$200 is quickly approaching the standard price range for a "good" running shoe. And that's a problem.

Don't get caught up in what is called the shiny object syndrome where something new is worth pursuing and you get drawn in by the momentum of the hype. Do these shoes suddenly become trash once the SuperBlast 2 come out! Wait just awhile and these shoes will be significantly reduced. Right now the you can get the Saucony Endorphin Speed 2 for $100 and the Nike Invincible 2's for $125. It's a zero sum game!

Great review. I just can’t see myself getting the shoe instead of the meta speed plus sky. The novablast at 140 just seems the way to go for daily and sky for speed.

As a unisex shoe, I too found the SuperBlast didn’t lock down as well for me (when I tried it on at the CIM Expo) as my NovaBlast3-which also has wider, softer, thicker laces. I also found the laces in the SuperBlast to be insanely long, not that that’s serious but it is annoying. In contrast, the unisex Edge+ locks down fine. I’m waiting to try the greatly improved Nimbus 25, which the Asics guy at the expo hinted I will probably love. It is no longer a higher drop in the W’s version, is way lighter & probably improved in all respects that matter to me.

Great review Emily, all too often shoetubers have "value" measures that don't REALLY value high quality and durability. Simply if everyone ran in this shoe and got 600-800+ high quality miles, without injury, without needing 3-4 shoe rotation, rather this and metaspeed sky+....then price is somewhat irrelevant and definitely not to be compared with 120-140 daily trainer value.
    Great review.

First, happy holidays whatever you celebrate! Re: price, I always want to mention that most brick&mortar independent running stores (not chains) give their loyal customers a club discount that can be as high as 20%. Moreover, they can special order shoes from any brand they carry, so that means a particular model or color they may not stock. They will also return shoes to the company if they don’t work out for you. Help support them and find out if your local store offers discounts. The more expensive the shoe, obviously the more substantial that becomes.

    • @jefreywith1f924
      @jefreywith1f924 Год назад +2

I'm glad you prefaced that by saying not the chains. Roadrunner Sports VIP membership is a ponzi scheme for which I am no longer a member. They have stores in my area. They lure you in by giving you a reduced introductory member fee where they automatically deduct it from your credit card on your member anniversary date. That annual fee jumped from $1.99 to $50 in a 8 yr. span. Sometimes not even notifying me in advance about the price hike and charging it to my card. That's only a 10% discount and 5% cash rewards back on purchases. I can get some of those same reduced prices at Running Warehouse. Same 90 day return policy on used shoes I'm unhappy with. I just wish they would sell Pumas!

@@jefreywith1f924 Yes, I know about Roadrunner’s VIP business. The only reason I ever set foot in a one of their stores (other than when they host a race registration/packet pickup) is to try on something that “my” local store can’t get because they don’t work with adidas, eg. RunningWarehouse is a much better option but sometimes it’s convenient to at least try on something to know your size before ordering, as I did with the Takumi Sen8. I then bought it at RW! Yeah, I don’t know of any place where I can try on a Puma shoe.

@Lev and Martha Polyakin-Aarons Fleet Foot that now owns JackRabbit Running, Boulder Running Company and Marathon Sports sells Puma. Not sure if these stores are located where you reside or if they sell them just at select stores. I might have to try the Takumi Sen 8, Edd Budd's favorite shoe of 2022, since their now only $89.88 at Running Warehouse. However, the narrow fit people talk about in their reviews may be a problem for me.

Thanks for the review, Emily. I prefer a variety of shoes in my rotation and this shoe by itself does not fit very well but I am not saying it is a bad shoe. Just today someone was complaining about carbon plated shoe gave him plantar fasciitis and I recommended this one as an alternative for racing.
I still do take issue with the price. For me it is $50 overpriced. For some people $50 is an important expense. ASICS had been very greedy in pricing this shoe. How likely would you buy this shoe at this price if it were not sent to you free to test and review? I know they are not paying you or controlling your opinions but still getting it free makes it easier to ignore the cost.

Most of my shoes are 2E and I find the Superblast to have poor lockdown despite using the runner knots. Have experimented it with different socks but no sign of improvement. I reckon the issue lies in its upper eyelet or the tongues were sliding all over the place due to its thin laces. I'm surprised non of the reviewers have highlighted this...
Straight out of the box, its midsole felt stiff. The FFBlast+ helps mellow its rigidity. I imagine it needs a break-in period?

I’ve got almost 25 miles in my Superblast and am in love 😍 I got the Novablast 3’s and loved them, but the Superblast is my go to for long runs. Have 100 miles already in it. I don't think it's an anything shoe, unless you are Shrek. This is a huge shoe in length and width. I have been running in Asics shoes for 40 years and this is the biggest shoe they have ever produced...
But, not in weight. It's light. I guess you could use this for speed work, but it doesn't seem designed for it. I think you could race in it for marathons, but it doesn't have a carbon plate and is near as expensive as a shoe that has one.
I really love this shoe for long runs. It's incredibly cushioned and responsive. It really works best there.

To me the Novablast3 locks down very well because it’s gender-specific (maybe that’s a factor) but more importantly the lacing system is more secure. I’d say if 1/2 size down has worked out for you in the NB3, lengthwise you’d probably want the same in the SuperBlast, but only if it locks down equally well for you. I have the NB3 and the staff at my running store convinced me not to size down since it’s not very spacious in the toebox. As a female trying on the SuperBlast, the toebox in my equivalent size was much more spacious than in the NB and on top of it, the lockdown not as good with the skinny laces.

Disagree on some of both comments unless @Rambling Runner meant still shoes w/CP’s “aren’t” for everyone. I suspect a key typo there. I wanted to add-please see my comment about discounts from independent running stores which can bring this into a range closer to shoes like the Invincible, which is far less versatile. And if runners like Kofuzi can run a fast marathon in the SuperBlast it will definitely work as a marathon shoe for many runners. Not everyone puts speed over comfort, and a carbon plate isn’t the be-all and end-all to everyone. I’m not buying the SuperBlast but I was very impressed by it when I tested it at the CIM Expo and its versatility and probable durability makes it suitable for those who might train and race in the same shoe, thus increasing the value component. Especially at a discounted price! I only recently finally found a CP shoe that suits my body mechanics. I’ve been racing Boston every year in the Endo Speed.

He’s actually honoring the sponsor brand of the major marathons in many cases. This year Asics sponsored CIM; last year it was NB and he wore NB. He doesn’t work with Asics; that comes from his association with BITR. And as far as cheaper shoes for marathons (non-plated or plated) I’m wouldn’t argue with that point at all. However, NB Fuel cell Trainer may not work for everyone. I tried it on and the ankle collar hit my ankle bone. I don’t run in super high stack shoes anyway, but I was just making a point that may apply to some runners. I’m no champion of the SuperBlast personally and I do agree it’s overpriced.
