These guys, Unwound, and Sonic Youth are my favorite indie rock bands of all time. I only got to see them once. As a bassist and guitar player, I am utterly amazed to this day how inventive and innovative their songs are.
Completely agree. I've wondered if he used any overdrive pedals or if his tone was all cranked SVT. Regardless, I think This Eclipse is their best work.
Torino Death Ride - Those three bands toured together in late '95. Go to www.sonicyouth.com/mustang/cc/1995.html and look at the mid-November shows, including some poster scans.
WOW this is online?!?!?! was visiting a friend in ny from nc....i puked at this show right before they went on, and still had the best night ever. met ash for a minute afterwards and told him i liked his guitar and he just looked at me and said "i like butterflies." thought it was kinda weird but then again it was a weird night. still have the tshirt somewhere

i always thought these guys were from another planet. when i got to see them in Chicago i was all OMG OMG OMG i was expecting every song to be played on it's own guitar tuned to XNYJWX
I saw them 2 months before this in Jacksonville Beach, Florida when I was 16 and chatted with Ash after the show. I remember they covered 'Good Morning, Good Morning' by the Beatles and played a hell of a lot of awesome tracks including Thermal Treasure, Every Holy Shroud, Solitary Set and Fast Canoe. Legendary.
I saw this same tour in CLEVELAND. It was incredible. They played mostly songs from the new album. When LAZY COMET came on, the place went *NUTS* !!! It was a floor-level show, and we were right there next to them. Seems like the same set list. After, I approached the band and spoke to the bass dude. He asked me something like "was it worth it?" and I of course answered "YES". I was surprised by that question. At the merch table was the new album EXPLODED DRAWING and T-Shirts. I bought an older looking one that had a witch on it riding a broom. It said POLVO DE LO ESCOBRAR which I later learned meant "sweep away with the broom". It was white with blue ringers. I wore it until it fell apart. Also available was a repressing of the 1st recording POLVO w the cool cooper ink. It seems like they were using a different tuning from before, which accounts for the lack of the older CLASSIC songs
Holy crap, I was at this show- in fact, it may have been the last show I saw at CB's before its unfortunate demise. I vividly remember the insane, long improvised segues between songs. That, and the soundman scolding them for yelling into the mics- lol
Last night on Sunday 23 August 2021, I woke up at 1 am could not go back to sleep, so I go to Spotify and found this band by accident, and the first song I was like wow...thanks for upload the band live.
A mofo guitar clinic - so much knowledge in this set. A true gem of a recording of a lost time. H/t to CB. Saw them at Mables in Champaign in 94-95 opening for Pavement. Just like this, except Today's Active Lifestyles. Been my favorite band ever since.
i've always felt like dave's an equal partner to ash. even if ash is clearly the band's songwriter, i've always felt like dave's parts are a little more difficult to play. and i'm pretty sure that he's usually the one soloing -- not something you see a lot in their older songs, but it comes up semi-frequently in the live videos in post-reformation. I'm pretty sure i read in an interview of ash somewhere that dave had a few years headstart on the 'tar compared to ash.
Dave’s playing is so unique, at moments his guitar feels more like someone improvising with an electric piano on top of the song, Fast Canoe is a good example of it.
After leaving the band, the bands dynamics and pace suffered. Eddie was the top. Ash always said the band doesn't remember how to play earlier songs when crowd asked. I got sick of having to hear Mexican Radio every time they played Cali! 😵
imagine working as the soundguy at CBGB and telling people not to yell lmao
Peak of guitar music
Love the “fuck you” to the sound guy playing crumbling down after being scolded for yelling

The bass player was an equally important part of their sound as both guitarists (who were each awesome in their own right)

I got to see Unwound and Polvo open for Sonic Youth in 96. Amazing show I wish was recorded.
Fly ashtray, Uncle wiggly, live skull, UT, Drive like JEhu

savant maestroes in their indie rock corner of the world, this band…truly singular , inimitable art

Absurdly talented band.
I wish I could have seen this line up live. RIP Eddie.

awesome! thanks for sharing your story.. love hearing people’s experiences ;)
These dudes used so many different tunings man. It's was wild.

At an iconic punk venue too. No yelling! 🤣🤣
@@micklee5152 could have just stuck a limiter/compressor on the mic. Kind of sad to hear no yelling on the mic at a punk venue lol
More of my musical history on RUclips! I ended up with a discarded drumstick from this show and possibly a set list. I'll have to look.
Sounds great. One of the better vids on them for quality of the older stuff.

Was at this show. RIP Eddie

At 51:07 it’s like Ash is playing some of Stinger (Five Wigs)
Tell me exactly how Dave Brylawski has a 1966 Vox teardrop and why the fuck they are using it as the RHYTHM GUITAR

how good is ben watkins! so schetchy but dominating at the same time
Eddie Watkins.
schetchy?
Eddie wasnt the most technical but he certainly delivered the goods. Great drummer. R. I. P. Monumental band
REM driver 8 @ 3:30
What guitar is dave playing?
Some Vox knockoff, I’d bet it’s a Teisco
set list?
this guys sound like el shirota
I was at this show. it was very hot in there
la canción del minuto 37
last guitar ?
Looks like a Mosrite or Decca
wayyyy better than sy - unwound rules
whats at 36:00?
I absolutely love this band but based on every video I've seen they were terrible live. You're all crazy.
