E50M Review/Guide, Covering a Flank Solo

- I review the E50M, the beefier of the two tier 10 German medium tanks in World of Tanks (WoT).
Stat line: Ace Tanker, 5.2k damage, 2 kills, 2 spots, 2k assisted damage
I discuss the weighty responsibility of holding a flank solo, knowing when and where to push, and considerations when flanking the enemy near their base.
This video is part of my "Road to Unicum" series in which I share what I've learned as I progress towards account Unicum rating (top 1%) with silver ammo only. I talk through how I'm reading the battle as it unfolds and discuss key decisions and mistakes. My hope is that these videos meaningfully help other players improve their gameplay.

I've got a lot of good illustrative footage of various tanks, so let me know which of the following tanks you're interested in for future videos or specific topics you'd like for me to address:
* Cromwell
* E75
* ELC AMX

Thank you Taugrim for taking the time and providing needed advices to this tomato.
Mindburstable every player starts as a tomato. The hope is that one can graduate to potato, and eventually green, then blue, and maybe even purple ;)
High skill in game, good voice, informative commentary.. Its hard to find all of em in one channel. ^^New sub^^
HVTV thanks for the positive feedback, I appreciate it!
I like it, clear shedding of thoughts, solid gameplay, and no use of those engine sound mods.
throughlifeagain thanks!I considered making videos using replays from other players, but I'm finding it easier to save replays right after good battles which I think highlight good application of tactics and showcase map meta and other considerations.
Well thought out content. As a new player on WOT x box one, your description of the game flow is very valuable. Good piece, thumbs up.
Finally! a good and informative guide on how to play an E50 ausf M, thank you so much for this
You're welcome :)
Dietfrid Mali it's more about reading game flow than luck.
If there had been more tanks east, they would have fired on me when I started peeking around the corner, and even if I didn't spot them, I'd know they were out there. In which case I would have tried to bait the 61 around the corner so he's the only tank that can fire on me. Or I flex to another part of the map.
The *absence* of incoming fire from other tanks was a big clue that there were no such tanks, which is why I made the decision after killing the 61 to rush the 0 line and spot their arties.
I almost agree. Not being fired at when peeking around the corner doesn't mean there is no potent enemy tank nearby. I have around 30K battles, and I have experienced pleasant as well as nasty surprises when moving around the building at that position of this map.
Hey Taugrim, love your videos, just wanted to ask about your map being so small, maybe you got a big screen. It just looks tough to get a quick reference of enemy team layout. I'm an orange player so perhaps a bigger map is handy for less experienced players
when will you do the road to unicum in the leopard 1?
You're a really good player to watch and learn from. Keep up the good work!
Robert Reiter thanks!
Came here because of FTR, and left satisfied. Subscribed instantly after two videos of WoT!
I have 1 thing bothers me though, what program do you use for recording? It looks a bit blurry even on 1080p, i think you compressed the videos too much..
Nice vid and voice anyway, carry on Taugrim!
> what program do you use for recording? It looks a bit blurry even on 1080p, i think you compressed the videos too much
I use Adobe Premier Elements, with an output format of MP4. The videos look great on my PC.
The way RUclips encodes them, some quality is lost, and after researching I can't find a way to workaround the RUclips encoding.
I've tried some different encodings/formats to no success.
If you know of any workarounds, let me know!
> Nice vid and voice anyway, carry on Taugrim!
Thanks!
This! Place your tank where your gun can be active, while minimising the risk of getting damaged. That's where the Unicum stats grow:)
Edward Blomstrand indeed. Unicum is about doing multiple things at once - damaging, spotting, etc.
Great vids man, found on FTR, keep up the good work !
Thanks Knox :)
Good stuff Taugrim!!
Great video Taugrim! Thanks!
Nice and educational, enjoying your vids
Hello Taugrim. I hope you can make an updated video about the E-50M. I wanna know how you handle and use a tank like this now, given the current meta. 'Cause I first got this after this video a few years back, actually. But after a 3-year break, and basically being brought back into being a total noob, I don't know how to use the tank anymore in the current meta. :c
Or maybe at least comment on how to use this tank now, if you don't feel that this tank isn't worth it anymore. I might just sell it and retrain my crew for another class altogether.
yes mate the trees usually let you know where animie is before get vesible...i lkie you explains man, and i understand fine(for a portuguese);)
Mad Power > i lkie you explains man, and i understand fine(for a portuguese);)
I wish I could understand your language as well as you understand written and spoken English!
lol i bet!
Is not so handy as english, but still spoken in a lot of countries, much more for being close to spanish that is also spoken in many coutries;)
Language can be a great barrier;)
Only thing I might of done differently, I would of gone for a ram on the Bat once it blew it's clip on you. (E50M is a 60 ton tank, Bat is only 24 tons, the damage you would of taken would of been minimal). But that's really a minor quibble, the game was well played.
Yes, when possible the E50M weighs a lot and gets the better end of ramming exchanges.
In this case, I had no way of knowing how many shots were in its clip when we engaged. I started driving toward it and wiggling not so much to ram - a good BC driver would drive circles around an E50M and not allow themselves to get rammed in the open - but rather to disrupt his aim since his gun is very inaccurate and if he's having to move his turret he's more likely to miss.
He would've never caught up to him though. He's out of there immediately.

Hey, just wanted to say hi, I've seen your videos :)
Taugrim Well hi back :)
I like your videos. Not focusing on the "easy" to master tanks and more on just overall gameplay, which can be transfered to other tanks.
@Taugrim would you consider doing a review of E50-M in today's meta?
Nice series you have started. You do talk a _lot_ which might be a good thing, but it is a lot to swallow for lesser skilled players.
Maybe you could pause the replay, talk about what is happening and what your thought process is at that point, instead of trying to catch up with fast talking? Just a suggestion.
Lowlife I hear you. I don't want to pause the battle per se as it disrupts the organic flow.Part of the challenge for me is there are so many subtle points to make, and I'm trying to pack a lot of information into relatively short 7-10 min videos. Making videos is time-consuming, and I don't want to cut into my gaming time.If I continue to get feedback that the pace and volume of information is too much / overwhelming, I'll consider different approach(es).
Taugrim Im not the intended audience tough, just something I observed.
Great vid! Thanks for making it! I for one am happy to watch vids where you cram even MORE tips and tricks into it. Enjoying the vids and taking notes!
learning a lot from your videos. can you tell me what graphic settings i should have on or off and how high they should be set im running the Hd on high but i fill like some of them don't need to be on at all
+chuck finley > learning a lot from your videos
Glad to hear it!
> can you tell me what graphic settings i should have on or off
Short answer: no
Longer answer: if you use Nvidia you can have GeForce Experience apply the right graphics settings. Aside from that, Google your GPU manufacturer and WoT settings
the e50ms lower plate isnt really aa weakspot.its stronger then the upper plates of the russian meds.
Hey Taugrim, I don’t know if you’re still replying to comments on these ancient videos, but what do you think of the newly buffed E50M?
What equipment and shell ratios would you suggest on the e50? I am not the best of players but am really excited to play this tank! I appreciated your analysis of the match, it was helpful! thanks
luc andersen standard med layout of Optics/Rammer/VS.
In terms of shell ratios, it depends how much gold you are willing to load. I don't use any (for reasons stated in the FAQs: taugrim.com/2015/02/19/faqs-for-taugrims-road-to-unicum-videos-for-world-of-tanks/).
That said, a general rule of thumb is to load enough gold to kill 2 of the hardest targets you'll face.
Thank you. I was actually referring to the amount of HE a medium should carry. I rarely use HE and wondered if I need to reassess things. I really appreciate your videos, I have watched them all nearly twice now in hopes of picking up tips. cheers
luc andersen oh, in that case, for guns with low ammo capacity (e.g. IS-7), I load ~5 HE shells, and for guns with high ammo capacity I run ~10 HE shells.
I used to run with fewer HE shells primarily for cap resets, but against some tanks (e.g. WTE100, arties, etc) HE is amazing.
I was rather surprised at your choice here. Holding a flank solo works out for me only once in a blue moon and even then it tends to be a sub par game for me because I might get a few shots off but things tend to slow down to a stand off until my team comes rond. Most times I get rushed and overwhelmed or in spite of all the tanks I'm keeping tied up my team still gets decimated on the other flank. Does this kind of play honestly work out for you more often than not?
+sacristar > I was rather surprised at your choice here. Holding a flank solo works out for me only once in a blue moon
I didn't like having to do it, but the other tanks lemming'd to the west and it was either hold the flank, or risk having our team lose map control.
> Does this kind of play honestly work out for you more often than not?
Well, if they had a numbers advantage and pushed the flank hard, I would have had to retreat. Getting run over is pointless.
In this case, based on the locations of spotted tanks, I could reasonably guess that they weren't going to send the house east.
Alright, thanks for the response =) I guess my own experience has made me a lot more cautious but I guess that can be attributed to the differences that separate a blue from a purple player. And not even deep blue at that.
do you guys accept players that are boosting their stats in you clan?for example i would like to get in a clan that haas friendly players with good stats and actually teach how to play better +have FUN
Wait, did the "ally" next to you try to teamkill you at the end of the battle?
LOL you noticed that.
Yes, the 7/1 driver fired in my direction.
I don't know if he meant to actually hit me (and I would have died due to low HP), but he may not have been happy that I got the killshot on the BatChat.
Yeah, that's what I was assuming too. Does this kind of things happen often on the NA server?
You were bloody lucky that a) no other enemy tanks were at the east flank and that b) enemy arty ignored you. If there had been e.g. a tank destroyer at the north east corner of the town, he would have shredded you while you were trying to take down the Type 61.
I think you back off to fast. Its like you have a "reflex" that when you have shot you automaticly reverse. So when you noticed the Bat was on reload you should have chased him and not backed. In this situation it didnt matter (he came back), but letting him go like that can be a big mistake in other circumtances.
I will watch some more and see if I can get any pointers.
> So when you noticed the Bat was on reload you should have chased him and not backed.
I wasn't sure that the BC was reloading until he clearly started driving away.
As far as the moving around after firing, it is intentional. I don't want to give my opponent a stationary target, and by moving I'm trying to introduce some dispersion on his part as he aims at me while I'm moving.
That said, I should have landed some of the earlier shots on him.
I've just seen a couple of vids, so it may be just stupid of me to comment. But for me it looks like its not intentional, but more like out of habbit. Its a good habbit, no question about that, but it doesnt seem like you dont think each back off through.
I have a way more aggressive style of play. So it may be just that.
I do like it that you show its possible to do good while not using any premium ammo.
ZShalafi
> Its a good habbit, no question about that, but it doesnt seem like you dont think each back off through.
Hmmm, that's interesting feedback. I'll try to see whether I do that, in future videos.
> I have a way more aggressive style of play
Instead of backing off, do you charge, or stay in place so your aiming reticle doesn't bloom with movement?
> I do like it that you show its possible to do good while not using any premium ammo.
I'm trying! :)
I didn't know tier 10s shot acpr
Sadly the E50Ms turret is just embarassingly weak. Anything with 200 pen doesnt even have to aim really, just go for the turret..
i forget to tell you that my tank of tier 3 is acculay antitank(i think lol)
russian SU-76...so you see against tier 5 is no mach...to have good kick(gun) it looses in power, tower that don`t have and armor is very poor.but in tier 3 is great to camp, even 4 can do alright sometimes, but this gun for tier 5, for mosdt of them is not so special, wich is my only advantage, wich in tier 5 solve`s it self, leaving me with crapy tank that only fire straight, and you do not want to trade shoots with this guy aginst tier 5 tanks. it is super soft...in begining i fought i would only fight tier 3, so this was the main reason for me to buy it...huge mistake.but i donT´regreat, is diferent play but still fun!
damn that type 61 was leech.
why do you keep saying -BULBA- player as if the game revolves around him.
There's no such thing as ACPR rounds, good video though.
Read the Armament section in the right rail of the WoT Wiki page:
wiki.wargaming.net/en/Tank:E50_Ausf_M
Taugrim you said ACPR, thats my point, but nvm, sorry for wasting your time.
Pito da Costa E50M fires ACPR.
What's your point?
Taugrim i think you meant APCR.
Pito da Costa oh LOL, right :D
2:09 I'd have been shot by arty at least twice if I hugged that corner for too long. :/
Борис Гаганелов Oh, I tend to attract a lot of arty fire, because of XVM.
Also keep in mind in this battle that my team had tanks all the way in the NW corner, so one of their arties was fixated on them.
I know that feeling. :(
I have a love/hate relationship with xvm. Anything above blue tends to recieve a lot of love.
Clearly your video card needed upgrading.
Yea this video is 5.5 years old.
Starting with Episode #8 I use high or ultra graphics settings. Nowadays I post videos in 1080p60 since I can run ultra with my new Sager gaming laptop.
@@taugrim I figured as much. It's cool to see progression.
