      Mat Cooper a great vehicle but the sunshine roof wasn’t the best. My grandad told me that at one point one of his friends was in the turret of the daimler and it went over a bump and the roof came forward and killed him....

    I was part of a team that restored one of those once. It's currently sitting pretty at the Rockhampton heritage village, alongside a universal carrier (bren gun carrier as we in Australia call them.) And a couple of ford gpw jeeps. They still drive along the street by the Fitzroy river every Anzac Day.

      Tobias Adam Tonzing nice job it’s nice to know that people love these little reconnaissance vehicles, my grandad worked with them in the 50’s and loved them. I remember him telling me an incident of which straw was being used as camouflage and it caught on fire! The commander bailed out while my grandfather and his mate had to get the straw off.

    • @normanreid29
      @normanreid29 6 лет назад +2

      Yep I would have seen you. Well done. The Bren carriers were bigger in real life than I thought from my models. however the poor crew had really no protection? I also being brought up in Scotland knew them as Bren Gun Carriers.

    I absolutely love this vehicle, my grandad even used to drive one of these when he was in the army!
    he even had an incident in which straw that was being used for makeshift camouflage caught fire! The commander bailed out while he and his friend worked on removing the burning straw from the vehicle!

    What a great vehicle! During WW2 the British also produced the AEC armoured car (which was armed with a 75mm gun by the Mk3), the Humber armoured car (which had a 37mm by the Mk4) and the Dingo with a Bren gun. We also used the Staghound built by the US. All very good machines!

They were also used to bust out Communist Terrorists' hideouts. One was preserved and exhibited at Muzium Tentera Darat, Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan.

The Daimler he's sitting on in the photo has the same 7 marking on the fender and I'm curious if the number indicates the division. I may be able to share a copy of the photo with the tank museum if it can be of use.
