After countless tests between natural, cinelike-d, and cinelike-v on the G7, cinelike-d prevails with contrast -5 sharpness 1 noise reduction -5 saturation -5. Having noise reduction at -5 makes a huge difference in overall sharpness even at ISO 6400. +1 Sharpness brings back the blur of fine text and other object details. The natural profile tends to over expose highlights and darken blacks/shadows even with contrast and saturation at -5. Cinelike-v tends to lose a lot of detail in blacks and shadows due to over darkening.
The high ISO tests were not solely for night shots, but to see how the image quality is affected with the contrast, sharpness, noise reduction and saturation settings at ISO 6400. ISO 6400 really softens and loses a lot of detail, so it was easier to see flaws in quality. The settings mentioned above actually restore the flaws at high ISO making the footage very useable. And yes to each his own xD
Imho CineD is almost good, except for 1 thing, the skin tones, mid tones are too compressed and if overall looks good the skin tones are pretty weird, with a yellow/greenish tint.
Bro I do not recommend this. If you lower your contrast to -5, you are basically increasing the shadows, and you are bringing up Noise. There is no improvement in the dynamic range. I've tried these settings and it's bad for the footage. Trying to make the G7 have a Log Profile with a non-log profile doesn't work, or at least that's what I've found out. Instead, why not think differently? If you feel the shadows are too dark, why not film at another time of the day? if you are in a controlled environment, why not turn on some light to bring up the shadows? Lowering the saturation to -5 will make you loose information that will not be there once you are color grading, instead try -2 or -3.. You lower the saturation later in Davinci very easily. You can even do it for specific colors only. But bringing back colors that are not there it's very hard. Your talent has too much red on the face? use makeup. I'd say try to fix everything at the source first. Here are some settings I find useful: Cinelike D, Contrast 0, Sharpess -5, Noise Reduction -5, Saturation -2 or -3. leave Highlights at -1, Shadows at 0. I don't like grading with LUTs, but if you wanna do it, and it doesn't look good on your footage, I wouldn't change the camera settings to match the LUT, instead use something like the 3D LUT Creator to modify the LUT to fit your footage better.
I tried these setting and I am getting a lot of grains and noise. How do i savage my footage. I am stuck and I really don't know a way out. I have come to realize that your comment is true. Do you know a way out for me.
Use the Neat Video Denoiser plugin. It'll help you for now. Also, yes stop using this setting, you will get noise no matter how much light you use because basically these settings are boosting the shadows the same you'd do in color grading, and you never never really wanna do that unless you are shooting raw or at least 10-bit, and then you have a bit more headroom. But with 8-bit video, you don't want that, for which you get noise with these settings. One thing you could try right now, crush the shadows, it might fix your footage.
Do you still stand by your Cinelike D settings for the G7 Matias? My film crew and I are going to start filming next week on a short film with the G7. I would like to maybe make my own G7 Lut's for looks I can use now and in the future.
I appreciate the video! I am new to the camera and any type of photography. In my observation, you are trying get the cleanest image and add touches in post right?
So you're recommending this for both video and still are you getting good results shooting jpeg with these settings as well or are you just shooting raw
@@anselmoreal thanks. You have any recommendations for still.. I've been playing around but I can't really get a look that I like..a classic film feel which on many of my other cameras I've been able to mess around with the profiles to get something I like, but this camera just seems to not respond as easy. it seems to be that just turning everything off or down and boosting in post seems to be the way to go on this camera..
in doing so allows the camera collect as much data as possible for you to manipulate however you please later on in post rather than being stuck with what you got from the camera settings,
Hello Anselmo .. I bought the G7 and should arrive soon. Can you help me by indicating a good on-camera setting for landscape shooting? in conditions of sunlight. Congratulations..added your videos. Greetings from Brazil..
Marcelo Cateysson it all depends on your personal preference, start with the cine profiles and tweak it as I show in the video, like I said it all depends on the look you are looking for, but testing is the best way to go
Thanks for the answer. Actually, I asked wrong. It would be for filming landscapes in 4K because I live near waterfalls..etc ... But as you commented ... I went through the film profile line and adjusting to taste ... and searching for a different lens than the Kit. (14-42mm) Thank you
Hi, nice video ! Excuse my bad English but I have a question: I bought myself the G7 last week, but I’m not able to select a picture style because its not „clickable“ . What can I do to activate it ? Greetings from Austria
Even in manual mode it is not possible. I have already switched to the normal manual mode and to the manual video-mode. Are there any settings I have to change ?
Grimbolino yes I’m not talking about the dial buttons, in the setting menus look for A automatic and M manual, I don’t have the camera with me now, but there is a setting on your menu just play around with the menu options , let me know
Sorry but that first picture looked like shit with the effects. The colors looked fake and way over saturated. Just my opinion. Cin D does a pretty good job with some tweaking

hiblendmedia I don't shoot with night ISO, at the end color grading is subjective, but definitely good to see other points of view!!!

Matias Rengel I respect your opinion, that’s why my settings are used in sunlight conditions.
I tried these setting and I am getting a lot of grains and noise. How do i savage my footage. I am stuck and I really don't know a way out. I have come to realize that your comment is true. Do you know a way out for me.
Martin Ayala that means you need more light, you can’t use this or any other settings without sufficient light, take some outdoor shots and test it
Use the Neat Video Denoiser plugin. It'll help you for now. dude i love your style. Sound effects and overall editing. I also have a G7 and it's good to see similar M43 brothers doing good work
Fellipe Rodrigues best camera for the money have fun!!!
I appreciate the video! I am new to the camera and any type of photography. In my observation, you are trying get the cleanest image and add touches in post right?
thanks a lot. really the best settings. tried everything include different options in cinelike D and V.
great video. this was exactly what i was after.thanks again.
Glad I could help
hey papa do you still use the same settings, what about shadow hiighlight option?
This are still my favorite settings, just if I plan to do color grading, I believe shadows and highlights are kept by default in camera
Did you use any custom curve for highlights/shadows?
This should also work on the LX100 by the way.
Stop using pixlr for your dp edits.
What is the color grading plug you used at the end?
Can you explain why you turned sharpness down? Isn't that a thing you don't want to miss?
Christian Hegener hey it’s just a personal preference, Panasonic tends to sharpen the videos by default too much, you can always add it back in post.
So you're recommending this for both video and still are you getting good results shooting jpeg with these settings as well or are you just shooting raw
unbroken1010 this is just for video!
@@anselmoreal thanks. You have any recommendations for still.. So you take the color etc off the camera to put it back in Post?
Jacky Amar kind of,
Ansel Rodriguez not kind of, that's exactly what you did
in doing so allows the camera collect as much data as possible for you to manipulate however you please later on in post rather than being stuck with what you got from the camera settings,
its exactly what you should do, otherwise you are stuck with what the camera chose, gives you much more to play with in post.
Video really helped just got my g7 thanks cuz
mister Sanchez awesome!!! Have fun with the camera
Mirrorless Tips very nice

Nice work. Thanks!
what Kodak effect is that
why is cinelike d not an option on my lumix g7? do i have to download some upgrade or something? it is just not there
Jake Lundell that's very odd, are you sure? It should be there by default, not on the gx85 tho, go to the official Panasonic page
Idk i got the camera a little over a year ago, maybe that's the reason? i will go to the panasonic page and email or call them. thanks for your help
Jake Lundell You have to be in movie mode. Otherwise it wont appear
yeah i realized that after i posted the comment. haha i'm such an idiot
Which software do you use to correct these pictures.
Can you do a video on the GX85 please
Jake M Luksenberg final cut
why not cineD?
natural profile delivers better dinamic range and colors in my opinion.
Hi, nice video ! Excuse my bad English but I have a question: I bought myself the G7 last week, but I’m not able to select a picture style because its not „clickable“ . What can I do to activate it ?
Greetings from Austria
Grimbolino hey, you need to put your setting to M , Which is manual mode
Even in manual mode it is not possible. I have already switched to the normal manual mode and to the manual video-mode. Are there any settings I have to change ?
Grimbolino yes I’m not talking about the dial buttons, in the setting menus look for A automatic and M manual, I don’t have the camera with me now, but there is a setting on your menu just play around with the menu options , let me know
Only in iA mode I am able to change between standard and monochrome.
The settings in normal manual mode, in manual video mode or in any other mode on this big wheel on the top ?
how can i have the post focus in the G7?
please help me if anyone know. thank u
Post-focus is only a feature for photos. You can't post-focus a video.
do i have to pay to get the LUT plugin?
yes
Marco Rosales you can downloaded a free trial of red giant software that has some pretty good color correction tools and presets
colorgrading I meant
Ehhhh..did you add the blackbars in editing? Looks really un-natural
Trulstei my hair was a mess :)
Sorry but that first picture looked like shit with the effects. The colors looked fake and way over saturated. Just my opinion. Cin D does a pretty good job with some tweaking
What's with the letterboxes? 😂
Joel my hair, lol
Eh, the effects "on" looks a little burnt.
mackuss depends on your monitor!! Also your taste
Sharpness should NOT be -5. You dont want it to be soft.
Morten Skov my results are far from soft, you can always add sharpness in post!
Mirrorless Tips not with great results. Trust me and go check again.
