to call this act " jauhar"
Please go read up. Lots of info on this.

      @amyra8159 5 лет назад +1

@Chaos Burrito people like you who comes after reading one antihindu article and thinks that they know everything should first search more about Sanatan dharm from correct resources. According to Sanatan dharm killing any living being is a sin, that's why suicide is also a sin. Those who kills themselves have to suffer a long cycle of life and death again and again. They don't get salvation easily. Thats why sati pratha is not something Sanatan dharm allows. Those are the corrupted rituals. India always suffered from the attacks of the foreign invaders. It was never stable. In ancient times women used to kill themselves to prevent themselves from the humiliation of slavery. With time this took a horrible form. People blindly follow any ritual without understanding it. Society was responsible for this.. This has nothing to do with the religion.

I'm a Western human woman, so I know my response isn't the same as someone that grew up in, or practices the religion. I maintain that despite this, I am human and so must be allowed access to all things humans have produced. So, you are welcome to look at the ways Kali manifests in Western culture and society, or tell me how you see the Trinity...especially if you are able to see both the lotus feet and the abstract.
I look at Kali and I see so many ideas and concepts expressed. Fingerprints of so many human lives mark her stories. She has been seen and experienced in a multitude of times and hearts. Thus. I see her as both the expression of an inner state of being and as various aspects of that state of being. Multiplied by the billions of abstractions of that same force, and the billions that have been swept along in the times and tides of humankind. Those that looked at an instance and thought, "Ah, Kali."
I see her as the transitory state of a protective, murderous rage that can spring from having your loved ones in danger. Then, like soldiers with PTSD, whose urge to protect the ones they love, they can end up hurting themselves and their loved ones. Especially if they get in the habit of using force to solve every problem. Like countries that having experienced a war in protection of themselves and others and emerged victorious, are tempted to punish the losers into the ground. Or, feeling the reinvigoration caused by a victory, to become, for instance, too expansion, or production happy. Not killing and drinking blood exactly...
She's a female though, and emerges from a strong, peaceful, loving, nurturing female. Despite the change she remains female. Coming as she does from a Patriarchy, this is interesting to me. Is she also a warning to abusive people that the person you are abusing may take it on the chin when it comes to herself, hurt someone she loves, and boom! Then it takes someone they love to bring themselves back to themself.

    1) Think of kali or maha kali as the energy of Brahman, her eternal (nirguna) form is formless, nameless and beyond attributes.
    2) another interesting comparison of her role of energy that pervades everything on the multi verse is string theory were tiny vibrating strings of energetic vibrate at specific frequencies to take form as particles, wether bosons, fermions abs more exotic states - that energy is her
    3) finally, kali actually means that which is the cause and beyond kaal or time
Thus she is immortal and exists beyond time and space

Hindus literally don't take these stories as real, it's just the way of knowing other dimension of life... It is totally different from the way u tell a marvel cinematic stpries, these stories are meant for spiritual progress...there are lots of nuances which only indian local guy could explain....

Another deep and esoteric concept missing here was the symbol of Kali standing on shiva. Kali represents the i (Shakti or energy) in shiva, without Kali shiva becomes shva which is Sanskrit for corpse. The nuance meaning here is that she represents the very energy within shiva and without her he is nothing more than an empty corpse. This pertains to their duality being maya ie illusion when they are one and the same

She is also goddess of magic and sorcery,Tantric (witchcraft) that's why she almost invoked by yogis, trantric.
She has similiar to lil bit greek goddess Hacate.

There is an Irish Celtic Goddess with those same qualities, she is called the Morrigan. She was also a War Goddess. Her animal familliar is the Crow, because in ancient times you would see crows feasting on the dead bodies of fallen warriors on the battlefield.

She’s also the consort of shiva, which is why she calmed down upon stepping on him and her tongue sticks out and is bitten out of embarrassment. There is also a creation story of one of the forms of kali, bhadrakali who was created from a lock of shiva’s hair.
