This is not true it was Hajimi's (and chiaki's) understanding of Nagito that saved everyone in the 5th trial. That is why Hajimi stoped everyone from voting 'suicide' and warned them that they were underestimating his malice. Izuzra also noticed and said something like 'he noticed putrid slim under the friendly layer" in ch.0 flashback
No wonder Nagito wanted to push for the killings to start. He probably thought that for every death, something fortunate would occur to balance it out. The funny thing is he's right.
"when he flashes that carefree smile, I can't understand a single word he says" _isn't that something high school girls put in their diaries about their crushes!?_

Aydin Woods not saying that you're wrong, but that's just in dr3 which, in some cases, is not canon. i do see what you mean though and people can interpret it as canon if they want to. again, i'm not saying you're wrong
I’m studying medicine, and Nagito’s diagnosis of frontotemporal dementia would make sense with his character. The most common symptoms include inappropriate social behavior (such as inappropriate laughter), loss of empathy or loss of other interpersonal skills. Depression can also be a symptom, which explains why even though he’s smiling, he’s very self-deprecating and sad. If Nagito was not lying, he’s right in saying that his brain matter is shrinking (atrophy) at a slow rate constantly. In combination with lymphoma (cancer of the lymph nodes) he would also be immunocompromised, which would explain why he easily caught the “despair disease” and his condition was the worst out of the 3 who caught it. Usually this form of dementia is very rare (he is both unlucky and very lucky, so that could make sense). Even though it usually occurs in middle aged adults (40-65) it could be possible, albeit extremely rare, that Nagito has this.... Let’s give the writers a hand for their mental health research
poor komaeda ..... is the cancer and dementia curable? i know at the end of dr3 he seems to be doing well (for now...?) so im wondering if perhaps he made a full recovery, or if his days are numbered. since hinata is a genius now, he might’ve find a miracle cure. but theres also the idea that komaeda was lucky he outlived his diagnosis, but he would be dying rn since hinata’s luck would cancel out the luck that is keeping komaeda alive?
Stop Bullying Tomioka-san you are mostly right there. However, dementia research has recently made strides in reversing some effects to better treat and increase the life spans of patients. For example exercise helps increase blood flow to the brain which would promote healing in damaged areas. Taking certain supplements can help prevent some memory loss and help decrease inflammation in areas of the brain. Diet changes help this as well.
@@ashlynmccathy1825 frontotemporal dementia is very different from the standard dementia people get; It causes that part of your brain to shrink, basically rot, killing you within 2 to 10 years, sometimes even less. No medication will slow the disease down and the only thing prescribed would be antidepressants/antipsychotics to reduce behavioural problems. A healthy body might help, but at the end of the day it's extremely rare for a person to live with it for more than 10 years no matter their habits, most die within 5-6 years and even if they were able to cure his cancer he'd have to completely turn his health around, and even then I don't think he'd live for an extremely long time, tbh. His behaviour wasn't that extreme overall in the game, when talking to others, but his death... 🥺
@@foottoast4235 Okay but I think he could have been falsely diagnosed. It makes sense that way too since knowing you have such a deadly disease is definitely bad luck, but just thinking you had it all along when you actually didn't is probably worse. Some people abandon their dreams when they realize they won't be able to live long enough anyways, so being falsely diagnosed could be worse than actually having the disease. That's just my theory however and is likely false. Though I don't want Nagito to die-
"its possible that my talent might be even more meaningless than yours. I can't even remember what it is" "that's not true! I'm sure your talent is amazing!" *timeskip* "I can't believe I ever saw you as a symbol of hope" _my heart_
-"But in the end, I obtained my freedom and an immense inheritance. See? It was really amazing good luck all along, right!?" -"Now that I'm on the verge of death, I've finally realized what I wanted all along: somebody's love." Guys, take your minds off shipping for a second. Is this implying that he feels like he's never been loved by anyone before, not even by his own parents? On top of that, all of his other family members that he may have possibly cared about died, he's purposely distanced himself to a point where he can't even think of a single acquaintance, and he can't enjoy a single happy moment without thinking about the bad luck that'd come right after... This guy's nothing but tragic. No wonder he came out as such a mess.
In the Japanese version, Komaeda says どうか忘れないで…ボクはキミを… which is very obviously an aborted love confession in Japanese. Since English and Japanese sentence structure are very different, it's hard to explain. At first he said 'you' (hinata) in as the direct object, then after he changes his mind on what he was going to say, he switches to using 'you' possessively. So, assuming he was planning on using the same verb, he was absolutely going to say, "Please don't forget that I love you." But he got nervous, backtracked a bit, and continued, this time with 'you' being possessive so he could add 'the hope sleeping inside'. Basically, a better translation would be: "Please don’t forget that I love yo-…The hope sleeping inside you… from the bottom of my heart."
I ship them and it hurts so much. Every ship is dead. Hajime X Chiaki? Hajime X Nagito? Fuyuhiko X Peko? Gundham X Sonia? Nekomaru X Akane? Dead dead dead. I can't take it. Some were almost canon.
And the. After he said that: Nagito: "Wait, Hajime!" Hajime: "Huh?" Nagito: Tosses "Nagito's Undergarments" at him Lmao that would be hilarious + the amount of KomaHina OTP in that line
I doubt Komaeda's almost-confession was translated as it is "to prevent any gay undertones". Considering that the translators for this game pretty much went all out with Ibuki's lesbian jokes and Teruteru trying to hit on Hinata in his Free Time Events, it wouldn't make sense to think that the translators tried to tone down Komaeda's almost-confession.
*S* *O* *R* *E* *W* *A* *C* *H* *I* *G* *A* *U* *Y* *O* *!* now most of this will be from the fan-wiki but bear with me Nagito: "In his fifth Free Time Event, Nagito reveals a lot of personal things to Hajime, telling him about his terminal diseases and his biggest wish being to be loved for once before he dies. He falsely dismisses what he just said as lies, probably for the sake of Hajime's safety, since Hajime was about to forgive Nagito and he would've been in danger if they got too close due to the effects of Nagito's bad luck (Danganronpa FandomWiki)." If I remember middle school ELA inferencing right, this would seem to imply (that Nagito *at* *least* thinks) that if he gets too emotionally attached to someone, his luck would catch up to him and put that person into harm's way (aka kill/severely injure them in some horrific manner). Don't believe me? Well you don't need to look far to find _actual_ instances of this occuring in canon (e.g. his parents, dog, etc.). He didn't call hajime a friend and say that he was "in love with hajime's hope" (although it wouldn't be a stretch to say that there was _some_ truth to that) because of censorship; he said that because he didn't want to get hajime wrapped up in his bad luck. Kokichi: Oh boy, where do I begin. To put simply kokichi is a textbook example of a compulsive liar. Now that would be nothing if it weren't for one thing about compulsive liars: why they lie. Although there are _many_ reasons why someone is/becomes a compulsive liar, the reasons that *most* seem to have is either the desperate need for attention or just a lack of trust in people. You're probably going to ask something along the lines of: 'But what does that have to do with kokichi's confession?' To put it simply: a lot. Let's go over each reason shall we (and no; im not gonna list them in order for format reasons)? First- trust issues: And im gonna take a break for now so in the meantime just read what I w and here is where I talk about the panzerkampfwagen viii the maus was a super heavy tank weighing 188 tons with Strong Main gun and impenetrable armour however due to the conditions of the 3rd Reich during the last days of the war the maus was impractical as it would have taken large amounts of oil and steel both of which Germany had nearly run out of by then however even if the Reich had limitless resources that design still would have failed as its tremendous weight and words size would have prevented it from using any Bridges ships and roads, as well as making it incredibly susceptible to fighter bombers.
Nagito’s good luck doesn’t seem all that good to me. First he undergoes severe emotional/psychological trauma in exchange for cash, then he gets to go to the school he always wanted to attend knowing he won’t survive to graduation. That’s not good luck, it’s tragic irony.
Which is horrible asf, imagine getting something you always wanted but not being able to use it or enjoy it....the world is basically trolling him everytime, the sad part he got used to it....
Makoto's luck and Nagito's luck are kind of opposites when you think about it; Makoto's luck was having something bad happen to him only for it to become a blessing in disguise (E.G. him getting a jammed bathroom door, only for it to prove his innocence later), whereas Nagito's luck is something great happening to him, only for it to turn to ash in his mouth when a tragedy happens to balance it out.
The saddest part of it all is how he has to push Hinata away though when he knows he wants to feel loved but he can't because "luck" will end up killing anyone he loves 🥺 He's sentenced to a life of eternal loneliness...
I find Komaeda so fascinating because of his backstory and complex beliefs. His actions are morally gray enough to the point where players can't condone him for it or forgive him either dude seriously needs a hug though :/
I agree! Like, you want to hate him because he's done so many horrible things, and hes in no way innocent, but he also has good intentions even if they correspond with really fucked up beliefs and motives. Not to mention his mental illness and upbringing were pretty shitty and can be directly linked with how fucked up he is.
@@Awesomesufff Again, though, due to his good luck then bad luck cycle, Komaeda believed that something amazing would happen if he murdered someone. He's like an anti-hero or falls into that realm of 'doing awful shit for the sake of others.'

winged_ cat_45, yeah sadly komahina can’t become a thing because something bad will happen. Which is why he says “I love the hope that sleeps inside of you” instead of “I love you.” WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA, I WISH IT COULDVE BEEN THINGGGGGGGGGG
I hate how Hajime didn't even take notice of that. He didn't notice how Nagito was acting weird, or the fact that he was STARVING AND NOT SLEEPING to the point where he had to excuse himself before the class trial because he was having some horrific side effects, or how his love was real... And Omg, I can write an entire Christmas list about how clueless he is.
@@ponygirl4441 Maybe, but it's pretty long. Like, seriously, I love Hajime but he's even more oblivious than Nagito. Which actually says a bunch. (Tho, he did make up for most of his cluelessness at the end so I'm not too salty.)

Komaeda loves Hinata. Even though the english translation kind of messed it up a little bit (could be translation difficulties or maybe heterowashing, I don't know) he absolutely has romantic feelings for Hinata. His original line in the last free time event is "どうか忘れないで… ボクはキミを…キミの中に眠る希望を心から愛していると。" (in Kanji: Douka wasurenaide… Boku wa kimi wo… Kimi no naka ni nemuru kibou wo kokoro kara aishiteiru to.) A very literal translation of that would be, "Please don’t forget… With you, I am… The hope sleeping inside you, (I) love from (the bottom of my) heart." Translating things from Japanese to English is hard, because the structure of both languages is very different. Let me try to explain why it's definitely a love confession though. In Japanese, the primary verb comes at the end of a sentences and words are given sense by particles. の (no): Particle. Marks that the preceding word is a possessive, in this context. を (wo): Particle. Marks that the preceding word is the direct object (receiver) of a verb. キミ (kimi): Second-person pronoun. 愛している (aishiteiru): Verb. Literally definition is something like “the state of doing love,” but that’s complicated verb tenses and not really relevant here, so let’s just go with “love” since it’s smoother and would amount to something pretty similar. 希望 (kibou): Noun. Means “hope.” If you look at the Japanese once more, you'll notice that "wo" becomes "no" by the time he continues his sentence, so the word before it (kimi) becomes a possessive object rather than a direct one. So at first he was talking to Hinata directly, but decided to continue about something Hinata possesses/something about Hinata. Since the verb in Japanese stands at the end of a sentence there's always a lot to speculate about what exactly the verb is during an unfinished sentence. However, with all the knowledge we have about Komaeda and how much he truly admires Hinata (even after finding out that he has no talent) it's safe to assume that he was going to use the verb he used in the next sentence as well. So basically, if he would have continued his sentence, it would have been something like, "ボクはキミを心から愛していると" or simply "I love you from the bottom of my heart." So at first he was going to tell Hinata that it's indeed him as a person he loves, and not something he possesses (in this case, his hope) There is no way to properly translate it to English because of the different structures, but if you want to keep it as close to the original as possible, you'd probably go with, "Please don’t forget that I love y-… The hope sleeping inside you… from the bottom of my heart."
Max Galman What? It isn't a good confession... why? Because he backtracked? (Well, in the original. In the dub he didn't backtrack because they changed it to begin with) That's the point, that he didn't want to get attached to Hinata but he did. I mean, I think it's pretty clearly a part of his character the writers intended to do like that.
Ainara Sàiz Oh, so he doesn't get embarrassed at his insane talk about hope and how he loves every one of his "symbols of hope", but he was embarrassed to admit.that he loves Hinata? That doesn't even make sense. And in his Dangan Island ending he just asked Hinata if he wanted to be friends with him. If you gonna say he was just afraid to admit it or say it, then Komaeda would be one huge pansy dude, when clearly he's not that type of guy who conceals his feelings. And, as a side note, the girls' Dangan Island endings were much more straightforward, where most of them decide to marry or confess their feeling to Hinata.
MellowBoar Pretty much everything he said about his backstory is true. (parents killed, kidnapped by a murderer, his sickness and the "good luck" that happened afterwards)
According to what him said about being free afterward and about wanting to be loved... I imagine his parents mistreated him? (If so it explained why he had low self esteem...)
Ah remember the time where Hajime thought Nagito was an innocent and nice guy? Man the first class trial sure change a lot like my obsession for him. It's absolutely higher now. Nagito is my life & my everything. HOPE BAGEL ARMY Komahina JAAAMM
"it's not like I can use it for anything amazing" later in game -uses it to play Russian roulette and to force chiaki to murder him without her even knowing....
Fun fact: Nagito actually wanted Hajime to be the traitor so that he would kill him and be the last survivor. But since Chiaki was the traitor Komaeda's good luck made sure Hinata survived by destroying his own freakin' plan. Or at least, that's how I see it...
@@anaisjohnson7228 Since he knew everything he knew that even if the others "died" the would have still been able to survive since they were in the Neo World Program
I don't think he was lying, as he frequently forgets/remembers things while he is talking. He's is also quite pale. There's a theory that he actually feels that his luck and "hope" is bad and so people around him die and bad things happen because he is alive. He is my favourite character. :D
He's my favorite character too. And he wasn't lying about the diseases. He was given a 6-13 months to live. However, as confirmed in Danganronpa AE, he's been alive for 2 whole years after diagnosis. It's due to the fact that he is stuck in an endless cycle of Good and Bad Luck. In exchange for good luck he gets bad luck and vice versa. Just like how he planned his death. In exchange for his life, he trusted his luck to have traitor be the one to kill him. There's a theory that he will wake up from his comatose before the others, the evidence to this being that in chapter 5 when the system is glitching out you and the others encounter every single one of the dead kids except for Komaeda himself.
+Tensai _9 It's proven by the fact that he's IN Danganronpa 2, which takes place after Ultra Despair Girls. He wouldnt be alive in SDR2 if he died in or after UDG. I doubt he will wake up first. And if he does, it will likely be due to data recovery. You know, the most recently lost data is the easiest to retrieve? Otherwise I find it more likely that the healthier students will wake up first, whoever that is. However, with his Luck, and Hajime having nearly every talent, I think it possible that he could miraculously recover from all the bad stuff in his brain. Perhaps not a realistic scenario in our world, but in a world where your brain can be dissected to give you talent and an AI can be uploaded into a person's brain, I don't think it too far-fetched.
+Kasumi231 after all, everything can happend in Danganronpa I still hope for a final where Naegi go back in time before the events of DR1 and heals the mind of Junko, so save all

I'm actually pretty surprised no one brings up the whole thing about Komaeda legit saying he never felt Hinata was talented from the start, so that means he couldn't POSSIBLY be in love with his "hope" or whatever because he never sensed it at all, and...that actually made him feel even closer to him.
I believe that everything he said was true, not just something to gain Hajime's pity. That is proven too in the manga showing Nagito's point of view. I feel like at the very end, he got terrified. So he immediately thought of a lie to push Hajime away from him. Then I believe the love confession too. This boy confesses to Hajime at least three times in this game. Under the despair disease, "I hate you, I can't stand being in the same room as you." In his final free time event, "I am truly in love.... with your hope that sleeps inside you." And before the 4th class trial, "I know you don't matter at all, so why do I still care about you?"
Also do I need to mention that Ko survived through all of this crud, has a fatal disease, AND can keep really upbeat about everything? I just can't not love him.
Nagito's Undergarments: "Nagito's favorite boxer shorts. Even when the laundry got soaking wet from a sudden rainstorm, this pair of lucky underwear was the only thing that stayed dry." ... Wtf 😂😂
I wanna hug Korekiyo. Kiyo might not look down on himself but he's a delusional psychopath and can't even tell because he's delusional. Kirumi also deserves a hug. Same with Toko.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I feel like everytime Nagito asks if Hajime is feeling okay, he's worried that Hajime is just going to die on the spot from Nagito's 'Luck'. If so, then that is pretty... Sad.
In the island mode, when you spend time with Nagito and he enjoys it, he says that he "feels so lucky he wouldn't be surprised if one or two people he cared about just died"
manga: Nagito: *I love you* and the hope that sleeps inside you. Game: Nagito: From the bottom of my heart...I am truly in love with the hope that sleeps inside you Me: Why Team Danganronpa!? Why!?
Actually it is canon, but it's one-sided. Nagito does have feelings for Hajime, but Hajime doesn't have feelings for Nagito. In the Japanese version Komaeda confesses to him but then probably gets scared and rephrases it. It's kinda like this: "Hajime, i love yo- the hope inside of you". So yeah, it's canon but it's one-sided :(
The original Japanese dialogue was an aborted love confession, and due to the differences in sentence structure, it's difficult to properly translate into English. I feel like it still works, though, even if it's a bit more ambiguous.
BECAUSE JUST BECAUSE PEOPLE SHIP DOENST MEAN IT NEEDS TO HAPPEN, IT DOENST EVEN MAKE SENSE FOR ONE, THERES A SUCH THING AS FRIENDSHIP AND YK THEY CAN BE FRIENDS RIGHTT??? KOMAEDA IS GIVING HIM CONFIDENCE BRO. PLUS, IN DESPAIR ARC, A CANON ANIME, HAJIME LIKES CHIAKI AND CHIAKI LIKES HIM
21:12 This is just my opinion, but is he saying that probably because... He cared about Hajime? I've read in the wiki that he always distanced himself so that the others won't get influenced by his extreme bad luck that could also caused death. And since he caref about Hajime, he's saying that so that he'll hate him and will distanced himself from Nagito maybe? Okay, maybe most of the KomaHina fans would've knew this already
@@nadiantix1882 I'm going to prove you wrong here. I took this from my analysis so it's pretty long. Almost everyone knows that Nagito loves Hajime. Well right now I'm going to explain those feelings in much more detail. From the first part of the game we spend almost the whole time with Nagito and Hajime really appreciated their friendship. When Hajime starts saying how he doesn't remember his talent and stuff Nagito encourages him that he surely has a great talent. Well it all goes down hill when Nagito reveals his true nature. Hajime tries to distance himself from Nagito but even then, he still tries to understand him. Nagito even then still praises Hajime and tries to help him all the time, even tho Hajime doesn't see it. Like in the third trial when Nagito acussed Hajime of being the killer, in reality he was only backing up his alibi but Hajime didn't get it. He even said an important clue just so Hajime could be the one to prove it so he could get all the praise. Nagito didn't want the others to thank him, even tho he did all the work. Let's move on now. Nagito developed feelings for Hajime pretty quickly, since Hajime was his frist friend ever. Nagito felt like him and Hajime have a lot of things in common. He says how he felt from the beginning that Hajime didn't have a talent because he couldn't radiate the same aura coming from the others from Hajime. He says that he only felt the scent of a myserable bystender, just like him. That is what actually made him feel closer to him. He always felt like the outcast considering that he didn't have the same talent as everyone else. He always felt like that. But then he found someone else just like him, Hajime, who also felt like he couldn't fit in. That's exactly what made him feel closer to him and eventually, made him fall in love. At the end of his FTE he says "Please, don't forget...From the bottom of my heart, I'm truly in love with the hope that sleeps inside you...". In the english version, again, it doesn't seem as much but in the japanese version he says "Douka wasurenaide...Boku wa kimi wo...Kimi no naka ni nemuru kibou wo kokoro kara aishiteiru to." 1. At first he said "Douka wasurenaide..." but then he started his second phrase with "Boku wa kimi wo...". In the first phrase Nagito started his phrase with a direct object but when he picked up again, he switched to a possesive object (The japanese grammar is a bit complicated and very different from the english one, so it might be hard for you to understand) 2. The word he used for love here is "aishiteiru". Aishiteiru can be roughly translated to "(I) love (you)". However, it is an extremely strong word (a word that even married couples hesitate to use since it's so strong!). You dont just say "aishiteiru" to whoever you like unless you really, really love that person. You might consider "Oh but Nagito could love anyone as long as they have hope" but that is not true. When he says he loves the Ultimates or when he says he loves hope he uses the term "suki" which is used for saying you love a thing, you love your friends or you love you family, so it isn't as strong as aishiteiru. A more correct translation would be "Please don't forget that I love y- That I love the hope sleeping inside you...from the bottom of my heart..." NIS America butched a lot of the translations like the one I talked about in Chapter 4, the last line of his FTE which i just talked about and even Mikan's talk about her beloved. Even in Island Mode, even tho it's an alternate universe, he still has feelings for Hajime. Quote from Nagito's wikia page: "(...) I should also be noted that in the final Dangan Island event, Nagito had a hard time asking Hajime to be his friend, to which the latter agreed to". Quote from Hajime's wikia page: "(...) In the final Dangan Island event, when Nagito hesitantly asks for Hajime's friendship, Hajime was surprised but accepted without much consideration. The wording seemed to start as a confession, which caught Hajime by surprise". Nagito knows that he's a complicated person. Considering his past, it's only natural he doesn't want to hurt the person he came to know so much all those weeks. It's only natural he would develop romantic feelings for Hajime. And it was more heavily hinted in the japanese version of the game than the english one...In the english version the homosexual context isn't nearly as strong as in the japanese one. True, the localization was better in this one than the first game. However, they decided to skip the "serious" homosexual stuff (Nagito's "gayish" lines in Chapter 4 and his fifth FTE, Mikan's talk about her beloved aka Junko Enoshima) for some reason which is very sad. A lot of people say that Hajime hated Nagito but I'm going to debunk that. At first we can see that they were friends so when Nagito showed his true colors, he said he felt betrayed because he really thought he was a kind person. When he goes to bring Nagito food he is still in denial about how he feels towards him, now that he knows who he is and before he left he said this "I don't want to be tricked by you anymore!" so it's shows how he feels like he can't be friends anymore because he doesn't want to be betrayed, even tho deep down, he still wants to. When Nagito had the despair desease he was constantly worried about him and at one point he said why should he even be worried about a guy like him but he still goes to check up on him which is really sweet. When Nagito started being mean to him, he felt hurt but if he hated him he wouldn't have cared, but he did care what he thought of him. In Danganronpa 2.5 when Nagito wakes up, Hajime seems worried about him, if he hated him he wouldn't have even forgave him. And the last scene in it shows Hajime reaching for his hand, and Nagito takes it which was ADORABLE. This shows how Hajime never hated Nagito.
I know I’m late to this but I just have to state the fact that this is probably the most miserable character in the 77th class, Why? Because like he says in his last free time event he eventually realised all he wanted was someone’s love. But he knows that if someone were to love him they’d fall victim to his luck. I’m pretty sure that’s why at times he’s purposefully trying to piss Hajime off so he won’t get close to him. And he can’t even commit suicide because of his luck. When he thought he actually did it, who knew, they were in the neo world program. It’s just sad. Can’t even give him a hug. Poor guy.
Even though many people say they hate him i disagree He is actually one of the most if not THE most complex and interesting characters in Dangnanronpa And he was a remnant of despair but even so he still valued hope
What makes me happy is at the result of the neo world program he met hajime who now has the ultimate everything including luck so nagito doesn’t need to worry about hajime being hurt because they’re luck counteract eachother
I always like making scenarios in my head where I'm hajime (bc I don't have an oc and nagito likes hajime) and making it so his luck doesn't affect me so i can give him the love he's always wanted. I like to see him actually happy in my mind 😭 wish it were real.
SSJ5Gogetenks he sounds so breathless by the end of it as if it's _killing_ him slowly to laugh like that and he still _fucking enjoys it_ and really it just makes me want to punch a wall and also sign his adoption papers
It's so cute! Hinata is like "Wow this guy is really nice. He helps me feel at ease. I really like hanging out with him. Hope I get to know more about him." and then shit hit the fan. The possibilities of compatibility are endless!
I just realised something. In Nagito’s first free time event, Hajime says “Should I ask Nagito if he wants to hang out?” But after chapter 1, he says “Can I even hang out with someone like Nagito...?” Damn. I can’t believe I didn’t notice that until now.
it makes me so sad when people call nagito crazy because i mean he isnt really crazy, I mean imagine your entire life being a cycle of good and bad luck and all you want is for it to be over already i mean nagito goes as far as too wish talents werent even a thing because his just has ruined his life so much and the only thing he can even grasp onto is hope, hope that things will get better and if you really put yourself in his shoes he isnt crazy he is just living life the only way he knows how I mean all of the others havent had their life be effected so negatively because of their talents unlike nagito
Unlike the other Ultimates, his luck basically destroyed any chance of him ever getting a normal life. The others' talents saved them, while Komaeda's messed him up. That's what makes him so tragic...
Sorry if this is wrong but for me it kinda seems like he uses hope to like cope with his situation. Like he thinks "this situation sucks but it's fine because i will get good luck next, so it will be worth it, right?"
I understand Nagito's hope obsession to some extent. He's practically leaning on luck and hope through his life. . And some symptoms of his diagnosis are visible, and explain some of his actions. I understand him somewhat, for what he has gone through and still is going through. Things like that definitely are going to mess you up.
So, I'm guessing he only has that one event for the first chapter and that you can't hang out with him during chapters 2 and 5 for obvious reasons, right?
Also, after ch.1 you can only FTE him if you've already had his first FTE, because if you didn't I think Hinata doesn't want to talk to him. And yeah, in chapter 5 he refuses to talk to you.
meatsackulations Congratulations In his first FTE they talk all normal and stuff like they're friends, and of course that won't work after his true nature has been revealed. So that's why if you don't talk to him the first day of your FTEs, you'll never be able to.
I like how you can tell who's pre-dub fan and who is post-dub fan from the way people refer to the characters, because usually pre-dub fans call them Komaeda and Hinata and post-dub fans call them Nagito and Hajime
so which is their first names? I thought Hajime was a weird first name, so i always went with Hinata. i didn't know what to do with Lucky boy, so I just used Komaeda
So basically after they know each other really well, they sleep with each other so that komaeda's boxers end up in hinata's hands? Awwww see the komahina love.
I just realized something, usually Hajime would always say “can I even hang out with someone like nagito?” And then after Hajime slowly started to learn more about him his question became: “Should I hang out with Nagito?” Instead. That’s so sad and adorable I really wish they could understood each other way more and become even closer.
I don't understand how the love confession was "ruined". I mean,if I heard Komaeda say "I love the hope that is inside you" I would think he was hitting on someone.
Actually,in the japanese version,he was going to make a confession to Hajime, but rephrased it at the last moment,so it was something like what he said in the english version.
From what I understand, the original Japanese had him change the sentence structure at the last moment from saying he "felt love towards [Hajime]" to he "felt love towards [something Hajime possesses]". He also used a word for specifically romantic love, but since English doesn't have different words for different types of love, it wasn't as explicit in the translation. I don't think that necessarily "ruined" it, though, just made it more vague.
Because a lot of the people who play the english version wouldn't get it. Playing the first time the game you still don't get used to how he usually talks
People complain because in english he feels less disturbingly calm and calculating, instead he sounds as if trying to intimidate the others with an evil villain accent... Well, I just know that even then I still love hearing his psychotic laugh, always catches me off guard.
wow this is much better than I thought this would be I assumed this would have been an argument showdown between two former friends each of them giving their point's on the value of life instead Hajime lets Nagito due all the talking like a psychiatrist trying to find the core of madness which is awesome its like looking into the mind of a super villain and understanding his motives without judging him at the end and unfortunately for our hero he has a lot in common with Nagito.
I feel like Event 4 is when Nagito's interest in Hajime is VERY blatant. His first few lines of dialogue already has him obsessing over Hajime more than the previous 3 events, not to mention I looked over his reactions towards liking the present given to him... He treats them like Hajime gave him hope itself or somthing... Man. And then the 5th Event. They really couldn't have made it more obvious. Quoting off a cheesy book, and then he goes as far as to try and convince Hajime to kill him in the perfect crime, *which he wants Hajime to win aka be the last one survivng* That's just- MY DUDE.
Dude is trying to keep it in. He's like not even sure what's going to happen whenever Hajime approaches him. Is he going to kill him? Is he going to ask to hang out? Is he going to die on the spot from just approaching? Nagito is losing his mind thinking of the possibilities but he doesn't understand why he's so interested in the first place. It's hilarious and sad at the same time.
🌟 I like nice cream 🌟 it might not be one sided, the direct translation of the ending to Danganronpa 3 despair arc suggests some sexual activity between the singer and the person they love, and the singer is Nagito's voice actor
I don't like Komaeda as much as other people, but his story really is interesting and his personality is explained so well. His relationship with Hajime is also.. Interesting.
Idk why everyone keeps complaining about them "taking out the confession." It's near impossible to translate it the way it was smoothly into English. And you can tell they tried, with the way he pauses before continuing.
It's sad really. Nagito doesn't want Hajime to pity him. Because he's worried that the bad luck that inevitably follows his good luck of finally making a friend/falling in love would result in Hajime getting hurt or worse. That's why he tries to play the story off as a lie. So that he can push Hajime away. So he doesn't end up like his parents or those around him. Poor Nagito. I hope that he can one day tell Hajime how he feels without worrying or panicking.
That's what fanfics are for! To heal the wounds of tragic stories with some fun. I mean I actually would like to read an AU where the Danganronpa characters just go to school together and that's it. It's a school AU.
Yeah, it is pretty obvious its a love confession. WHY else would Nagito give Hajime UNDERGARMENTS!? Wow, Japanese games are pretty perverted but I don't mind!
22:36 *Please, don't forget... From the bottom of my heart... I am truly in love with the hope that sleeps inside of you.* I think in the Japanese version he i says 'aishteru' which basically means I love you.
***** The original line would be better translated as "Komaeda: That I love… …I love the hope sleeping within you from the bottom of my heart." Notice the strategic pause. Heck, he even uses "aishiteru", something which even a lot of married couples hesitate to use. So yes, Komaeda has feelings for Hinata. And that was removed from the English version. Uuuuuugh.
VoltraTheLively After watching it, I'm not sure if it was a conscious decision to remove any homosexual implications. It may very well be, but it might also be that the intended implication went right over their heads and they just translated it weirdly and awkwardly. Because if you'll noticed, the pause is still there, but the sentence is restructured, and they even use the phrase "in love" rather than just love (most English-speaking people don't use the phrase "in love" unless they're confessing to someone or severely over exaggerating). However, if this was an intentional decision to try and remove and homosexual implications, then fuck them. Seriously, just fuck them.
21:02 Nagito: "Now that I'm on the verge of death, I've finally realized what I wanted all along: somebody's love." The Monokuma statues behind him: 💁♀️🙅♀️🙋♀️
if you really think about it, nagito is a person with a good sense of morality and overall...not really that bad. if you take away the hope obsession he has, he's just a normal person. him hating everyone after chapter 4 is proof that he knows the difference between good and bad. he just sees it in his own way. plus, an antagonist that believes in good (in this case, hope) is really interesting! this is why i like him. i get somewhat upset when people say they dont like him at all after the first trial. not saying that you should never hate nagito, youre free to like whoever you want! but i see things from every perspective and possibility and it upsets me when someone instantly has an opinion on something when theyre only given a fraction of the big picture.
My perception towards this character changed like, two times, man. When we first introduced to him, I found him to be the Naegi of this game and instantly like him. But after Komaeda snapped during the first trial, and all the horrible events that mostly happened because of him, he quickly became the character I hated the most. And then surprise, surprise! It was later revealed that his intentions in chapter 5 was actually for the sake of good. And he suddenly, unbelievably became my favorite character. Yes, his action wasn't entirely good; planning to kill of five of his classmates to save the 'traitor' Chiaki, but considering that he knew about the truth that they are Ultimate Despairs, including himself, it is understandable why he chose to do so: he believed that if they were to be left alive, they might cause more damage to the world. Komaeda is just sooo well written and I would consider him to be a great anti-hero (or anti-villain depending on people's perception wether he sided the good or bad). I can't help from feeling annoyed of his actions, but at the end of the day there's part of them that actually would make things work out better, nevertheless (Just like what he said, a bad luck will be followed by an even better good luck).
@@ac_fauzan2805 I don't even think he decided to try and get everyone killed _just_ because they were the Remnants of Despair, either. I think the information he received wasn't enough for him to learn the whole truth, but it was enough for him to deduce that Monokuma had a plan involving the surviving students, and to conclude that the safest bet to foil the plan was to get them all killed, especially since they were all just Remnants of Despair anyway. Of course, his plan "failed", but his luck superseded even his intent, and because Hajime and the others survived, they were able to reach a "good" ending.
I`m probably the only one who`s mind is in the gutter, but at 5:20 that kokeshi doll reminds me some "other" item. Especially since others would refuse "this" item if you give it to them
Does anyone notice Komaeda worry Hajime if he get sick? That remind me what Akane said when I get her four sharp. But Komaeda is in first time. And, well...now I think I know why, Akane don't get too close with Hajime so she dont say it in first time, just when we get her four sharp and we know what life she had, she said it because she in a hard way before. But Komaeda...even though not say anything about himself, he had worry it because he sick before, a serious sick. I see HinaKoma hint now
A new low for Nagito is that he's having a fun time with his new friend and bam they keel over and die right then and there from his "luck". Or since he deems Hajime and him as very similar, he might have assumed that he also has a terminal illness.
Ever since I first met Nagito in the game I felt like I just needed to hug him and say I understand you, Because I literally understand what the heck he is on about y'know, I also talk nonsense so I understand every word he says heh heh *I also totally never thought he might be Makoto disguising and trying to stop Monokuma somehow before the class trial-*

what if this is what happened in chapter five
I would be completely okay with this
I’m studying medicine, and Nagito’s diagnosis of frontotemporal dementia would make sense with his character.
Sophia cancer is curable, but frontotemporal dementia isn’t.

Guys, take your minds off shipping for a second.

Not to mention he has a Short Lifespan, cuz of his stage 3 Dementia.
Good Pun it could be a lie
Could this explain the reaction that Nagito made when Mikan pitied him about how he was never loved? (Sorry if this was worded poorly)

Nagito: "In his fifth Free Time Event, Nagito reveals a lot of personal things to Hajime, telling him about his terminal diseases and his biggest wish being to be loved for once before he dies.

Yeah, he became messed up because his bad luck is rewarded by good luck in form of monetary gain.

Komaeda loves Hinata. Even though the english translation kind of messed it up a little bit (could be translation difficulties or maybe heterowashing, I don't know) he absolutely has romantic feelings for Hinata.
His original line in the last free time event is "どうか忘れないで… ボクはキミを…キミの中に眠る希望を心から愛していると。" (in Kanji: Douka wasurenaide… Boku wa kimi wo… Kimi no naka ni nemuru kibou wo kokoro kara aishiteiru to.)
A very literal translation of that would be, "Please don’t forget… With you, I am… The hope sleeping inside you, (I) love from (the bottom of my) heart."
Translating things from Japanese to English is hard, because the structure of both languages is very different.
Means “hope.”
If you look at the Japanese once more, you'll notice that "wo" becomes "no" by the time he continues his sentence, so the word before it (kimi) becomes a possessive object rather than a direct one.
So basically, if he would have continued his sentence, it would have been something like, "ボクはキミを心から愛していると"
or simply "I love you from the bottom of my heart."
So at first he was going to tell Hinata that it's indeed him as a person he loves, and not something he possesses (in this case, his hope)
There is no way to properly translate it to English because of the different structures, but if you want to keep it as close to the original as possible, you'd probably go with, "Please don’t forget that I love y-…
The hope sleeping inside you… from the bottom of my heart."
Thank you for the explanation. KomaHina forever~

Welp, they erased the love confession. That's a thing that happened.
Glad they did too.
Max Galman ...Glad they erased part of a character? Why?
Ainara Sàiz That wasn't a part of Komaeda to begin with. I mean, that's not a good love confession to begin with.

Tensai _9 I heard the contrary. I heard that, because he didn't appear during the bug,he would mean he probably won't wake up and die in his coma.

In the english version, again, it doesn't seem as much but in the japanese version he says "Douka wasurenaide...Boku wa kimi wo...Kimi no naka ni nemuru kibou wo kokoro kara aishiteiru to."
1. At first he said "Douka wasurenaide..." but then he started his second phrase with "Boku wa kimi wo...". In the first phrase Nagito started his phrase with a direct object but when he picked up again, he switched to a possesive object (The japanese grammar is a bit complicated and very different from the english one, so it might be hard for you to understand)
A more correct translation would be "Please don't forget that I love y- That I love the hope sleeping inside you...from the bottom of my heart..."
NIS America butched a lot of the translations like the one I talked about in Chapter 4, the last line of his FTE which i just talked about and even Mikan's talk about her beloved.

I know I’m late to this but I just have to state the fact that this is probably the most miserable character in the 77th class,
Why?
Because like he says in his last free time event he eventually realised all he wanted was someone’s love.
But he knows that if someone were to love him they’d fall victim to his luck. I’m pretty sure that’s why at times he’s purposefully trying to piss Hajime off so he won’t get close to him.
And he can’t even commit suicide because of his luck. When he thought he actually did it, who knew, they were in the neo world program.
It’s just sad. Can’t even give him a hug. Poor guy.
Ik it's so sad, for the love of God someone give him a hug 😭
Even though many people say they hate him i disagree
He is actually one of the most if not THE most complex and interesting characters in Dangnanronpa
And he was a remnant of despair but even so he still valued hope
What makes me happy is at the result of the neo world program he met hajime who now has the ultimate everything including luck so nagito doesn’t need to worry about hajime being hurt because they’re luck counteract eachother
@@jessicac8090 yeah plus hajime is ultimate hope 😂 its like everything that he always wanted to have.
I always like making scenarios in my head where I'm hajime (bc I don't have an oc and nagito likes hajime) and making it so his luck doesn't affect me so i can give him the love he's always wanted. I like to see him actually happy in my mind 😭 wish it were real.

In Nagito’s first free time event, Hajime says “Should I ask Nagito if he wants to hang out?”
But after chapter 1, he says “Can I even hang out with someone like Nagito...?”
Damn. I can’t believe I didn’t notice that until now.
I noticed lol
it makes me so sad when people call nagito crazy because i mean he isnt really crazy, I mean imagine your entire life being a cycle of good and bad luck and all you want is for it to be over already i mean nagito goes as far as too wish talents werent even a thing because his just has ruined his life so much and the only thing he can even grasp onto is hope, hope that things will get better and if you really put yourself in his shoes he isnt crazy he is just living life the only way he knows how I mean all of the others havent had their life be effected so negatively because of their talents unlike nagito
Unlike the other Ultimates, his luck basically destroyed any chance of him ever getting a normal life. The others' talents saved them, while Komaeda's messed him up. That's what makes him so tragic...
Plus his disease affects his actions too, some people don't do his ftes and hate him which makes me sad
The boy just wants some love :(
Yeah people need to understand that. He is crazy but he isn't *just* crazy. He has so much more to his character

I mean,if I heard Komaeda say "I love the hope that is inside you" I would think he was hitting on someone.
+True Des-Bear (Despair Waffle) idk maybe the direct japanese translation was closer to an actual love confession?? idk i havent seen it
Actually,in the japanese version,he was going to make a confession to Hajime, but rephrased it at the last moment,so it was something like what he said in the english version.
Big Daddy High Noon Showdown Danganronpa fans love to bitch about the sub wherever they can.

AND I WAS CONVINCED THAT BRYCE WOULD DO A GOOD JOB OF IT TOO. ;______;

God I laughed so damn hard lmao. This is why japanese dub will always be superior
Yes, because when I want to give my "friends" something to remember me by, I TOTALLY give them my underwear. Doesn't everyone do that?
ARGH
THE TRANSLATED CONFESSION ISN'T AS SWEET. ;________;
Hajime: “don’t get the wrong idea...”
Me: *havent I heard this before?*

Nagito: *will absolutely get the worst ideas, actually*
im not even a ronpa fan but i love him so much wtf

Nagito was my favourite character for years and I only just played DR 2 weeks ago and finished it 3 days ago and now he is my biggest hyperfixation
Yeah, it is pretty obvious its a love confession. WHY else would Nagito give Hajime UNDERGARMENTS!? Wow, Japanese games are pretty perverted but I don't mind!
Then again... Everyone gives you their undergarments when you finish their Hope Fragments... But still...

I love how Nagito keeps saying that he loves hope, because my name in spanish means 'hope'. So Nagito loves me. End of the story :v
You're real *lucky* then :P
Tienes suerte >:v

I want my name to be esperanza :(

*Please, don't forget...
From the bottom of my heart... I am truly in love with the hope that sleeps inside of you.*
I think in the Japanese version he i says 'aishteru' which basically means I love you.
AWWWWW
DID THEY REMOVE THE LOVE CONFESSION
But he's in love with the hope inside Hajime! It's like saying he loves him!
I was worried about that. Teens getting killed is fine but someone who might be attracted to the same sex is a no no. What a mess up of a good line...
*****
The original line would be better translated as "Komaeda: That I love… …I love the hope sleeping within you from the bottom of my heart." Notice the strategic pause.
AuraChannelerChris Not at all. His love for Hinata is so important BECAUSE it's not based on his love for hope.
omg nagito let hinata hug you pls
at 16:45 he was about to tell Hajime about his illnesses, but decided against it

Nagito: "Now that I'm on the verge of death, I've finally realized what I wanted all along: somebody's love."

if you really think about it, nagito is a person with a good sense of morality and overall...not really that bad. if you take away the hope obsession he has, he's just a normal person. him hating everyone after chapter 4 is proof that he knows the difference between good and bad. he just sees it in his own way. plus, an antagonist that believes in good (in this case, hope) is really interesting! this is why i like him. i get somewhat upset when people say they dont like him at all after the first trial. not saying that you should never hate nagito, youre free to like whoever you want! but i see things from every perspective and possibility and it upsets me when someone instantly has an opinion on something when theyre only given a fraction of the big picture.
In Chapter 1 he acts so normal that even Hajime seems to fall for him instantly

Why is this the only Komaeda free time event thing I can find, I dont even wanna see the english version, Im looking for the official komahina yo
Super late, but Materwelonz has a playthrough of SDR2 with the Japanese voices and she did Komaeda's FTEs. You can hear the official line there :D
I don't like Nagito personally, but I can see why people might like him. He definitely has an interesting story to tell.
i appreciate this comment

He's so cute

So Nagito likes pretty things huh? Just another reason for him to like Hajime I suppose :)
Ever since I first met Nagito in the game I felt like I just needed to hug him and say I understand you,
Because I literally understand what the heck he is on about y'know,
I also talk nonsense so I understand every word he says heh heh

His character has so much meaning and that's why I love him, i want to protect him forever, literally.
