This is because Heyman, cornet, Bill Watts, Ric Flair , and many other stars who the wrestling Observer put over we're Dave's Buddies. None of these promotions Drew what the WWF did at the time. Yet, they still got major preferential treatment in The Observer, with Japan being the only promotions that got more favorable treatment. And that's because Meltzer is a mark for Japanese wrestling. Aew made a big fuss about a sports based presentation, which is what New Japan has, which is what Bryan Alvarez and Dave Meltzer put it over for. The only problem is, aew does Sports entertainment, because pro wrestling is so wacky and Goofy you cannot prevent it in an American promotion as anything other than an entertainment Enterprise. If you want to present a shoot fighting League the way that Ring of Honor is attempting to do again, that is actually what is insulting the audience's intelligence.
Ikr, the standard have been lowered to such an extent (FTR had a great performance, but stuff like them starting the match working babyface, and having the handicapped bucks beating them clean disqualifies it for being great)

No wonder Brock Lesnar shut Moxley down and buried him in their Wrestlemania match. He knew his style was trash. If Lesnar respects his opponent, it'll be a great match. This wasn't the case for Moxley.
Corny got farther into this match than I did. I turned it off when Kingston wrapped the wire around his fist. I've been shredded by REAL barbed wire so any use of fake barbed wire loses me immediately. Moxley left WWE because he wanted to work his own style and NOT the company's style.
I got to the part two mins before where Moxley bladed himself outside of ring ...lost intrest and I quit ...Magnum v Tully is the gold standard of this type of match this debacle was no where close.
Tully Blanchard vs. Magnum TA for the NWA United States Heavyweight Championship in a steel cage with "I Quit" rules is still the best "I Quit" match to this day. Tully and Magnum did use the cage as a weapon, but other than that they only had the microphone and the wooden chair that Baby Doll threw over the cage to use at their disposal. And Tully never did say the words "I Quit". That match is a 10 out of 10. Moxley vs. Kingston is a 4 out of 10, and that's being generous.
truly. the level of passion and violence in that match is unmatched. nothing will top the shot of Tully trying to gouge Magnum's eye out...you believed they were trying to kill eachother and thats while watching it with modern eyes

While the match itself was pretty bad, I think Eddie Kingston did a phenomenal job selling at the end. Not so much the pain of having the barbed wire in his face, but I could sense the emotions of him letting his mother down and failing to get the title. To me that was great storytelling on his part as it's rare that a match these days reminds me of everything said in the build up.
Eddie Kingston needs gym time. Lots and lots of gym time. Dude can talk his ass off but straight up he looks like a guy that should be wrestling in the opening match of a local mud show where midgets main event.
Its definitely time for Moxley to drop the title, I like him but his run is getting a little boring now. Forget Omega, get Pac back and have him be the one to take the title off Moxley.

Kingston is dimes on the mic, his moveset isn't bad either, really vanilla but he has that powerhouse movement. His problem is his appearance. He's got a gut that he seriously needs to lose, the dude needs to hit the gym badly. He's lacking muscles almost all around. I really want to see this guy do some amazing things and eventually have the belt put on him but he really needs to work on his physical appearance.
Mox seldom wrestled with weapons when he was in WWE except during no DQ matches. Yet again, WWE is the biggest wrestling promotion in the world and not some indie mudshow promotion.

It is more accurate and intentional to say AEW is an irreverent presentation of pro wrestling from the 1990s and 00s. Khan and all the EVPs have stated that was their favorite era, in particular the Nitro era and style. Likewise almost all the content, inside jokes, merch and so on specifically and knowingly winking at the audience- it is literally what built their notoriety. I did not think this Mox vs. Kingston match was very good either. It really lacked focus and was full of sloppy spots as usual. For all the talk of being a bell to bell promotion, AEW shows out a lot of sloppy in ring work. Its never consistent.
I love Eddie Kingston, but like I keep stressing for me he needs to work on that gut. Great promo, good worker, wasn't ready for a run at the title yet as he is only on TV a few months & in that regard he is very green. So it was slow paced, hardcore stuff was overused, not enough wrestling in terms of moves. The finish annoyed me too.
I would love to see them show Eddie physically and mentally transform, and then come back much fitter and stronger than Moxley and take the title off him.

The whole Moxley Omega feud revolves around 2 styles of wrestling, Kenny didn't wanna get in the ring because of the state it was in (reminiscent of their lights out match) and kenny doesnt want any of that. he knows he can out wrestle Moxley, and he'll get that chance on their second encounter.

If wrestler A beats wrestler B and it is obvious wrestler B was outmatched, that isn't setting up for matches down the road because why would I believe wrestler B has a chance. John Moxley did a good job defending the AEW hardcore championship again. Moxley and Eddie Kingston remind me of JBL in that they can cut good promos, but their in ring isn't the greatest. JBL could at least get a good match with the right opponent. Moxley since he's not in WWE anymore...that's another story

Yeah, I didn't watch this match. After reading some online reviews, I'm glad I didn't. I am not a big fan of either man. I didn't like Moxley in WWE, and I don't like him now. I hoped I would see something in him after he got out from under Vince's thumb, but it just isn't there. As for Kingston, he shouldn't be wrestling at all right now. His conditioning is so horrible that I don't even see how it is possible for him to pass a physical. As for the match itself, I would have turned it off at the same point that Jim did. Much like the Suicide Dive, thumbtacks and barbed wire spots take me out of a match completely. What's the point? Why use barbed wire and thumbtacks in a match? There is now way to do it safely. If it were a real fight, why would you use thumbtacks when there are chairs, tables, steps, and all kinds of much more dangerous shit around the ring area that could be used more believably and safely? That's the one bad thing that I can say about Mick Foley and the Undertaker. That damn Hell in a Cell has injured countless people and let to countless shitty matches over the last 20 years.

I'd love it if that happened. Sadly based on discussions in other videos it seems like a lot of people think his accent is too thick for him to work as champion (I'd say it works for his character personally and I don't have problems understanding him).

I knew this match wouldn’t live up to the fantastic promos. It just feels like it was missing something, & it looked like at least 3 of Moxley’s title defenses
No way it could live up to the promos because the promos were done by plumber Mox and local fatso Eddie Kingston. Hiring one of them is laughable, booking _both_ in a “world title” match is hilarity of a kind that has never been seen before.

Kingston is dimes on the mic, his moveset isn't bad either, really vanilla but he has that powerhouse movement. His problem is his appearance. He's got a gut that he seriously needs to lose, the dude needs to hit the gym badly. He's lacking muscles almost all around. I really want to see this guy do some amazing things and eventually have the belt put on him but he really needs to work on his physical appearance.
I watched the Match and soon as I saw the Rubbing Alcohol I was done. I'm over Jon Moxley and his act.

It is more accurate and intentional to say AEW is an irreverent presentation of pro wrestling from the 1990s and 00s. Khan and all the EVPs have stated that was their favorite era, in particular the Nitro era and style. Likewise almost all the content, inside jokes, merch and so on specifically and knowingly winking at the audience- it is literally what built their notoriety.
I did not think this Mox vs. Kingston match was very good either. It really lacked focus and was full of sloppy spots as usual. For all the talk of being a bell to bell promotion, AEW shows out a lot of sloppy in ring work. Its never consistent.
Just create a hardcore title for Mox and give the main title to someone else.

I love Eddie Kingston, but like I keep stressing for me he needs to work on that gut. Great promo, good worker, wasn't ready for a run at the title yet as he is only on TV a few months & in that regard he is very green. So it was slow paced, hardcore stuff was overused, not enough wrestling in terms of moves. The finish annoyed me too.
I would love to see them show Eddie physically and mentally transform, and then come back much fitter and stronger than Moxley and take the title off him.

I liked the first match, but this one was a bit too indulgent. And I like both guys, but I could not get into this match.

Did I see this right - Omega came out for the big staredown, got to the ring and then stopped and picked a stone out of his shoe or something before looking at Moxley? He looked away for something insignificant, which then made the staredown insignificant - way to go Omega.

The whole Moxley Omega feud revolves around 2 styles of wrestling, Kenny didn't wanna get in the ring because of the state it was in (reminiscent of their lights out match) and kenny doesnt want any of that. he knows he can out wrestle Moxley, and he'll get that chance on their second encounter.

If wrestler A beats wrestler B and it is obvious wrestler B was outmatched, that isn't setting up for matches down the road because why would I believe wrestler B has a chance. It's not only the end result but how you get there that matters. And I am pretty sure JC knows how long-term booking works, he only did it for years.

Old school MMA was built around types of matches weather they would use BJJ or kickboxing rules. That’s why I laugh when JC says that Omega doesn’t have psychology.
John Moxley did a good job defending the AEW hardcore championship again. Moxley and Eddie Kingston remind me of JBL in that they can cut good promos, but their in ring isn't the greatest. JBL could at least get a good match with the right opponent. Moxley since he's not in WWE anymore...that's another story

If you are even remotely a fan of what wrestling should be, find the match and watch it. Corny is going to refer to it for a good while yet. It was easily the best match I have seen in a very long time. Amazing. Totally different to anything coming out of the US in years too.

Yeah, I didn't watch this match. After reading some online reviews, I'm glad I didn't. I am not a big fan of either man. I didn't like Moxley in WWE, and I don't like him now. I hoped I would see something in him after he got out from under Vince's thumb, but it just isn't there. As for Kingston, he shouldn't be wrestling at all right now. His conditioning is so horrible that I don't even see how it is possible for him to pass a physical. As for the match itself, I would have turned it off at the same point that Jim did. Much like the Suicide Dive, thumbtacks and barbed wire spots take me out of a match completely. What's the point? Why use barbed wire and thumbtacks in a match? There is now way to do it safely. If it were a real fight, why would you use thumbtacks when there are chairs, tables, steps, and all kinds of much more dangerous shit around the ring area that could be used more believably and safely? That's the one bad thing that I can say about Mick Foley and the Undertaker. That damn Hell in a Cell has injured countless people and let to countless shitty matches over the last 20 years.
Eddie Kingston is the best promo out right now but his matches usually stretch aren't good at all.
