I just want to say thank you so much. I had the same problem that you had and I tried everything to get the damn door to open so I can work on it. I ended up doing what you did and sprayed the lock mechanism with a bunch of WD-40 and it finally opened. I really didn't even have to replace the latch/lock mechanism. It just had an accumulation of 28 years of dirt, and grease build up on it. Nothing that WD-40, a wire brush, and some compressed air couldn't cleaned out like new again. I replaced some of the metal clips that holds the metal actuating rods, and the plastic handle piece, that I broke during removal of the door panel. Less than $50 of new parts to fix my door to like new once again. Thank you once again, your video helped me so much. Oh, It came out to almost $50, because I had to buy a rivet gun for the interior door handle replacement, other wise it would have been more like $30 in new parts to fix my stuck closed door.

Great. Glad to hear it. Sometimes you just got to step back and take a calm look at things. The primary rule in fixing things is to know how it works. In my case, I actually have not yet got my eyes on the mechanism that was causing this. It sounds like you have. I still plan to but I haven't had the inner door panel off since. I will be inside the door soon as I have to replace my smashed RH side mirror and that requires getting in there. I'll look at the RH side 1st and see just what's what and get at the LH one as soon as practical. Thanks for the comments. Those can be just as valuable to others watching the videos. These forums are a great resource for those trying to keep these old beasts in operation. I'm getting too old to deal with the massive influx of electronics and other complicated systems that require a degree in computer operating technology just so you can drive to work. Sometimes I think a beat up old '65 Vette with a carburetor and maybe electronic ignition will do just fine. Those were some good times. Mind you, engines only lasted about 100K miles but everyone in my circle had at least 1 pair of heads off and to the local machine shop which many auto parts houses had in the back. Swapping engines, or short blocks, heads, cams, intake manifolds, 4 barrel carbs, headers, dual exhausts, etc... just a normal day in the life of a Motorhead High Schooler. Man, nostalgia is great. Sorry, got a bit distracted. Thanks again.

You rock! I'm sitting in a parking lot, unable to get out! (Of the driver door at least)
Cycled the lock-unlock a bunch of times and was finally able to open the door.
Time to go home and lube it up.
    Thank you, sir.

Glad to hear it. The first step to repairing something is always to understand how it works. This one has major repercussions from just a simple sticky part. I feel very lucky to have figured this out. Got to share with other GM owners. Hope to save as many as possible from having to potentially damage their truck/car just to open the freakin door. Thanks for the feedback.

I stuck my WD40 down the door between the window and the door with the window down and soaked the assembly and I hit the lock and unlock button about 10 times and she opened. Then I lubed everything and so far so good. Thanks for the fix hoss

Ha! Fantastic. It looks like I might have hit on something valuable. At my next outing to the junk/ I mean automotive recycling facility, I might try to pull a latch assy. to get a good look at what the guts look like and post a follow up so that affected persons can see what the actual issue is, and maybe do some preventive maint. to keep this from happening in the 1st place. Keep 'em rollin. I've rolled over 319,000 miles now. Despite my best efforts to beat it to death, My White Whale rolls on.

Had this happen to my Yukon, Did what you did and it worked. Thanks. One suggestion, I just pried the inside liner up to make a gap, just a little above the lock, and sprayed down on it, then just pushed it back in place.

In addition to general wear and tear, the door strikers have developed a flat spot because the doors are sagging, which is caused by worn (and sometimes missing) door bushings. FYI, the door strikers are actually a T47; a T45 will work but you may round out the female provision.

Ok, thanks for that. Just a quick update. 4 months on and the door still operates fine. I feel bad for anyone who ended up cutting up their truck if some lube is all they needed. Us old things need time related servicing. It kills me when someone tells me they have to get a "new" car or whatever cause the one they have broke. "So you want to get another one that will break differently?" I say "just fix the thing and keep on trucking". Amateurs. They didn't invent shade trees just for squirrels.

I’ve been crawling over my seat since Christmas Eve. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣
RUclips has not helped at all except getting the door panel slightly open. I tried this tonight and it doesn’t seem to have worked for me, but let’s see how it does in the warmth tomorrow. 🤞🏼🙏🏻

Curious if you got ur door open. Make sure you move the lock slider up and down a bunch of times after you spray down to the latch mechanism. It may need the movement to convince it to give in.

Great! It's wild the difference in my mood when this worked. It went from dispair that I was gonna have to cut on my truck just to get the door open and then have to repair that to feeling: wow, that was no big deal after all. I'm glad this is working for others as well. Gives me a warm fuzzy feeling all over. Thanks.

One of the issues that sometime come up with old things is that so many parts have been repaired or replaced, the original configuration no longer exists. I've replaced the driver's door handle 3 or 4 times so when something acts up I have to verify that it's not something I've already replaced or modified. I've had to bend the rod from the handle to the door latch to shorten it so that it will pull far enough. That was my 1st thought when this happened. No such luck this time. I feel very lucky to have come up with something that worked.

I went to install new plastic pegs , had to physically bend the inside handle back into place , and screw the window flap thing back to the top , that's what I get for thinking it was going to be a fifteen min job lol
