You should try reading Stephen King's memoir On Writing. There's a lot to take away and is a really nice memoir about himself, his past drug use, and his accident. It's very inspirational for anyone and especially aspiring writers. But, it's also got one of the softest book covers I've ever touched. Fun fact: His inspiration to write Misery was his fans reaction to the first piece he published that wasn't within the horror realm and as a metaphor of his struggle with drug addiction.
The opening line from The Stranger reminds me of the opening of The Death of Bees by Lisa O'Donnell. "Today is Christmas Eve. Today is my birthday. Today I am fifteen. Today I buried my parents in the backyard. Neither of them were beloved." Probably where the similarities end, but still, good openings.
Camus’ A Happy Death is one of my favourite books, it’s like an early precursor to the Stranger that he wrote in the ‘30s (it wasn’t published until the ‘70s though). It uses that same tool of murder as a tool to examine the absurd, but instead the protagonist murders an acquaintance. It’s such an interesting concept
"When the bible was first published, were people praising Christians for having the hot new accessory?" Actually they were. Manuscripts in the ancient world were primarily in continuous scrolls. Christians were the early adopters of the codex as a new technology. From wikipedia: "The codex provided considerable advantages over other book formats, primarily its compactness, sturdiness, economic use of materials by using both sides (recto and verso), and ease of reference (a codex accommodates random access, as opposed to a scroll, which uses sequential access.)"
It's so refreshing to hear someone on the internet talk while using commen sense.👍 And even though it makes my brain cry happy tears, it's actually really sad that we don't live in a world (yet) where this goes without saying.

I loved this. Thank you for for bringing up that women can be both pretty *and* smart. I loved your critique of the article. And, as always, I loved your breakdown of these books!! Definitely excited to see a Steven-King-themed challenge!! 😉
Omg, what that journalist wrote about Bella and Gigi was truly uncalled for, insulting and out of bounds! Just because they r “super models” doesn’t mean they do not have the capability and the intellect to enjoy a good book! Granted being a super model is an elite opportunity to a chosen few in this world it is still like any other job….it is work and it takes a lot of work to stay on top. Their chosen profession does not define who they r as individuals nor should it. This gives new meaning as to why we should never judge anything or anyone at first glance.
I read The Stranger by Camus when I was at high school and while all my classmates hated it, I was almost sobbing with the end of it. For some reason I felt pity for that man and until this day I can’t explain why I cried lol
I love the Outsider, but most I've talked to or listened to said they hated how it is basically two books in one. First part a murder thriller, the other a mystery. It really feeds on the allegory from IT. I absolutely loved that, so lucky me 😂
There are some beautiful book covers that would perfectly work as accesories, though... matching outfits to book covers should be a whole BookTok trend!😹
You reading the first sentence made me find the book that I've been trying to find for yearsss since I first tried to read in college but didn't manage to. thank you jack
As a fellow french learner, i suggest that you read l'étranger in the original french as soon as possible, since it is short and not too hard to understand in french. It was the first book i read after a year and a half of french and it was highly comprehensible! And having already read it in English will make it even easier for you
i recommend you to read books that Tom Hiddleston has recommended, he has an amazing taste & he was the reason i fell in love with Shakespeare and books in general. if it wasn't for him i wouldn't even be here & find your channel lol (you're my favorite booktuber)
The stranger is a book that stressed me a lot (that trial!!! I would like to hear a law specialist analyzing it, also the protagonist's inability of thinking about possible consequences before doing something), but man it has my favorite opening line ever!! It's brief and it says so much about the protagonist and one of the main points of the trial, "what kind of person doesn't remember exactly when their mom died??", so amazing
We actually studied The Stranger at uni and we talked more about the fact that one should not obey to social rules and expectations created by other members of a society and the absurdity of it all. The main character is pretty much the representation of complete carelessness in front of the public opinion and even a bit of rebellion against it, towards the end.I think this book really makes you question the society we live in and the rules that we have to follow in order to be accepted, which brings us to its absurdity.

Can’t unsee a bull sack whenever I see that bum Eiffel Tower poster in Jack’s room
I got distracted too and then noticed that it’s in Polish as well
same
I was contemplating the whole time whether it was a woman with an interestingly trimmed bush or a woman's bottom in a string. So...lol
Same
I know😭😭
Shout out to Jack for calling out the misogyny
Camus’ A Happy Death is one of my favourite books, it’s like an early precursor to the Stranger that he wrote in the ‘30s (it wasn’t published until the ‘70s though). It uses that same tool of murder as a tool to examine the absurd, but instead the protagonist murders an acquaintance. It’s such an interesting concept
"When the bible was first published, were people praising Christians for having the hot new accessory?"
Actually they were. Manuscripts in the ancient world were primarily in continuous scrolls. Christians were the early adopters of the codex as a new technology. From wikipedia: "The codex provided considerable advantages over other book formats, primarily its compactness, sturdiness, economic use of materials by using both sides (recto and verso), and ease of reference (a codex accommodates random access, as opposed to a scroll, which uses sequential access.)"
ngl i kinda winced internally when i read the caption before clicking on the video but thank god for making you an unproblematic king
I can’t wait until Jack has to either read It or The Stand because oh boy those are some big books
I'm on my 12th month of reading IT 😆 I love Stephen King but, my god, I wish his editor had stepped in properly.
Love the uploading time cuz it fits my nocturnal sleep schedule perfectly.
that new apartment is EVERYTHING
It's so refreshing to hear someone on the internet talk while using commen sense.👍
And even though it makes my brain cry happy tears, it's actually really sad that we don't live in a world (yet) where this goes without saying.
I hope they see this!!! Thank you for ripping apart that article at the beginning!!
The casual cut to ''walking with one hand in the pocket, wearing a leather jacket'' prime model behavior
i don’t know how you managed to discuss so many things i’m obsessed with in one video! Mocking media articles, taylor swift, love island, cute bookstores and obviously, literature. we would be great friends but Australia is a little far from France unfortunately
Thank you for describing my feelings towards Stephen Kings exactly. I thought I was the only one who thinks they're way too long, but I'm glad to hear that Jack and Bella Hadid agree😅
Omg, Shakespeare and Company!!!!! I went there when I went to Paris a couple years ago. Such a lovely bookstore. Did you say hi to the cat, Aggie?
I love how jack says he isn’t a model and just wears what he can afford then walks in from the bookstore in that cream jumper and leather jacket looking amazing!
I loved this. Thank you for for bringing up that women can be both pretty *and* smart. I loved your critique of the article. And, as always, I loved your breakdown of these books!! Definitely excited to see a Steven-King-themed challenge!! 😉
Speaking about supermodels you should totally read Kaia Gerber's recommendations!!!
"yes, I know I'm very trendy" we love a self aware king
I absolutely loved that, so lucky me 😂
I enjoyed the Outsider.😊
There are some beautiful book covers that would perfectly work as accesories, though... matching outfits to book covers should be a whole BookTok trend!😹
Just wait, I bet it will be the next big thing. Dressing like fictional characters already is, right?😄
You reading the first sentence made me find the book that I've been trying to find for yearsss since I first tried to read in college but didn't manage to. thank you jack
“Saved by the Bella” was your worst yet. I loved it.
As a fellow french learner, i suggest that you read l'étranger in the original french as soon as possible, since it is short and not too hard to understand in french. It was the first book i read after a year and a half of french and it was highly comprehensible! And having already read it in English will make it even easier for you
Sis was mad Gigi and Bella were prettier then her 😭💅🏾
We need to the OPPOSITE of gate keep reading. Everyone should be encouraged to read anything that brings joy to them!
i recommend you to read books that Tom Hiddleston has recommended, he has an amazing taste & he was the reason i fell in love with Shakespeare and books in general. if it wasn't for him i wouldn't even be here & find your channel lol (you're my favorite booktuber)
Jack is out-sassing the journalist who wrote that article and 👏🏽 I’m 👏🏽 here 👏🏽 for 👏🏽 it 😂
We actually studied The Stranger at uni and we talked more about the fact that one should not obey to social rules and expectations created by other members of a society and the absurdity of it all. The main character is pretty much the representation of complete carelessness in front of the public opinion and even a bit of rebellion against it, towards the end.I think this book really makes you question the society we live in and the rules that we have to follow in order to be accepted, which brings us to its absurdity.
that article was just infuriating, but your commentary was perfect!
JESUS, that article was SO ANNOYING. I'm so glad you called that out Jack! Go you!
I had to read The Stranger my senior year of high school and thus began my love affair with Camus. He and Orwell will forever be my loves. ☺️☺️☺️
AAA JUST YESTERDAY I WAS WATCHING UR VIDS AND WAS SEARCHING FOR A GIGI AND BELLA HADID VERSION OMG THANKYOUUU
I bought 2 books today the inseparables by Simone de Beauvoir and Mr Wilder and me by Jonathan Coe. Hope Paris is amazing 🇫🇷🥖
I’ve watched The Outsider on HBO twice. It’s soooo good. The characters *chef’s kiss*!
I love King. A lot of his books are just wonderful.
So moved to see you in one of my favorite book shop in Paris! 😱 I really love l'étranger from Camus, one of my best memories of high school ^^
