    Getting out on the road is what Linda and I love to do with our converted cargo trailer camper. We're part time nomads and the nomadic lifestyle suits us to a Tee. Whether your RV is a camper van, camp trailer, travel trailer, motorhome or just a car and a tent, there's going to be something interesting for you in the videos we produce. Back roads and overlanding are part of what we do while exploring the western states for beautiful, peaceful and sometimes remote places to camp on BLM and National Forest land (public land). Taking care of ourselves as much as possible and doing our own repairs is a must because we travel on a fixed income and a limited budget. If you're into being off-grid and boondocking or doing dispersed camping whenever possible then you'll appreciate the discussions on batteries, solar panels and solar chargers or power stations and 12v refrigeration. Come on along, we're happy to have your company!

    These new coffee presses are nice. I always just boiled coffee in an old coffee can over the fire and used a pair of vice grips to hold the can to pour then filter out the grounds through my teeth. I’m getting too old for the good old days. Think I will order a Stanley.

    I just scored a brand new one last night at our local Amazon bin store for $14.99! I saw it on a fresh bin that one of the workers was wheeling out and tailed him until he parked the bin. Quick nab after that! Drinking my first cup of coffee from it. Excellent.

    We were in the market for a different method to make our daily coffee and saw your video. Went immediately to Amazon and bought one. It just arrived and we had a great cup of coffee. We found we will be able to cut our coffee use by one tablespoon per pot and save some on electricity. I get up at 4am but my wife usually doesn't rise until a couple hours later. Now her coffee will be hot but no power consumption to make it happen.

    I LOVE French press coffee. I actually just started making it that way about a year ago. And now it's kind of my go to for coffee. Generally when we're boondocking, I will use my drip thing. It works really well too. But for me nothing beats the French press.

    Ah, the Science of Making Coffee. We Love it. And we are Hooked. Rick, I must have a dozen different Coffee makers of every design, and no matter which way I brew it up, it Always tastes good. And as I Know You Know, we Must Always Start, with Great Beans. I broke the glass container on my French Press and can't find where to replace it. Then I dug up a small Espresso machine that had been hiding somewhere, but now believe I'll get that Stanley Gizmo. No electricity needed. Either way, I Always think of You and Linda Everytime I pick up my cup. Funny how things happen. God Bless. I'm gearing up to have a Merry Christmas, just me and my girls (Dogs) Quiet and Cosy in front of the fire. Between now and New Years, I make a prayer each hour of every day, in this Special Month and Pray for Everything to 'Get-Better, for Everyone Everywhere'. The Only Prerequisite is: Ya Have To Be Worthy. 'Be Good, or Be Gone' comes to mind. Ah Nevermind me being silly, I'll have Another Coffee. (I also get to turn another year Younger, in the next nine days) so I best be a good boy and stay out of trouble. More News on the way. Say Hello to Linda for us. Any special plans for Christmas this year??? 🎄👋

  • @dfpytwa

    I'm not much of a coffee fan but when I do drink it my favorite has always been cowboy style. I was given a French press some time ago not a cool one like that but a glass one not suitable for camping and I've rarely used it. Just 3 handfuls of of freshly ground coffee in a quart boiler, bring it to a boil and let it simmer for a couple of minutes, take it off the fire, pour a cup of water down the spout and let it set for a few more minutes. Strong, black and tasty. Doing it any other way doesn't taste very good to me and is likely to put me on the toilet for the rest of the day, give me heartburn or both. Boiling seems to change it chemically so it doesn't have the laxative or acid reflux effect on me.

    • @gonagain
      @gonagain  2 года назад

      Also, some coffees are more likely to cause acid reflux. Arabica is the best, but some of those can be bad too. Find one that you get along with and enjoy.

    The best method for making camp coffee for us is the Melitta cone filter. Nothing to clean up, the grounds can be tossed on the ground outside the campsite and the paper filter dries out and can go into the campfire. I filter it directly into the thermos and it makes a good stiff cup of coffee.

  • @paulh6591

    The Stanley French press is great but they cut corners, went a little cheap on the construction. The plunger action is not smooth becasue there are no bearings or bushings in the lid; furthermore, and the lid is hollow, no vacuum seal. Lots of heat is lost through the lid. I bored out the holes in the lid, shot in insulation, drove in Nylon bushings into the top and bottom sheet metal of the lid. Now it is insulated and the action is smooth and quiet. The flimsy mesh filter lets grounds past. I bought a second 4.5" steel filter and ganged the two together. Yes, that's one additional item to clean, but the results are much better, coffee-wise.

  • @kcstott
    @kcstott 2 года назад +1

    Oh and for those that scoff at the idea of cowboy coffee but somehow figure French press is better or best. French press is cowboy coffee with a top down filter. Yeah the coffee isnot at a rolling boil but you still add boiling or near boiling water, let it steep, then top down press filter. Cowboy coffee is french press without the press.
    And Also the Great Gatsby is the Count of Monte Cristo. Same story different time line thats all.

    I use the JetBoil coffee press daily and really like it. For some reason (don’t really know why) I bought the Stanley and used it a couple times. I didn’t like it because unlike the JetBoil the Stanley always seemed to make a mess when you tried to pour a cup. After I used it a couple of times it has been relegated to a dark corner of the kitchen cabinet. As you mentioned it appears to be Stanley “bulletproof” but just didn’t work for me.
