Mat Cooper a great vehicle but the sunshine roof wasn’t the best. My grandad told me that at one point one of his friends was in the turret of the daimler and it went over a bump and the roof came forward and killed him....
I was part of a team that restored one of those once. It's currently sitting pretty at the Rockhampton heritage village, alongside a universal carrier (bren gun carrier as we in Australia call them.) And a couple of ford gpw jeeps. They still drive along the street by the Fitzroy river every Anzac Day.
Tobias Adam Tonzing nice job it’s nice to know that people love these little reconnaissance vehicles, my grandad worked with them in the 50’s and loved them. I remember him telling me an incident of which straw was being used as camouflage and it caught on fire! The commander bailed out while my grandfather and his mate had to get the straw off.
Yep I would have seen you. Well done. The Bren carriers were bigger in real life than I thought from my models. however the poor crew had really no protection? I also being brought up in Scotland knew them as Bren Gun Carriers.
I absolutely love this vehicle, my grandad even used to drive one of these when he was in the army! he even had an incident in which straw that was being used for makeshift camouflage caught fire! The commander bailed out while he and his friend worked on removing the burning straw from the vehicle!
Before I found out that England had it's own Daimler company, I was mightily confused when I first came across mention of this vehicle while reading of WWII.
My great-grandfather served in the Rolls-royce armoured cars with No1 armoured car company,RAF. He never liked the Daimler AC. Too modern he called it.
What a great vehicle! During WW2 the British also produced the AEC armoured car (which was armed with a 75mm gun by the Mk3), the Humber armoured car (which had a 37mm by the Mk4) and the Dingo with a Bren gun. We also used the Staghound built by the US. All very good machines!
One of my customers was in one of these during the liberation of France. The got the Legion D’Honour for liberating a French village in it. He’s now old but still in remarkably good health.
My grandfather spent most of the early 40's in several of these, touring parts of north Africa, France, Holland & Germany. Annoyingly the Germans and the Italians kept trying to ruin his trip!
I really think that this little armoured car is adorable 😍and that picture at 2:32 , 3:03 and 4:04 are incredible I would definitely hang those in my room in my room
David fletcher is a treasure all on his own I don't think I'd wanna take a walk around and ramble on about armoured things without him probably a fold up table too for random tea while I drool over tanks 😉🤣
I picked up a 1/6 GI-Joe toy of this car new in the box on Craigslist. It came with a Howitzer that it pulls behind it. The whole combo is over 3 feet long. That is why I ended up here.
I just bought Gecko models new model kit of this the suspension is like building the real thing! So much detail 10 pages just on the suspension! Never seen anything like it haha! Waiting for the SAWN off Daimler kit to come out that's cool! The mk1 has a twin gun like the SAS jeep for the front and controller like handle bars from inside like a remote option
Every time this amazing man speaks, I wonder if his pauses are trying to find the right words, or trying to hold back everything else he'd love to say about the subject (which I'm guessing could go over an hour or more with the rest of us normals just drinking it in and enjoying it)
For everyone's acknowledgement, the Daimler Armoured Car also served in Malaysia during the 1948-1960 Malayan Emergency where the armoured cars were used extensively for recon missions alongside Ferret scout car and Daimler Dingo as well. They were also used to bust out Communist Terrorists' hideouts. One was preserved and exhibited at Muzium Tentera Darat, Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan.
I had been wondering for years, when the "modern" registration numbers were introduced. Very helpfully that was made clear in the video. I presume all renumbered viechles had a "Z" Reg number, as that was MUCH further down the alphabet than in my day.
Just think, Great Britain used to design and manufacture stuff like this and we were some of the best manufacturers in the world. What happened to our country?

Curious as how this compares with the VK1602 turreted Pumas, the Puma with the 50MM long barreled gun inside the turret from the abandoned VK1602 Leopard light tank project, and then compare against to the M8 Greyhound or the Deerhound.
I have an amazing photo of my grandfather and crewmates with two of these Daimlers. He was a tank driver with the 7th Armored in N Africa, then later went up through Sicily and Italy. The Daimler he's sitting on in the photo has the same 7 marking on the fender and I'm curious if the number indicates the division. I may be able to share a copy of the photo with the tank museum if it can be of use.
The number on a yellow disc was universal on British military vehicles. It represents the gross weight, and was for the benefit of sentries on pontoon or Bailey bridges so the bridge would not be overloaded.
I'd like to hear his opinions on the AEC armoured car, specifically the MkII version with the long 6pdr in the valentine MkX turret. My impression may be wrong but it looks to me like it would have been more useful and efficient to make more of those than either valentines or cromwells.
I do notice that just about all British vehicles are "brilliant" and "probably the best" when David is discussing them. Nothing wrong with some national pride!
I could listen to David Fletcher talk about sticks and still be entertained. That man truly is a treasure.
Mr. Lapdoggington absolutely. He's like the grandpa from heaven.
THis is right up his alley :)

Did he vote remain
tiger cat why would that be relevant?
Amen.
Just when you didn't think Friday could get any better, a Tank Chat with David Fletcher pops up and proves you wrong! Happy Days!
Mat Cooper a great vehicle but the sunshine roof wasn’t the best. My grandad told me that at one point one of his friends was in the turret of the daimler and it went over a bump and the roof came forward and killed him....
One year on, another Friday breakfast view of another great Tank Chat.
I was part of a team that restored one of those once. It's currently sitting pretty at the Rockhampton heritage village, alongside a universal carrier (bren gun carrier as we in Australia call them.) I think in 37 Tank Chats that's the most praise i've ever heard David Fletcher ever give. Roll on the next one.
David seale
The Dingo one shocked me. He probably drives one of these to work.
I absolutely love this vehicle, my grandad even used to drive one of these when he was in the army!

I'm gonna miss this guy. But he's earned his retirement. Cheers to Mr Fletcher!
"The vehicle commander is also the loader in his spare time, if he's got any"! Beautiful!
I have a photo of my grandfather with one of these Daimlers. He was a tank driver during WWII - North Africa, Sicily and Italy. Thanks for the video.

Yay Fletchers back again!
David Fletcher is like tank Jesus
More like Santa Claus. If you're good, you're getting informative content. If you're bad, there's a track that needs replacing.
"Like"?.....correction David Fletcher is the Tank God. Do not accept pale imitations lol.
Tank yoda is more accurate
No, Nick Moran is the Tank Jesus. David Fletcher is the Tank God.
@@p_serdiuk Tank Einstein
Brilliant David Fletcher, national treasure, can. Watch and listen to him all day
My dad crewed one of these in post-war Germany with the occupation forces - 11th Hussars. He loved them.
My dad drove one of these post-war with the 11th Hussars in Germany. He loved this part of his life!
nothing like coming home from work to sit down and listen to David Fletcher. Interesting as always
One day I am going to travel from Arizona to visit the Shire with my family. I can't wait!
Watched all 37 chats today, i need more, i need it now! Can´t wait for the Pzkpfw IV, sherman, churchill and T-34 chats
Now that looks like a fun car to drive off road. Thank you !
Fantastic kit! These were on the monster movie ''Gorgo', supporting actors provided by troops of the City of London Yeomanry I think.
A very nice looking vehicle.
My great grandad was in Kings Dragoon Guards they had these during WW2.
All of the footage of those things driving makes it look like a lot of fun to ride in.
Yay! I was photographing this very vehicle at The Tank Museum last Friday.
Great rundown on this scout car and a great mustache to boot.
My dad drove Daimlers whilst serving with the 1st Derbyshire Yeomanry in North Africa
Indeed, thanks to TTM & Mr. Fletcher M.B.E.
We owe so much of our knowledge to mr Fletcher. Thank you sir.
Thank you. Best wishes from Sussex. 4.30 mins on these beauties? A 60 min or more talk would be appreciated so much.
love David Fletcher!
Was there this week, had 3 visits, love the place. Go there every year' and the new tiger display was great.
A friend drove one in the Canadian 8th Recee 14th Hussars. He had a few stories to tell.
One of my customers was in one of these during the liberation of France. The got the Legion D’Honour for liberating a French village in it. He’s now old but still in remarkably good health.
PS he thinks it was a very good armoured car.
Very nice, it is my most favourite armoured car of the war.
Thank you .
That voice is just so good
i love the way they do this kind of video
Huh the UK sure make some nice armored cars. From the AEC to the Daimler. Pretty looking too.
One of my favorite armored cars of ww2. Hell one of my favorite armored cars ever
keep it rolling. This is a great show
I’d contribute to the tank museum just so we could have David Fletcher. He’s a unique individual.
My grandfather spent most of the early 40's in several of these, touring parts of north Africa, France, Holland & Germany.
Annoyingly the Germans and the Italians kept trying to ruin his trip!
My great grandad was out in North Africa during that time and then Italy and Greece he was in KDG.
You have the greatest mustache I've ever laid my eyes on
I really think that this little armoured car is adorable 😍and that picture at 2:32 , 3:03 and 4:04 are incredible I would definitely hang those in my room in my room
A David Fletcher tank chat! It's going to be a good day.... :)
David fletcher is a treasure all on his own I don't think I'd wanna take a walk around and ramble on about armoured things without him probably a fold up table too for random tea while I drool over tanks 😉🤣
Turret looks like a repurposed tetrarch turret. I like it.
Splendid.
Best word to describe the Daimler armoured car is “optimum” literally as good as it gets as regards armoured cars 👌
I picked up a 1/6 GI-Joe toy of this car new in the box on Craigslist. It came with a Howitzer that it pulls behind it. The whole combo is over 3 feet long. That is why I ended up here.

Oh David Fletcher is going to be very sadly missed. Just brilliant he is
May this man live forever 😂
Excellent as always.
Every time this amazing man speaks, I wonder if his pauses are trying to find the right words, or trying to hold back everything else he'd love to say about the subject (which I'm guessing could go over an hour or more with the rest of us normals just drinking it in and enjoying it)
Tanks for the video
i love the daimler
My Grandad used to drive one of these when he was in the army in the 50s.
starace110 same here where was he stationed they may have known each other
We need this in War Thunder! :D
And so interesting listening to him talking about these historical armored cars and tanks! :D
David Fletcher!
Smashing thanks
I've got one and i no longer have any problems with road rage incidents.
Thanks.
0:49 No chassis? That's something new I learn about this car
For everyone's acknowledgement, the Daimler Armoured Car also served in Malaysia during the 1948-1960 Malayan Emergency where the armoured cars were used extensively for recon missions alongside Ferret scout car and Daimler Dingo as well. Cool as!👍I could see me blatin around in that! Ha!
I love those things!
Great vid.
That's a sweet vehicle!
3:11 made me laugh out loud. Literally. Normally, it's David Fletcher that has me laughing. So this was entertaining all the way around.
This would be useful on the commute to work.
0:33 I wonder how many Land Rover owners are upset that something with all independent suspension is so good off road. They do love their beam axles.
@David, Many thanks for this vid. Would it be possible for a tank chat to be done on the SdKfz 234/4 that you have in the collection.
Didn't know that Mark Twain was still alive
Or has a Posh British accent!
This is Mark (IV) Twain
This is England though, so he's more like Mark Twixt.
@@b.u.b.6501 Extremely underrated comment!
I need one of these, driving to the shop is like driving through Syria
If David Fletcher recorded some audio recordings of war novels like Now It Can Be Told or Storm of Steel I would be so happy.
grade a content as always
Just think, Great Britain used to design and manufacture stuff like this and we were some of the best manufacturers in the world. What happened to our country?
Combination of cheaper international alternatives and Thatcher I suppose.
Fletchie is the best!
where can i buy a poster of 2:35?
There are services that print any image you want onto a poster. Just google "poster printing service", compare prices and send them this image:

awesome! thanks :)
I'd love to see a tank chat regarding the Ferret and the Saracen, or even the Humber Pig.

Are there no sherman fireflies in the museum?
If there is hopefully there will be a tank chat of them soon! :)
jorelemes Its your lucky week!
Daimler mkll is my utmost favourite ❤️❤️❤️❤️!!! I got 13kills ever!
Curious as how this compares with the VK1602 turreted Pumas, the Puma with the 50MM long barreled gun inside the turret from the abandoned VK1602 Leopard light tank project, and then compare against to the M8 Greyhound or the Deerhound.
What is the manual mechanism used to rotate the turret?
I have an amazing photo of my grandfather and crewmates with two of these Daimlers. He was a tank driver with the 7th Armored in N Africa, then later went up through Sicily and Italy. if im not mistaken that daimler armored car has the turret of the tetrach light tank
Looks ahead of it's time.
I'd like to hear his opinions on the AEC armoured car, specifically the MkII version with the long 6pdr in the valentine MkX turret. My impression may be wrong but it looks to me like it would have been more useful and efficient to make more of those than either valentines or cromwells.
Who dares to dislike a video whit David Fletcher in it?
Assassin Agent liberals mate....
behind it is kettenkrad i believe which i ask can there be a chats on please i polite-fully request it please its super cool
Armoured car! Yay! 👍
I do notice that just about all British vehicles are "brilliant" and "probably the best" when David is discussing them. Nothing wrong with some national pride!
Nice design. Looks very capable. I guess 4 wheel independent suspension is not a new idea. Too bad it was only 95 hp. Great videos
Our tanks weren’t always the best but we did make some of the best armoured cars of the war
You could upgrade the main gun and install power travers and put that thing straight back into service ! So modern !
Very cool, but for a reconnaissance vehicle I always thought it seemed un-stealthy. Though I guess height is a help for spotting targets etc.
what about the AEC mk. II? It had a 57mm 6 pdr gun in it.
