Only Gary Moore was able to break out into a full-on shred fest in the middle of an emotional song without destroying the feel of it. His phrasing was sublime, and the speed and precision... ah! Man, Gary Moore was one of a kind. And his tone, always set perfectly that it will tug at your heart strings. Gary Moore was a guitarist's guitarist. He was the guy Ozzy wanted in his band when he embarked on his solo career. He was the guy someone like George Harrison called when he needed a solo for the Traveling Wilburys and neither George nor Jeff Lynne felt up to writing it. They'd call Gary and he'd do it in 5 minutes flat. True story. Hint, he's "Ken Wilbury" on She's My Baby, playing lead and the solo.
This song originally was a collaboration between him and another legend: Phil Lynott and the opening line is a clever reference to Phil. "I remember Paris in '49" - Lynott was born in '49 and the father he grew up without was named Cecil Parris. Parris also was Lynott's middle name. Lynott and Moore were friends and have played together often, both in the Blues band Skid Row and Thin Lizzy as well for each other's solo projects. Gary has few references in his songs to Phil, remembering their friendship. My favorite collaboration after this one would be "Out In The Fields". Great song with and important message
RIP Phil Lynott and Gary Moore, you both are missed

Gary covered a lot of styles during his great career. In the latter part he returned to his love of electric blues. He made some fantastic hard rock albums, too.

Holy crap. That was amazing. Gary was a special player. One of those who possessed an intangible talent and energy. Just damn. RIP.

Gary Moore, Van Morrison, George Best (one of the greatest soccer players) and C S Lewis (writer and academic) were all born in East Belfast.

Not many have the feel AND speed that Gary possessed, rest in peace. Though I have to say I prefer his pre blues work. The shredding is pretty metal though lol.

Love that you brought Gary back on tap. Guitar phenom extraordinaire. FYI, Parisienne is spoken as pair-e-z-n. There's your French lesson for today! Looking forward to more of Mr. Moore RIP.

I hadn't seen this version before either, he's clearly got heavier since the one I watched. And I think it might have been his last before his death. Certainly from Montreux anyway. He really was unique. One of a kind.

I loved watching your reaction and how you were on pins and needles, feeling it out, surprised and just going with it. I really enjoy your appreciation of his playing, how expressive he is, and how amazing of a performer he is. He definitely took all of us for a ride, and I’m glad you jumped on. I look forward to more of your reactions. Thank you!

Great video. Thank you for listening to it in full before commenting.
The guitar he was playing was owned & played by Jimmy hendrix, Jeff beck and Peter Green (Fleetwood mac) He sold it in 2006 for a reported 1.2 million to cover debts from a cancelled tour.

I honestly had just watched this performance (again) this morning, then I get a recommendation for your reaction (which I already had seen),but thought- yes I'll watch it again,as your reactions are always on point, and besides, really enjoyed these reactions to this great (and in my opinion,under-rated guitarist, except for those of us who have been fans for decades). This performance just speaks volumes as to how great he was,and yep, this is the best version of "Parisienne Walkways". I think a great instrumental of Gary's you'd enjoy would be "The Loner" very much a cross between "Parisienne Walkways" and "The Messiah Will Come Again". Be prepared for more blissful guitar histrionics.

Michael, your face on much of this just made me laugh. It was like you were censoring yourself a ton. Lets just say I think you wanted to use some expletive deletes in your reaction. Most of it complimentary, much in disbelief, while I don't believe you are an envious person lets just say I think some of the phrases may have included epitaphs that are frowned on if used in public (or near children). Just a guess but honestly your face. Loved this one.
