I even called PlayStation but these steps don’t work, after doing all this I got a message saying You cannot sign in to another ps account id or some bs like that . I guess they are doing the samething apple was doing to their users messing up their previous versions of phones to force people into buying their latest model. They don’t want to shell out the money to keep the online servers on for PS3 so they’ve probably cooked up this little scheme to deter users from trying to sign in. I was able to sign in once. I checked all the boxes to save my info and sign in automatically. Log back into profile and you get a freaking auto sign in error! Wants you to do the QR code again. Why can’t they just leave stuff alone!
Does not work for me, when I type the new password as the new QR code device password it then keeps giving me the QR screen to generate another. Round and round I go. Update: also done via setup a new account, and verified it etc. On the new account login, still wants me to do the QR on the new account and round and round we go again.

I had the same issue. I logged onto my account on my phone and went into account management and enabled 2-step verification. You’ll have to enter your phone number and and enter the code you’re sent. After that’s enabled, it let me use the generated device code for my ps3 and I was able to log in! :)

I can confirm the problem with the screen lies in the 2 step verrification. Once this has been turned on in your account (via website) then it suddenly works and stops looping
Hey, I've been having this issue. I have looked up the steps to do this, I have done EVERYTHING it has told me to do, and I STILL can't get that to work.
OK figured it out. Created new user profile on ps3(slight difference in user name from my original user profile) Turned off ps3 Signed in from PC to PSN account set up 2step authentication. Created new device code with system off. Went to login(on playstation)/ sign up but use existing account and signed in from that blue screen with generated code as password. It worked for me on two differnt ps3s hope this helps
Sir, I'm so appreciative for this! My PS4 Pro shit the bed for some reason; I haven't played it in weeks. I downloaded the reinstallation file & software file, put it on an external HDD, hooked it up to it & it still wasn't working. Whatever, so I went back to my PS3 and I can't log into my account for some reason & it's having problems connecting to my internet. So, I found this video, did what you said...and I was angry I didn't even see that screen with the scan code. I just went to the website address, did it and it was downloading the recent system update...then it stopped saying that it wasn't connected anymore!?!?!? I'll figure it out, but thanks for making this video. I'll just hold out with the ps3 until those PS5 Pro models come out which doesn't seem that long away.
No back wards back compatibility so I kept my ps3 when I got a ps4 and I also bought a ps1 and ps2. Makes me never want to buy a ps5. Why should I have to own 5 consoles and now my ps3 is useless.
To anyone still having trouble with this even after doing the above steps. You might have to turn 2 factor authentication on. I found this from one of the posts below and it worked for me. I tried reimaging my playstation and swapped the hard drive(was going to do this for another reason anyway) and it still didn't work. 2 factor did and it was immediate. I used a phone number to activate it. Not sure if that matters. Hope this helps.
Update November 2023: I sifted through a ton of the comments after being annoyed with this and nothing was working and I think i found the issue. If you keep getting the QR code over and over, you need to go into your PS account, and make sure you have dual-authentication enabled. If you don't, it will keep giving you the qr code. Once you enable it, it should work properly.

I bet you in a year or so they will announce the end of psn for older consoles completely. Meanwhile, only a percentage of players, chosen by Sony can continue, for now. After trial & error (since I contacted Sony and they told me they could not provide support for PS3 any longer) I logged into my account on my computer and enabled 2 step verification again. I used my same phone number and I took a screenshot of the backup codes (although I did not use them) Then I restarted my PS3 and generated a new device password on my computer and it worked, FINALLY!

In order to do this you have to enable 2 step verification on your Sony account from a web browser. Then the QR method will work. I read this in another forum.
For those who are struggling on their phone, here’s what worked for me: I went to try to sign in for the billionth time and typed in the link, went back to enter the password, and it didn’t work. After that I set up the two-factor authentication. I then restarted my PS3 and when I went to sign in, I used the password it had given me before I restarted, and it worked!

Hi everyone, if you’re still having issues logging in. I recommend turning off your 2 step verification in your account settings through web browser whether on mobile or computer. Once you’ve logged in, just re-activate your 2 step verification again because it is handy to keep. Hope this works and helps. 😊

If you ever changed your email address on ps4 it would automatically put the old email in tee email address box on ps3 so you have to check if there is always your current email address in the box

Just tells me "you cannot sign in another's email address" ( it is my damn email address🤦♂️) when i go through the password change loop on the site and putting in the new password on the ps3 sign in menu 😒 I just don't know what to do at this state. My PS3 sign in doesn't even look like that. It goes to a blue sign in screen and then lags like a mfer and won't show me typing in real time. I have to type my user name and hit enter a couple times for it to show up, same for my password. Now it's locked up after the SFA password I did on my desktop. UGH
If the system says that you have tried many times to enter the play station account on the ps3. All you have to do is delete all ps3 users and make one and do the step by step of this video. Good luck!
My PS4 fan seized up, so I started my PS3 to watch sone streaming services. As others stated, this doesn’t work. I cannot enter codes on my PS3. It prompts me to do so, but not interface opens to enter a code. I entered codes on my phone, but it doesn’t work. I checked PSN, my PS3 is activated. I assume that Y…ube stopped support for the PS3, just as other streaming services have. PS3 is just for playing old games, now, it’s not an “entertainment system.” How difficult was it to just leave things alone? Nope. They had to do updates to the PS3 app that screw PS3 owners. Also, I notice my system is EXTREMELY SLOW, now. It takes about 10 seconds to open or close any apps of my PS3.

@ChrisPL: PS3 doesn't accept 2 step, it clearly says to use Device Password [ which appears to be bugged as I have generated one 4 times today and the machine won't accept it ] set up for PS3, 2 step only works for the other systems. If the code is not working try activating 2 step verification on your account, I did that after countless attempts and it finally worked.

My own issue was the link provided on my ps3, when i type into a browser took me to sony's 404 every time. i had others verify i typed it in right and everything. but the link in this video's description somehow works? wtf?

My PS3 sign in doesn't even look like that. It goes to a blue sign in screen and then lags like a mfer and won't show me typing in real time. I have to type my user name and hit enter a couple times for it to show up, same for my password. Now it's locked up after the SFA password I did on my desktop. UGH
If the system says that you have tried many times to enter the play station account on the ps3. All you have to do is delete all ps3 users and make one and do the step by step of this video. Good luck!

As others stated, this doesn’t work.
I cannot enter codes on my PS3. It prompts me to do so, but not interface opens to enter a code.
I entered codes on my phone, but it doesn’t work.
I checked PSN, my PS3 is activated.
I assume that Y…ube stopped support for the PS3, just as other streaming services have.
PS3 is just for playing old games, now, it’s not an “entertainment system.”
How difficult was it to just leave things alone? Nope. They had to do updates to the PS3 app that screw PS3 owners.
Also, I notice my system is EXTREMELY SLOW, now. It takes about 10 seconds to open or close any apps of my PS3.

Make sure you have 2 step authentication activated on your psn account or it wont work. Took me ages to figure it out. Total bullshit Sony get it sorted.
Yeah so basically I did that multiple times and tried generating new passwords and it’s literally not working because instead of logging in it shows the same screen again. Also one time when somehow I managed to sign in it will automatically sign out once you start any game making me unable to use online services
You have to enable 2fa for it to work. So stupid that they did this but enabling 2fa fixed it for me.
Are you running cfw or are you using a sony distributed firmware?

For those that still can’t sign in make sure to put directly what’s on the generator code if it’s uppercase letters be sure to put it in uppercase or if it’s in lowercase make sure to do it the same as well

@ChrisPL: PS3 doesn't accept 2 step, it clearly says to use Device Password [ which appears to be bugged as I have generated one 4 times today and the machine won't accept it ] set up for PS3, 2 step only works for the other systems. I don't own a device in order to get 2 step, I don't own a mobile phone.
